I'm on Magisk rooted and unlocked op6 with newest stock Oreo oos. Every time I install the newest apk for the camera app, when taking a picture, the picture stores rotated 90 degrees and stretches. Why does this happen and does anyone know what the newest version for Oreo is?

Anyone have any success with this camera? Just wondering. I installed the zip and followed the instructions in the OP for this thread:

Panorama crashed the camera app and Sphere didn't seem to ever end, it kept having me take photos of the same place. I am using sverhagen's cm 9.1 r8 stable.

The 4.2 Camera mostly works for me, as the Photo Sphere is only 1% working. Get it to take the 1st pic, but the tracking after is not working. 1st pic just very very slowly moves and I give up after 5 mins of staring at the screen
Running the last CM 9 alpha released. Installed the main 4.2 from AP (it wouldn't load the sphere at all) and then the patch AP released (all links are down now due to Google as expected). Even changed my build.prop as suggested here and no change to the behavior.
I just saw This thread so the question I think will be does MT4GS have a Gyro?
And just found the answer to my own question ...NOPE
Ok so I got the 4.4.2 OTA last night and the video camera sucks big time,I've downloaded the stock 4.4 camera apk but when I run it, it just says app not installed, so I tried to copy it directly to the system/app folder but the folder seems to be set to read only so I can't delete the new camera or replace it with the older one,Tried using es file explorer
Anyone managed to do reinstall the older stock 4.4 Camera ?
Dude u need Root to Change a System App.
But if u have a Problem with 4.2.2 try to get Out of the Box 4.4 with Sideload 4.4.2 update
And plus, the Camera. apk wasn't the only modified file

It is more than the apk. You have to roll back to 4.4.0 as the changes are more than just the camera apk.
The new camera is dark in lower light but honestly I think the quality looks much better over all with it. Google just capped the camera to preserve quality by forcing it to be darker in low light. Take it outside in the day light or a well lit room it should be true to life then.
Either way you will need to unlock your bootloader and root so you can roll back to 4.4 if you want the 4.4 camera performance.

I agree the camera is better in the sense that it is faster but it now doesn't run in full screen anymore,Also I'm talking about the video recording is almost pitch black,There was nothing wrong with video recording before the update so why they messed with that I have no idea,
Thanks for the help, looks like I'm going back to 4.4

The preview isn't fullscreen? Thank goodness they fixed that. With 4.4 you get a 16:9 viewscreen for a 4:3 picture...
Also if you use a camera app that let's you control you're own exposure time you won't have to worry about the limitations of Google's automatic settings.
I tried downloading APK's but they don't finish installing.
I liked the Oreo camera because it had features like AR and Bokeh which have been removed in the most recent update.
Not sure why they were removed, since the Bokeh wasn't even that bad.
Any suggestions for another camera app which would use the Honor Play depth sensor to create the effect rather than fake it in post?
Or better yet, is there a way to reinstall the previous camera?

I don't think so since you can't root honor play easily
if you can root it then get oreo camera apk and replace it with pie camera which needs to be deleted first

Hmm that's a shame. I didn't think I'd need to root it to get a previous version. This must mean that it seeks the version number of the phone.
Are there any other camera app's that'll actually create the bokeh effect as well as it did on the Android 8 camera?
I had a Xiaomi Mi5 which could do 32s long exposure. But Google Pixel can't do that. Why is it like that? Even other manual cameras from playstore can't go beyond 0.6s shutter!
Is there a way to get long exposure on Google pixel?
Yes, i have 59s exposure on my OG Pixel with manual ISO control too. It's AMAZING. But you need root
Download Gcam camera mod from this thread and also download this SavitarP1_Gcam_Patch.zip from this cstark post https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80216166&postcount=1095
Install Gcam and then flash this patch and you will have 59s exposure too. Also you will have portrait mode. Also keep your eye on that thread he will add new features after Pixel 4 release with it's new version 7 Google camera.
Does rooting take away ota update?
Thanks for the reply . I'm using cstark's gcam 6.3 app without root which gives me portrait mode. On Android 9 increasing shutter speed also worked ( not so much maybe upto 3-4 seconds, I don't know for sure; as no matter how much long duration I selected, it took the same time.) It changed the photo from total darkness to a daytime like photo!
But on Android 10 it's not working :crying:
I found the astrophotography mode in another apk but it doesn't take 1 min 4 sec on my pixel like it seems to be doing in pixel 3. And the photos are not even close to what I took with 6.3 on Android 9 with cstark's apk
About rooting, if I do it would I get os updates? Or do I have to update manually?
Caution to Android 10 users, SavitarP1_Gcam_Patch will break Camera PXv1.1 app. Twrp installs fine, then breaks app. Just used Magisk module "removal on next boot" removed fine. Pie was fine. I do have gcam 7.0.0.009 installed though on both 9 and 10 if it matters.

No it does not break. I had PXv1.0 + Savitar patch then update came and i installed manually PXv1.1 with no problems at all.
Gcam 7 is not complete prodact thus i am sure your problems came from having that version installed.
Howdy!
I'm using LineageOS (without Gapps) on my OnePlus 7 Pro and it's great. The only drawback is the camera.
I installed the Stock ROM OP camera app and gallery app and they kind of 'work' but the picture quality is just not there. It looks a lot worse, especially in wide angle mode.
Very soft, mushy, very grainy in the shadows, just overall poor quality.
Also, the camera app crashes when I open it every time. I have to long-click and select a mode, that's the only way to open the app. I also can't get from the camera directly to the gallery.
I'm using the 'correct' versions since I got the apk from my device when it was running OxygenOS 10.3.1
I tried installing 'OnePlus Camera service' apk, but it wouldn't install.
Did any of you guys figure out how to get the stock camera to work on a custom rom? I suspect there is some post processing app needed that runs in the background, cleaning up the picture.
thanks!
You should give Gcam a go.
There's a good discrption in the apps thread
I haven't seen OOSCam work well in any ROM. Gcam is great for photos, but stock OOS cam is what I want to use for video. It's the reason I went back to stock.
