So you have switched to _b and now you have a brick detected by PC only in hs-usb qdloader 9008 mode and blankflash gives you errors instead of fastboot.
Here is what you need to do to get into bootloader, switch back to _a and reflash stock rom.
1. Download loader.img kindly provided by @Willy33 - loader.img
This file was can be generated using adb and working phone like this:
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/loader.img bs=1024 count=168960
exit
adb pull /sdcard/loader.img
count=168960 can be larger but this one worked and we don't need 64GB for what we are doing here. it should give you ~185MB loader.img file.
2. Flash loader.img to micro SD card using this command:
sudo dd if=loader.img of=/dev/sdc bs=1024
It doesn't have to be /dev/sdc in your case. it can be sdb, sdd, sde,...
Class 4 SD didn't work for me, this procedure worked after i tried Sandisk Ultra 64GB Class 10, A1, MicroSDXC, U1.... card. Just use class 10 SD card. @Willy33 tried 64GB SD card too and it worked for him.
3. Insert SD card in your phone.
4. Hold Volume down and Power button until bootloader appears
The thing you see now is booted from SD card. Theoretically if you make 64GB loader.img you should be able to boot the whole system from SD card. Can be useful if your emmc dies and yous have fast enough SD card or you want to use i don't know 512GB sd card as internal card.
Don't try to flash anything yet or fastboot --set-active=a, it won't work.
If you run fastboot getvar all you should see if _a or _b is active.
5. Download gpt.bin
I'm not sure this is all the same for all models, use the one from stock ROM for your model if you can to be sure you don't modify partition table or something.
6. Flash gpt.bin:
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
This will set _a as active back again.
7. Pull the SD card out of your phone.
8. Hold Volume down and Power button until your phone reboots and bootloader show up.
If it does you're done. fastboot getvar all should give you _a as active and you can reflash stock ROM if you want to.
This procedure should work for other moto models. Maybe they can all boot from SD.
Good luck and big thanks to all the people who helped me like @Willy33, @erfanoabdi and @vache.
Thank you. This saved me when I had no idea what to do. I thought I had hard bricked this thing.
Hi , in x t1929-5 don't work , help me ?
FYI, there is a working blankflash. You can try using https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/beckham/blankflash/. It worked for me, and saved my phone
I'm a little layman about this blank flash file. I have a Moto Z3 Play that is in qdloader 9008 mode. How to use this file. Note: The screen does not turn on.
Problem resolved through blankflash file

Hi guys, this is my first post. English is not my native language, so sorry for any mistakes
One week ago i bought a TF300T in UK and now is with me in Spain. The first thing i did was unlocking the device and testing the CM9 rom. I restored the system and with the stock rom the device is not stable (random freezes and reboots).
Triying to get back to factory settings (to stop the reboots), i deleted the whole sd-card (internal memory) and the '/system' folder (don't know why i did it >_<).
Now, the tablet don't start. The screen show the Asus logo and the "Device is unlocked" message. I can access to the recovery (and i can change it) and to the "fastboot" mode, but the recovery can't mount the sd-card via USB, so i can't flash a new room.
I've tried to load a "system.img" via fastboot, but is useless, /system folder is still empty. To do this i've used the "mkyaffs2image" to create a system.img from an old clockworkmod backup.
In conclussion, i have this:
- Deleted /system partition
- Empty sd-card partition
- Full-functional recovery (clockworkmod and team win recovery project).
- Full-functional fastboot mode
- No access to internal memory (can't copy a new rom to internal memory)
I've been trying to create a valid system.img, but i don't how to (i've been reading about a linux tool called "mkfs.yaffs2" but the tutorial that i found seems to be useless, the tablet i still "bricked").
Can anybody help me?
Thank you

do you have an SD card reader or a smartphone with SDCARD slot?
with that you can send the files to the sdcard and then try to flash the ROM in recovery.

My thread above should work as it will allow him to push a new stock rom or CM9 onto the device to flash again.

The problem is that the TF300 recovery can't access to the external SD card reader. The sdcard partition is the internal memory.

No problem, glad I found a solution for it.
If you have put the stock ROM on there you will loose Recovery and ROOT but its easy enough to put them back.

The Custom ROMs are still very early so if you are new to flashing I'd stick with the Stock one until the custom ones get a bit easier to restore.
The problem is that i have the reboots with the stock rom, that's why i'm testing everything

It shouldn't reboot on stock ROM. I would say you have a faulty unit, though if you have unlocked it you might not be able to get it swapped out.
Flash the Stock ROM and DON'T Root it or flash recovery, if it still reboots its faulty.
If it doesnt reboot when its unrooted and only reboots when its rooted you have a dodgy app on there causing it
Ok, I have a problem very similar to threads Ive found by with some minor differences. Hoping for some answers to this nightmare....
I have an AT&T One X - unlocked, rooted and flashed. I was running Viper XL and using TWRP recovery 2.3.10. Yesterday, I decided to flash a Liquidsmooth ROM using flash image gui......everything went fine with install until it hung on liquidsmooth boot screen, for an hour. Figuring there was an install error, I rebooted into twrp to do a recovery. Recovered back to Viper XL and was thrown into bootloop - HTC screen/Viper Boot...over and over again. Finally decided to stop before I destroyed anything.....so here's where I am now. The phone has been reset, sd card was wiped but I can still boot into TWRP without a problem. However, now there is no backup or ROM zip on this SD card.
So my guess is that first and foremost I need to get a ROM on that SD card, however (I'm on a Mac) when I plug the phone in, I get a "No Android Device Connected" in the dialog and when trying to mount SD card via TWRP, the "Mount SD Card" box wont tick.
If I view the log file in TWRP I see a lot of 'could not mount SD card' errors.....
I don't want to keep screwing with it and make things worse. Considering this has happened with both CM10 and LiquidSmooth, my guess is I should just stick with Viper for now, so any help getting this back on here would be hugely appreciated! I have no access to a PC, only a mac.....
Boot screen info:

HBOOT-1.14.0002
RADIO-0,19as.32.09.11_2

eMMC-boot
If you're on Hboot 1.14 and are S-On you need to manually "flashboot flash boot boot.img" in fastboot from the bootloader menu whenever you flash a new ROM. Go to the bootloader and click "fastboot" then plug in your USB connected to the computer and it should now say "fastboot usb" assuming your drivers are installed (it might install them after you plug your phone in). Now you can flash the boot.img from the rom zip manually via the fastboot command window.
EDIT: Sorry didn't realize you were on Mac. I would first figure out how to mount the SD card as removable storage and not an Android device. You may have to format it as a file system first. At least that's what I had to do when this happened to me when I first flashed but i'm on Windows. I should of read your post more thoroughly.
So this would be done from the terminal? I was able to boot onto fastboot, connected USB cable and now show fastbootusb. I downloaded the ViperXL rom again, so I should extract the boot.img and flash this via terminal?
Are the commands the same on a mac? And how do I then get the rom onto the SD card?
Am I correct in my assumption that this is the answer? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1693372

I don't want to give you too much advice since I don't have a mac but I would assume they're the same except you need to have fastboot/adb on your computer but since the ones I have are .EXE files they're not going to work on OSX. However, If fastboot usb came up the computer is reading the phone so you may be able to open the SD card as removable storage on you computer thats how it is on Windows. So once you do that you can just move the ROM zip onto the card. But, like I said you're going to need to figure out a way to flash the boot.img separately or else you won't be able to boot into the ROM when it's installed (you'll just bootloop). You're going to have to do that with every new ROM you flash if you're still S-On.
Wish I can be more help but i'm not that versed in OSX.
you can use [APP] Flash Image GUI - Flash Kernels and Recoveries from normal Android mode! to flash boot.img fine before flashing the rom. it will search the rom zip for the boot.img and flash it. you can also flash recovery using the app also. some roms place boot.img in other locations other then the root of the zip in which case you might have trouble selecting the whole zip, but you can just extract the boot.img and flash it fine.

No problem - thanks for the help you can offer. It seems my bigger problem is getting a ROM onto the SD card - Ive read several similar threads and from what I can tell, doing a factory reset through TWRP means I need to reformat the SD card, which is why it wont mount. Does this sound reasonable?
And if so, is it as simply as "Wipe external storage - SD CARD" in TWRP?

No, this is for the ONE S

Try this to get your SD Card working again:

now you can Mount the SD in TWRP
then put the ROM on the SD and install it with TWRP.

And yes you will have to reformat the SD card I don't know how to go about doing it OSX though. I'm sure a google search will help. The method should be the same for any type SD card plugged into OSX. But remember flashing the boot.img will be the other issue.

doing a factory reset in hboot corrupts your sdcard.
once you get adb/fastboot working try running "fastboot erase cache" that clears out the part of cache where the settings for twrp reside, that is why when you format cache in twrp you always see 16MB when you fastboot erase cache it goes to 0MB but for recovery to store it's settings you need to rewipe cache and dalvik in twrp.

I went through this process before and have all of these same files still on my desktop. I'm able to boot my phone into the bootscreen (white screen) and TWRP without problems....the only issue I have right now is my SD card and getting a ROM pushed to it. I've gotten two conflicting bits of advice that im reluctant to try....one of them states I should just boot into TWRP and do a "Wipe external storage" and the other one says I should format it using disk utility in OSX. When I boot into TWRP and hit "mount", Im given four options, mount system, mount data unmount cache and mount sd card...the ONLY one I cant select is mount sd card.

Not sure what you should do really this happened to me but I forgot what I did. I ended up just formatting the card with the disk utility in Windows but I don't remember if I had to re-flash the recovery or not afterwards.
So I should just use this method again, regardless of whether I may have done it before, correct? This will format in stock recovery?
In the APK folder, there are two fastboot files, one 'fastboot' and one 'fastboot-mac' - i want the -mac one obviously, right?

Mac-Pro:android originalseven$ ./fastboot-mac devices

So it's showing a connection between phone and computer.......
The next logical step would be....format the SD card?

Hey guys,
I want to repair the i9003 for a friend and I'm a little bit confused o.0
I own a i9001 so I'm familiar with Odin and that stuff.
He gave me the device which only had access to the Download Mode. So I flashed a Stock ROM (MODEM, CODE, CSC, ...). It ended in bootloop and previous appeared note in recovery that it wasn't able a access to the sd card anyway ("unable to write to ums lunfile" and can't mount).
I flashed various Stock ROMs but everytime the same conclusion (bootloop). I've already tried to format/(un)mount sdcard through CWM but no chance.
Can anyone help? I read about a method where you have to open the device and connect something to the mainboard but it isn't my device, so I wouldn't do it.
Need help

if phone is rooted go this dir mnt/sdcard/(files)
u can do this with wondershare mobile go program (wondershare mobile go is a software that allow u to manage phone file edit or install app or read massage that nice):cyclops:
so.. mnt/sdcard(files) .export those files with wondershare mobile go from that toolbar .
see can u do this or u will get error during export(beware after export import it and make backup) ?or check it maybe these files are deleted and sdcard folder is empty like my problem.
all my regret is why i didnt backup from that.when i bought it first day.
anyway i have same problem .phone doesnt recognize int/ex sd card and unavailable keep goin thread to find .wont fix with flash by odin at all .
tell me about those files try find them maybe they are corrupted .like mine.i think must take it from other i9003 that hasn't sd card problem.when u find plz upload cuz i need too
and it this case problem will fix with a simple copy paste and if not u dont lose nothin
I can't do that. When I type "diskpart" in cmd.exe and "list disk" there will be no device found (only the hard drive in the computer).
But the PC recognize a device connected to it because in the taskbar the icon for a connected USB drive is shown.
In short:
- device doesn't boot normally (bootloop at logo)
- in stock recovery and CWM there is no internal sdcard shown ("E: can't mount sdcard")
- windows recognize a device but has no access to it
Is it possible to use adb sideload anyway on the i9003 or anything else where I can use adb.exe? I don't know if adb works in Download Mode ... does it?
I tried this CWM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351056 and an another one with green letters.
The first is quite outdated (packed in 31.01.2012).
Is there a newer one?
Here are photos what the Recovery (stock) says after Odin flash (stock firmare)

i had exact same paroblem
do this maybe work (worked for me) .
this problem occurred when i used 16 gb toshiba as ex sd card (doesnt matter brand) after flash sd card and format it by pc that said ex sd remove unexpecteldy and turned off and whole battery charge was over. then i changed ex sd with my other phone and it work with no problem and when i replaced again 16 gb toshiba in phone ,again problem.
but after i format internal storage by phone from setting/phone storage . phone couldnt mount int sd till now.
so i inserted new ex sd and flashed whole rom with odin (MODEM, CODE, CSC, ...) phone started but without int storage i found out sd card directory is different and wont fix with flash STOCK ROM .but i doubt it for Custom ROM.
then i took ex sd card out from phone and turn it on again phone didnt boot up and was hang on samsung logo (same problem with 16 gb toshiba).then put that new ex sd card in and phone was boot up with no problem but int storage didnt come back..
so try with new ex sd and try flash rom (MODEM, CODE, CSC, ...) with odin then it will boot up.

Hi Friend,
I have the same problem. flashing Stock, Kernel , custom rom. Nothing make my phone successfully boot up.
Can you help me how exactly you did this. It might give a life for my friends phone too...
Remove or replace microSDCard.
Perform a clean flash with ddlf2 or original firmware.
And let us know how it went.
Also i see people saying this mistake several times...
Internal SDCard or SDCard stands for phone storage.
Emmc/External Storage/ External SDCard Stands for the microSDCard.
Noting that custom roms usually change the names.
With a custom rom the microSDCard is called emmc inside the system.

Hey, I'm hardbricked on my tab2 (sch-i705) and so have a few others because of loading this aboot.img at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1942674
I was thinking that someone with a working bootloader could run this script:
Code:
#!/sbin/sh
mkdir -p /sdcard/Unbrick_Files/;
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/Unbrick_Files/200MB.img bs=4096 count=50000;
busybox gzip /sdcard/Unbrick_Files/*;
mv /sdcard/Unbrick_Files/200MB.img.gz /sdcard/Unbrick_Files/Unbrick_IMG.gz;
chmod -R 777 /sdcard/Unbrick_Files
and post the output so we can have an unbrick image here.
Nine days have gone by and nobody has a working tab 2 of any variant? Is it possible to take a similar debrick.img and overwrite each partition with the partitions in an odin tar?
Update: Ordered a replacement motherboard so I can make one myself.
How does this solve hardbrick may I ask?
Well, the tab 2 like similar devices allows for booting from sdcard when it is partitioned the same way as the emmc, containing bootloader, SBL, etc. With this script we copy the first 200mb of the emmc to an image file. When the image file is written to sdcard the sdcard is partitioned like emmc (but not complete) so the tab boots from it but only allows entering download mode. Thus we are able to fix hardbrick caused by corrupt emmc.
I've been very busy but the replacement board came in and I installed it yesterday. So I'll have an image for y'all to test soon.
Okay, now everyone posting that they're bricked can try this...

Download this image and copy it to a microsd (supposed to be >8GB class 10) using dd in osx/linux or Roadkil's Disk Image in Windows http://www.roadkil.net/program.php/P12/Disk Image
If it works for you feel free to donate.

Have you or anybody else used this and successfully restored an i705?
Have a hardbricked Tab 2 and am familiar with SD unbricking as Sammys are MOSTLY unbrickable. But seriously, a definitive answer here would be nice...
Last note, writing a bootable img to SD is always best done through Linux Terminal dd commands. Windows applications don't write the partition table. Roadkil only wrote the files into a folder called "image". When properly done in Linux, a windows PC won't recognize the SD card.
So any answers here please?

I tried this method with a micro-sd 16gb class 4, used roadkil, without results, the device not turning on or going to download mode, and if i go to device settings in windows i see qloader 9008 in the com section.
Could the cause of not working be class of the sd card that it's 4 instead of 10?
Thanks in advance.

Even I'm getting the same problem... Do you have a solution for this?
So i relocked my bootloader via adb and now im stuck in a bootloop without a custom recovery. I've screwed myself pretty bad what do i do.
RU_SECURITY_FAIL boot_a and bootloader isn't BL_UNLOCKED)
I can still boot temp TWRP but I don't know how that's going to help.
download mode
SD NOT MOUNTED
OTG NOT MOUNTED
FILE NOT FOUND
I got into this predicament because i wanted to flash RUU but it was not recognizing my otg drive ( under 32 GB) and could't flash with sd card (because it's over 128 GB).

How do i flash it from download mode? My phone isnt recogonizing my otg flash drive and wont read my sd. Also can't flash boot.img or system.img
download htc tool ARUWizard.exe flash
rom.zip OK......
Make sure whatever OTG or SDCard is formatted in fat32 and doesn't have a UEFI partition. exFat is supported however a lot of times a GPT table is created which then makes a UEFI partition when formatting as exfat. That is read by the bootloader instead of the main partition that has the run zip (2Q55).
I'd suggest using Rufus on Windows to format your SDCard/OTG and selecting LEGACY/MBR and fat32.
On linux disk utility has the option for MBR when selecting to erase the entire disk. On Windows it's hit or miss since UEFI is normally hidden and when using the default formatting tool it'll just erase the main partition without changing the partition table back to MBR.
Regular RUU from HTC should've worked just fine

If you're using macos you'll have to use the terminal to create just one fat32 or exfat partition
