Rooted Honor Note 10 : install GSI ROM ? - Honor Note 10 Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
Well, title says it almos all...
After reading several posts here, I decided to go for a code to unlock my bootloader and I was successful at that.
I also install TWRP as a custom recovery and I was successful at that too.
I tried then to root the phone, and I could do it.
So I was wondering : as Huawei does not release any source code, would it be possible to install a GSI ROM on that device to get rid of EMUI ?
Anyone tried that ?
Would love to hear an answer, especially if it is "Yes, I did it and it works like a charm"
Regards.

First you need someone with the ability to create said rom.

Hi,
I am taking about a GSI ROM.
GSI stand for "Generic System Image".
It means that it is a ROM that is, in theory, installable on EVERY device that supports Treble project.
And, according to Google policies, for a device released with Oreo as a main system, it is MANDATORY to support Treble...
But of course, manufacturers always do it their way... and can't care less about Google's guidelines.
So the question is : is Honor Note 10 Treble compatible ?
Regards.

Hi,
Well, I am investigating this a little further...
I just checked if the device is (in theory) Treble enabled...
And guess what ?
"adb shell getprop ro.treble.enabled
true"
So, this is encouraging...
I will try to install a GSI ROM on this device. I assume that I will still be able to reflash the other original ROM in case this goes wrong.
At least I hope to be able to do so !!!
Regards.

I managed to install the AOSP project treble but with something that did not work, for example the fingerprint or the 4G network was poor

I do not recommend installing the GSI for the time being
I had also installed a Resurrection Remix without success, blocking the unlock code of the phone and did not make me go on

Inquiry about OPPO R7plusf update!

Hi guys,
I hope all of you are fine, now after more than one year of usage of OPPO R7Plusf which was really amazing, it seems like OPPO has no plans to upgrade our phones, when I purchased my device a ColorOS version 2.0 was installed already and recently, it was upgraded to ColorOS version 2.1.0i (based on 5.1.1 Android Lollipop). Nowadays, all of us heard about the Nougat upgrade when we still dreaming with Marshmallow!!
So please, any suggestions for a custom ROM (tested) to upgrade my OPPO phone to Nougat version with no usual known errors or bugs. I will be grateful.
Notice: I contacted both customer support (the local one and the international) and I received the usual formal disappointed answer: "we will inform you when the update is available", which I think it will not be.
So thanks
Anybody here!?
Depends what you like
I currently use Resurrection remix on mine however there are some issues with apps force closing is my main one. Lineage OS also had issues for me with bluetooth causing the phone the reboot over and over. CM 13 was the best but I can't find any download links for it any more (rip CM) I think they both have updates coming outside but I recommend trying some out and then making a decision. Also if your phone is on one of the latest oppo updates (one of the 2016 updates) you'll have to downgrade to a 2015 software as they locked the bootloader so you won't be able to root! It's easy to do just find an old firmware from the internet (I would post links but I can't, also has to be a 2015 one) turn off the phone and turn it back on whilst holding down the volume down button and then go install and install the old firmware and then follow any guides on the internet for installing custom ROMs
Hope this helped

Lol, yeah. There is not much traffic here, but the R7Plusf is still awesome and up to date. Mainly due to good people at LineageOS keeping the device fresh.
I don't have serious issues with AICP on Nougat. No reboots. It is build "on top of" LineageOS, but have more features plus a working theming system. Latest build uploaded today.
Try RR, AICP and LineageOS and see what you like. Wait with Lineage untill the next release (current is Feb 14), if you want to avoid reboots.

So, you recommend the CM13 in case it's available?
And what's the cons and pros?

Sure I will try one of your recommendations, but all I was afraid of was the disappointed bugs after updat such as battery drain, camera errors, wifi issues ... etc. Of course my ColorOS became boring to me, but still stable with no errors
Any pros or cons for those above I will be great full

Battery drain on MM has improved compared to Lollipop and N has improved over MM. With 4 email accounts running (on Aqua Mail) and Location on "High accuracy", Viber messenger and other stuff running, I had not much drain on AICP 11 (MM). Drain during night with Location on "Device" was 0.5% per hour. On MM and especially N, you have many ways in settings you can fine tune battery drain. Many apps are automatically shut down when not in use. You can decide which to limit and which to keep running when phone is off. Without extra apps (as ColorOS has), you can limit what apps are allowed to do and see. All built into the system.
A final word on drain: With Googles and others services running all the time, tracking everything you do, some drain is expected. Luckily this can be turned off by you
The number one reason to upgrade in these hacker friendly times: N is updated with much improved security. Updated every month with the latest security patches.
For me, AICP 11 is error free. The latest MM builds are complete in features and practically error free. Features are still being merged one at the time on N, but is useable as is now with only some minor issues.
I have not tried RR. My guess is that it has more features than AICP, but also more issues.
Lineage is the mother of all, I expect it to be stable with a good set of features.
All the N builds have more or less issues with speaker-phone. It may or may not bother you (or the person in the other end). MM was not affected as much as N, for some unknown reason.
I use Resurrection Rom and very happy with this rom!

Rana, first I'm sure you have been a good phone user and your Oppo R7 plus is upto date, unfortunately this is a problem. So first thing you need to do (Assuming you have unbricked your phone) is find a older version of the genuine R7+ firmware. Preferably some time between 2015- mid2016. The reason for this is OPPO locked the bootloader on later versions, these earlier versions are what the autoroot tool was designed to work on. Once you have this firmware, flash through recovery (provided you still have genuine OPPO recovery), if not you also need to flash this. Once you have the older firmware on your phone you should be able to proceed as usual steps to install lineage on your phone using typical walkthroughs.
what to do next?

As per my study the first thing I need to do it unlock bootloader, then do TWRP, then install any custom rom. (Please correct me if m wrong). Now please tell me how can i unlock my bootloader when I dont have access to fastboot by pressing power and Volume + key. Is there some other way. I have also tried the adb version 1.4.3 to get to the fastboot mode but it restarts my mobile to lock screen.

Download this rom https://www.dropbox.com/s/xmh77xyinz2iero/R7plusfEX_11_OTA_012_all_201512251816.zip?dl=0. Place it in your internal drive and flash it. It will install the ColorOS with an unlockable bootloader.
Even I'm facing the same issue. There are no such methods available on internet. I have ended bricking phone several times. Because since the last update oppo had limited tho access to bootloader. And the phone OPPO r7 plus f is quite old now so there's no people dealing with the issue. The only methods remain is to downgrade the firmware and repay the process again. Better look for some firmware version around mid 2015-2016early. I read somewhere that has access to bootloader. I haven't tried it personally but I hope the methods will work. Please let me know whatever the result is..

How to root Honor 6X BLN-L21?

Guys i want to root my device - Honor 6X BLN-L21. how can i do this?
after rooting my device ill be able to update my software ? i have the latest android 7 official update from huawei installed. i havent unlock the bootloader or anything like that.
thank you and soory for my english.
Follow this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/how-to/root-huawei-honor-6x-install-twrp-t3671822
And for obtain your bootloader unlock code, note that the listed procedure is impossible to follow at the moment, because the necessary pages to ask for the code are unavailable on Huawei sites. But you should be able to have a work around thanks to the module available here https://forum.xda-developers.com/ho...cial-request-bootloader-unlock-codes-t3785100
I am resurrecting this thread as I have the **same** issue a year after.
I have recently aquired a BLN-L21 Honor 6x europe, with EMUI 5.0.3
This is the exact ROM version: BLN-L21C432B382
It has been rooted using dc-unlocker, but now I have some problems with rooting (that was my entire objective since start)
Compatible TWRP are scarce, I can only make it work with OpenKirin TWRP 3.1.1.0, linked in the guide above, or EliteTWRP-3.2.1.0, but this one cannot read any internal partitions, so I guess it's not very useful.
As soon as I flash Magisk-19.3.zip the device boots and asks me for a decryption password, that I clearly don't have.
So Flashing Magisk this way makes the terminal useless.
Can anyone suggest me a couple of TWRP + ROM that supports root quite well on this device?
EDIT: ouch, I defeated myself. I just tried to use SuperSU-v.2.82-201705271822 and it works like a charm on stock rom.
I wonder why Magisk makes a mess of the partition

Huawei wants to stop users from rooting?

A tweet from John Wu a person who created Magisk:
"I am informed that a new Huawei OTA will make installing Magisk unable to boot at all. At this point I might just simply ignore this brand even exists."
First they stopped providing us codes for unlocking bootloader and now we won't be able to root our phones?
Is root necessary for flashing custom ROMs on our device? As I remember I only needed to unlock bootloader to do that on a Samsung phone.

Already in AL varient.Won't boot after magisk installation. As for now we can flash custom roms but I read that Honor is going to remove FRP lock switch, which will make you unable to flash at all.To be honest this brand is nothing but rubbish in terms of Android tweaking etc.

No, you don't need to have root to flash custom. But you have to have access to PC to flash it through fastboot
And i prommised to myself after that, that this was my lasy Huawei device. I paid for device that can be unlocked and rooted and now thay are taking this back from me. I wonder is it legal? Maybe we could give phones back now?

IF huawei wouldn't lock anything else - yes. But on Huawei you flash ROM directly through fastboot (since all custom roms are treble ones), not in recovery.
However i wouldn't wait, because maybe next OTA will lock something else. and you will be forced to use EMUI.

Thanks for help.
For now, I'm up to B372, and still able to do whatever I want, fyi.
Keep on updating... and supporting the Apple wannabees of the Android world. They learned and stole the ideas they wanted from the community and now will completely lock out the devices, bootloaders, root methods, anti-rollback measures, etc.
Oh, and as for that "spying" part? Just search for "Huawei D.U.B.A.I.". Every single aspect, action, usage and telemetry of your device is logged and sent to Huawei's Big Data Analytics servers, and it's embedded on kernel and can't be disabled. Most i could do on my kernel was disabling it on GPU framework, but the rest remains. If i turn it off on kernel or eliminate it, the mobile comms framework is killed and sim card doesn't even get activated, turning your device into a small tablet at most... so you either accept it or get yourself another phone.
Since using Treble Roms gets rid of the "system" part of EMUI, like their store, services, etc, it's possible that the Analytics part is somewhat suppressed but i can't be sure of that.
My advice is, stop updating EMUI and go Treble. Or just sell your device and get another. Or just resign to the new Huawei's reality and forget this community.

To many threads, what are the steps to change the original OS ?

Hello all,
I have read so many threads, and finally I'm still not sure to have the right method.
My current config has no more memory to update apps so I need to do something ! Here are the details :
Huawei P8 Lite 2017 (PRA-LX1)
build : 8.0.0.402 (C432patch01)
EMUI : 8.0.0
Android : 8.0.0
After reading several threads, here are my questions :
1. I have to use DC Unlocker --> is it always mandatory ?
2. Which TWRP do I have to use ? (link please, I'm completely lost, an still doesn't know which one to download ! )
3. LineageOS 15.1 seems to be the best choice (battery stamina), does it work perfectly ? (GPS, camera...)
4. What about Treble Project ? I still doesn't understand it is a better idea, how to install it, which ROM to use...
Thanks for all of your replies !
Hello,
DC-Unlocker is mandatory if your bootloader is locked. Recently, TWRP went official on P8 Lite 2017 devices. You can grab it from the official TWRP website (can't post links as I am a new user, search for 'prague' in the device list). I am using LineageOS 15.1 on my device and it's working flawlessly.
I use chimera to unlock bootloader.
But every custom to a have to flash isn't work. Boot loop or other issuses, like "device is uncertificated" so any google apps don't work.
Do i need to decrypt memory? To flash corectly custom rom.
Finally i have only root, and clean all brand apps.

1. Download DC Unlocker from GPlay, buy credits (it will send you username and password to your email)
2. Download DC Unlocker to your pc, in phone allow ADB debuging and HDB
3. Type into call app '*#*#2846579#*#*', tap on 'Background settings', next on 'USB Ports Settings' and select 'Manufacture mode'.
4. Plug your phone to PC and click on 'Detect device' and allow all stuff that will pop up on your phone.
5. Click on 'Server' tab (we are still on PC) and enter username and password you've got from app and 'Check login'.
6. Click on 'Unlocking' tab and choose 'Unlock bootloader code'. And your code should popup in text log.
7. Let's move to your phone, go to settings -> developer settings -> Enable OEM unlocking, enter your password.
8. Power off your phone and when it vibrate push Vol - and Power button at same time.
8. Plug it back to your PC and start Command prompt, enter 'fasboot oem unlock 00112233445566778899' (use your code).
9. Now just accept unlocking and formating all your data on the phone.
10. Download TWRP and let's flash it using command 'fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrp.img' (if your command prompt is in for example C:\Users\Pepege just cd to your Downloads directory where is downloaded .img file)
11. If it's succesfull just type 'fastboot reboot' and keep holding volume up, if eRecovery pops up click on reboot and this time hold volume up and down (idk why but sometimes works this and sometimes this combo)
12. If you are in TWRP just format DATA, CACHE and Dalvik Cache partition, make backup (if you wanna) and now flash whatever you wanna. LOS, AOSP, it's on you.
Also if you wanna LOCK (not relock) your device, download HuRuUpdater, download oldest version of Android for your model and region (C432 in this case) and flash it, after you reboot from recovery go to bootloader (fastboot mode) and type on your pc 'fastboot oem relock 00112233445566778899' then 'fastboot reboot' now do first setup, go to developer options, disable 'Enable OEM unlock', format data again (to be safe) and you are ready to go, after updating to oreo relock status should change to locked.
EDIT: Adding random Youtube video just in case https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pclEmwt5C84
EDIT2: Project treble is simply stuff splitting system from vendor, it's on every device runing on oreo or better, more here https://www.xda-developers.com/goog...ze-android-so-oems-can-update-devices-faster/
Also for me best ROM are AOSP 10 and LOS 17.1
No custom rom wanted to boot. The method on this page will not work. All that's left for me is to decrypt the phone's memory. but then knowing that the weekend was over and I needed a phone call on Monday, I just let go.
@DunoCZ
What a great post, thank you so much !!!
Some people have reported more battery consumption on Lineage 16 and 17, compared to 15. Did you test all of these ROM ? Are there people here who have some feedback ?
@flgmnft
If I unterstand well, I need to extract fstab file from the ROM archive in order to remove the encryption : can you confirm or explain me what to do ?
@ilakhnon
It seems you don't have the encryption problem, what is your opinion about it ? did you edit the ROM fstab file ? other ?

Some people have reported more battery consumption on Lineage 16 and 17, compared to 15. Did you test all of these ROM ? Are there people here who have some feedback ?
@flgmnft
If I unterstand well, I need to extract fstab file from the ROM archive in order to remove the encryption : can you confirm or explain me what to do ?
@ilakhnon
It seems you don't have the encryption problem, what is your opinion about it ? did you edit the ROM fstab file ? other ?

hummmmm.... bad news : my phone is not detected by DC Unlocker !
I should have tried before buying the license, but it doesn't matter.
But don't you find it strange ?
oh... I didn't read it correctly, the P8 Lite 2017 is not supported, only the P8 Lite (that was my mistake).
But I wonder if I really need it, because I bought it "sim unlocked", what do you think about it ?
EDIT : in other words, how can I know if I can erase the original bootloader ? (adb method)

Then try using hisuite to downgrade to nougat, but after unlocking upgrade to oreo to have treble enabled.
I'm waiting for an answer from DC unlocker's developper, and I will test this solution if I don't have another choice.
(I don't know if it is easy to downgrade with HiSuite, I've never used it, I will see that later).
Thank you for your help.

Hello @DunoCZ,
I was thinking about this post... I won't need to unlock the bootloader if I downgade to Nougat ?
Is there a topic talking about it ?
EDIT : Sorry, I didn't read correctly your post. Unlocking will probably be mandatory, so it doesn't change anything for me.

There's no problem unlocking 2017 with DC Unlocker which I did two days ago.
Install HiSuite and run it once to be sure you got proper drivers and make sure you put USB into manufacture mode.

I had the same issue, and contacted dc_unlocker's developer. Basically, the software can read the bootloader unlock password if it just discoverer the phone's port, even if does not seem to recognize the phone. I had to go ahead an got the code, for 4 credits/€
I'm also interested in knowing what is the best overall ROM these days in terms of compatibility and battery consumption!
Hello all,
Sorry for my silence, I had to go back to work, and after a few days I was seriously ill. I begin to recover some energy, it's not great, but enough to come back here... and because my phone, stiill with the original system, becomes really too slooooooooooooow !
@buteo : Do you confirm me I can go further with DC-unlocker software, in order to unlock the bootloader without any risk ?
@All :
As @Natural_High asked, which ROM is currently the best choice ?
Thanks for your help !

You can use DC-unlocker, it's safe. I used it myself a couple of months ago too.
Regarding the ROM, I haven't tried any Android 10 or 9 ROMs. From what I've seen, people say it's still a bit too buggy, so I went for LineageOS 15.1 and it worked fine. I did some tests, since I don't use it as my daily driver, but eveything seemed to work fine! anyway, feel free to try some of the newer ROMs and let us know your opinion
Thank you very much for your answer !
Lineage 15.1 was my preferred choice, I think I will use it.
I hope I won't have any issues, since I really need my phone...
Let's go for backup...

Blu Vivo XL4 Rooting and Custom Rom Questions

I want to root this phone, mainly to turn off dm-verity because it keeps popping up even after a factory reset and this may be my only good option, but what custom rom should I use for this? I tried looking around and couldn't find any recommended ones. Blu Vivo XL4 android version 8.1.0 and the roms I looked at (Corvus OS, AOSPExtended) did not list my device for the downloads at all. Any suggestions or help for rooting this thing? First proper rootable phone I have gotten and I'm not sure the best process for this.

Vivo doesn't allow bootloader to be unlocked
That's nonsense, I can enable OEM unlocking in the developer settings, ain't that what's required?

It's not Vivo company! That's a BLU company.

You need a special steps for work. Not a exclusive file to your phone because GSI (actual custom rom for any device with Android 8.1 and next android version) need some files to fix booting that in your device. But the happy notice is about actual GSI files not need very files for fix or maybe nothing.
Try install AOSP from phhusson Android 9 and Android 10 repository to know. Other great GSI is crDroid by eremitein or other GSI files by him. Need testing.

I'm on.. what's it called, Oreo? Android 8. Not sure if that's going to cause any trouble for roms.

Yes! Android 8 from very OEMs/companies not have Treble/GSI compatibility.
Only Android 8.1 has that.
Update: Install this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tk.hack5.treblecheck&hl=en-US in the phone and know what architecture your phone/firmware has. That will show you which type of GSI file you can test.
Listing what that app says..
Required Image: Needs an image file named system-arm64-aonly.img.xz
Treble and VNDK: Supports legacy version of Treble, using VNDK version 27.0
System as Root: Does not support, use an a-only OS.
ARM-64 archetecture.
Seamless Upgrades not supported.
Does not use Dynamic Partitions.
Unless I missed anything, is this what was needed? Also I am on 8.1.0 for android version, I didn't know if that was just Oreo or if 8.1 had it's own name.

In the first update Android 7.1 [Nougat] to 8.0 and after upgrade to 8.1 [Oreo]. Normal.
All informations good to know what GSI you should test.
Now you can install with fastboot or Custom Recovery [TWRP]. So if has is better and fast.
If not so can using fastboot commands.
Obviusly need bootloader unlocked!
You can read and find more threads but this is good: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-blu-vivo-xl4-vivo-xi-vivo-xi.3877294/
The only part I should warn you about is the loss of IMEI. So soon as you can do backup from your phone the files NVRAM; NDATA; NVCFG with SPFT or other way like fastboot you won't have wasted time and hassles.

I'll give it a shot. In terms of performing a backup, I would assume that' typical "copy all files on phone to desktop folder just in case"
I should've mentioned, I don't have an SD card in my device, just a SIM card. I don't think I can use TWRP, which is going to complicate matters.
Hello I have a Blu Vivo XL4 android 8.1.0 Oreo, I'm trying to install a custom rom, I looked everywhere not a single rom is made for Blu phones.
bootloader unlocked
according to treble info:
System-arm64-aonly.img.xz
Your device supports the legacy version of project treble using VNDK version 27.0
Use an A-ONLY operating system
ARM64
Seamless upgrades are not supported
NO dynamic partitions
HELP
thanks
