Resolution for No Download Progress bar on custom ROMs - Xiaomi Poco F1 Guides, News, & Discussion

So, a lot of people are facing a strange issue after flashing custom ROMs. They can't see the download progress bar on notification panel and banging their head for a fix. Different people are suggesting for different workaround and most of them simply don't work. I have found a fix which works 100%. I have helped a few people on a few ROM thread, but I can't keep copy pasting the same post everywhere or else people will start complaining for duplicate posts. So, I have decided to make a separate post giving the steps and I will request the moderators to delete all the previous posts on ROM thread. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Please follow the below steps if you can't see any download progress bar on your device (Please note that not everyone is facing the issue).
1. Settings>Apps & Notifications>See all apps>Click on 3 dot menu>Show system>Scroll down & click on Android setup>Click on Storage>Clear cache & storage>Force stop
2. Go back>Scroll down>Select Download manager>Click on Notifications>Uncheck all three options (In progress, Done & Queued) and check again>Click on storage> Clear cache>Force stop
3. Restart the device
4. That's it. Now download an app and check!!

On some ROMs, there are two Android Setup available under system apps, if you notice carefully (I don't know why). You need to wipe Storage and cache on both apps (if you see two Android Setup on your ROM). Once done, follow the rest of the steps and reboot the device once. I have confirmed the steps on LOS, NOS, PE and Pixel Dust and it's 100% working (Don't know about other ROMs as I haven't tried them).

Actually I don't have Android setup at all I have Android system and interface .. that's all .. I have 2 download "app"

The steps that work for me on NOs was disable both android setup, clear cache on both too, later force stop of download manager and clear cache, reboot and done, anyway thanks!

By the way, there is a new kid on the block called MSM Xtended rom. I have just tried it. It's amazing. You can try it as well (no I am not associated with them and I am not advertising. )

I tried it earlier to be honest. I still went back to MIUI 10. There's something on MSMX that's not making me want to stay, I just can't figure out what it was lol.

Stability? Well, no custom ROMs are as stable as stock. This is what I have noticed so far

For me, Pixel Experience for Poco F1 is solid as stock MIUI. The only thing missing is the IR Camera.

PE is damn slow according to my taste. After a couple of days, everything becomes slow. App opening speed, performance everything. No wonder why the benchmark score is so less on PE. I found NOS a lot better than PE. Its super smooth, snappy, has the right amount of customization and an amazing developer who is mostly available for the users @Shahan_mik3

[GUIDE][ROM FLASHING][WALK THRU][WIP] Easy to do!

This should help anyone who keeps having flashing issues.
THIS IS ONE QUICK/SIMPLE ERROR FREE ROM FLASHING PROCEDURE
Here is my quick rom flashing process I use ALWAYS (yes always)
THINGS YOU NEED ON SDCARD
1. Extra kernels (2 or 3 you know works for your device)
2. Optional: 2 recoveries that can be flashed (I use CWM & TWRP)
3. Optional: apps.zip (a zip created from Titantium BU, containing Root Explorer, TU Backup, Quickpic, ES File Explorer and Terminal Emulator)(OR WHATEVER YOU USE)
apps.zip not included. Create your own.
Flashing the rom:
1. Backup current rom (to the sdcard)
2. Complete wipe, (I do complete, some people do not) Complete = No Issues
[FACTORY RESET + CLEAR CACHE + CLEAR DALVIK CACHE + CLEAR SYSTEM]
3. Flash the rom
4. [TW roms this step is not needed] Flash gapps for aosp roms if applicable.
5. Boot the rom.
FINISHED!!!! SUCCESS!!!
Total time to flash a rom:
7-10min
Errors - NONE
TIPS:
I am in no way responsible for anything that may do damage to any device - Use these tips at your own risk - period!
If you found this useful in any way, please hit the THANKS button for my effort.

What's quick about this it's pretty much the same as any rom op
Not for the old timers, this is basically a quick ref for the newer peeps.
Most of us know these things, but there are others that don't.
Don't worry, the post will get buried sooner or later.
Thanks
thanks for writing this up.
maybe this would be a decent sticky for the QnA section?
maybe add a touchwiz section? an explanatinon of what aroma installer is? With a warning that some of the roms are close to 1gb in size? (at least when i tried some a while ago, not sure if they slimmed down.
adding that the OP is always a good source for info of any rom

Recovery differences?
Does anyone have any opinion/knowledge on the differences between CWM and TWRP? I mean, I've used them both. I know the difference in appearance, and use. But is there any difference in reliability? Is one better for TW or AOSP? Is one more reliable? Better at different things? Some devs recommend one and some another. Opinions? Experiences?

Important. For those who are using AOSP/AICP 7.0 ROM

1.Okay so, in this thread I'm going to post a fix for the infamous mobile data bug I.e mobile data which stubbornly refuses to turn on until restart
2. Substratum weird notification toasts after installing dark themes in which the lowercase y,g,q are incompletely rendered or else, in simple terms, they look weird because the lines don't seem to fit the toast
3. Only 2g bug
3. Overheating bug and battery drain
4. People who are sceptical about doze
5. No sim detected problem
6.Video recording bug
7. And if any more bugs, please mention. The above ones are all fixable although 5th and 1st require some workaround.
Important note. : to make sure that you don't encounter any sim card problem, clean flash this ROM only if you have flashed the official ROMs
Fixes :
1. Install any cm13 nightly. Dial *#*#4636#*#* and change the network type to WCDMA(3G) Preferred (or any G according to your choice). I recommend this step as a must because it hardwires the device to use all of types of desired networks and not enforce only 2g. Also, *please note to insert the data sim in the first slot only* in order to properly use this functionality.
If you are done with the above step, congrats, 80% of the work is already done. Open root explorer and go to /system/etc/apnconfig.XML (something related to APN and I'm sure it'll be the first file). Copy the file and save it somewhere in the internal or external memory.
Now flash android 7.0 and replace the same file in /system/etc/ and set the permission to read only I.e disable every right to write that file.
(This will work in most cases. If not then its a modem issue perhaps )
Edit : I found a new fix. Change the APN name to EE
and APN to everywhere
2. Go to display, change the display size to large and text size to small.
3. Flash the latest ROM of AOSP and disable clusterplug. There's already a tutorial on it in moto x play section. Please google it also govtuner is reportedly working.
4.doze works and phone goes to deep sleep. Observed via EX kernel manager
5.flash the stock ROM properly and then reflash this. Also possibly this is due to .70 volte update. So make sure you use the .52 update before flashing this ROM
6.use google camera and set the quality to 720p
7.you mention.
I'm no developer and I love to experiment. I'll make it a point to experiment on any other bugs if present
Thank you and please post your opinions.
Update : I disabled the aggressive doze in greenify and the data seems to work with the normal apn settings 'apparently'. Although this is the case with android n only. I didn't face this whole using cm13
Also I recommend periodic clearing of partition cache
This is definitely posted in the wrong section. What about this thread implies "Original Android Development" ?
Should be in the general discussion section.

It doesn't matter what your logic is. This section is for developers that are posting their original work.
The point is to keep the forums properly organized. Not to make it as easy as possible for users who can't search a thread for solutions that have already been talked about.

NcX S8+ PortSo I'm finally sharing this ROM lol.
A lot of the people that are in my Telegram group already knew about this ROM from long ago. I just felt lazy to upload it to xda. And now I feel bad about it xD
Because if I do say so myself, it is my best work.
Yes, it's still Oreo. Right now, porting Pie to Pie seems to be difficult-impossible due to some deodexing stuff and such, son don't expect me to try to port anything related to Pie (specially because I am not a huge fan over OneUI. I'd take Samsung Experience's looks over it any day
Well, with that said. Here is what you can expect from this ROM

FAQ
[Q] My phone is stuck in bootloop/infinite boot, what should I do?
[A] It is normal for first instalation to take aprox 10-20 minutes on first boot, let it sit for a little bit
[Q] Even after 20 minutes, my phone is still in a bootloop/infinite boot, what can I do?
[A] It is possible that your previoius Android setup is conflicting with this new setup. Please, do the following:
1. FORMAT DATA (not WIPE, FORMAT!)
2. Try the instalation of NcX again
[Q] My phone will still not boot, what is my last resort?
[A] Please do the following:
Re-install NcX
After installation finishes, select "Save Logs"
It will save a .txt file in your memory, please post so I can review your problem
[Q] I've found a bug, what should I do
[A] Please read the "Bugs" section of the thread to see if your bug has been reported, if it hasn't, please let me know exactly what the problem is so I can take a look
[Q] My phone isn't rooted, even though I selected a root method
[A] Please make sure you root via Magisk. SuperSU is only there for testing and did not work.
[Q] The phone is going way too slow!
[A] Caused by Magisk. Just reboot the phone 2 or 3 times and the lag will be gone forever.
[Q] Something bothers me and I want it fixed/changed
[A] Please, kindly make a request and if it's within my grasp, I'll try to fix it. Just, don't be rude and demand something. Either that or return to stock, your choice

How to report a bug/Ask for a change
Over the small amount of time I've been doing my edits and shared them with the community, I've noticed something that seems to irritate me. I can't speak for all the developers on this forum, but I do edits/ROMs/PORTs/etc... to what I like. I don't work for anybody else but me. I share my work because it may have something of value to other people and/or some people may share the same taste as me on regards to what they want on a ROM.
That being said, that doesn't mean I will completely ignore what the community has to say.
First and foremost, it must be said, I am merely a beginner. I do not claim to be a professional developer that knows how to add everything, I am nowhere close and I learn as I go.
There are ways to ask for something and/or report a bug when it comes to ROMs, and this post is my attempt to try to explain how to (and how not to) report a bug in order to help me out as much as possible to try to fix something
You can also ask for something to be added, but there are also ways to ask for something
So, here we go
Keep in mind:
I do not add stuff that can easily be downloaded from the Playstore
I, myself, don't do kernel edits
I COULD remove stuff if NOBODY uses it
---REPORTING BUGS---
How NOT to report a bug:
"SystemUI (or any app)is crashing, please help!"
"Instagram doesn't allow me to edit my post, what could be wrong?"
"My bank account app is not letting me do such thing"
These posts are sort of pointless as they only state something but I have no context on what could be causing it. Also, I can't really control (for the most part) third-party apps, so if you're going to ask about them this way, don't even bother
A slightly better way to report a bug:
"I clean installed the ROM and was working fine, after I installed Facebook and logged in, I immediately uploaded a photo and SystemUI started to crash. Can you look in to it?"
"I tried to install Black Neon theme (a link to it would work as well) and it was working fine until I tried to activate AOD (or anything else for some reason) and SystemUI (or any other app) is crashing, could you look in to it?"
"My bank account app doesn't let me take a screenshot of my accounts. I get a toast notification saying "Can't take screenshot due to security policy"
As you can see, this provides a bit more context and explanation on your current situation. This gives me a little more detail on trying to replicate the problem and hopefully could fix it by replicating it. Well, except for point #3 which is out of my hands for the most part (I think). If you include what kernel you're using would make everything better! Also any significant change that would require root (like xposed and or anything that modifies /system also needs to be informed for better results)
The BEST way to report a bug:
LOGCAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please learn the ins and outs of a logcat, this really helps a lot on finding what the problem is. Also, please give a brief explanation as the above examples when providing a log cat
---ASKING FOR STUFF TO BE ADDED---
How NOT to ask for stuff:
On your next update, add iris scanner
You should add (app) on your next update
Hey, please add (app or feature) on your next update
No, I do not work for you. Even if you say please like the third example, that doesn't mean you're being polite. It still sounds like an order lol so you should probably rephrase your request.
How to ask for stuff to be added to my work:
Would you be so kind to add (feature) to your ROM, if possible?
Would it be possible to add this app to your ROM?
Please, can you add (feature) to your ROM, if it isn't much to ask?
See how politeness makes everything better? You're not demanding it, you're just politely asking to see if maybe it is within my grasp to add something. And if all request would be like this, I can assure you I'd try my best to add said feature
I hope this is useful to you or I at least hope that some people read it.
If not, I can just tell you to return to stock ROM, probably better than any ROM I put out anyway
Enjoy

Enable Secure Folder on NcX S8+
Hi guys, just here with a quick update.
For those unaware, there was a pretty cool breakthrough when it came to finally enabling Secure Folder on rooted software (Pie) in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/development/secure-folder-patch-custom-rom-t3949878
(Would appreciate it if you visit and give thanks)
Now since then, I really wanted to fix it on Oreo but the methods were vastly different.
Thankfully, @khongloi113 helped me step by step to try and fix it for Oreo.
And that's exactly what he did, he fixed it for Oreo too
So, for those who want to enable Secure Folder on this ROM, flash the zip attached
For now, the fix is only available for this Oreo ROM, since there are some methods that khongloi113 changed that I have not been able to pin point.
Oh and, if it doesn't work for you, all you have to do is go to the Galaxy Store and update Secure Folder through there. Then it should work fine.
Enjoy!
Does this ROM work on J6+?
I tried here and it gets an error message saying that it cannot validate device tree table...

All you have to do is flash the zip like if you were flashing a ROM, without wiping anything.
That's all you need to do

[DISCUSSION] LineageOS 17.1 [HLTE/CHN/KOR/TMO][OFFICIAL]

Can we continue to discuss topics about the new - big thx to devs, btw! - official 17.1 version in this thread, pls?
(I know the differences to the unofficial version(s) might be minimal - or even null? - however I think it's always of value to be as clear, sharp and crisp avoiding ambiguities, esp. for folks who are not too familiar with the different contexts)
BTW: just for the record my (dirty) upgrade path from lineage-16.0-20201003-nightly-hlte-signed.zip version to lineage-17.1-20201010-nightly-hlte-signed.zip was as follows:
DLed / copied off my NAS the files of lineage-17.1-20201010-nightly-hlte-signed.zip, open_gapps-arm-10.0-nano-20201010.zip and Magisk v20.4 to external SD)
Let the system DL and install recent pending updates
Rebooted into Recovery (twrp-3.4.0-1-hlte)
Created a nandroid backup of Boot, System, Data and EFS partition to internal SD (and copied those to the external SD, plus a further copy to my NAS)
Wiped Dalvik / ART Cache, System and Cache partition
Installed LOS and GApps
(Dirty) Rebooted into System letting the system run a couple of minutes, checking for updates etc.
Rebooted into Recovery
Installed Magisk
Wiped Dalvik / ART Cache
Rebooted into System
(Enabled systemless host file in Magisk to support Adaway Adblocker app)

Quick questions:
1. Does that AdAway work well?
2. Does automatic dark mode work for you? I have to turn it on manually. Maybe due to turned off GPS so it can't get my location and set sunrise and sunset times?

1 : yes
2 : yes..update maybe your modem
re 1: yes2 (using it quite some time on various devices and it seems to do what I expect it should do, though some apps seem to bypass the 'normal' DNS resolution. OT: And I'm still haven't made up my mind yet if DoH or DoT are good or bad ...)

Are you sure NFC works? I mean paying in shops? I updated modem and now it's N9005XXUGPQB1. And paying still doesn't work. I've just tried.

Sorry. It's dark theme (I don't have English set as default language). [emoji846]
installation error

Can somebody please confirm that paying through NFC works? If so - what's your modem and baseband?
Also I've installed GAPPS PICO maybe that's the case? Although on LOS 16 I also had Pico and it worked, but maybe I'm missing some app like Google search or something?
Been using Lineage OS 16 ever since it was officially released for HLTE. I gotta say, the development of that release has came a long way and by the time of writing this, I'd say it's the most stable and clean custom rom for the Note 3 out there.
I did try the new release the second I received a notification for an update. How did it go? Well let's just say I'm glad I created a full system backup before wiping LOS 16. This new release is still very buggy, unpolished and missing a lot of features. Nothing that will render your phone unusable, but compared to 16, it doesn't stand a chance, which is understandable.
I do appreciate all of the time that the devs are still willing to put into the platform. However I'd recommend users that are looking for a rock stable experience to stick with Lineage OS 16 for the time. You're not missing out on a lot.

I think your statement will get more weight, when it will be supported with some facts:
It'd be helpful if you would underpin your statement with some of your findings about e.g. which bugs you found and which features you are missing!? thx

I have to agree with you, because except my 2 issues (with NFC payments and night mode that doesn't switch automatically) I actually don't have any other problems.
Ver. 17 seems faster and snappier than 16.
Also on 16 sometimes sharing from ie. Firefox to WhatsApp caused the later one not loading (just black screen).
So for me only that NFC seems to be a real issue. Other than that I'd advice anyone trying 17.
made a clean flash with nanodroid and last lolz..the rom is mostly usable ..
got sometimes, not often some little freezes and stock music stop..otherwise it's reliable
both options, stay on 16.0 for stability or move to 17.1 are possible...

for me the only difference is the size of the home screen changed (changed trebuchet to a larger grid before), otherwise i would not even have noticed it is not 16 anymore, rock stable even after a dirty flash

Hello. I have the latest version of LineageOS 16 installed and TWRP (3.3.1.0). I ask you if, after transferring the ROM file to the phone, it is possible to use TWRP to upgrade to 17.1 (by installing the zip file) or if I have to use ADB shell (as it says on the LineageOS official site).
Sorry I'm not an expert and some steps are not clear to me
Thank you
PS
Why you wrote "dirty"
(Dirty) Rebooted into System letting the system run a couple of minutes, checking for updates etc.
Hi Apten
i) think your Qs won't need a full quote
ii) drity flashing
iii) sure you can DL the ROM (and TWRP) to your (internal RAM) of your phone and upgrade or clean install from recovery (twrp)

When it says "....keycheck..." you need to press volume up button (I did it several times). Then it will continue with the installation.
When it says "....keycheck..." again, press volume down button. This should result to a successful installation. Good luck

Hi,

How do you revert to the stock camera though ? Simply deactivating module won't work for me.

Since this is a newer version I believe if you put the APK file in the magist module and replace it with the stock one it will work. I don't believe it will revert because it's a system application, although there really isn't any reason to go back to the stock one as they are like four versions behind on the rom. As long as these guys are staying up to date this should be the best camera app.
Installation on the 11T Pro (MIUI 13/ A12) without any problems. Works perfectly and is an enrichment for the original camera.
Anybody else find this modded camera buggy and slow as hell. I ended up grabbing the latest apk of the normal version.

Ran laggy sometimes when shooting, sometimes switching to portrait mode would freeze the camera. I went back to original camera. The github is showing new releases nearly daily now so I suspect performance shall improve and bugs removed.
The advanced features are cool though.
EDIT: Latest releases are rock solid. I'm using this now as my main camera.

Would you rather recommend this one or GCam from here?

I have no experience with camera apks and was wondering which one brings the better software for the 12s Ultra.
Avoid latest version of the module
