MIUI V10.0.9.0 PDGMIFH stable - Global - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S Guides, News, & Discussion

MIUI V10.0.9.0 PDGMIFH arrived some minutes ago.
Update Notes:
->System
New: Google Lens support
ill install that soon..
Kind Regards
edit: Typo

I updated to V10.0.9.0 PDGMIFH ...there's Google Lens in camera, but no Night Mode (or Night Scene) anywhere in Camera app... or I can't find it
I guess it will be in later updates...

It says that only "Google Lens" is added as support. This mean you can now find "Google lens" as mode in the camera app but nothing else like Night Mode or something like that.

just got my Mi Mix 2s from Amazon. I've been debating flashing all sorts of MIUI roms (eu and such).
I think I'm just going to stay with the Global ROM. I did receive 10.0.9.0.
Can someone tell me if the Global Stable (or Dev) here: http://en.miui.com/download-343.html is better to install? The version number is higher, but I'm not sure? Will that version eventually be released OTA? If it matters, I'm in US on AT&T.
Thanks all! Enjoying the device so far!

THANKS! Just updated to 10.2.1.0.
GCAM works now. At least kind of. I can snap several normal photos now without lag and take Night Sight photos, however, they aren't quite focused. Not as easy to take NS photos on the 2S.

Modding, where is?

Now the kernel is a public matter, why we do not have any news for rom portings?
I think this smartphone is very focused on the Chinese market. He does not even appear on Xiaomi's global site. In addition, few devices were released with sd660 and the only competitor of Xiaomi Mi Note 3 is Asus Zenfone 4. However, it is a beautiful and powerful device, I hope developers will create and porting roms soon.
i really love this device, but i miss the opportunity to mod it
wait for mi note 3 release in global soon..it will come best phone soon..
Mine came with chinese rom, but I flashed it with global MIUI 9 (already available) Also unlocked and rooted - very easy but long process (must wait for approve, problems with linking the phone with mi account, then waiting 72 hours to unlock.... finally all is done. Now waiting for stable clean android. I'm coming from nexus world and don't like MIUI very much ...
The phone has great hardware for the price, it will be shame not to have custom roms for it.
IMO an actual section for the Mi Note 3 would be beneficial.
Low record volume on Mi Note 3 ???
Has anybody else low volume when recording with Whatsapp or internal recoder ? When I'm trying to talk normal (distance to mic 30cm / 1 feet), the sound is pretty low, but when I go closer to the microphone, the volume of what I´ve recorded goes up. But here is the thing, when I'm using my old Redmi Note 2 having the same distance to the mic what would be the 30cm, the sound is louder on my old phone. I'm using Global Rom 8.1.4. beta from xiaomi.eu
Already saw on net at least 3 different roms....
I want flash soon it arrives!

2 of them I suppose are based on miui9. Epic-rom and xiaomi.eu. At the moment I'm using Epic. It's fast and stable just like miui9 global. The other one is mokee, but has some bugs.

Did you try mokee's recent rom update for mi note 3? I think mokee is the only custom rom that update oftenly.

Installing a GSI image on the Mi Mix 2s

So in about 15 hours I can unlock my phone finally. First thing I want to try is to install an AOSP Rom from the Treble thread. Did anyone already did this if so how and is everything working well?
I'm going to try it tommorow, if anyone is willing to upload the stock camera app I would be very grateful. So I can try if that app works on a stock Android Rom.
I did try it and mobile data didn't work for me, so I didn't test any further. Also the screen flickers sometimes.
you guys should know that treble is intended towards OEMs and not end users. Treble is nowhere near stable and oyu will have to wait for xiaomi to fix it.
and also you need xiaomis framework in order to use any of the miui apps. Since it is closed source you wont be able to use the camera ever on a custom rom.

You sure about the part with the camera? For example with the mi mix 2 you can use the camera on aosp based custom roms.
Edit: Or are you talking about treble roms specifically?

Sorry I misunderstood you. I thought you said that the camera won't work on aosp based roms at all... This is why I was curious because I was sure I saw mi mix 2 phones with a working cam on aosp. I never owned a xiaomi device before, is the camera quality really that much worse than with miui cam app?

Well normally the biggest downsides of custom roms is inferior camera quality (for the reason stated above). Especially on custom roms for xiaomi phones since they hardly released any sources. Nowdays it changed a bit, google camera port delivers (sometimes) better quality photos if used right.

Ok, thanks for the explanation, in 4 years with the 1+1 camera quality never was important for me... let's hope the best for a good cam quality on custom roms for the 2s, if there will be any...
which other hardware features would we lose on an aosp rom on the mix 2s?
would the fingerprint scanner still work to unlock the phone?
what about pulling the status bar down with the fingerprint scanner?
and face unlock?
camera quality is usually the biggest drawback when switching to custom roms though. when I first heard of project treble I thought that this issue would be gone! i got the impression that the hardware drivers would stay in one partition and over it you could install an AOSP rom. sounded like the best of both worlds! running an aosp rom but still having the same camera quality!
I'm pretty sure that's not the case though. as soon as you flash an aosp rom on a treble device you're back to the point where we've always been. it's just like running a custom rom a year ago. you lose the features, drivers,...
correct me if I'm wrong!

Well, these features are mostly implemented in system software. If the fingerprint gesture is present as a default feature in AOSP, you will have it when you flash a treble rom. If AOSP supports two cameras, you will be able to use them by default in treble etc.
The features generally depend whats implemented in AOSP.
(Assuming that xiaomi implemented treble in the way which is specified by google)

what would you recommend to a western user to get the best out of the camera? To use it default's OS?
I'm planning on buying a Chinese model (my gf is going to China, idk if they sell Global version there) and change it by hand to a global version with google and all. Is that a bad idea?

camera quality wont change if you flash the global rom. just make sure you know what you are doing.

You can just flash global rom or xiaomi.eu Rom, it works just fine for me (I'm from Germany). Camera quality is the same as it is with China Rom. If you buy Chinese version and flash global rom there is no real difference to buying global version (except some Lte bands you probably don't need anyway)
Edit: just saw in another thread that you said you need band 28, I think only 256gb Chinese version or 64gb and 128gb global version have Band 28 so you either have to get the 256gb version or buy a global version

I've tried the AOSP one and it is working surprisingly well, apart from the screen flickering when locking/unlocking and obviously the camera which is normal. The rest of them should perform identically.

Nope, I didn't report it as I went back straight to MIUI so I couldn't have provided any additional feedback to the dev. It wasn't a huge problem for me though as it flicks between min and max brightness only once or twice and only during locking/unlocking (during the usual AOSP screen fading animation). Might report it one day when I'd be in mood to try it again.

Night Scene Camera mode on MIUI 10.0.4.0 ?

I am currently using MIUI 10.0.4.0 Stable on my Mi Mix 2S, may I know when I will be able to get Night Scene camera mode ??
Likely in next update whenever that is (often around 1 month between updates). Worst case it its not in the miui app, they are also updating a lot of the underlying API/Hal stuff and gcam is working GREAT as of the most recent beta build.
Currently gcam night mode better than miui, but it's early days for miui one too... First beta release only.
M.
You may not know. No one knows it as of now..

App crashes on the latest Hydrogen OS Open Beta 14

Hello, I got the H2OS Open Beta 14 update a day ago and it's been a terrible experience since. Amazon, Google, Google Go, and most other apps that I use crash just after they're launched. I also saw a few people say that they face app crashes on the latest OxygenOS Open Beta but I can't confirm for sure. This issue was not present in the previous builds. What's the most hassle-free way to get out of this situation? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Are you a beta tester for the Google Play Services app? If yes, go back to the stable channel, update the app and see, if there's a difference. Last time I had an app crashing issue, it was exactly because of GPS, so it might be the culprit in your case too.
On other note: why H2OS?

Thank you for the quick response! I keep my GPS off most of the times and no, I'm on the stable channel already. Seems like the build has bugs (no surprise since it's beta)
And I bought my OP6 from a friend who wanted money for the 6T, he had given it to me with H2OS. I have a lot of experience with flashing, so I guess switching to OOS is the only solution here. Any good guides on it btw? Because I've heard that you can switch from Oxygen to H2 easily but the other way around is a bit messy.

Google Play Services (GPS - not Global Positioning System ;D) is a vital part of the Google ecosystem, so you can't really have it off if you're using Google apps
But yeah, since it's most probably not the app's fault, I'm not sure where the issue lays - switching to OOS might indeed be a good idea. And as @whizeguy said, the process is easy no matter what you're switching to/from.
EDIT: Actually, could you please check, if you have the newest version of Webview installed (whether or not it needs to be updated)? If it's disabled, then just ignore this, if it isn't however, and it does need an update, then update it and see, if that helps.

Best camera [Custom ROM]?

Hi everyone. I recently flashed a new ROM on this device trying to escape from the overheating, I was expecting a proper camera app but I only found bugs.
I tried Pixel Cam V1.1, I used it on MIUI and it was great but on RROS it became unusable.
Gcam MGC 8.1 by BSG worked but it only recognizes one sensor of 8mpx.
Also the UltraCVM UltraCam but it has so many bugs with lights that is unusable.
The chosen one was Tiger Camera Xmas release, it's almost perfect but trying panorama mode makes it unusable, fortunately the 2x and more are stable.
But I ask for someone that probably have tried another apps or xml config files.
I am considering install the MIUI stock camera from ANX but the POCO X3 isn't listed as compatible device and I don't want to root my phone to be honest. But if someone know about one functional version I will apply it as last resource.
I'm opening this thread to know your opinion, I researched on Gcam thread but it has too many versions that I've tried. I really liked all the sensors and the 64mpx so I need to find an app that takes me closer to use the full camera experience.
FYI, there a whole thread dedicated to Cams at https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/4164397/.
