You can't downgrade.
You don't need neither.

cyanogenmod on s3

hey guys, so im sure many have tried to put cyanogenmod on a VZW Samsung Galaxy s III with 4.4.2 OTA on it. but couldnt. im really looking to put CM11 on it. im very much so new to rooting, and flashing roms, but i already rooted my device, and flashed the stock firmware back, due to not having a CWM back up and getting "system software not authorized by verizon" warning.
so my question.
can i downgrade my firmware from 4.4 to earlier to have an unlocked bootloader without bricking it? do i need to go to 4.3 and then 4.1.2?
because before 4.3 it had an unlocked bootloader.
I really want CM because i cant stand touchwiz anymore. thanks guys . help a newb out
oh and. should i use towel root? or another rooting method
Your now on the locked bootloader and you cannot downgrade to another firmware. You can root with towelroot but that's truly about all you can do
From my CM11 S3

[Q] Will a brand new Z3 be still rootable ?

Hi,
im looking at buying a Z3 at the weekend but the main thing is will it be still rootable? Im not sure what firmware it will come with
Are all versions still able to achieve root?
If so could someone link me to the best root method, much appreciated
I've bought a Z3 3 weeks ago and it rooted just fine. You do need to flash an older firmware

5.0.2 isn't rootable, at least not directly.
As long as we have root method for at least one fw available for device we can root all new firmwares.
So...it's not a problem to root Z3, no matter which fw was on it.
All you need is to downgrade to 4.4.4 (version that could be rooted), root it, install recovery and then upgrade by flashing prerooted ROM.
Z3 will retain root possibility as long as its alive...
Of course, all of that applies for locked bootloader.
If you want to unlock bootloader, you could root device by flashing kernel via fastboot...
Z3 powered by Tapatalk
thanks for the help, phone is coming tomorrow so it will be the first thing i do.
Coming from a nexus 5 so should be quite an improvement, especially battery life.
Another Question
is app2sd built into the firmware? or do you need a third party app which requires root?
things i need installed on SD card:
all games / apps including titanium backup PRO
can it be done?
If you get a new T-mobile Z3, you will not be able to root or unlock the bootloader.

Help rooting GS6(SM-920i)

I recently purchased a galaxy S6 (SM-920i) running Android 5.1.1 in the hope of rooting it and flashing it with a custom rom. I'm a novice at this, and have not been able to find a decent tutorial on this subject. I'm not concerned with tripping the knox counter by the way. Any help in this matter will be much appreciated. Thanks.

I did the following on mine (920F):
Get a kernel with root (Unikernel) and flash it via ODIN (since I did not wanted to flash a rom right away and that also comes with auto root).
Get the TWRP ODIN flashable .tar from http://twrp.me
Profit.

Rooted ROMs for g955u - Do I have the right answer? Question for the community

OK, I'm not a complete newb, but I haven't rooted a phone in a number of years. I am looking to do so for a g955u with a v5 bootloader.
So, I've been doing quite a bit of reading, and I want to make sure I have this correct. Because the 955u has a locked bootloader, we cannot have a custom ROM, but only a stock ROM (can it be modified?).
It appears that we can have a Rooted g955u running nougat by following these two threads:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/development/root-t3909782
and then:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...nt/root-using-odin-modified-firmware-t3693790
This appears to be the only solution. Am I wrong, is there another? Or worse, is this not even the solution?
TIA for bring this old newb along.
it's the best way

If you got safe strap you can flash a stock system img and then su. You can tweak it how you want. Its what I did on my s8. And the rooms available are awesome but mine suites me.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/950u-stock-rom-blq1-optional-root-t3812012
Same would apply for s8+. You just have to extract your wanted 7.0 img
