Light/Dark device theme not working correctly? - Google Pixel 3 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

When I set the theme to dark, as opposed to automatic--- it is ONLY changing the quick settings tiles and volume control.
I swear that when I did this back when I got the phone, it also changed the google "discover" feed to a dark/transparent, and also all of the settings pages to a dark/transparent.
But I can't get that to happen anymore.
It MIGHT have something to do with me no longer using stock launcher, as I have switched to Nova.
I've seen other posts of people getting stuck on dark theme also.
Why can't google just get this stuff correct in the first place?

MiLocker MIUI Themes not switching

Hello all. I am running the latest Tsugi rom, and I installed MiLocker as well as multiple milocker themes. Something I have noticed: I can use locker themes where the unlock function is a pull down box, but when I switch to another theme that uses a different unlock function it does 1 of 2 things. Some themes wont even switch at all. It will say it was applied succesfully, but the unlock theme is exactly the same as before. With another theme, the background will switch, but the button will not switch to a different kind of button (in this case a 5 way radial button, or something like that). It will remain as a pull down to unlock box, albeit with a slightly different look.
This is incredibly frustrating, as I pretty much cannot switch the themes to anything I like. Someone want to help me out?

[Q] New page on home screen. Where did it come from?

Hello all,
I'm a relatively new OnePlus One owner and yesterday after I rebooted my phone, a new page showed up as part of my home screen pages. What was the first home screen page is now the second one and this new page took it's place.
Since I have no idea what it is, I'm attaching a screen shot for reference in hopes someone might be able to tell me. It's mostly blank with the text that says:
Get some extensions!
Looks like you don't have any installed
extensions. CM Home currently supports
DashClock extensions, so go get some and check
back here!"
Would anyone know where this suddenly came from and more importantly, how can I get rid of it? If I had wanted it there, I would have added it myself. Don't much appreciate a phone that doesn't respect user settings.
Thanks!
Tim
Nobody knows?
There must be some way of getting rid of this thing. It seems to have shown up after I updated to 38R. It's also mentioning something about Dash Clock. But since I don't have any app named Dash Clock installed, I have no way of uninstalling it.
Tired of these apps or themes, etc that just think it's fine to modify a user's settings and add whatever they want to a phone. I take the time to setup my phone for a reason. If I had wanted something changed or added, I'm perfectly capable of determining which apps I wish to have and where I wish to place associated folders, icons, widgets, etc.
Would be very appreciate if anyone could give me some advice how to get rid of that page.
Thank you!
It is part of the trebuchet launcher from cyanogen. You must have gone into the settings and turned on the CM Home search panel. Just go back into the launcher settings and change the search panel option to "off" and it should go away.

Thanks so much for the reply. I have looked already, but see nothing obvious listed in my Settings where I can find anything related to CM Home search panel. I have also searched for any apps that might be labeled as trebuchet, launcher, CM, etc. Would you mind telling me where exactly I can find such a setting as you mentioned?
Thank you again.

It is not in the phone settings it is on the home screen. Long press down on any part of the home wallpaper not covered by an icon or widget and you should see a menu bar pop up at the bottom with 3 icons for setting wallpaper, widgets and something else. There should be an up arrow near the top of the menu bar which when pressed will take you to the launcher settings, that is where you can change the options.

Nova Launcher Prime Icon bug fix

Hi there,
just figured out what was messing up my icons and making them look as if they're broken or sth. ... so basically simply toggling on and off the setting 'Normalize icon size' in the Look & Feel section makes the icons screw up. And that's not only the icons on your desktop but also the icons in the app drawer. So just never toggle that option... EVER .. just let it be. And you'll be all good. I figured making regular back-ups is a great thing so .. take advantage of that.
If its too late already and u've already screwed things up, then reinstall Nova launcher ... that fixed the problem for me.
This is the problem
Well ... was too good to be true. Now I just got the same error, this time NOT caused by the above-mentioned reason, though. What a bummer. Reinstalling didn't fix anything this time
The fix however might be hiding in enabling 'Aggressive desktop' under advanced settings.
It's still there I have Nova Launcher Prime v.4.2.0 and the problem is that when I enlarge the icon size of icons on desktop and in app drawer and then simply toggle 'Normalize icon size' in 'look and feel' OFF and then back ON the icons mess up. I toggle it on purpose just to see if the error is still there, cos I know this is 1 way off tracking the error, but sadly other things cause the error too. I haven't yet found out what they are though. The problem is that I have this problem with icons, not only with shortcuts on desktop but also with icons in the app drawer. See this image for the issue. Once I get it it's a lot of work to fix it. Sorta reinstalling and starting from scratch, cos backups don't really help ... no idea why even if they were made at an earlier point in time before the wrong adjustment of settings was made, i.e. before increasing icon size too much and toggling 'Normalize icon size'. Using 'aggressive desktop' does not help solve the problem. That's why for now i've switched to Apex.
So yeah ... don't go over 105% for size of desktop icons ... that's the culprit. If you go over that and toggle the 'Normalize ...' option then you'll end up with the problem.

How to go back to deault screen (4.1)

I mean default theme...
So I am having a bit of a problem. I've been messing around with themes, including some I've made myself. I've noticed that if a theme doesn't change something, switching to that theme leaves you with what your previous theme set that setting to. This can lead to some ugly combinations. Unfortunately, this includes the built in themes in the phone, and I've messed up some things and am trying to start fresh. Is there any way to do so, other than reseting my phone completely? The biggest issue is that I end up with an ugly black bar in certain places (I tried unsuccessfully to make the background of the entire settings app black). Aside from this, it also appears in the contacts app, which covers the save/discard changes buttons. When I first open settings, the correct headers actually flashes briefly, but then I get this:http://i.imgur.com/4V4Gm1p.png
you should try to launch default launcher which is generally done by pressing Home button...

Stuck on Dark Theme

All of a sudden my phone decided to enable the dark theme yesterday and I can't get it to go back to the light theme. I did not change my wallpaper - still on the default actually.
I've tried forcing it to go light under Settings > Display > Theme > Light but to no avail.
Anyone else running into this? How do I resolve without being forced into resetting the entire phone?

Try changing wall papers and reboot a few times.
Just tried that, but no luck.
The strange thing is that it's only the quick settings panel and volume/power panel. Folders are showing up correctly.

I also have the same issue. I had mine set to auto and it randomly switched over to dark.
I've been on dark theme since I got my Pixel 3 but this morning I switched it to automatic and my app drawer, and Google discover feed turned white based on my wallpaper but the volume UI as well as quick tiles stayed black. I switched for forced white, rebooted several times and it's still not completely white as it's supposed to be. Hope someone comes up with a solution.

I really don't know if this will help, but, have you tried removing or adding some of the QS icons and then rebooting. What the heck, worth a try I reckon.

That was a good suggestion, I also thought of that and unfortunately it didn't work. When you pull down QS and click the edit button there is even a reset option in the top right which I tried as well. Changed wallpapers several times, rebooted the phone both regularly as well as into safe mode. Still stays in dark theme. It has to be something server side Google accidentally did similar to recently when they accidentally switched all Pixel phones to battery saver mode over night. Who knows, hoping it gets fixed soon.

Bummer man. Hopefully the googleites will get it resolved for you all. If your bootloader unlocked, have you tried fastbooting the factory image. Or, factory resetting?
I'm glad I'm not alone. I ended up resetting the phone. Hopefully a fix is in the works cause I ain't resetting again.

Just had this issue this morning.
I figured it out that, if you go into Android Messages app, and disable Dark theme in that app, then the System UI changes back to the Light theme, (if that is what is selected, or should be using based on wallpaper)
I have already reported this to Google, and they had an engineer work with me to get a Bug Report sent to them.
OMG you're right. I just tried it. Looks like the Messenger update pushed last night to my phone doesn't address the issue yet.
Have a solution to this issue (one that will allow me to keep Messages app in dark theme). The problem is Settings > System > Developer Settings > Night Mode is stepping on Settings > Display > Advanced > Device Theme. The Night Mode setting in developer settings I had it set to "Always" and it was keeping the notification shade from turning white with the rest of the launcher stuff. I turned that to "Always off" and now in the display settings if I set the device theme to light, the notification shade turns white, if I set it to dark, the notification shade turns dark as it should.
Another workaround:
Instead of turning off dark theme in Messages, just toggling the Battery saver on off will do the trick
Had the same issue - this fixed it!
Stuck on Light Theme , Dark don't work
in Advance Display Setting, Dark Mode don't work ! It's Selected But, Setting Menu Still Light.
I also see this, and can change the system theme from the messages theme. Strange.
Another weird quirk is the lock screen font color is black. This seemed to have happened after updating the January security patch. Anything else have this issue?
