Hi all,
I haven't used substratum for a long time and wanted to try out some themes on my Pixel, but i can't get it to work.
I'm using the latest substratum version and Magisk v18.0 is running. Phone is running on the December Security Patch.
Themes are usually compiled without any errors, but don't appear to be installed afterwards.
Can somebody help me?
Edit: Well, nevermind. Flashed the Rescue zip and all of a sudden the overlays appeared in Substratum Manager.

So I am running full stock on my Pixel that is updated to Oreo. I've read through the latest thread (HERE) on the new beta for Magisk that supports Pixel devices and wanted to know what steps folks may have followed to get this installed and working. The regular thread details some steps but it appears that those are driven towards other devices and doesn't account for the difference of Pixel devices.
Thx!
loaded up fine on my pixel!

Are you able to share the steps you took to get it loaded? It would seem that it isn't the same as other or previous version since those didn't apply to pixel devices.
Thx
Do modules work?
There's an offical Magisk Pixel (XL) Thread
I'm running it on Pure Nexus July build now. I ended up having to re-flash (dirty) the ROM to clear up the old goodwin_c Magisk install.
Seems okay for now. I have a couple of modules loaded but haven't had the opportunity to test whether they actually work. AirAudio at least doesn't fire a warning that the module isn't found.
There is a new update today. Mods were broken. Supposedly fixed now.

Suh Forum!
I apologize if this has been asked before but I just joined the community today. Soz.
Getting straight to the point, NONE of my Substratum themes work on my rooted Xperia XZ (F8332/Dual). When I click "Enable & Build", it builds and applies with no errors but the theme does not get applied even after a reboot. I have flashed and re-flashed the ROM, unrooted and re-rooted multiple times, have chosen the right ROM when applying the theme, but everything to no avail.
One of the reasons I rooted is because I wanted to use Substratum but it does not work I am a total noob, so a detailed solution for this will be greatly appreciated. And please go easy with the lingo :cyclops:
SPECS - I am running on Nougat 7.1.1 Stock ROM (1st Oct security patch) downloaded from Xperifirm, 3.1.1-0 TWRP and rooted using v2.82 SuperSu.
Hi, I would like to run Substratum on my phone (Xiaomi Mi5 on LineageOS 15.1 - Android 8.0.1 - rooted) but its slightly confusing.
I downloaded Substratum, but after opening it tells me to install Andromeda. What is the purpose of Andromeda? As far as I understand it is needed if the phone is unrooted? DO I have to buy the ap for running substratum on my rooted phone?
Thank you!
Edit: After severeal attempts in reinstalling the app it now works!
So I am running beta 3 of Ressurection Remix from OpenKirin website. Everything is smooth even after heavy tweaks. But I want to root this ROM. Reason is I want to uninstall built-in apps and some of my apps require root access. I already tried rooting the ramdisk.img. it failed. Even though it was rooted root access wasn't available. So can I directly flash latest magisk via elemental ROM TWRP? Or is there any other method?
Like you, I'm on the same build from yesterday, and obviously the minimum that I'd like to do is to root the ROM, since that we already miss a fully working TWRP and a compatible Xposed framework.
I discovered just yesterday topjohnwu's thread about patching the stock boot.img with the custom Magisk Manager apk for Huawei devices, but before doing everything I've decided to make a search on XDA, and I've stumbled upon this. So neither patching the stock ramdisk.img works?? Dammit. Becsuse standing by what i know, flashing latest Magisk on an A only GSI works, but i haven't read successful cases rooting an OpenKirin ROM yet.
I'd like to test this method, but i still have to setup some stuff on this ROM, and so i don't want to try something that could mess up system, trashing all the time that I've spent on configuring the device.
I'll update ya as soon as i can, if something useful should come out. I hope to update you soon!
Dude. I have done it and would like to tell you that it can be flashed normally. Currently enjoying root with all modules working. If you have an honor 6x just flash TWRP from elemental room thread and then latest magisk. So far no issues, no bootloop. However after first installation I recommend you to install via direct patch once again to ensure everything works. i.eif you still wanna know. This is way simpler
Thanks for letting me know mate, yeah i have a 6X. Actually I've installed TWRP and flashed latest stable Magisk, V17.1. Magisk is correctly detected by Magisk Manager.
Now, the file that i should provide to patch on Magisk Manager is stock EMUI 8.0 boot.img, correct?
Nope. If you have magisk installed just direct install once again via magisk manager and you're good to go
Thanks Mannan, I'm enjoying root goodies too now.
I take the chance to ask ya if sound mods like Viper/Dolby Atmos will also work or not as a Magisk module, since that time ago (but even recently) i saw some users that was saying in a couple of threads that flashing one of these would corrupt system files, and so EMUI 8 had to be flashed again.
First of all we aren't on EMUI 8bso no corruption. We are on Android 8.1 so any Sound Mod for this Firmware should work. Now I haven't flashed it yet cause mainly I have to find a working one and of the risk of soft brick. But I will try and let you know if I find a working one. Same goes for exposed framework
Got it. Well it would be great, especially Xposed in systemless version.
EDIT - going off topic a while, even you notice a charging time much slower than on stock? Before, i usually charged something like 60-65% in one hour, now it tooks at least 1 hour and an half to achieve the same percentage of battery. Gotta tweak this someway.
Tried installing Viper4android. Gives IO error while mounting driver. Xposed I havent tried

Thanks for the feedback. Sadly i think that Xposed won't work too.
Hi,
Can someone please tell me what is the latest version of OTA update available for Pixel 2016 on Android Oreo 8.1.0 and how to download/Install that? I just flashed 8.1.0 (OPM4.171019.021.P1, Jul 2018) on it from Android Factory Images site. I don't want to Install Android Pie on it yet as xposed framework can not be installed on Pie yet. Please advise, thanks.
You can download the entire factory image from the official site, or download the ota from the other official page.
The last one 8.1 is the one from july. If you need to flash it after wipe, go with the factory image, if you just need to update from an older one, go with the ota.
Anyway, a sort of "unofficial" Xposed for Pie is available since january, called EdXposed.
In this thread there is the list of working and not-working modules, and it's always up to date.
I already tested it, and it's working pretty good. Also, EdXposed doesn't trip safetynet, while the classic Xposed does.
Just flash in magisk the 2 zips, install the manager and reboot.

Thanks, Trento.
Couple of quick points to confirm, so no other official update of Oreo on Pixel (Sailfish) came out since July 2018? and it will have to be updated to Pie to get any more security patches/updates after July 2018?
if so, it is kinda strange if no monthly or quarterly update for a last major Android release from Google on their own devices for people who for some reasons still want to stick with that? I know I was getting updates on my good old Nexus 5 on Stock Marshmallow long after release of Android Nugget 7.0.
Also, Xposed Framework installed as a module via Magisk also trips SafetyNet check in Android?
Thanks again!
Yes, that's how google makes updates, since a newer version of android came out all the security stuff and updates are only in the newer version. No more Oreo updates.
No matter how you flash the original Xposed , system or systemless it will always trip saferynet.
Things are different with EdXposed, safetynet passes so you can use all your apps with no problems at all

I will give a try to EdXposed on Pie today and see how it goes. I just can't go without a few Xposed modules installed, i.e. GravityBox, xRenamer, and couple of others, Thanks for the info.
