[SOLVED] 8.12.20 ROM is Crashing Many Apps. - Xiaomi Poco F1 Guides, News, & Discussion

8.12.20 ROM is Crashing Many Apps.
Many Apps that use web interfaces, WebKit etc are now force closing. Such as Joplin, many browsers such as Boat etc etc.
They all were working fine with 8.12.13. Amateur Devs at Xiaomi once again are using many as guinea pigs. Why is there no expert supervision at Xiaomi?
Please list apps force closing in 8.12.20 in this thread. Maybe Xiaomi will see how disabling numerous web based apps is extremely stupid.
Also regarding the news of the stupid Xiaomi policy of disabling anti-bricking and EDL downgrading setting, is it safe to downgrade to 8.12.13 from 8.12.20 ?
Has anyone done it?

poco f1 doesn't have ANTI-ROLLBACK protection... u can downgrade as you like.... for now!!!
Sent from my POCOPHONE F1 using Tapatalk

Maxthon browser also crashes trying to load any site. Like Joplin trying to open any notes. Numerous apps with web based toolkits are dead in this ROM.
MX browser also crashes. This ROM was made by who?
XBrowser also does not launch and crashes.

[SOLVED]
I found the problem, they packaged an old webview.
Update it here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.webview

if i remember well the anti-rollback policy just will brick you your phone if you downgrade to oreo from pie (or any other different android version like Q to pie), but in pie you can just flash them, those numbers are like dates of release, 8.12.24 december 24, its the same rom with different bug fixes, so theorically you will not brick your phone from downgrading it from twrp

I really love stock rom and yet, I always use Cyanogen or Paranoid on my all old devices. But Huawei's rom is really beautiful.
I only use Appsetting, Greenify, and Youtube adaway on xposed. And it's works with an old release.
Stock rom is beautiful but too closed . Many things are not supported

Hi
Where from you got xposed from MT7 TL10? Is it working properly?
Secondly, regarding greenify, the same function is already present in the Huawei ROM itself, to protect or unprotect an application. But the problem is that if you unprotect an application like for example whatsapp or Facebook, you will not get any notifications unless you start it manually and at that time you will know what is new. Same is true for greenify.
Sent from my HUAWEI MT7-TL10 using Tapatalk
Yes, that's right, greenify isn't necessarry with stock ROM.
I'm not on MT7-TL10 but 09. And xposed run with an old release. I've no problems.
Any news from around the traps if we are getting lollipopped yet

Replacing the phone app has nothing to do with FreedomOS. The Google phone app which is what was discussed with Aroma in the same sentence. OpenGAPPS has an Aroma installer available, and within that is the Google Dialer.

Sorry about that. I probably came across weird there. As far as a return to stock guide, do you want, A. to return to stock with an unlocked bootloader and TWRP with root / no root or B. completely stock with the stock OnePlus recovery, OOS 3.2.2 and locked bootloader? If you want choice A I think there's a guide somewhere in XDA and also the OnePlus forums. If you want choice B I wrote up a guide for it. Here's the link for choice B:

thanks for the link, I'd seen the full guide to unlock but hadn't seen one to go back to stock yet until you linked it here. I may do this when I have a bit of time.

Right now currently I'm running stock OOS 3.2.2 with root and XPosed. This thing is a beast on the stock rom! The last couple of days were spent trying 3 different roms.
The official CM13 nightlies are pretty good and stable, but are subject to the standard nightly quirk of suddenly stopping working due to the fact that they're nightlies.
I also tried the official Resurrection Remix 5.7.2 "stable" rom. That was also pretty good but is based on the CM13 nightlies so it has the same quirks. If you try this make sure you read the OP first as there are multiple versions of this rom and it can get confusing pretty quick.
The other one I tried was the unofficial Dirty Unicorns 10.4. It worked fine except that it constantly had issues with Google sync. I tried adding, deleting and re-adding my account to no avail. It would only partially sync. That was a dealbreaker.
I tried FreedomOS 1.3.1 twice yesterday but the installer is messed up and doesn't install the apps you choose, otherwise it works. If you want that one I recommend watching the thread for an update before you go flash it.
Also forgot to mention on CM13 and Resurrection Remix there is a notification bug far worse than the OOS one. You can receive the first notification with sound, the rest don't sound off. It has been reported to the devs. All of the devs on these roms are cool and work hard to make them pretty bug free.
The rest of the roms on there I haven't looked at. Most of the rest of them are similar in features to the above ones. I was going to try Slim6 but it's in alpha and as far as I know still doesn't have DASH charge capabilities. Roms that are in Alpha are a big no no on my daily driver.
I hope I've been of some help!

thanks man, this is all pretty helpful. coming from the N5X I'd been mostly looking at freedom OS since i'd heard about the issues on other roms (mostly the photo quality stuff, but that notification issue would annoy me quite a bit) and the stock N5X android M has little customization.
That being said, in this case since OOS is great and customizeable as is I may just do the same as you. Most of the removed system apps on freedomOS don't have any effect being present, I don't mind not having layers, and i can make most of the remaining mods myself.
What xposed apps do you use if you don't mind me asking?

Don't mind at all. Here's what I have at the moment:
AdBlocker <-- blocks ads in free apps, works great and better than MinMinGuard!
FingerprintEnabler <-- Removes the Android 6.0.1 restriction on using a secondary unlock with every reboot, just lets me use the fingerprint all the time.
Hide VoLTE Icon <-- A beautiful mod. Removes the ugly VoLTE icon on 3.2.1 and higher.
Lockscreen Album Art Remover (not sure if this is working properly or not)
RootCloak (so I can use my banking app)
YouTube AdAway <-- Removes the ads in YouTube videos. I tried it on one video and it seems to work nicely.
I'm still looking at some others. But for now this is functional. I'm also using AdAway downloaded from F-Droid (an open source app installer for Android) to block ads elsewhere.

Recent apps - one app missing

In the recent apps list, my browser goes missing. Sometimes, but rarely, it reappears.
The browser app is Boat Browser. I've tried both restart and reinstall.
Fir what I know it's the only app with this behaviour.
Chrome works ok, it shows up in the list.
I suspect one the many per-app permission Android 6.0 gives us, but haven't been able to fix it by changing them different ways.

Hi clsA, great to hear!
Do you mean you're on Android 7.0/Nougat?
This update has not been made available where I live (Sweden), if that's the solution you're suggesting.
Also, are you running Boat Browser as well?
Cheers
I'm just telling you it's fixed in Nougat. Yes I'm using Boat browser

OK, but Nougat is only in beta for Honor 8, and only in UK, so unfortunately this is no solution for me (OTA update scheduled for sometime February according to newssites).
When you say Nougat fixes the problem, did you have the problem yourself on Nougat? Or are you stating that the problem is non-present on Nougat?
Cheers!
Maybe the app isn't compatible with Marshmallow.
Hi DarkGuyver, that may be so - how do I check that?
(On Google Play the latest update says "Fix bug for Android 6.0 or above", so should be compatible AFA the company says).
Cheers!

Hej
Not really only in Uk...I got OTA update January 4 to Android 7.0 + EMUI 5.0 in Sweden...
Boat Browser not showing in MM Recents
I don't have Honor but I've had the same problem with Boat Browser disappearing from Recents in MM.... Solved by downgrading to 8.7.1 :cyclops:
THANX! Downgrading to 8.7.1 did it.
(Just make sure you uninstall BB before installing apk, otherwise it will not install).

Netflix L1 support by Pixel 4XL props

Everyone knows our Poco doesn't support L1 by default with Netflix. Few shared tweaks or modified Netflix HD version etc which all never worked for me. Somehow I got this Pixel 4 XL props which actually changes our device props to Pixel and voila. Netflix is working in full hd and HDR support. You need to flash this via Magisk.
Credit to Pixelprops for sharing it on Telegram.
Only drawback, the colors are saturated on Google chrome browser which doesn't bother me as I use Firefox.
This has been tested on Havoc 3.2 latest rom with stock kernel. I've attached screenshot from the Netflix app showing it's full HD support and HDR. You need to be on L1 for this to work. You can check what widevine support your phone shows by installing drminfo app from Playstore. If it's showing L1, you can proceed with the installation. If it shows L3, you need to flash MIUI first, boot into that rom and than flash any custom rom.
Please be aware this might not work on all roms and in some roms this can cause bootloops, I'm not responsible for your phone. Do backup before flashing this via Magisk.
Edit: uploaded August Pixel 4 XL props. Test and report back if it works. Thanks.

Playback not working, getting black screen ?
Edit : IT doesn't work because pixel 4 rom doesn't have orignal poco f1 widevine L1 props
Man thank you. You just saved me from a lot of headache!
I just flashed your zip over latest MIUI stable global Q6.0 and its working flawlessly! Got Netflix HD just like that.
Kudos for this post and helping me out. I was literally stuck using custom roms just because I couldn't get L1 on MIUI but your zip changed that!

yeah I just wish we didn't have to deal with this Netflix fiasco with poco, but it's already too late. I talked to Netflix support for hours to no end. their customer support goes silent Over the mere mention of Widevine certification and would rather have you troubleshoot network and other meaningless stuff.

Did you need to fix the fingerprint by changing the props for the brand Xiaomi and then choosing for Pocophone F1, or do you need to change and impose the props of the Google brand and after that choose for the Pixel 4 model?
You see I am still confused on how to get HD in Netflix....
By flashing the zip in TWRP over the newwest ROM,, I was able to turn Poco f1 in Pixel 4, but for me it was not enough to get HD in Netflix. So what else do I need to do to get HD?

First check by drminfo app if it's L3 or L1. If L1 than proceed to uninstall Netflix, flash the zip via Magisk ( Not twrp) and reboot. Reinstall Netflix, hide it via Magisk manager and than login. It should be full HD now.
If DRM info shows L3 you need to flash MIUI boot into MIUI and than flash back the custom rom you use.

Please see the printscreen, which shows that my pocophone is not certified by the Google Playstore
Open the playstore app.
under Settings, you scroll all the way down. At the section About you see in the last item called Play Protect Certification.
It says:
Device is not certified.
Is this the case for my pocophone F1 only, or for all poco F1 users?
Is it important for the HD Netflix certification, and if so, how can I fix this?

this started showing ever since Ctsprofile began to fail on almost all custom roms. it also failed on miui global latest 11.6.0 update and playstore was showing unsupported device. however, it doesn't effect hdr status inside Netflix as far as I know. if you can get your rom setting to show that it's some device other than poco (like pixel 4) then you should have hdr support regardless of playstore status.
just flash the module, reboot, clear your app data and cache and you should be good to go. in fact, that's exactly how I was able to run Netflix hd on miui latest global though as already mentioned it breaks miui camera app and you have to disable and reboot device to be able to use camera again or just use any custom gcam.
good luck!

Cts failing on all roms cause Google changed something from their end. Magisk needs to be updated for that which will happen shortly once the dev able to figure out what changes Google did. It doesn't effect Netflix as of now. It's still working in hd for me. My rom was certified and automatically it's changed to not certified few days ago. Found out about this when many users reported that even it's not certified in MIUI too.

So if you can get your ROM setting to show that it's some device other than poco (like pixel 4) then you should have hdr support regardless of playstore status.
Just flash the module, reboot, clear your app data and cache and you should be good to go.
The setback is it breaks miui camera app and you have to disable and reboot device to be able to use camera again or just use any custom gcam.
Send from my Pocophone F1, with an altered fingerprint (of Pixel 4 XL), so I can finally watch Netflix in HD

COVID-19 Exposure Notifications

Does any of you have the COVID-19 Exposure Notifications System option on your mi 10 ultra (Chinese ROM)?

I live in Portugal and I can't get the STAYAWAY CODIV app to work because I don't have this "Exposure Notifications" option.
It was not on mine. Mine came with a small hacked version of GMS without it. When I flashed the EU ROM, it was then installed. I would presume that if you install full GMS on your Chinese ROM that it should then be available or move to the EU ROM.
what do you mean by installing full GSM?

I tried installing the latest google services on the Chinese rom, but I was not succesful, and thus couldn't get a Covid-19 notification app to work. The API for Covid-19 exposure notifications doesn't seem to be present in the Chinese ROM version. Install the EU rom and this problem is solved, the latest version of google services comes with that and the app will work.

I'm living in the Netherlands as well. The CoronaMelder doesn't work as well. I've sent feedback to MIUI team. I tried EU rom once but it has problems on YouTube HDR playback. So I switch back to China rom again.

As far as I'm aware, the latest EU rom should have solved the safetynet problem and thus the hdr playback. I haven't tested that yet, but will soon.
It'll be interesting to see if the MIUI team will make the Google services run better for the Covid API to work (properly) on the Chinese rom. Not sure whether the Chinese have such an app as well.

Actually I think the COVID API cannot be enabled due to missing systemised Google apps. I have a Mi Pad 4 (another device without Global Rom) and I flashed it with OpenGapps on the Chinese rom. CoronaMelder can be enabled and works well.
I tried to flash OpenGApps in the same way but failed due to the dynamic system partition. The space of system paritition is ALWAYS insufficent. I will try to systemise some Google apps with Magisk modules this weekend and see if it works.
