Samsung A7 (2018) Black Crush Screen Issue - Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) Questions & Answers

I recently bought Samsung A7 phone. My problem is that especially during night time in a dark room when i am watching Trailers or movies in You tube or any other Digital streaming app i found a color banding issue that prevents the screen from accurately displaying different shades of black. As a result, an image or video with colors that fade from black to dark gray might replace some of the grays with black. On top of that, the dark areas of the image may before grainy or pixelated.

During daytime this issue is redundant.
This issue also happened with Galaxy S9 also. But samsung released an update to resolve this issue. Is this issue occurring on only my phone or is this a defect in the phone. Can anyone provide me a solution for this?(Please find attached image for Reference taken in my phone)

In this test http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php#blacktest.png I can distinguish the squares from 6 to the last without problems on 50% brightness.
At 100% brightness I can also see square 5, but 1,2,3,4 looks the same as 5.
So does that count as black crush?
Until now I haven`t see any problem when watching videos, everything looks crystal clear for me.
Look at this https://i.imgur.com/Y1snoFf.jpg and tell me how many boxes you can see.
At 50% brightness I can differentiate every step from 3% (1,2 and 3 looks almost the same) to 100%.
I just tested this with minimum brightness in room without light and I still can see every step, actually in that way 1 and 2% are also visible as separate.

Same problem here. Same phone. I tought it will be fixed with february update, but it wasn't. I think it's software related. I also have the uneven display problem.

Are you shure this ja the screen problem nad not the compression effect ?

Display burn-in?

This G Tablet is just out of the box, but appears to have some type of "burn in" that shows up one certain colored backgrounds. I noticed it first in the background of the application Tweetdeck, but the attached image is with the plain background using the free application called "Dead Pixel Test". It was a little tricky to capture with the camera, but there is an outline about 1/2 an inch all the way around the screen with rounded corners and on the left side it it juts out to a point sort of like a "speech bubble" from a comic. This is the third display color of Dead Pixel Test, "light grey". I didn't see it with any other colors in that program, but depending on what colors are in the background in other applications, this outline may appear.
Could anyone else confirm if their display has this issue? This unit is new, so I'm not sure how it would have any burn in like this, so maybe all displays have this, or maybe it's just a display defect on my unit.

I ran the dead pixel test and it didn't have any issues like your pic. If you bought in a store bring it back and show them the test and have them run the same test on an in store display model.
Sent from my SPH-P100 using XDA App
Definitley bring it back. Better to have peace of mind than to worry about it.

Thanks for the confirmation. It didn't look right and now it does sound like it's just a problem with this particular unit I have. I am going to take it into the store as you suggested.
LCD panels can experience retained images, but it's far less likely to be permanent than the phosphor damage seen on CRT tubes and plasma displays. The new OLED panels will probably be bad for this as well. Set a pure white background for a few hours at low brightness to keep the temperature down (with no icons) then see if your pixel test shows any difference. If the image is really permanently retained out of the box my guess would be that it was probably a test result screen from the factory.
Good reminder for the rest of us that screen savers/timeouts are important!

Problems with camera after small update

The camera on my Galaxy S6 started having issues with flickering translucent vertical stripes appearing. The stripes are present even after taking a picture (see photo below). Same issues in 3rd party apps like Snapchat, and in recorded video.
The issues started after a small update received this morning.
I have tried resetting the camera app settings, emptied the cache and restarted, to no avail.

After update system to never version is like that?
Sorry this isn't a direct issue with the camera or the update, necessarily. It appears to be an issue with the lighting in my office room.
Even though I have had no trouble in the past, I have previously taken pictures in there, but I only now noticed it, and I can't say how long it's been there, but it definitively haven't always been like this.
The issue is with the florescent lamps, and I can only see the stripes in my particular room, not in the hallway with seemingly the same type of lamps.

Regards
Can't see the picture but I might know what you talking about.
My F2 has also vertical "spots" in low light/dark conditions when there also dark content displayed on the screen.
I think it is normal for OLED Screens, although I must say it is quite visible on the Poco f2.

Thanks for your reply
Yes it appears in dark condition specialy on grey, dark grey color and a lot of apps using it in dark mode so it's normal no need to change the phone

Yes exactly. I must admit it is quite irritating seeing those at first; these "shadow lines" are especially more prominent when the DC dimming feature is activated.
I had those on every phone with OLED Screens (Galaxy S, S2, S3 etc. you name it) and also on the OnePlus 6.
I assume OLED Screens are not perfectly balanced out regarding their illumination strength or there are slight impurities/imperfections in the panel, since these are organic light emitting diodes. But I don't really know why these lines appear especially in low light conditions.
Other than that it does not bug me much (anymore) since in most use cases the lines/shadows are not visible.

Question Screen problem.

hello I would like to report a software bug of the pixel.
when we put the color profile in adaptive and we before the brightness of the screen to full on a solid color (notification panel, settings) we can notice a line that is displayed along the entire length of the screen
this is indeed software bug because i currently have pixel 7 pro and i proceed this bug on both.

This is also happening to my pixel 7 pro.
It is more visible with brightness set to max and only occurs on grey backgrounds like notifications panel or chrome tab manager when dark mode is enabled.
The line is wider at 1080p and thinner at native resolution. Changing colour display from adaptative to natural also changes the line appearance (from grey to dark blue) but it is always present.
Sometimes it disappears on its own after a short time. Touching the screen may also cause it to disappear or reappear.
I´m not sure if this is a software or hardware issue.
Anyone else facing this problem?
while i have a pixel 6a .. this happened (since) last week here as well. not sure how these two devices are comparable in that regard.
for me the line can be "forced" to show up more visibly when "pressing" some specific area in the lower part of the display (just like a usual display-touch, but using more force), and can be made almost invisible when "pressing" (with force as well) the outer case pf the phone (from all sides). either way, it’s seems to be a hardware problem for me. google support agreed (!) and right now the local repair shop (acting on google’s behalf) ordered a new display for me and will install it next week. the guys at the shop already told me they’ve seen a few of these cases BUT always after the phone fell down on hard ground or something (which wasn’t the case for me).
I think it is more of a manufacturing flaw/design/anomaly??? Not so much a bug or something to really worry about because it only appears under certain extreme conditions such as MAX screen brightness with dark mode on certain colors. Meh...

Wanbo T6R Max can't get HDR

I just got T6R Max today and the built-in apps (Netflix, Prime, etc.) are showing way too bad image quality. I connected it to my pc and made some comparisons and pc was way better. However, still I don't think I am getting HDR image and it actually looks horrible.
It says SDR at the top left. There is an option called HDMI 2.0 and there are ''On'' ''Off'' ''Auto'' options. Can somebody explain what this option is for? My HDMI cable is KabelDirekt HDMI 2.0 18Gbit/s.
I don't know if it's supposed to show it but I can see ''No HDR'' in windows as well.
Here, I tried to show the difference. The first one is my PC monitor. The second one is T6R Max. You can see there is no detail whatsoever in the second photo. Darks are so dark. The colors are idk what to say... I tried to tweak the image a bit with the projection's options but it won't help.

I just downloaded an HDR film and put it in a usb. Tried to open it that way directly in the projector's OS. The difference is big. It is way better than what I am getting from my pc. However, I am still not sure If I am getting HDR10 content. I am a bit lost here.
1- How can I see If it is really showing HDR10?
2- Why can't I get HDR from my PC?
Edit - Day 2:
I bought Amazon Fire Sticks 4k Max today. There are good display options in that. Finally, I can see HDR text when I open it at the top left corner. However, the problem with blacks and colors is still there. So this is my conclusion: I think even though the projector supports HDR, its brightness (550 ANSI lumen) is not enough for HDR content. That is why there are no details in blacks and colors are not there. I chose adaptive HDR in the display setting and with a little bit of tweak I can see more now. There is an image quality loss, however.
But I think this is what you get with this price range I guess. If there is a way that I can improve the quality please let me know.
