This thread has been created to provide OP5T feedback to @Arnova8G2 regarding his port of the Google Camera app.
Describe your experience (mostly what doesn't work as expected)
Provide logcats: the dev does not have your phone, so logs are needed if you want him to fix stuff (How to take logcats?)

@Arnova8G2: Using the latest Oreo Beta Build, I get a crash after switching the device profile and going back to camera mode. Any device profile will do. When switching back, the camera freezes and becomes unresponsive until an error message pops up, informing me that the camera had a fatal error and the app force closes.

Front camera isnt working at all. App crashes everytime. What do you think are the best settings for good pictures?

What is ZSL ? Do we have to use it with O+5T ?
Sorry for the noob question. I try 1.3 and I like the portrait mode, and I use settings :
Config : Nexux 6 auto
Model : Pixel 2XL
HDR + : High
And it works great even with portrait mode, just hate the white dots...
Front camera does not work, it crash.
Edit : portrait only works on people, not objects, why ? v1.3
Edit : V1.4 I don't have portrait mode, so it's useless for me.

Zsl means zero shutter lag will only work on the configuration that supports it. Pixel 2017 zsl supports zsl and you also have to enable it from the advance setting. In zsl pic is immediately clicked without any shutter delay. It is not mandatory to use in op5t.

The app is all on default settings except I enabled portrait mode (that works fine btw), but the app crashes when I go to the front camera (that works for an istant).

As soon as I choose portrait mode the app crashes on Oreo build beta 1 os2 (most recent). The app works if I don't change any settings and just point and shoot but that's no HDR+ or ZSL. I suppose I will experiment. Thanks for all the hard work on the mod. Hopefully we get a working modded camera for the OP5T

Try enabling it from the settings side then close app and reopen. Let us know if that works. Others reporting it working but I'm on OB (hotfix release) and can only use standard camera. Whenever I use her+ and portrait mode it crashes.

Yes I found portrait mode thanks! But if I switch just Once to front camera it crash, and the app can't run anymore, so I have to reinstall it again.
So don't use the front camera. HDR+ and portrait mode (with rear camera) works well.
I use Config : Nexus 6 auto
Model : Pixel 2XL
HDR+ : High

@Arnova8G2, @azazello22, just tried V1.5Beta2. My logcats are long form, but I'd rather have too much, than miss something, so I couldn't upload them here, so I had to put them on my server.
Switching to front cam, changing no settings, crashes. Sometimes it displays a picture for a split second before it does. Other times it's just a black screen before crashing.

DokatSuya's settings work. However if you aren't on the exact right settings, it's will crash every time. The screen just goes black and the camera crashes.

On v1.5 beta 2 the app crashes after a split second everyone I try to switch to front cam... Is there any fix to take selfies as of now even normal selfies without portrait mode as of now ??

Same here, in my case I moved from 4.7.4 to 4.7.6 and now when I go to front camera it crashes

Google Camera Portrait Mode for (mido) tested ✔️

Google camera portrait mode finally working on Redmi Note 4 .
Credits goes to appropriate guys who ported it earlier
I just tested and cooked the whole do to list to enable portrait mode on our Redmi note 4 (mido)
Any Nougat or Oreo rom ( miui 9 tested )
(If you're messing with miui , don't forget to flash / keep "lazyflasher zip handy to prevent bootloop)

It crashes in some roms in bright daylight...and i noticed if u click many pictures quickly in bright daylight in custom roms ..its bound to crash...and indoors if too many clicks are made frequently, the colour of the pics come greenish...? But the cam app least crashes in miui...so if you want the best experience and be sure about no crashes then use it in miui...

Didn't noticed any greenish tint in any of photos , but yes sometimes the app crashes ,
Solution : force close app (either set this action as long press back button)
And open any other camera app .
Then reopen google camera ..
Reason of crash (synchronisation of hdr and image comparison algorithm mess up)
Sometimes re opening doesn't fix the problem of crashing as
Camera try to resume the comparison of frames taken previously .. then you have to wait till the camera service declare timeout .)

Do all the google camera mod by different developers provide the same quality of picture?

I also have tested it.
On MIUI 9 Global Stable 7.0 Nougat
Two Problems -
1) Portrait shots just work on Human Subjects that too with an accuracy of 90% . You need to enable Lens Blur in the settings for other objects and get an average looking portrait.
2) Slow Motion crashes the app.
Rest features are just amazing. The camera performance has increased by many folds.

90% accuracy is enough for something shipping with a single rear camera ?..
And yes it work only when face detection is triggered.
Though the shutter speed is fantastic when switched to portrait mode ?

Does it still need Omnivision sensor pink tint fix flashed ?

No different zip needed to flash with my redmi note 4 !! (Redmi note 4x)

Is it able to perform as good as the stock camera of RN5P? I mean the portrait mode (front n back) works fine or not?
I tried the BSGod of Gcam on RR rom. But i finally came to the conclusion that stock camera is the best for this phone. It takes pictures in super sharp quality, Gcam was not working as good as this one. Also the shutter speed was too low in GCam

Let's get something out of the way, MIUI stock camera does not have better image quality than GCam, nor it ever will (at least on this device).
HDR+ on your GCam either didn't work, or you didn't set it up properly, because there are a few settings which have to be changed.

HDR+ worked on my device but it took a lot of time. After clicking the picture took arnd hlf a second at first, and then again a few seconds to process the HDR+.also during videos, there was a lot of issue in exposure and it didn't had time lapse too.Also the selfies taken by miui camera were better as compared to Gcam(i think thats coz it recognises it only as 5mp)

Well first of all, my reply was about picture quality of HDR+ vs MIUI HDR(On/Off/Auto) or HHT you name it. In that regard there is no point comparing the two, as computational photography prowess of Google Camera is just ahead in every way.
And as for the other, I don't remember whose GCam I used that had working portrait mode on objects, but it really did work, try out different versions. Even though it's just 5mp, the processing is better, you must have had a malfunctioning app. Also no issues with video exposure here (just missing the 60fps) and the HDR+ processing was a bit slow only in low light).
I am using BSG mod right now, specifically MGC_5.2.022_FINAL_1.0.apk and here are my settings. You can try out Arnova's v7.9.9 I used that one too.

I had installed pixel experience rom on my whyred and was wondering to get fully stable Gcam on it to get complete pixel rom on my whyred,then tried with BSG's gcam but it offers limited features so I turned to find a stable Gcam with almost all features and came across this Gcam mod : MGC_5.3.015_v.1.0.5_Tolyan009.
It can be used as daily driver as it almost fully stable.
What's Working in it.
1.Slow mo.
2.Portrait.
3.Google lens.
4.Video at 1080p 60 fps
<auto focus working with video stabilization>
5.photo sphere.
6.panorama.
Problems with this:
1.lens blur is bit choppy and is advised not to use it.
2.Run and use this as it is with default settings change in settings may results in app blunders.
3.there is 4k uhd option but it's not working.

For this to work make Gcam as default camera app.
Everything is working fine in my phone after making it default app and disabling snapdragon camera app.
If it still not works try clearing data and rebooting phone.

Dude I just checked. Selfies are getting flipped after clicking the picture.
Like in stock camera, selfies look like when you are about to click the picture.
But one problem I found in all gcam apps is after clicking the picture, selfies don't look like just before clicking. They are flipped sideways.

But one problem I found in all gcam apps is after clicking the picture, selfies don't look like just before clicking. They are flipped sideways.

I am sorry for that but in my case it is working properly without any problem so I am not able to scratch this.

Its mirror mode in miui cam you can configure it in setting whether to enable or disable it idk about gcam

On lineage front camera works

I just tried this with the new RR 7 (RR-P-v7.0.0-20190203-whyred-Official) and it works fine.
⌐At first the images were monochrome for some reason, switched config HDR+ to pixel 1 and the images came out normal and with HDR+. Turning it back to pixel 2 after a while
and magically nothing changed. Images were still in color.
⌐There are a few random bugs like the ones in OP and some others like there being 2 lens blur mode options.

Try it. Not sure if it checks the SDK number or not. Worst that happen is you remove it and restore the camera backup you should make before removing old and installing new camera apk

Be aware that while it does install in stable 9.0 OOS, the nightscape thing doesn't do anything to the final photo (already did comparisons). I've read reports of it working on OB6 so stable users have to wait for an update.

It freezes the camera app for me. Uninstalled.

New stable OOS is out. Thats inside now.

Do we have to use with flash?

I'm having some issues with the new camera on 9.0.2. The night mode actually looks worse because it seems to apply a weird oil painting effect and it blurs out details. Aside from that the portrait mode edge detection and blur quality is absolutely garbage. There is no way to change the "beauty" filter now apparently (the slider for it was removed?). And I can't get the studio lighting feature to work.
Can anyone help?

Night mode is what it is and can be further improved, it's just software. About beauty mode, yes the slider is still there. If it isn't for you try to clean flash. Studio Lightning is, from what I've read, something that happens automatically for portrait pictures, meaning it isn't a mode/slider/option.

Are you sure the beauty mode slider is still there for rear camera? I have it for front facing camera, but for rear camera it's just "on-off". I tried wiping cache and data of the camera app but that did nothing to help.

You never specified which camera you were talking about so how would I be sure? The answer is no in that case. Slider isn't there but then again, if this is a feature request or a missing feature report, you should post that information in the official stable thread for OOS.

Lowlight vs preset. (Updated)
*•*photo 1. standard auto hdr.
*•*photo 2. iso :2000 shutter at 0.4 with manual wb at 4200+/-
*•*photo 3. iso : 400 shutter at 5 and wb at 4060k.
*•*photo 4. iso : 1600 shutter at 8 and wb at 4060k (extreme low light conditions)
Tripod used : Tripod was used for shot 3 and 4, I used a $5 one with a $1 phone mount. Something an everyday consumer would be able to get.

Comments:
obviously leaving the shutter open draws in more light but it also captures more yellow. so i just manually tune that and save it as a preset. because night photos usually need to be cooled. I tried to use as low iso as possible in the settings to try reduce any unnecessary noise caused by high iso.
photo 2's settings are nice if you dont have tripod. as you can see the noise is significantly decreased and has way better sharpness. but still kept relatively the same exposure.
then for settings of the 3rd photo are my favorite. you need a tripod. but i mean it cames out amazing. even beats low light mode.
The 4th photo and settings are for extreme low light conditions and you'll need a tripod too.
