Enabling the Google Assistant without supported language - Google Pixel 3 Questions & Answers

Hi! I am searching for solutions for hours now but nothing came up. I have a rooted Pixel 3 without the Assistant, since I use a language (HUN) which is not supported (and I guess it won't be in the next 10 years...). Still, it would be fine if I could enable the Assistant in English (without changing the system language). Is there any way for that? Maybe a Magisk module I haven't find yet or anything? (The main reason I am so curious about it is that I've already used it in English a few times earlier when it got enabled randomly by itself for a few hours, so I guess it would be possible, just Google is...you know. Google.)

[Q] Ok Google Hotword everywhere

I was wondering if anyone knows if this feature will work on the HTC one M8? It hasent appeared yet but I know they are enabling it per account. Just wanted to see if it is going to work.
Here is how you can force it. Works perfectly. Also to add haven't seen it stated anywhere else yet but it will also work with the screen off WHILE charging.

I updated Google Search from the Play store and in the settings is an option for "OK Google Detection" to choose "From any screen. Responds to your voice. Works when the screen is on or the device charging"
Since I value batter life over having to swipe up Google Now, I have not tried it.

I've read too that they are enabling it per account but I'm not so sure. A couple nights ago while I was on an AOKP rom I installed the new Google search. OK Google worked from any screen. The next morning restored a backup of my stock sense rom and installed it on there too. Strange thing is, it didn't work. I don't even have the option for OK Google from any screen in the settings. I did a search and found a couple things to try but neither worked. I flashed back to AOKP and it was still working. Don't ask me.
I did come across the article runandhide linked to but after doing a search on that, I see some end up in a boot loop after doing it. I decided to just let it be.
Anyway, if it's a per account thing, I would think it would work on any rom on a given account.

[Completed] [Q] Please help with deleted system file

I rooted and debloated my phone of annoying apps a couple months ago. Apparently I went a step too far and uninstalled an app related to voice recognition. (no backup, unfortunately) I thought it was unneeded and just recently realized it crippled my ability to use voice recognition. The stock keyboard shows the mic button, but does nothing when pressed. Google keyboard wont show the mic and in google keyboard settings the "voice input key" option is greyed and says "No voice input methods enabled. Check language and input settings." There are no settings related to it in language and input settings. Other apps don't work or say my phone isn't capable of voice recognition. I did use voice recognition from the stock keyboard when I first had the phone and it worked fine. I can't think of anything else I did to cause this. I updated the UI to the latest but that didn't replace the file. I really want to avoid resetting and flashing roms so I would love to find that app and just install it again. I remember it having the words, voice, speech, or something similar. I need a list of system files so I can compare it to mine and see what I'm missing. I looked around but couldn't manage to do it. If someone can provide a list or point me in the direction of solving this I would really appreciate it. Huawei Ascend P7 - Android 4.4.2 - Emotion UI version 2.3

Hello
I couldn't find a stock firmware for your device on XDA, but you could post your issue in the Ascend P7 Q&A forum where someone would be able to extract the apk and link it to you.
Cheers,
Quasar.

"OK Google" not working anymore on LineageOS 15.1

Hi there,
for some months now I have a Honor View 10 with LineageOS 15.1 installed.
Recently I also got a Huawei smart watch which I coupled to the View 10.
On both devices, it was working perfectly fine to talk to the Google Assistant by just saying "OK Google" if the screen was turned on.
It automatically unlocked and followed my commands.
Since some weeks, though, the "OK Google" detection stopped working and I cannot find out, why.
When trying to activate Voice Match in the settings page of the Google app, there's a message that the service was not available in my current language...
(But I already tried many different languages - of course including "English (US)". And: it used to work until some weeks ago!)
I already changed many settings, tried several combinations of different settings unpaired my smart watch, deleted the cache and all updates of the Google apps, but I was not able to get OK Google back running...
I am not sure if this is a device-specific issue or a LineageOS-specific issue, but on my device with LineageOS it does not work anymore...
(Btw, when tapping the microphone icon in Google's search bar, the voice recognition is working fine!)
Any ideas?
Anyone having the same problem?
Anyone already fixed that?
Best,
Tom
I have the same problem with my stock phone.Ok google/Hey google not working.

Try this:

Unfortunately, this did not work.
Still all options for voice match are greyed out...

Try to delete google app data after you pushed those files. Here it works as expected.
I don't get that.
The Google app is part of the gapps. It's installed in the /system partition.
After deleting it, how should I re-install it?
From the Play Store (is it available there?)?
Or in the /system partition again (how?)

Not the app eheh, only its data from Settings - Apps and notifications - Show all apps - Google - Storage space - Manage space - Delete all data.
I've done that several times already.
Now again, with the two apps installed in /system.
I deleted all the data of the Google app.
I've even tried to delete all data from Play services which meant re-configuring all the accounts and settings and so on again from scratch, but that didn't help, either.
This is really weird.
Check also if it's not a gapps issue, try this within Lineage: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=674106145207491329
Otherwise i'm out of ideas, you could try my build (https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=962339331458996492) and see if you can enroll Ok Google again. Then, if it works, you could even try to flash Lineage again and see if it still works (you know, Google server side voodoo lol).
Completely stock here and having the same issue. I am starting to regret getting this phone.
I've tried now to
- re-install Lineageos 15.1
- install another build of Lineageos 15.1
- using different versions of GApps
but nothing brought my voice match back...
Now I'm a little bit frustrated

Google Assistant repeatedly stops working, claiming it's not the default assistant

Hey guys,
I recently bought a Chinese Android car head unit from a pretty random AliExpress seller. The unit is based on a chip that doesn’t have a lot of info about it on the web: AC8257 (Probably some sort of a MediaTek). I know those Chinese units and ROMs can be pretty funky, but this one actually works pretty well, both on the car side and the Android/Google apps side. However, I do have one small, yet very annoying problem that I can’t seem to solve on my own: Google app (Which includes the assistant) did not come preinstalled with the device. I’ve manually installed it from the app store, and until my first reboot, everything seemed to work fine. The assistant could be called both by a key-press and by “OK/Hello Google”. So far so good. The problem first appeared upon restarting the machine. When I tried calling the assistant, I got a message saying that Google assistant is not set as my default assistant (See attached photo). I went to the settings, and guess what, it seemed to be set as the default (See attached photo - No other option other than “None” were available anyway). I chose it again anyway, and indeed, it started working properly again. However, 30 minutes later, even without a reboot, it happened again. And again… You get the idea.
I did some googling (Both for the AC8257 and the assistant problem itself, contacted the seller and searched wherever I can, but the results were dull). I tried solving it by doing the following:
Using adb and root rights (Through ADB, not a permanent root), I installed the apk in priv-app, didn’t work. I then tried moving the Play store installation the priv-app, also did not work. I also tried disabling something called DuraSpeed, which, as far as I understand, is a performance enhancing tool by MediaTek that can sometimes cause this kind of thing, but that ,sadly, also did not help. In addition, I also tried resetting the device completely, to no avail. The only thing I didn’t try is installing a clean ROM and then installing OpenGapps, but that’s not possible right now (Couldn’t find any ROM for this device and CPU).
I know this might be a problem that is specifically related to my device/ROM, but as I can’t find a lot of info about it pretty much anywhere, I thought it might not be such a bad idea to ask this question in a more general forum.
Many thanks to you all,
Noam.
I have the same problem.
If you solve, tell us. Thanks!
Try to figure out what event took place at the 30 minute mark. Try to see what apk pops up in the cache when it crashes.
You can try clearing the system cache then the data of the apks used if that doesn't get it.
Try resetting network settings if communicating with bluetooth.
Eventually you'll find it if you keep playing with it... Androids wuv being played with.

"Ok Google" not working "This feature is currently unavailable for this language"
Hi everyone.
I've got a K30 Pro Zoom couple of days ago and since then I'm trying to make "Ok google" work but I always get the same grey button with the script "This feature is currently unavailable for this language"
I'm in a chinese ROM, MIUI 12.0.9, but it happened to me also in Miui 11.
I've tried to change the language to every other available, same thing with region, I've unistalled and reinstalled google app and assitant several times...but no fix.
Any help?
Thank you.

I had the same question before and have tried multiple actions, including adding the adb log to check.
This is not related with language.
I never made Chinese ROM works for that. Someone told me OK google detection needs to make the Google app as system app, so the Hotword permission can be granted, but I never made it work
Global ROM works.

Thank you for the info.
I've just asked to open the bootloader to move to another ROM.

Hello linuxwalkers
Thank you for the previous answer, I finally got "Ok Google" working 90% with xiaomi.eu ROM.
The issue I'm facing now is that it only works when the phone is unlocked.
When is locked, or screen off, it triggers "you nned to unlock your device" every time I say a command.
I went through every configuration as "Display personal results in lcoscreen", "Allow assitant to work on lockscreen"...
Did you manage to make it work when the phone is locked?
Thank you
