So, I flashed CM14.1 on to my Moto G 2013 last night. I previously had Lollipop stock installed, bootloader locked, etc. Before doing so, I took a WhatsApp backup, but I made two crucial mistakes and now I need your help.
I didn't write down what version of WhatsApp was installed (I simply assumed it was the latest version)
I only have a backup of the .db files, and the key file. Not really anything else other than media and irrelevant stuff.
Are those files enough to recover my old number? Is the number stored in one of the databases? I have a backup of the following databases:
axolotl.db
chatsettings.db
msgstore.db
wa.db
Replacing this files in the `/data/data/com.whatsapp` results in WhatsApp just crashing after launching it. I'm assuming that this might be due to versions not being compatible(?). Is what I'm trying to achieve possible with the limited stuff I have? Any help would be appreciated.
PS: I also took a backup of the encrypted databases, but even when I move them to internal storage, WhatsApp doesn't ask me if I want to restore a backup.
With Android Marshmallow, after using a System Optimser app, my Notification and Ringtone Folders have been deleted. So this means i cant add my own notifications or ringtones (it just doesnt seem to work).
Is there any way to Restore these Folders without doing a Factory Reset (didnt want to have to restore everything on my phone after that) and without needing to Root the phone and also without being forced to have to use an app like Zedge forever, for new ringtones i want, instead of the Stock Samsung Folders?
Any help would be very welcome. Thanks
Hi !
Without root you can`t push any files into the system .
I can suggest you to flash the stock firmware in order to get you`re system working again if that application that you used can`t restore it by itself
And also , for more help , please provide the device model you have issues
Good luck !
Hey guys so I factory reset my phone with WhatsApp backup only in Google Drive. Now GDrive backup won't restore and I didn't make a manual backup to my PC.
I have since unlocked my bootloader and root my phone(hence-a few more wipes) all in trying to recover my WhatsApp.
I have tried EaseUS Mobisaver via Windows but it always fails to gain root access even though I'm "granting" all requests in my phone. Triesd Diskdigger app in my phone, gave it root access but it scans for limited types of files and WhatsApp database files are not among them.
So now my question is do I have a chance? Should I keep trying or give this up? I'm ok with paid solutions.
FYI: I never manually encrypted my files, used whatever was default. I've seen some phones don't even boot till you don't give them the password. My RN7 was not like that.
If you had backup your WhatsApp data and chats on google drive , then it should have restored normally ,
Make sure you select the correct google account while restoring the chats ( if you use different account , then it won't sync with your chats).
Overall if this doesn't work , there's no way to recover them.
Hi,
I deleted a large music file and have tried various ways to recover it. I have a G7 Optimo, unrooted. I have the backup function turned on, but don't know if I need to restore the phone to it's original mode to access the backup on Google. Does anyone know if this is what I have to do, or is there an easier way?
Thanks!
If you tried to use data recovery software to help you recover the deleted music file back without backup, you need to root your phone before using it, such as Dr.fone, Coolmuster Lab.Fone for Android, phonerescue, etc. If you are not good at that, maybe you can ask for help from pro shop. Good luck to you.

Wiped data only can get recovered - if they didn't get overwritten in the meantime - if phone's Android is rooted and you know of digital-forensic softwares what completely can restore the files: just successfully having pulled out of phone the bitwise-copies of the files in question may not help you at all.

I use one of those to unroot the phone, but still can't seem to find them. Doesn't Google store all of my music and contacts if I've got the backup function on? I have Google Drive on my phone, but it ony shows 250 songs when I checked it. I had 1000ish loaded, why aren't the rest showing up in Google Drive? Also, what if I do a factory reset? Last two phones I bought had my music and contacts on them after I set them up. I don't have much on my phone, so don't care if I have to do that. Thanks!
If you have the backup function turned on, it will back up your files automatically. Check around to see if there are any music backup files.
I have a 'Redmi Note 9 Pro max' phone. WhatsApp is fully functional, with a chat history of the last 5 years. I got a new Samsung S22 5g phone, and I want to move all my data to that phone. When I checked the WhatsApp chat backup, I saw that the last backup happened on February 7th to my Google Drive. I clicked 'Backup' button to manually take the backup. I got the error message 'Unable to back up messages' after 30 seconds. I tried rebooting the phone several times, changing networks, checking the permissions, etc., but I still got the same message. I verified the backup in my Google Drive, and I saw the backup happened last February 7. My database folder was empty since I cleared the msgstore.db files as part of saving storage space, which I used to do periodically since I know that WhatsApp will create daily local backups in that folder. I noticed that WhatsApp even stopped creating local backups daily, as it is supposed to.
After several attempts to create a new backup, I finally decided to restore the February 7 backup available in my Google Drive to my new phone. I added the Google Drive account to my new phone and installed WhatsApp there. Whatsapp correctly detected the backup in my Google account and began restoring the messages; however, at the end of the restore, it threw an error message saying "unable to restore your chats from this backup," and after that message, Whatsapp displayed a list of other Google accounts to check for other old backups, which I did not have. I skipped the restore and saw that it did not have any chat history. I immediately closed and uninstalled WhatsApp on the new phone, switched back to my old phone, verified the number again, and thankfully, I was able to keep WhatsApp on my old phone without losing any data.
Now all my applications have been migrated to my new phone, except WhatsApp. Ultimately, I see that the existing available backup is corrupted, and I don't have any other local backup files either. I took a copy of the msgstore.db.crypt14 file from the new phone while the restore happened from Google Drive. Keeping in mind that my WhatsApp is fully functional on my old phone, I would like to get help with any of the below solutions to migrate my WhatsApp data.
Fix the 'unable to backup messages' issue for creating a new backup to Google Drive or at least a local backup. As mentioned, WhatsApp stopped creating local offline backups.
Recover any of the recent msgstore.db.crypt14 files that I deleted to create free space.
Fix the corrupted crypt14 file, which I have taken a copy of.
Other than the built-in backup and restore method, is there another way to migrate WhatsApp?
Same problem here!
I tried a lot of things and eventually I was successful to some degree.
Whatsapp restore from local backup : Working method April 2022
Hello everyone, This troubleshooting guide is related to the situation where you have a backed up .crypt14 fle (data base file) for Whatsapp and are unable to restore the local backup for Whatsapp using the .crypt14 file and you have no back up...
forum.xda-developers.com
These steps worked for me to force upload a .crypt14 backup file to Google Drive. I was able to restore the messages. I had to kill Whatsapp though because the restore process got stuck.
But the messages seem to be all back.
Another problem appeared though. I am unable to create new Backups due to an error.
I am now using Fouad Whatsapp Mod because it has its own backup and restore function which works.
My phone is not rooted so I extracted the Whatsapp key and unencrypted database with WhatsApp Key/Database Extractor.
I have installed the Android Emulator Nox Player, activated Root und installed the Foud Mod. I was able to replace the msgstore.db in /data/data/com.whatsapp/databases/ with my unencrypted backup as descirbed here.
Then I was able to backup everything and copy the backup back to my phone and restore it there whith the Fouad Whatsapp Mod
The backup is located unter Documents/FMBackups/com.whasapp.zip
Thanks also to this post which helped me a lot.
I hope you'll be succesful, too!

Hi.
I also have the same problem, and i was hoping you or someone else could help me. Whatsapp got stuck on restoring the backup, so i had to kill it mid restore. The messages are back but now it can't create another backup.
My question is: how do I transfer my messages to Fouad Whatsapp Mod if I can't back them up? Both local and gDrive backups fail. It seems like it doesn't even create the .crypt14 file. Any tips? Thanks in advance
Hi,
I would suggest that you backup your messages with WhatsApp Key/Database Extractor. You can additionally copy your whole Whatsapp folder to your computer to have also a backup of your media.
Here you have a tutorial on how to install Fouad Mod keeping your messages.
Good luck!

Keep showing 'unable to backup messages' issue for creating a new backup to Google Drive or local backup. WhatsApp stopped creating local offline backups, no files in folder databases.
Thanks

Which version is installed?
latest 2.23.7.80
That's also my installed version but I haven't any problems with it. My suggestions:
- try a higher version or beta
You searched for whatsapp - APKMirror
You searched for whatsapp - APKMirror Free and safe Android APK downloads
www.apkmirror.com
- rename the Whatsapp folder in your internal storage (/internal storage/Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/) to force the app to create a new one (maybe there is sth messed up with the path/permissions?)
- in case there is still a valid backup on Drive I would also try an older version (s. apkmirror.com)
- rename the Whatsapp folder in your internal storage (/internal storage/Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/) to force the app to create a new one (maybe there is sth messed up with the path/permissions?)
> above approach would caused me lost all the data?

You should rename it and not delete it. The folder is still there but WhatsApp won't find it. If it works just copy the files from the old to the new created folder.
Tried, same. Any tools can recommend? Pay version also OK.
I have the same problem. did you find a solution? Thank you
ps: without using root
