Is the 3xl's battery life much better than the smaller one ? - Google Pixel 3 Questions & Answers

Hello guys , i just wanna ask u about the battery life in the 3 and the 3xl
Is the battery performance much better on the larger one ?
Or its about the same ?
I like the smaller one because its much easier to hold in one hand but the battery life is more important for me , so is it worth it to go with the XL ? or not much of a difference ?
and in general , how is the battery performance in both models compared to other flagships ?

If you don't mind the notch and the larger size I would recommend the Pixel 3 XL for battery life but you still shouldn't expect much from either one.
The Pixel 2 battery life wasn't very good and with a 13% bigger screen and 13% more pixels but only an 8% bigger battery the Pixel 3 battery life is actually worse than the Pixel 2.
The Pixel 3 XL has a slightly bigger screen, a slightly higher resolution and a smaller battery compared to the Pixel 2 XL so the battery life of the Pixel 3 XL is also worse than last year's. However it isn't a lot worse and the Pixel 2 XL battery life is decent which is more than I would say about the Pixel 2 and definitely the Pixel 3.

Technically true but the Snapdragon 845 is only 30% more efficient than the Snapdragon 835 and the CPU already doesn't use that much battery. The CPU actually uses very little battery compared to the screen. You can get a pretty good idea about the battery life of a phone just by looking at the screen specs and size of the battery. Having the Snapdragon 845 instead of the Snapdragon 835 will help a little but it's so insignificant that it's hardly worth mentioning.
I like to use a car analogy. In terms of power usage the battery is like the gas tank and the screen is like the engine. If you have a small gas tank(small battery) and a large engine (large high resolution screen) you aren't going to get that far on a tank of gas(fully charged battery).

i think the problem not with the battery or the CPU. I think the OS Pie drain the battery to much. i came form Pixel 2 with Oreo the battery was very good. Pixel 2 and specially Nexua 6P Take the hour to drain 1%. overall the battery not bad

It should be but it isn't. Pixel 2 gave me 8hrs SOT, Pixel 2 XL gave me 7, and the 3XL does 5. Doesn't add up

I have both, the pixel 3xl gets ~1h more sot give or take based on my day to day usage. It's on par with the difference between the 2 and xl and 1 and xl versions (I have had them all). To me, the form factor of the 3 is perfect, screen to body ratio is awesome. The 3xl is fine but it's a huuuuge phone.

I had both and returned the 3 XL. The 3 gets a bit better battery life for me. Even though the 3's battery is 15% smaller and the screen is only 13% smaller, the resolution is 45% lower so it makes a noticeable difference.

OnePlus One better than OnePlus 2...and why?

Hi there. I'm choosing between the OnePlus One and the OnePlus 2 as my next phone due to their OS being better than vanilla Android. But what is this i'm hearing that the older model is better then the current flagship? SO i would like to ask:
1. Which one has a better camera?
2. Which one has a slightly louder speakers?
3. Is it true the OPOne has better battery life/more optimised software than the OP2 despite having a smaller battery capacity?
I'm also worried that the OnePlus One might be left behind with newer/constant updates compared to the OnePlus 2.
Please help. Many thanks.
1) the op2 has a slightly better camera and (afaik) optical image stabilisation. Which helps in video recording and low light performance.
2) I can't say anything for the op2 speaker but the opo speakers are some of the loudest I heard in a phone.
3) battery life is definitely better on the opo. Many people are getting over 5 hrs of sot whereas the op2 seems to get around 4hrs.
And for updates I wouldn't be concerned for the opo. The devs here on xda are doing a great job at updating the opo. We got a quite stabile cm13 within weeks of marshmallow release and it has been daily driver material for many people since the begging with only very minor bugs.
I would say the opo is in almost no way inferior to the op2. Apart from not having a fingerprint sensor and the optical image stabilisation for the camera.
It comes down to your needs and your budget.
I bought my 64gb opo quite some time after the release of the op2 and I can safely say this is the best phone I have owned for my needs. On wifi it is not rarely seen to get 6 to 8 hours of sot. Something the op2 owners can only dream about.
Also check this thread for some more info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3287486
1. Which one has a better camera?
cant answer as ive never touched a OP2
2. Which one has a slightly louder speakers?
My OPO has a mod called Viper4Android and its definatley louder than any phone I have ever heard including the iPhone 6s. Please bear in mind that when playing music each file has a waveform and while it may be the same song when comparing one wave can always be higher than the other which causes differences in volume.
3. Is it true the OPOne has better battery life/more optimised software than the OP2 despite having a smaller battery capacity?
in terms of optimisation it is definitely better (only ever used a custom rom) but I think that is entirely optimisation and eventually the oneplus two will catch up and be close. But one thing to remember here is that the OP2 uses the snapdragon 810 and the OP1 uses the 810 and if you google things like the power efficiency and management many people say the 801 is better.
This is supported by the fact that the 810 runs hotter. now it depends on a lot of factors but generally the less power a chip uses and the smaller it is means the less heat it outputs.. so assuming they use the same size die and rough layout it suggests the 801 uses less battery to complete the same tasks
I'm also worried that the OnePlus One might be left behind with newer/constant updates compared to the OnePlus 2.
This all depends on how many people get it. I honestly think most of the people who want a phone like the oneplus 2 already have a op1 and will only update if they have moneys to spare

Good to know, thanks. XD
I've owned both (sold the 2 and back on the one). The 2's camera is probably better, but the one is no slouch. Sometimes the 2's pictures get almost a water color painting effect when you zoom in 100%. Check out the xda page and look at some of the photos. The opo speakers are MUCH louder than the 2. The 2 also only has 1 speaker on the bottom and was easy for me to cover while holding the phone 1 handed, this completely muting the sound with my pinky finger only.
For me the 2 didn't have horrible battery life but the opo is better (for me)....

Haven't had the oneplus 2 but my only gripe after over a year with the oneplus 1 is the rubbish vibrate... It's loud when out on a table/desk but almost unnoticeable when in your pocket.

Haha, thats true. It makes more noise than it actually vibrates. But it's just something minor in my opinion.
The Oneplus One still is a great phone with amazing battery life! And yeah, when looking at the OP2's price I'd say the OPO is just more worth the money!

Better battery and NFC, I'd love a fingerprint reader on the OPO though...

On a fence: pixel vs XL

Choosing between two. Since they are mostly the same, I'd rather prefer pixel based on size, 5.5 is too much. Battery and pixel density is nicer on XL, but overall is about the same.
The only concern is Google daydream, is it going to suck on smaller screen with less pixels? How bad would be the difference? VR is going to be out month from now, I don't want to wait that long till somebody test it. So any forecasts?

I guess VR would be better on the XL on account of its 2K display. The reviews on the XL are great as well along with awesome battery life. I ordered the smaller one as I prefer the small size but the battery life as per reviews is not as good as the XL
Ordered the small myself, I feel like my Droid Turbo is too big.
But man, oh man, am I going to miss that battery life
this won't be a problem for you. i also chose the regular, not the XL. my eyes aren't great and i work from my phone, so i was looking at the XL as the only option. then my LG G3 (5.5") broke and i had to go back to my Galaxy S3 (4.7") while waiting for the new phone. and i couldn't believe how happy i've been back on the smaller S3! no pixelation problems, or small panel issues, or working from my phone, or any issues at all. so much more compact and easy to handle than the G3! and the Pixel is bigger anyway, so i'm 100% sure i made the right decision by skipping the phablets this time.
I've gone from the Note 7 down to the iPhone 7 while I wait for the REGULAR Pixel to come in this week.
I too struggled with this decision and ultimately have both sizes preordered. I briefly owned iPhone 6 Plus and hated the large size. The xl is just a wee bit smaller, but I fear may still be too big.

I also preordered both sizes .. I have to see them in my eyes to make decisions
I ended up ordering the normal Pixel. I'm not so worried about the size as much as I am about the battery life. I found the 5X to be the perfect size for me, but the battery life on the 6P was so much better I ended up using that as my main phone.
Hoping things are a bit better this time around with the smaller phone and that all the optimisations are enough to get a full days battery life out of the regular sized phone.
Guys, thank you for sharing your thoughts, but what about DayDream VR for XL vs nonXL?

I can't comment on DayDream VR specifically but I have used my Nexus 6P with a google cardboard viewer a bit. It wasn't a great experience even with the 6P's resolution so I reckon it is going to be not great on the Pixel XL, and slightly worse on the normal Pixel due to the XL having a bit higher PPI. Either way it isn't going to be fantastic resolution wise.
Actually, lets move to this thread, I'll post there.

Is battery of pixel 2 good enough?

I do like everything about this phone except battery size. Its sad that google did not upgraded battery and it remain 2700mAh which is rather poor for this price range . Would it give at least 4 hour screen on time with this capacity ? If not then what else phone you will recommend with camera as good as pixel 2 ?
I would expect similar to slightly better than last year's Pixel battery life. My opinion is based on what I've seen from next gen devices from the beginning of Android.

I have the Z2 Force. With my usage between the Z2, S8+, Note8, and my Nexus 5X they get similar numbers with the 5X being the lowest overall time. Z2 Force did a lot better than I expected and people thought the battery was way too small.

Yes I have also used 5X and excellent camera but very poor battery as i was getting maximum 2.30 to 3 hour screen on time so have returned it . 6P has no good reputation about battery either.
we dont have z2 force in here and i assume its camera is not as good as you get from note 8 or pixel..By the way if you have used boht note 8 and s8 plus then which camera is better between these two?
thought because of sd835, amoled display and 3520mAh batterylife will be nice but we will see in reviews.

I am not much of a camera guy. They both look better than the Z2. I give the Note8 the edge because of camera tricks you can do cause other than that I can't tell the difference between photos. Personally if you like photos you can't go wrong with either.
The Z2 has those mods going for it. Personally I use 2 mods. The projector and the battery. With the battery I get 3 days of usage between charges. The projector I use it to watch something at night in my bed. Great for my neck lol.
Personally if I can get 6 hours of SoT per day is all good for me.

6 hour screen on time is excellent and few phones can give this SOT with consistency
I had s7 edge before and was happy with battery(5 to 6 hour SOT on 4G) but still photography was not as good as on Pixel or even Nexus 5x/6p .
I don't know why high end phones don't look at battery department because all midrange or low end phones coming up with 4000mAh aand 5000mAh capacity and that also on 720 p screen . I don't mind extra weight as long as battery is excellent

Sadly that's the problem. There are people want thinner, waterproof, and lighter phones. There has also been no strides is battery for the hardware department. There's some promising projects but the costs currently isn't worth it.
Ironically the only reason why I got the battery mod for my Z2 was because that phone is lighter than the 5X.

The original pixel would last me a solid day. I don't watch a lot of videos though so... If you're a youtube fanatic you're probably screwed.
yeah, pixel 1 is 2700mah and it seems ok..honestly, i get the same battery life out of this (if not better) than i did my v20 which was like 3200mah

I don't know too much about YouTube on mobile usage, but generally video playing doesn't requires too much finger input and that's what consumes more battery. And I don't consider YouTube in WiFi to be so battery killer.
What really kills my battery are video calls......I never had a good battery with video calls.
I don't think your statement about YouTube giving you better battery is accurate at all. In fact I think that's completely false. Almost everyone review site uses screen on while running video because streaming , brightness, and video all eat up your battery quicker than say a static e-reader image.
For instance, almost every review site uses video run down tests on the phone. The run down tests usually knock a battery out in half the SOT.

You are right, I don't know too much about YouTube because I always use it via WiFi. I should had mentioned "video playing" (and not YouTube), so I don't bring the battery consumption used by LTE modem into this. I'll edit my post.
Now, in my experience browsing (tapatalk, whatsapp, chrome, all the apps that constantly requires you to be touching the display) consumes more battery than a video (at least a local video or movie downloaded in your memory).
It's about the same capacity as last year, and the s835 seems to be rather more efficient than the s820/821 judging by other manufacturers' results, so I expect it will be fine.

Pixel 2 or 2 xl?

Just wondering of any of you think there is a huge difference between the 2 and 2 xl besides the obvious being size. I'm really torn between the two and especially since the 2 is around 130 cheaper. Can any of you give me a little insight on what you think the best route I should take. I'm currently using a moto x pure which has a 5.7 inch screen.
Unlike the S9 vs. S9+ The Pixel 2 and 2XL are identical internally (CPU, memory, Camera, features, functionality) and the only difference IS the screen and the bezels; the 2XL looking more modern with much smaller bezels. I would suggest going to your local store and getting a feel for both and pick the one you like the most.. Me personally, I found the 2XL a little too big and preferred the size of the 2.
RE: Online complaints of the 2XL having blue shift screen issues when viewing at an angle.. Please disregard those complaints. This has been confirmed to improved and on par with other devices for some time now.

Funny thing is that I've personally had just as good battery life on my pixel 2 as my panda

I was in the same boat but went for the Pixel 2, the bigger screen wasnt a big deal for me. Battery life on the pixel for me is great seeing its only a 2700 gets me more than a day with medium use.
there the cost factor too...so all depends on what your requirements are
I would go get a feel as pointed out above and make a choice...

No I know, just saying
I'd like that 3520mAh battery, but I prefer the smaller phone, and going from 75% to 30% battery, I get more than the 11 hours a day I need with the 2700mAh battery. Maybe if I had the push to run a more useful ROM and ran the clock down lower (the phone's fast enough for me on battery saver from turn-on to turn-off [come on, Google - make that stick through restarts]) I'd get even more life. (I plan on running this until Android S, at least, so I'd like 4 years of battery life.) But I don't need the extra half inch poking me in the side (I always use an Otterbox Defender).
Luv my XL 2 for the size, custom roms, kernels, etc

Pixel 2 vs Pixel 1

1. I get about 6 hours of SOT on my new 5"' Pixel 1 with browsing, whatsap, youtube and camera the main apps.
I find that the camera is battery hungry.
If I were to Upgrade to the Pixel 2, should I expect a big improvement in battery life?
Please have in mind that batteries degrade over time, so comparing a 2 year old Pixel 1 vs a new Pixel 2 is not very acurate
Other aspects besides battery life:
2. Will I get better bokeh effect (I am already using alternatively the Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 camera). I've seen pictures with both and they re more or less similar.
3. Does the Pixel 2 run cooler?
4. Does the Pixel 2 chrge faster?
5. Better Wi-fi and network signal?
Nope, I would suggest you keep your OG Pixel. You have a headphone jack! There's no quantifiable difference between OG Pixel and Pixel 2 besides a much improved design. I would suggest you wait for the next iteration.
I upgraded from the 1 to the 2 almost exclusively for the front firing speakers. I missed it from my previous HTC One M8. I would prefer a headphone jack but my headphones were already BT and I mostly listen to podcasts and audio books so the decreased audio quality is a non issue. Other than the headphone jack and speaker orientation they feel nearly identical.
The main gripe for me is not enough storage for my music.
Will an one year old Pixel 2 offer better battery life compared to my new Pixel1? People always charge their battery full and that kills it much faster.
After usingg the Pixel 2 for 9 months, here are my comparison conclusions:
- better wi fi signal and slightly mobile network signal
- better battery life when using the camera intensively, quite a big difference
-similar stand by drain and display quality
- prefer the in hand feel of the P1
-improved haptic motor
- slightly better pictures especially low light
- faster storage by quite a margin. It was quite slow on the P1,loading apps took a longer time
