Greetings
So I've downloaded the Samsung Music app since its not a built in app, using it since my S3 i wouldn't choose another music player but i realized that (Dance) mode is missing from the equalizer, is there a way to get it or anyone knows how to customize to get the Mode? I feel music is better with that mode
The settings which are available rn are : Normal, Pop, Classic, Jazz, Rock, and Custom

I have normalized the volume on all of my mp3 files using the MP3Gain application on my PC. This applies a factor to the file telling the music player how to adjust the volume for each mp3 so that they will all play at the same level. Otherwise, you get the problem that every mp3 starts at a different volume and you have constantly adjust the level.
Most well-designed music players will use the gain settings and make the level adjustment, but the stock music player on the Captivate seems to ignore the settings.
So, my questions are:
1. Does anybody know how to make the stock music player play nice with the gain settings?
2. Otherwise, does anybody know if there are other players which will use the gain settings.
Also, is the Captivate player a skinned version of the standard Android player? If so, does the standard player pay attention to the gain settings? If so, then maybe there's a hidden setting that will make it work on the Captivate. Anybody who's knowledgeable about this, please jump in.
It would be nice if an Android music player supported ReplayGain, yeah; I'm not sure if any do. It certainly would have to be a third-party music player. The only way to make the stock music player respect this would be to actually normalize the files instead of having ReplayGain tags. The downside, of course, if that this irreversibly changes the actual music files, themselves.
Hi guys,
When I bought my Nexus S, the music player (the one that has an icon of a speaker) was very cool. Suddenly, one day it asked me to upgrade to a newer version. The newer version of music player (the one that has a headphone icon) looks more beautiful in the design, but quite crappy in the functionality since I can't really set my preferred EQ for songs, or to change the ringtone (in the old player, I just tap and hold a certain song to load the options where I can set it as a ringtone).
So do you know how can I switch back to the older music player?
Thanks,
Tris.

You should just be able to go to the relevant entry in the Marketplace or the phone settings application list and uninstall the updated version. The stock player will be retained, unless you've rooted your phone and manually deleted it.
Nice answer mate, that solves my problem
Thanks a lot.
I need a new music player, as the stock samsung one dosent have certain things that i want. The features that i need are simple, but thete are a few musts:
1 simple ui. Nothing at all like poweramp. Im looking for a clean and simple interface, similar to the stock samsung player. (Lists instead of grids, etc.)
2. File support. It needs ro be able to play more than just mp3 files, the more the better.
3.playlist support. This is extremely important.
4.Notification area widget. I need the controls in the pull down area.
5.lockscreen music control. Im on 4.1.2, so i dont have lockscreen widgets. Poweramp lockscreen controls are good.
6.artists/albums/all tracks view, not folder view.
I have poweramp installed, it is not good for me.
There is a player called fusion, which meets all the criteria, but its volume is very low, so its no good.
I dont mind paying, so dont limit to free apps.
Thanks in advance!
SMART PLAYER is the best
i use Rocket Player, has lockscreen support and notification support like you need, albums are in a list by album name, supports playlists, supports diffrent music files, and has option to search for new music on both storages so no need to reboot when you add a new ablum
My device:
Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket (rooted)
RomaranoidAndroid (4.4.4)
Carrier:At&t
Try NexMusic, you can get it from the PlayStore. Has been my favourite music player ever since it got released. Locomain has done a fantastic job.
Also you can try Shuttle Music Player.

When playing mp3 music file using the default media player, the music randomly stops playing about a few minutes into the first song. player controls still work (player hasn't frozen), but no sound, nor is there movement from music slide bar indicator. problem is still present when I restart the music app. the only way I manage to get the media player to work again is to restart the phone, then the media function normally. Is there a fix for the default player app, or an alternative player app that can be controlled by the bluetooth accessories (bluetooth smart watch, or headset)? Thanks in advance.
You might consider trying PowerAmp - it's a pretty descent music player app with tons of features. Not sure about bluetooth actually but you go ahead and give it a try - it's a paid app but got trial.
btotaku - Thanks for the advice. I can fess up a "$1.00" for an app. Does this app have full android integration, I mean that can the app functions be controlled externally by bluetooth (volume, rev/cue)?
Not sure about this but hey, download it for free and give it a try for 14 days; if it works and you like it you might consider it.
As you all know the phone comes with Google Play Music, which is fine and all but would like some recommendations in case anyone knows a better player that has better usability, looks and features.
Currently I use two players for specific reasons:
1. Sony Music (the one ported here in XDA by Ben Ling as if simple, good looking and works great with Android Auto as also let's me download better album art.
2. Musicolet which I use only for bluetooth audio as it's the only one I could find that has a propper Media Browsing implementation over bluetooth, with this I'm able to browse the Artist, Albums and Songs from my Mazda infotainment just like having an iPhone.
But in reality I dream of having a Player as good looking as Poweramp with the IDTag editing of the Sony one and the compatibility of Musicolet
Please share what player you use and why, maybe we can discover that player that does it all and looking good at the same time
I use Black Player. It's minimal, black and plays tracks in shuffle/loop better than others that I've tried. Plus the widgets have a minimalist option too.
I used Poweramp before I switched over to Spotify and I really loved the features it offered, you can try the free test version from the Playstore
Dub music player.
Shuttle + music player. It has a good ui and lots of options for artwork and theming etc
Poweramp + Viper4sound + KZ ZSR
Long live torrents MP3!!

Also love the Sony one, would definitely buy it if being sold for any phone and for me it's just lacking the Bluetooth Media Browsing that Musicolet has.
I use Retro Music Player

Pulsar music player, simple, customizable and minimal the best in my opinion
black player here . really love it cant find anything better
I really love Poweramp, but being in Android Pie 9.0 (stable) and with the last Poweramp beta does not work well, when a notification comes the sound really distorts, I thought it was the device, try other players and nothing.
The only one that has convinced me so far is BlackPlayer Ex, really recommended
The highest rated Android music player (for good reason). Been using this for years, use lucky patcher to remove ads. I also use stereo mod for surround sound and Viper4Android for the equalizer even though the one built into Pi music player is just fine.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Project100Pi.themusicplayer
Player pro. Free skins, best ui and ease of use. 10 band EQ instead of the 7 band the others have. Haven't felt the need for V4A with player pro.
BlackPlayer EX is the best play store purchase I've ever made hands down. Yes, better than Titanium Backup.
I use Neutron for local music. Way better than Poweramp IMHO. I haven't tried the black player yet though.
As far as sound quality goes, I think DSP mods are more important than the player itself. I use the Air Sauron, V4A, AML and the ACM DSP mods. V4A in particular makes a huge difference in quality. It does add a bit of latency so I wouldn't use it for production purposes however.
All great options, tried several of them, retro is beautiful too, but the bluetooth media browsing is not working correctly
Found that Player Pro and Musicolet are the only ones working 100% with android auto and bluetooth media browsing :'(
Stellio is the best
Poweramp
I have been using the latest stable builds of PA on my rooted Pie OP6. Never had a problem, and I use it many hours each week when I'm on planes and Pandora won't work.
