Extremely slow/delayed push notifications on 8.1 and 9.0 - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

Okay, ever since I updated to 8.1, and now 9.0, I have had extremely slow push notifications (gmail and other email clients, banking apps, social apps, etc. the only thing that works consistent is voice/text)
A lot of the time, I will get absolutely no notifications until I turn my display on, then all the notifications start triggering
Never had this issue with 8.0
Stock 9.0 with flash kernel and magisk (have always ran this configuration on any version, stock + flash kernel + magisk)
Any ideas? Thanks

did you try disable battery optimization?

It's a long shot but have you maybe installed the magisk module to force Google Play services to drain less battery or something similar?

long shots always welcome! no modules installed at all, though

Since Gmail is a system app it will show in Safe mode. Have you tried booting to Safe mode and sending yourself an email?

[Q] Greenify "Keep notidfications" feature not working as expected

Has anybody tried the xposed framework? Phone is rooted and I want to use the "keep notifications" feature which requires xposed. I have read the xposed threads and it seems like its very unstable n had loads of bugs and can also almost brick the phone. Has any body tried greenify with xposed? Has anybody installed xposed successfully on moto g?Are there any problems on moto g due to xposed?
Thanks guys for the help. I did install and activate it and rebooted. I activated the greenify module and rebooted again. Then I turned on the "keep notiifcations" feature in greenify and rebooted yet again. Now another problem quietly bombarded upon my face. I am simply not getting any notification for the hibernated apps. For example, let's take the Facebook's messenger app. It is hibernated. I asked my friend to send me a message just to see if I got any notification. I simply didn't. Any solutions to this?
Noo... nothing like that u cn use....i m using it...also have more modules too..nvr had any problm.

Xposed gets unstable if you use lots of modules and especially some exotic ones.Otherwise you wont even notice that it's there.
I concur. Used Xposed with the GravityBox and BootManager modules for several months on my previous phone and never had any problem. I guess you could get bugs if you activate different modules that perform the same modifications, though. They might conflict with one another, I guess.

Yes : uninstall Greenify
I never noticed any real difference in battery life.
I am seriously considering giving up on greenify for a while and see if it goes well, maybe back to use ART in this case for uninstalling xposed. I feel the battery impact is not that huge at all.

Guys, I don't use Greenify for saving battery, I use it for getting some free RAM. These apps like Whatsapp, Facebook, Messenger, etc always keep running in the background and hog memory and impact game performance. Also, when these apps receive messages and a notification comes up, the running game lags for some seconds badly. One solution is turning the wifi off. But still, these apps do try to connect when running in the background and thus they do have some sort of activity going on. Also, they eat RAM and depriving the game of memory and thus slowing it down.

In that case simply enable "GCM Push notifications" on experimental features, all the pushes that come within GCM will work properly - well, quite properly since it lags the notifications a bit on my end.

[SOLVED] Extremaly delayed push notifications

[June 25 2018]
It looks like I solved my problem by reading about push notifications here:
https://help.moengage.com/hc/en-us/...not-receiving-push-notifications-sent-by-you-
It got me thinking that GCM service in my Nokia 7 plus is not properly connecting with Google’s servers. So I looked around how to hard reset my device using this tutorial:
NOTE: [THIS WILL ERASE ALL YOUR DATA. MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR FILES FIRST]
http://www.techeligible.com/2018/05/27/unlock-pattern-nokia-7-plus/
select Wipe data/factory reset.
After restart configure your phone as a NEW DEVICE. Push notifications seem to work as they should. They are waking the device from sleep mode immediately.
This method will most likely work for all Android devices.

I really like this phone but the push notification problem just kills me.
When phone is in sleep mode push notification don't wake it up.
Just leave the phone on the desk for 15 minutes and send yourself an email from different device.
Same applies to WhatsApp. If someone sends me a message it can take half an hour before phone will show notification.
This is frustrating and apparently there is no fix.
I did even factory reset and the problem persists.
Tweaks like exclude app from battery optimazation don't work.
This clearly Android Oreo fault.
Google is so fixated to save battery that it castrates crucial functionality
+1 to the delayed notifications problem!
As you wake the device up, the Whatsapp icon also keep showing in the taskbar - "Checking for new messages" quite often.
that also happens at intervals while the device is ON & other apps are being run.
I hope this, the fingerprint navigation (left+right), battery SOT, stability will improve with proper update to Andro-P. and SOON!
Same problem here. "Heartbet" apps dont work either.
Same here! Maybe it's push notifications server problem?
pls. make sure that notification apps have permission to work in back ground as it may be restricted for battery saving

Gmail and WhatsApp are excluded in battery optimazation. It makes no difference.
Gmail is a Google app. It comes with system but push notifications are not working properly.
There in no other way to set apps to work in background. At least I didn't find such option...
Didn't work for me. Anybody else managed to fix this?

I had the exact same issue and it was really frustrating me. Resetting my phone didn’t help as detailed here. But finally after some playing around i fixed mine
In the battery settings i enabled Adaptive battery and then went into background activity manager. I enabled both auto activate and lock screen on all the apps i had problems with receiving notifications. Now i get all app notifications straight away with no delays

OnePlus 7 Pro Slowdown

It seems after about 48 hours of up time. The phone begins to lag extremely bad. Mostly when I first start typing it'll take 3 seconds or so for it to finally catch up to my typing. This happens Everytime I use the keyboard after those 48 hours or so. Apps seem to open very slowly as well after this time. A reboot seems to fix it and it runs fine after that until then. I've tried about 3 different kernels and face the problems with everyone. Not seeing any odd battery drain either. Just curious as to what would be causing this. Only module I have installed is google framework (for the dialer)

Hmm really. I'll have to give that a shot ?
EDIT
I don't see Gboard even under the battery optimization. Doesn't give me an option to remove it from optimization. Pretty much all apps run slower around the 48 hour mark it's not just Gboard. But that's weird it's most annoying.

Could be an app leaking memory (not properly returning it when it's no longer needed). Have you added any new apps recently? Try freezing them.
Or perhaps a bad app update?

I'll have to check apps here and there cause I have a pretty long app list but nothing that would run in the background much. But nothing new that I'm aware of. Not seeing my memory usage maxed out or anything. I'll have to take another look after my phone's been on for 48 hours.

Show system apps from menu
Also if you have Alot of apps installed you can try to turn off sync
This should take Alot of strain away from apps trying to update/check for updates
Stuff like snapchat, Facebook, and other apps with frequent updates.
If you have magisk/EdXposed installed it could be these as well since they are trying to force the system to change code.
It kinda depends on what you have done to your device, if it's stock then sync or doze could be the problem

Sync isn't on for most apps I have. Everything is stock other than having magisk installed. Like I said oddly battery life and phone speed are great until 48h mark or so. I'll just have to work on narrowing it down from apps and stuff. Gboard isn't under any optimization settings. I can't remove it even with system apps enabled. Because if it's just cause the app is being dozed I would like to remove it.

Sync is either on or off. I don't believe you can select certain apps, atleast I'm not aware of this as I just turn it off unless I need updates
Is the battery dead or is it being charged over the 48h.
If the apps being forced to sleep it has the tendency to lag and be unstable (stuff I noticed with my s5 before this phone)
Have you tried another keyboard? (I use SwiftKey and have had no lagging issues unless I messed with stand by apps via developer options)

Does clash of clans, cod mobile, or old school runescape run on your device? Or do you get blackscreen?
Seems it only happened on the new 10.3.0 / 10.0.3
It use to run fine on older 10.0.0
I think it could be the "backup" since it broke these apks into parts.
Its kinda annoying because I haven't been able to use these in over a month.
And OnePlus is in hiding due to the cornavirus.
It is the gboard sometimes and it usually starts to happen wit whatsapp and Instagram
It's the gboard it's hide arrow is sometimes visible even if you're not using now I don't know if this happens on your phone but using whatsapp or Instagram(nightly) whenever you go to Home screen from typing a message there's a small arrow that will appear at left bottom that collapses the keyboard. also there's a delay in status bar pull down sometimes whenever the problem latter mentioned starts to occur.

Question Notifications not pushing

Hi all,
I have been facing a weird issue of notifications not being pushed (some apps) on my S22U.
It was bearable in the beginning but now I am missing notifications of MS Teams and other important apps. Which quickly turns it into a nuisance.
I am rooted with latest magisk, lsposed - zygisk.
I would like to resolve it without reflashing my firmware again. Any help is appreciated.
Few things I have tried.
Checking if the notifications settings is on of the app.
Checking if I have not accidentally enabled DND (which is off)
Restarting the device.
Googling if someone have similar issue.
Reinstalling the app.
Clearing app data.
Disabling and re-enabling the notifications.
Thanks in advance.

How about in the phone's device care/battery settings? Is the power saving option turned on?
Just spit-balling here, but, I myself forget to turn it off (sometimes) on a new device set-up/after a factory reset. Guessing power saving option turned on could possibly affect timely notifications.....
Checked. Power saving is off. Appreciate the spit-balling, never know what will work.

This happens to me with LinkedIn: I get notif sound, but no pop up and icon on top bar. If I swipe down the notification is there though.
I am not getting any indication, no notification in statusbar and notification bar and no notif sounds. Weird that it is happening on some apps. I think some magisk module might be culprit but not certain.
