Has there been a fix for the old "Starting Download" issue on the Android Market? I still can't download anything from it. I know that resetting my phone will work (for a while), but it's not an option right now. Any help?
P.S. I've searched the forum as well and was not able to find a concrete answer.
I was told that starting Google Talk should make sure you're logged in to Google's server, which is (supposedly) what causes that problem.

Hmm, I tried that but I'm already logged in
That issue has haunted me for a while - I get a cold sweat anytime a download start takes longer than usual.
I personally don't believe it's an issue with your device (as I've seen some argue it to be), rather it's with your gmail account. When a factory reset didn't fix my problem, I went to a tmobile store where my buddy works, and we put my sim card into every android device he had (mt3g, mts, garmin, and one other I can't remember), only to find that none would allow me to download.
For me the workaround I'm currently using is to set up the device with another gmail account newly created for the purpose of being able to download apps, then set up my "real" gmail (the one I actually use) to sync my contacts and calendar. The only problem is that I can't use my real gmail on gchat, since that only signs into the primary account you used when setting up the device. I don't use gchat much on my phone anyway, so it wasn't that big of a deal.
I suppose it's possible my phone corrupted my account somehow, but I had deleted caches, updates, and anything else I'd heard had worked for others, but to no avail. If you get to the bottom of the problem, be sure to let me know.
Good luck!

Hi! Thanks for the tip but as it turns out - I can't even add another account It always produce an error saying "can't establish connection". Any idea why this is the case?
The "Starting Download" issue for me, was unfixable and related to my google account. I created a new one and it worked flawlessly.

Hmm...that sounds like a connectivity issue and not a problem with the device. I'd say reboot your phone and try again.
Just to be clear, I created a new gmail address and used that during the initial setup of the phone (after a factory reset of course), then went to settings> accounts and sync> select add account and entered the old gmail I've used forever (which is why just ditching it and using the new one wasn't an option - I didn't want to bother notifying everyone I had a new email).
You'll see that you only have the option to sync contacts and gmail with a secondary gmail address - not calendar. To get around this (since my old gmail is the calendar I want to sync), set up the new gmail to share calendars w/ the old one. Once that's done, you'll see in your calendar app settings on the phone the option to sync the old gmail calendar and not the new one.
Hope that made sense! It's really not difficult to do - just annoying that it has to be done at all. I wish someone would figure out why some gmail accounts get stuck at starting download. What a pain.
I had this problem for awhile, but it was because I was task killing Google Talk. When I disabled the task killer it worked fine.
I read a few comments on the help community in the market to go to applications, manage apps, select the market then uninstall updates. This worked for a while but very intermittent. Worth a go though

I generally just wait, I believe it's a server issue...I eventually get the download but, yeah, I wait and then go back to the store and attempt to start the download again...and that seems to work.

Yes downloading from the market is related to the Google Talk app. I once deleted it from /system and it did the same thing.

Thanks for all of the replies. I know of the delete Market update solution but when I browse for Market in the Manage Application screen, I never see the "update" portion there. Any other tips?

Hi,
When I first got my phone a month ago and not knowing what I was doing, when prompted to log into a Gmail account, I set things up with my tertiary/third-most-used account. Little did I know the consequences. When I decided I wanted to now set the phone up with my primary account, I discovered that the only way to do so was with a hard reset!
Well, after going through that process and now wanting to download and install several dozen Market apps that I previously had installed (several of which I'd paid for), I logged into Market, only to find a message saying "No downloads from Android Market."
I assume that Market doesn't recognize my new Gmail address as belonging to the same person as the one I was using previously (even after I added it). Is there a way that I can associate the two accounts for Market so that I can get my apps back?
Thanks!
This might be a dumb question and a little too late, but is there a reason you NEED the phone set up with your most used account? If I'm not mistaken, it ought to be painfully easy to set the phone up with a second google account for things like gmail and calendar and such. You might even be able to get contact sync from a second google account, with apps and such just syncing from the old account that you already used for that purpose.
I'd have at least given that a try before doing a full wipe, but you might have reasons I haven't thought of yet.
Not a dumb question at all. In fact, I'm the one feeling pretty dumb right now, for jumping the gun like I did. I did have a couple of other reasons, but I'm beginning to see that it wasn't as

...worth the cost. The other problem now is that I'm deluged by mail from my primary Gmail account. It also goes to my ISP account, where I can read it much more efficiently.
I can see another hard reset in my near future. :-(
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I can tell you from experience (I've flashed a few roms...) that a hard reset isn't nearly as hard when you're syncing to the google account that has all your contacts and apps attached to it...
Silas, you lost me. What do you mean that it isn't as hard? Because you don't lose as much data? Are you talking about doing a hard reset without switching accounts like I did?
Would I be better to reset again (not a big deal at this point) and go back to the way it was, or not? Would I get my apps back (I hope)?
FWIW, I use my Gmail accounts only to collect and back up my email accounts, and for quick searches. I thought I might start using Google Calendar, though, and thought it might be better to use the one in my main Gmail account. Possibly I could sync the same calendar to both accounts, though -- could I?
And finally, is there any way at all to get my paid apps back with my current setup?
Thanks, everyone.

This might help you. Go into gmail and click the account address in the upper right corner. At the bottom is an option for adding an account. You should be able to let you apps back after adding that other account back. Hope it helps. If not, at least I tried.

Well, I thought I had replied a couple of hours ago, and here's my message, still waiting to post. Sigh....
Thank you, ZeroRilix. Unfortunately, no dice.
When I did that, there were already three accounts there. After hard resetting and setting up my primary Gmail account, I had also set up my other two Gmail account in Accounts & sync in Settings. However, when I viewed them as you suggested, it said that neither of them had been synced. So I made sure that Contacts, Calendar, and Mail were synced for all three accounts. When I went into Market and viewed My Apps, all I saw were still the few I had downloaded since the hard reset.
Thanks, though....
No prob. Everything you've already tried should've worked. I might suggest contacting Android Market and letting them know what's going on. I have included the link to the appropriate form to fill out. Sorry your still having issues, and maybe they can help you further. If you get the issue resolved, post back here so users who might run into this same issue cam fix it. Good luck!

I thought for sure I'd replied to this, but I can't see my response anywhere. Don't know why I'm having such trouble posting.
Thanks very much for this. I sent a support request yesterday and will let you know what they say. Unfortunately, it's Saturday, and I assume nobody's there to answer. Why do things always go wrong on the weekend?
Hi,
Here's my latest update. Not wanting to wait till Monday or later for a reply from Market Support, I decided to try posting my question to the Android forum at androidforums.com. I got a couple of helpful responses and I'm back in business. Here's the thread for anyone interested:

The short version is that I started over the way I had initially and all my apps downloaded automatically!
Thanks again for the help.
Hey Guys,
I have the latest gmail app on my nexus 4, running Android 4.4.3 KitKat. I am unable to download any attachments through the app, and it is beginning to bother me. I have had this issue over the past gmail app versions, and from 4.4.2 KitKat also. Pictures say they can't load, and any other files fail to download, and retrying doesn't help. A workaround that I can use now is saving everything i need to Google drive from within the gmail app, and accessing them from another app, but this isn't a permanent solution. I have tried wiping gmail cache, gmail data, and completely uninstalling gmail and reinstalling it from the play store after a reboot, all to no avail. None of the solutions I have found work. If you guys Know how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hi
I have the same problem!!?? it is very annoying please anybodies have a solution? I cant't open any attachment via gmail app always I use save to drive to see any attachment via my mobile device.
Hey,
I never solved the issue and from Browsing around it seems it happens to some people and not to others. I just use the drive workaround now, because I have nothing else left to try.

Hi
Yeah the same as me, I feel tired of finding a solution for this problem. it is very wired that Google didn't mention this problem or solving it by newest version of gmail app because I found many threat talking about the same issue without a solution. many of member say to switch to K9 app instead of gmail app but the problem that in the k9 there are no categories like gmail ( Primary, Promotion, Social, Forums) I used them a lot because I don't like to get a notification when a new email come to one of these categories except Primary. these feature doesn't exist in another email app like K9.
I just had to re-enter a bunch of appointments on my google calender because they ended up previously on this other calendar (which seems to be phone only, so perhaps it's an Xperia thing, or maybe it's a hangover from some other system I've used in the past, although I doubt it because i've not logged into any other calendar systems on my Z3).
I can disable it from within the google calender app, so hopefully it would cause any more trouble, but I'd like to get rid of it. I've disabled the original (sony?) calender app but it's not removed this option.
Does anyone else have this? You can see it by running the Google calendar app and dragging the left edge of the screen right. You can remove it from here in settings, but it's still available in settings. I want it gone!
Syncml-orphaned driving me mad

I have the same problem. Tried deleting and reopening to no avail. Contemplating deleting my google account altogether and starting from scratch.
Calendar has recently been chewing a lot of battery on my Z3C, and I've noticed that I also now have a syncml-orphaned calendar appearing. Anyone else found this in recent times?
Has this been solved? One year later I still have the same problem, even on newer Sony Xperia phones
Well, I think I have found a way: Using TitaniumBackup I have performed WIPE DATA on Calendar Storage and Calendar. This has fixed the syncml-orphaned problem for me.
Of course, for this to work you have to have Root.

This worked for me without TitaniumBackup:
Clear data of the app ‘Calendar Storage’. As this is a system app, you need to activate ‘Show system’ in the app list.

I switched to Edison Mail. Small footprint. Instant notifications. All the functions of Gmail plus the added bonus of a combined In Box. Just like GMail it reads my messages and adds things to my calendar, reminds me about bills, etc.
