Better not to expect anything soon, we don't even have a working 15.1 port.

I'm crawling back in my hole right now I've had it. We have 2 unofficial lineage one with OMS one with out. Official lineage and 47 other ROMs based off it thanks to dev for rom

ikr? literally every single ROM for athene is lineage with swapped code and boot animations, minus perhaps GZR Tipsy and RevivorOS.
Even the AOSP ROMs are basically lineage.
We will have possibility of official support of lineage os or unofficial? Hopefully they can include this great phone in their compilation lists.

Xiaomi has just released kernel sources for tiffany（Mi 5x ). the official github page is:

Just as on tissot N, Xiaomi have squashed all their changes and applied over wrong CAF tag.
I took the proper caf base (LA.UM.5.6.r1-06100-89xx.0) and applied Xiaomi changes over it with some cleanups here.

Will unofficial stuff like Lineage os or Twrp Recovery develop into Official builds? I mean Official builds are powered by individual maintainer right?

I'm already up-streaming kernel to lineage 15.0 but will take sometime since they are something like 3000+ commits by starting from stock branch but I'm on the good road
Edit: I can't promise that will boot because 7.1 isn't same as 8.x due to treble stuff need a lot of patches.

Yes, the maintainer from Lineage OS, is working on the official Lineage OS 16 ROM, based on PIE.
