Magisk issues on Openkirin ROM - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Installing magisk without TWRP
Hi,
I'm on the latest OmniROM by OpenKirin and I just tried installing Magisk by flashing modified ramdisk.img file created by the Magisk Manager app. It flashed successfuly and the phone boots up alright, but I can't get Magisk to work. The app either crashes straight ahead or won't turn on at all.
Do you have any ideas what I might've done wrong? I used the ramdisk.img for the Emui 8 rom corresponding with my device (FRD-L09). I'm very new to all of this.

Bootloop with OOS 9.0.3 on OP6 when magisk v18 is installed

Installation steps are as follow when updating from 9.0.2 to 9.0.3.
Flashed full zip from bluspark twrp
Immediately flash bluspark twrp zip after that
Reboot into recovery
Flashed Magisk v18 zip (Also tried v17.3 zip)
Reboot system
After that, boot animation is shown and followed by Shutting down dialog with my wallpaper behind it, then rebooted into TWRP itself. I cannot reboot into system until I flash full zip again, but I lost my root now. Above steps were used when I update from older version to 9.0.2 and it was ok at that time. Bluspark latest stable (3.2.3) was used. Any idea how to fix please? Thanks.

flash magisk uninstaller, then reinstall magisk v18 and add one module at a time to understand which one causes bootloop
It worked. Thank you!
Just a heads up next upgrade: disable all (except ROMs maybe) magisk mods, also disable substratum themes before updates. They can make your phone bootloop or system UI crash. Glad it works fine now
For me, flashing magisk uninstall and reinstalling v18 still didn't work. I had to install beta version 17.3 after flashing the uninstall, then I installed magisk manager when it successfully booted and finally updated to v18 through the manager. Not sure why v18 wouldn't work even after flashing magisk uninstall, but 17.3 worked.
I also had this problem on a fresh OS install. Had to install:
Magisk 17 then
Magisk 18 then
Magisk 19
This is a crazy bug

Have you tried magisk uninstaller and fresh start without any module? In my case one of my custom made module was causing problem because i didn't update it to latest template. Try one module at a time to find the culprit.
You need to disable all magisk modules before doing system update, otherwise it goes in auto shutdown and then you need to flash magisk uninstaller and then re-flash magisk
And remember to remove pin/password lock too
OFFTOPIC:
I have 9.0.3 + TWRP. What are exactly steps do nuke, clean, and reinstall 9.0.3? Need info about correct order and options on Format on TWRP.
Thank you.

Format DATA from TWRP then boot to system once and when it's ready you can reboot to twrp to install magisk if you want

So I update my device in last OTA update, OOS version is oxygen OS 10.0.3.GM21AA
Twrp version is Twrp-3.3.1-74-guacamole-unified-Q (tried official and unofficial both)
Magisk 20.1.
Now when ever i flash Magisk device gose in to Fastboot (bootloop) & if i uninstall magsik with uninstall zip, device behave normal and boot into OOS system,

That's what I was going to ask. Sounds like a module issue to me.

RenovateIce ROM (9.0)?
Try: TWRP->Advanced->File Manager->/data->/adb->/modules->RIce module, or something like that-> folder icon->delete->(swipe) and Reboot->System

Try TWRP 70
Same thing happened to me, tried almost everything one could think of , even swapped active slots to no avail, eventually found thread on fastboot flashing back to stock and all was fixed. Probably was due to unremoved/undeleted magisk modules(as others have already stated), but once the phone boot loops had no way to get modules removed posthumously......also ran magisk uninstaller to try to resolve and no joy.....like is said after a day and a half just flashed it via fastboot flashing .bat files and all was swell....mines a converted GM1915 to 1917 .....good luck!

[OP7][OOS11] root not working with Magisk patched boot.img

Hey,
Yesterday i received the official global version of Ogygen OS 11 (OnePlus7Oxygen_14.E.35_OTA_0350_all_2103221233) for my Oneplus 7 which made me happy and i installed it on my current TWRP and root Ogygen OS 10. Afterwards my root and TWRP was gone. I read many threads now about that TWRP is not available currently for Android 11. So i was stuck with extracting the boot.img from the stock zip file and patching it with the latest canary Magisk (66e30a77 (22006)). The patch is successful.
After i flashed the boot.img to boot_a and boot_b via fastboot the phone restarted but there was still no root. (Magisk still showed that its not installed and superuser rights for Magisk also weren't granted->notification during start).
After trying and validating that i used the latest version of everything and also did a factory reset and tried the same handling again, i tried to use the latest beta Oxygen OS11 stock image for flashing the boot.img (same handling as before). After flashing i gained superuser rights and magisk was installed but no bluetooth and WIFI was working so there was an issue (is clear because it was not the same stock zip).
So does anyone of you might have already an solution for this?
Rgds,
Matthias

Hello,
Did you see this thread right below yours?
Android 11 OB4
Just installed OB4, anybody got a boot.img file or magisk patched boot image file? Also any news on TWRP for Android 11? Thanks in anticipation OK I was just lazy hoping somebody Elese did the work. Ended up using my OB2 patched boot image file...
forum.xda-developers.com
Magisk canary can also cause a lot of issues. I'm using 22.0.
Hey thank you! I already saw this and tried it out before to get TWRP working as in the Oxygen OS 11 Beta but this TWRP version does not work with the official OOS11 for the Oneplus 7. It's strange that on Open Beta it works and now its not working.
Watching this thread because I'm stuck too. I either need locked bootloader or unlocked with Magisk
Does anyone already has a solution to this one?
I got the OTA today for 11.0.0.2, rooted fine with Magisk 22.1. Check out my guide:

Question LineageOS 18.1 + Magisk OTA howto?

hi
i have a poco x3 pro, rooted (magisk) and running LineageOS 18.1
Now i get my first OTA and wonder how to retain root, after upgrading.
with my Mi A1 it was
* restore boot image from within magisk manager
* install OTA
* reinstall magisk after OTA in magisk manager in second partition
* reboot
as far as i see X3 Pro has no A/B scheme
I'm using TWRP and Magisk flashed as zip by TWRP. This way a proper addon script is installed and Magisk survives OTA. The same goes for gapps.
If you install Magisk by flashing prepared boot.img, then you have to repeat this procedure after each OTA update.
You don't have to restore original boot.img before OTA. LineageOS is not an incremental update, it is full system, which overwrites boot.img, regardless of what it contains.
thanks for answering. i did my first install this way:
install LOS via lineageos recovery, add gapps, add magisk, reboot
i now installed the OTA from inside Lineagos. root lost. i checked for the existance of /system/addon.d/99-magisk.sh and the script was (and still is) there. do i need to download OTA and afterwards install the update from recovery?
Maybe it is a problem of LineageOS recovery. I'm using official TWRP. You probably have to install Magisk again. I think you can switch to TWRP at any time, it is compatible with Lineageos.
worked, thanks for pointing me into the correct direction!
the steps so far:
1* reinstall magisk (by patching boot.img from the OTA and booting into that and reinstall magisk)
2* download the next OTA
3* install twrp (i used the path through play-store)
4* start the installation of OTA (from inside android)
5* poco reboots into twrp
6* unlock with my password/pin
7* twrp does some magic/installs OTA
8* boot into system
9* everything is fine
from now on it should work from step 4
merry xmas!

General Magisk 25.1 stable is out

Just updated from 24.3 to 25.1, everything seems fine.
First update of the manager, no problem. In manager tried to update magisk from 24.3 to 25.1. No errors in the log, but my phone (Mi9T Pro) didn't get past the Miui logo. Flashed 24.3 in Recovery again.
Any thoughts on how to update?
Edit: Solved. Dowloaded zip and flashed in recovery. All's well.
I have problem - I followed guide (https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-install-magisk/)
On my Xiaomi A2 (jasmine_sprout) I've extracted boot.img, patched with app and flashed boot from PC and after reboot I have Magisk app version 1.0. After running it it want's to upgrade but after downloading and confirming upgrade it upgrades, icon is changed to magisk app and then it is fall backed to basic version 1.0. Tried to adb install v25.1 from pc and it says:
adb: failed to install Magisk-25.1(25100).apk: Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLE: Package com.topjohnwu.magisk signatures do not match previously installed version; ignoring!]
After manual unistalling remaining v1.0 new can be installed but when executed it is auto degraded to version 1.0
Could somebody give me a clue what happened?

Did you use magisk 25.1 to patch boot.img? And are you on Android 12?
I'm on android 11 And I've used magisk version 25.1 to patch boot.img
If you have twrp, try flash magisk in twrp.
