Oreo performance - Honor 6X Questions & Answers

How is the performance for those who updated to oreo (officially, unofficially or custom roms) as compared to marshmallow and nougat?
Did the so-called GPU Turbo make any significant improvements in demanding games like PUBG?

In nougat the antutu score was around 74k and in oreo(India) the score was 85k so performance has definitely increased. It feels slightly smoother. Indian oreo rom doesn't have GPU turbo so cannot say.

Oreo sucks. Or it did for me and some other bloke. The only thing that was supposed to be good about Oreo was the Project Treble support. But even that is useless as 9 out of 10 ROMs in the Project Treble section don't boot on Kirin Device. I tried 5 ROMs and of them only one booted and it also was broken. OpenKirin GSI's work but rooting them is tedious and patched Ramdisk never really worked for me. The only reason I can give you for waiting for Oreo or manually upgrading to it is that there are a lot of great Custom ROM out there but they require Oreo. Other than that it's trash. I mean at least stock Oreo is.
Speaking of custom Oreo ROMs they're amazing. I tried OpenKirin RROS and it was amazing. Smooth and Feature Packed. Currently I'm on a Pie Custom ROM and it's also smooth and has some features.

Never used EMUI 8 long enough to find out. All I can say is that EMUI 8 sucks.

Oreo ROM with manual camera support

Is there any Oreo ROM which supports manual camera settings like shutter speed more than 2 seconds? We had this function on cyanogen, I tried LineageOS but without luck. Then I switched to RR nougat and manual controls worked until last update to oreo...
Now all camera applications have maximum 2 seconds shutter speed by default. If someone can recommend me Oreo ROM which supports that...I don't want to flash every ROM to test it, tried using search but without luck.

Can you be more specific, I tried some nougat sultan roms before and max shutter speed was 2 seconds if i remember correctly. Which ROM do you recommend?

Yes, you have good memories. All Oreo rom use oss blob(same as Sultanxda blob), so max shuttle speed is 2 secs right now. I recommend AOSP Extended

Treble Roms with Honor8

So guys now all the Honor 8 will be compatible with Treble with the Android 8. Now my question is how to flash treble roms and which roms are compatible with our Honor 8 without bricking it.
My last question is if we have treble, our honor 8 will not have annoying bugs with custom roms right? (ex: camera quality)
It's still kinda early to ask these kinds of questions, wait until oreo is out globally

Funny story. A P9 user in XDA who got Oreo did manage to install a GSI treble ROM (Resurrection Remix Oreo ROM) aid everything worked fine except the Camera. So looks like it could happen to other Kirin 95X devices as well. But hopefully it can be fixed with some tinkering.

Hi. So now when most people have official oreo (L09-C432 has it now too) via hurupdater etc. which Custom ROM to flash? I tried one from telegram openkirin group (LOS B5 preview) and it didnt boot (stuck on LOS loading). There are still only ROMs without working camera?

have you factory resetted the phone in eRecovery?
(and did you flashed the rom through fastboot without twrp?)
Because I'm using the same LOS and it is has the OG hWcamera.
LOS beta 5 is the most complete treble rom that you can use right now for honor8
Just asking are there Treble ROMs that are for Daily use and have functional camera?

OpenKirin's Lineage OS 15.1 Beta 5. This is actually a really stable build and both of the cameras work like a charm, thanks to the EMUI camera app port. This is the ONLY ROM right now that you can use as your main operating system. Please go on and try it! Reminder:
Even if the website says nothing about Kirin 950 support, this LOS version contains the microcode for Honor 8, Note 8 and Mate 8 for the 950 compatibilities. Just follow the steps on the website and you have a highly customizable stock Android experience that works like it was your phone's default OS.

Hey there...
I pulled the version from the Firmware finder app / website and followed the approach on installing based on the method provided to install unapproved ROMs.
Once installed then you can install other treble ROMs from openkirin.net..

Check openkirin.net website... they have a few treble roms there ... RR, LOS and Carbon..
They also have a telegram group and on the group they said that for Honor 8, to overcome the camera problem you will have to restart post the first boot and it should work
Hope it helps

Thanks guys for replying, now I am waiting for Oreo to drop on FRD-L09C432 it should be approved very soon, but also one question if someone already installed LOS how's the battery life compared to stock nougat?
I'm using OmniROM (via OpenKirin group) and it's rock solid and super smooth.
Battery life is perfect too. Got 6 hours SOT with 27% battery left.

I'm on it too, but I installed the gsi on my LeEco Le Max 2 with a snapdragon 820, it's not so smooth on it but its way more appealing, the stock android p is so much more beautiful its. mesmerizing to say the least, so I wondered if anyone tried and saw whether it works or no and with what bugs!!

Is oreo and emui 8 update worth it?

Is it worth it?
I am not excited about a single new feature of emui 8
I'll be excited if i can install Android P stock on my Honor 8.
I'm on omnirom with 8.1. it's awesome compared to nougat. And as of right now no you cannot install P on the honor 8. But, there is something in the works.

Perfectly. Stock camera also. I know on LOS i believe, you have to restart the phone to get it to connect but i haven't experienced that issue on omni. First time on omni also so i wasn't expecting much, but i absolutely love it
LOS 15 Beta 5 is pretty stable for me so far. Android Auto, camera (including honor camera app), calling, bluetooth all work as expected.

Oreo security patches?

It looks like Huawei/Honor continues the development of security patches for EMUI 5 - b410 is approved by IMEI and contains August patches, while b412 contains September patches and will probably be approved soon. However, nothing new on the EMUI 8 side of things.
I don't remember how things were with the EMUI 4->5 transition, but the fact that they continue to focus on providing updates only for the old emui doesn't fill me with confidence.
Was 8.0.0.521 an one-off? I hope not.
I think Oreo is an one-off. Infact i returned back to b407
It's really disappointing, because the B521 firnware has some annoying bugs.
To me, the fact that Huawei controls both processor (Kirin) and OS (EMUI), should mean that they would be of the likes of Apple and iOS, or the likes of Google and Pixels: each version of EMUI should be able to be installed on all compatible phones, on launch day. I can't believe they cannot do that, unless their developers' skills are so bad.
This is a lost opportunity, in favour clearly of selling more phones. They envision being better than Apple, without taking the first page of their book: fewer phones, better support.
If that's the case in the end, "so long and thanks for all the fish".

That's nice that it worked for you - however a lot of people didn't want to switch to a custom treble ROM; they just needed a properly updated official OS with security updates.

"LOS - Stability, basic, like AOSP, but with a tad bit more customizability
OmniROM - Both hitting the sweet spot between RR and LOS. NFC.
RR - Really good battery life, customization to the max"
I am using RR coz of the customizations. AFAIK all the roms are usable as daily driver. There might be minor bugs here and there but nothing too big. NFC is only available on Omni. No VoLTE support on any rom. Thats all i can think of right now. Their web has detailed info.

Yeah I think it's pretty easy. It's a root solution, in general. Installation guide which you can use also for our device can be found here. Usage is pretty easy but now we're getting off topic with that.
