Slow down after time? - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

I just switched to this phone after having a pixel 2 and an s9. The pixel 2 had horrible quality control issues as well as Ram management (plus it's ugly as sin), and after 2 RMAs I got frustrated and traded for an s9. The s9 had probably the best hardware of any phone I've ever owned, but the stutters and lags eventually bothered me to the point where I sold it and bought this phone. Right off the bat I could see that this combined everything I liked about the s9 and pixel, it's as if they had a baby haha. The camera might not be as good, or screen, but all things considered this is by far the best phone I've ever used. It's my first OnePlus device and it seriously shocks me how smooth and responsive it is. Even moreso than my time on iPhone honestly. It simply does not lag, and I can open games I didn't use for a few hours with no reload.
My question is: does this performance hold up over time? I can't see me getting rid of this phone for a long long time if so.

I have friends with one plus 3 and 3t , what you think ?
One plus is best combination of software and hardware , no slow downs over time ,runs very fast and have the best updates !

Would you still buy a S6/S6 Edge today?

Hi, I'm currently the owner of a OPO and satisfied with performance an everything, but it's just too big. Thus I'll need a new phone for not more than 500€ and with a screen about 5 inches.
So I wanted to ask you GS6 owner if you're still satisfied with your phone after six months. Could you answer these questions?
1. Do you still have the out of RAM problem?
2. How is your battery life?
3. Is your phone (with Touchwiz) still snappy or did it become slow?
4. Did you have problems with broken backs?
5. Does your phone run hot?
6. Would you still buy it now?

I was split between iphone 6 plus and note 5. But once I saw galaxy s6 my friend was using, I opted to go with galaxy s6 for a number of reasons:
1. RAM was a software issue, and after the recent update, I don't experience aggressive RAM management issue.
2. Battery life. Although not as large as Lg G4/note 5, it's enough, and usually lasts me a full day and a half of my normal use. Users complain of non-removeable battery, but I've never carried my extra battery on galaxy s4, so it was never a problem
3. Touchwiz is much less bogged down, and I really enjoy using it.
4. Build quality. No longer plastic, and I care for my phone, so I'm not worried about glass sandwich. Also, the back glass is relatively cheap and easy to replace, so I'm not concerned about it cracking/shattering.
5. The phone thankfully does NOT run hot. My ipad air 2 runs hotter than galaxy s6. I watch videos, and play intensive game (ie. vainglory/NFS), and haven't had issue with the temperature.
6. I would absolutely buy it. It's more compelling now, with the discounts, and deals.

1. Do you still have the out of RAM problem? I never really had an issue
2. How is your battery life? Not bad....not perfect, but it lasts all day
3. Is your phone (with Touchwiz) still snappy or did it become slow? I think so, but I use Nova Launcher for the customization
4. Did you have problems with broken backs? No

6. Would you still buy it now? I might have to say no just because the S7 may be out sooner rather than later.

Yes I do.
I tried op2 and Z5 in last months, both good but S6 is still better (camera and general performance over all).
I'm waiting for meizu pro 5, maybe that will be as good as S6.

If I needed a phone today, yes, no doubt. Otherwise I'd wait until the S7 comes out in Feb/March next year.

Yes, but I won't spend more than 500€ and the S7 will be most likely 650€ or even more because of the weak euro... So I couldn't buy it anyway...

->I like this phone, but ANYbody says it have gone, is lying. Still there: 90% of time u have 15% or less ram free!, AND I flash always the latest FW from sammobile ! IT is And we only can hope 6.0 will fix it. I don't think so, just hope. Many people says this is exynos problem...we will see, or not, if I change from S6 only FOR THIS issue.

-> maybe. The problem is that nobody around me have Xperia z5. Only forums are to decide. BUt. S6 became CHEAP. compared to other flagships, Like z5, 6s, ...is anybody who makes similar to good?no. (lg g4 was good, but OLD).

Yes, I have this is obvious. But in overall this device worth to buy despite of this issue. (minor issue, and 6.0 is coming we hope )
But I have tried z3+, z5 and this photo,camera quality cannot be compared with s6.
One plus thing : quick charge. Samsung doing well, again, against other qualcom 2.0 Qucik charging devices. It push up the battery so fast, at least 20-30 minutes before z5 can do, for example.
I really would like to use z5 like sony device BUT the overheating issue, and the camera quality is terrible. STILL with todays's Sony z5 fw upgrade.
I always hated samsung device to hold. But i have to change my mind, competitors is even not just arround the corner. I am also waiting for Q820, BUT the thing that Qualcom have sent the 820 to samsung to help them is redicious.
s6 still the best in every aspects. there are issues, but cannot compared these to Q810 devices....
And S6's price are dropping to floor each day by day

I will add my experience to the one that said not so good things about the phone.
1. Do you still have the out of RAM problem?
This problem is still there. I think that whoever says it's gone, does not know how it shows up. It's not about how much RAM you have free or not, or how much it lags on daily use within an app, but how many apps it can hold open at the same time. This is clear when you open some apps and "exit" them using the home button instead of the back button. You can easily see that if you open a webpage in Chrome, open a couple other apps (always using the home button, not exiting with the back button) that when you go back to Chrome, the website reloads from scratch, meaning that the RAM manager has killed the app and has to fetch everything again. So no, the RAM problem is far from solved. Hope they fix it in future updates, but I wouldn't bet on it.
2. How is your battery life?
I feel this aspect is really flimsy and blame it a lot on Google and it's Play Services. It can't be that while rarely installing or changing apps or they way I use the phone, my battery life is so irregular. Some weeks it's good, some is downright bad, then back to normal, I don't know. I suspect that the only thing that can change and affect this without me noticing apart from the battery life, is the Google Play Services and their shadowy background updates. The first weeks with the phone I was seeing like around 4hs or more SoT, and now 3 months later, I see from 2 and a half to 3. Had the same wobbly behavior with my previous phone (OPO), sometimes great SoT, sometimes just bad.
3. Is your phone (with Touchwiz) still snappy or did it become slow?
I would say that it might have changed but not substantially. It's by no means slow or unacceptably laggy. It's clearly no Nexus, but if you already know what to expect, I'd say it's good. In a scale from 1 to 5, being 1 painfully slow and 5 Nexus like, I'd give it something between 3.5 and 4. It's ok but it could be better.
4. Did you have problems with broken backs?
Not at all. The phone is not that heavy LOL. Now seriously, if there's something that I, as a Samsung hater between the S3 and S5 era, can congratulate Samsung for, is the build quality and materials. Top notch all the way. Solid and precisely crafted.
5. Does your phone run hot?
I notice it gets hot sometimes on the top right frame (above the power button), but you notice it just if you go and touch that part, the whole phone does not seem to have a problem with temperature. Didn't try to push it to have one, though.
6. Would you still buy it now?
I've been looking for a replacement just because I miss stock Android and the Nexus brand, but I am really not convinced by any of the Nexus since the OG Nexus 6. The Nexus 6 is just gigantic, not for me (the OPO was big for me, that's why I ended up with the S6 and love the size, it's perfect. Although I'd prefer it to be thicker to even out the camera bump and make space for a bigger battery. I don't win anything by having a phone this thin compared to this thin + 1mm of the camera bump, I think that decision was just dumb). The Nexus 6p is way better but still big (it's bigger than the OPO) and there are way too many reports for me to jump on it yet. The Nexus 5x does not convince me because I feel Google made it worse on purpose so that people preferred the 6p over the 5x, not just for the price. I would have loved to have a 5x with the specs and benefits (for example, the extra cable or the higher framerate filming due to the extra power of the processor).
Would you still buy a S6/S6 Edge today?
With all that said, I think that today as they said before, with the prices dropping, it's a great option. Even more if you care a bit about the camera, which is awesome. If it only had a bit better battery life, I would not think about replacing it anytime soon, but that and having stock Android always makes me think about other devices. Maybe I'll root and put a custom ROM to it, a stock based one, but with better battery life and less bloat. OH, SPEAKING OF BLOAT: it comes bundled in with some Cheetah Mobile software that cannot be uninstalled or disabled. That drives me freaking nuts and I hate both Samsung and Cheetah Mobile for that. Not experienced any overheating so far, in fact just picked it up from my desk and it's cold to touch - which in my opinion is a nice feel.

Thank you for your post. I currently also have the OPO and it's too big and the battery sucks since 5.0. I get a bit over 2h of screen on time, but I read on most pages that the S6 would have way higher screen on time, so what do you think? Is it really that bad currently?

I have also read that, but I kinda get similar times as I did with the OPO. Take into account that apps you usually use and the signal quality of the places you use to visit have impact on battery life, so the best way to measure it is to find someone who has a similar usage to yours, which is hard. That's why I just tell you that the battery life between those devices is similar, or maybe a bit worse on the S6, but not significantly, so I think you'll have a similar experience. I also envy those I see with 4, 5, even 6 hours SoT with the S6 and I can only blame the apps and network coverage, because otherwise I don't understand why the difference is so big.

no, i wouldn't, because i would get the NOTE 5...it's the same device with bigger screen, better battery, and s pen....that's the only reason....and the ram is always between 70-80% so it's better than 5.0.2.....and i won't call the phone laggy...sometimes it stutters but it doesn't lag, most of the time everything opens really fast.....battery is about the same as 5.0.2...3-4 SOT....

Overall speed

Would you say that the Samsung Galaxy S8 is "fast" in day-to-day use? A higher rating indicates that you think the Samsung Galaxy S8 exhibits fantastic performance. Like, is it as fast as your tears when you watch The Titanic?

Yeah why not, samsung Galaxy S8 has been outstanding, because this was the time for samsung to grape their consumers back since the incident happened with samsung galaxy note 7(mod edit) of BATTERY EXPLOSION, best of luck to galaxy s8 and s8+

I can say it, the phone is "fast", maybe not the fastest, but phone is fast, I've not used a galaxy series phone as my daily driver since Galaxy Note 2, however I've tested every Galaxy series phone, And with S8 plus finally I went back again to Galaxy series phone as my daily phone.. That's all I can say about it.

Coming from the S6, i can positively say that i have noticed an improved experience in terms of fluidity and multitasking. Really can't complain right now

Try setting your performance mode to game mode and the phone seems to be smoother and faster. Not sure if it's just a placebo effect though.

I can agree on this. I have been using iPhone 3 years now and finally i came back to samsung android camp with release of s8+.
It's fast but it ain't so smooth than i expected it to be. I mean for time to time when i use multiple apps at the sametime, it stutters and keyboard lags time to time too.
Otherwise it's really good.

Slows down a lot after some months. camera starts slow and is not reliable. RAM Management is ****ty for a flagship.

Same her. The slowest device i own.

Got to say I've only been using this phone for just over 1 week and the last few days it's started lagging already, which is a real surprise imo, had an S7 edge a year ago and it wasn't like this.
However after finding this thread I checked my mode and it was set to optimised mode, so set it to performance mode and will see how it goes.

thanks, tried that already but it did nothing. only thing what helped was a full wipe. for now it's much faster ( i asume for a month or so) but still lags more than my old 6P. Let's see if it will improve when they update it to android 8 next march.

Bought less than a week ago, previous phone OnePlus3 - used for a year.
OnePlus 3 became slower than when i just bought it after a year because of all the stuff installed etc, obviously.
So this phone i have now(s8) - feels about the speed of OP3(after a year, not new) - and often times even slower.
Really disappointed.
I factory reset my OP3 to sell it, it feels like a lightning compared to s8.
I am afraid to think how this thing will work after few months...
Yes ok great display(feels smaller than OP3 though because of weird aspect ration, also more comfortable in hand, to be honest, but smaller)
Yes very good camera(reviews say, tried to take few pics yesterday, didn't see any noticeable difference to be honest, but ok may be i dont know how to shoot).
But except for that dont feel like it justifies the price.
The fingerprint sensor is amazingly crappy after OP3(again we are talking a 1.5 generation older chinese phone!!!)
I am really afraid after few months it will go real slow.
The only good thing since its galaxy i believe it d be easier to sell if want to later, compared to OP5 which would come way cheaper if i chose it.
I ll give it some more time, if i feel like its getting even slower i ll sell it and buy an OP5.
Honestly though, for that price they should be ashamed at Samsung for selling a phone that cheaper chinese brands easily outperform it.

I've been using my phone in "High-Performance" mode for a week now and so far so good, even though I've since found out that there is no boost from the CPU in this mode it seems much more fluid compared to the "Optimised mode".

Not fast. it lags and stutters and isn't smooth but it's ok! I think I can kinda live with it?!

The problem with this thread is that not everyone who is complaining bought the phone. Some just hate Samsung, some just write based on what they read on the internet.
Its a shame XDA has so many trolls atm.

Lol 6p was the laggiest garbage phone I've ever owned

I kicked myself for not jumping on to the Verizon 50% off deal on the Google Pixel 2. This Samsung S8 blows, it lags way too much after some use i have to close all the apps (at times not that many are running) or just restart the phone. I would have assumed for a flagship phone this would be a lot faster. I'll have to wait for another deal before I toss this phone and get a Pixel 2.

I would give a "quickness" rating of 3/5 if I consider the performances of the phone out of the box. I mean it's ok, but can get messy.

Switch from Pixel 2 XL

Hey guys I'm thinking of switching from the Pixel 2 XL to the OnePlus 6.
Some of the reasons I'm thinking of switching is that I miss having the headphone jack. It's gotten quite annoying not having it. I don't take many pictures, so I'm not too concerned with the camera downgrade. Price is definitely a big deal. I can sell my Pixel on Swappa and essentially break even. If I wait til the Pixel 3 and trade mine in, I still have to come up with 300-400 to upgrade. If I switch the the OnePlus 6, I'm getting the latest specs, extra RAM at pretty much no cost.
What do you guys think? Wanna help me decide?

I came from the HTC U Ultra, and for me atleast the One Plus turned out to be a really good investment. I also switched in part to the Headphone jack, and extra RAM. I do like he the phone so far, and found the camera to be on par with my HTC phone if not a bit better. The only complaint I have is I find the speaker , and vibration quite weak as compared to my HTC. In the end, the specs are quite good for the price

I've been a 2XL owner since January and I just bought the 6.
The 6 has a much worse vibration motor than the 2XL; to me at least, it is a huge difference and I really dislike the feel of the motor on the 6.
Colours/screen however, looks better to me on the 6, despite having a lower resolution - colours are more vibrant and no screen issues that many users report on the 2XL.
Performance is better on the 6 and that is a bit obvious I know, but I was shocked at the difference - it's actually noticable! Apps launch insanely fast while the 2XL is still stuck on that same app's splash screen.
The camera is not great at all in my opinion (on the 6). I could even go as far as saying it's slightly below average. Maybe it's because the Pixel's camera has spoiled me. You mentioned this isn't an important thing to you so you should be fine in this department.
I have all Bluetooth accessories, including headphones, so a headphone jack isn't necessary for me, but for your needs, it seems like another plus! (No pun intended lol).
Not sure if custom development (ROMs, kernels, etc.) are important, but OnePlus should have a lot more of that than the Pixels.
And finally, the biggest "feature" is the price - OnePlus is the clear winner here as well (especially for what you get in return).

I'll never keep one plus 6 as my primary device cos I'm into photography. The only reason I have this for dash charging and dual SIM. Also I'm a digital nomad and I carry multiple devices. I retired my LG G4 which was an excellent shooter and was my back up device, now that's been replaced with one plus 6.
The extra specs and Ram doesn't really scream performance when you pit it against pixel 2 XL. One plus reduces all the animations to make the device faster but it doesn't have a very noticeable performance than my pixel.
I'm not bothered with the notch.
If you have the budget do both and you'll be happy. Else get this device and play around with both and sell what you think doesn't work for you.
My pixel is very dear to me so I would never think of replacing it with any other device. Also with one plus you lose the water proof thinge!!

I can see how the speaker and vibration could be bothersome. I love my Pixel 2 XL speakers, but I don't get to use them much because I'm at work or out a lot, and headphones would definitely come in handy. I have some Bluetooth headphones, but I have a lot more regular headphones that I have in my backpack, laying around at work, etc. It definitely seems worth the price!

It definitely helps! I've seen plenty of reviews where the reviewers say that the Pixel is faster. I'm not saying mine is slow, but it definitely hangs on some apps and I just have a hard time believing that the newest processor plus more ram isn't going to be faster than last years with less ram.
You've made great points, I hadn't thought about the screen. I definitely could see how the OnePlus 6 has a better screen! Thanks for your input, it's definitely been helpful

I love my Pixel, and I think I'll want the Pixel 3 when it comes out. But price wise for now, it's either sticking with the Pixel 2 XL or going to the OnePlus 6 for a wash. But I hadn't thought using both to see which I like better. I guess I could always return it within the 15 days if I don't like it right?

I sold my 2 XL a couple of weeks ago in anticipation of the OnePlus 6. I loved my 2 XL but personally found it just slightly too tall and I just couldn't get used to the screen. Even with "Boosted" and "Saturated" color calibrations the 2 XL screen paled in comparison with my wife's Galaxy S9 and my iPhone X (for work).
As for the camera, the 2 XL notably outshines the iPhone X in almost all conditions. Surprisingly, the pictures from my OnePlus 6 really are not that far off from my 2 XL. The OP6 still outperforms the iPhone X camera with much more clear and color accurate photos.
I loved my 2 XL, overall. But the iPhone X really showed me what a well designed bezel-less phone should be. The OP6 is Android's best alternative to that, IMO. The notch never bothered me on my iPhone and it doesn't bother me on my OP6. I'd make the same switch again in a heartbeat. And the best part is that I sold my 2 XL on Swappa for $710. This allowed me to pickup the OP6 (8GB / 128GB), the Nylon Bumper Case + screen protector and still pocket nearly $100.

I have both and agree with everything you've said. My biggest disappointment with the OnePlus 6 is the speaker. It's awful. I don't know if I'm going to keep the OnePlus 6. It is substantially faster than the Pixel.

Switch. I had the 2 XL, S9+, 5T before this. Camera is good but nowhere near the Pixel (neither are the S9+ or 5T), but if that's not your primary focus you'll be happy with the 6 until the Pixel 3 comes out. You'll probably have better resell value than your 2 XL too.

I am so torn. I have both phones and have about another week to decide if I'm keeping the OnePlus 6. Even though I have cases on both I just saw this guy who did a drop test and completely shattered the OP6.
Sound on Pixel 2 much better. Speed on OnePlus better.
So difficult to choose. Any ideas?

People are down playing how bad the camera is. It's 2x worst vs most of phones listed above. Software hopefully will help it.
Speaker is not great for occasional usage. Few things missing in software.
Luckily OnePlus holds there value. especially next few weeks plus 15 return window to try out.
Phone is very fast and ultimately stock Android. Haven't had any issues with day to day usage. Think it's a decent upgrade till the pixel 3 comes out.

Don't choose the OP6 over the 2XL. It's a big downgrade, from the camera to the screen resolution to the terrible speaker to the vibration motor.

I love the screen, the speed is unmatched, and the form factor is more pleasant to hold. Also a big fan of the nav system in Oxygen OS.

I disagree that it's 2x worst most phones. It's not even 2x worse than most flagships. I've seen several pics where it outshines the iPhone x or s9. The problem, in my eyes, is consistency. I'll take 4 pics and get 4 different results. 3 of them will be over-sharpened so much there is noticeable halos if you zoom in, etc. But it *can* take good pics, which leads me to believe with software (or Gcam!!!), we'll be money.
Also, the video is above average for sure. Once they get the focus hunting dealt with that is.

I completely agree with you about the speed and form factor. My biggest hesitation is the speaker and volume.
I've heard conflicting things about whether it can be improved with a software patch or if we're stuck with a hardware problem.

I don't use the phone as a loud speaker, I have Google home devices as well as Bluetooth speakers. That said it's plenty loud enough for me to play games or watch videos.

Google and Pixel

Hi guys just my 2 cent on an article I've read this morning. Google says pixels smartphones don't sell that much. Well they lost another long time consumer here. I recently switched to an S10+ because the problems the pixel 3xl has. I still own a nexus 4/5/6p and a Pixel 2xl and 3xl, nearly 6 years of Google smartphone/software and they always didn't really care about our community, sending bug reports and problems that had no response of course. The last thing that made me switch is the careless they are giving to us on the microphones issues with the pixel 3.
Google should think about that, camera isn't the only important thing in a smartphone, assistance is aswell and Google gives no support at all. I'm not going back to Pixel smartphones anymore, it's been a long and fun run but I'm really tired of having top paid smartphones for 4gb of ram and a phone that you can't phone with. It's a shame. Wake up Google! It's your fault!

Interesting. I am on the opposite side of the fence. After having had practically every generation of Samsung Note that ever came out, I feel the complete opposite, and I'm not going back. I feel like Samsung doesn't care about is customers. While Samsung's phones have a more "finished look", it is my experience that their issues take way longer to resolve than on a Pixel which gets monthly updates on the 1st Monday of every month. My Pixel 3Xl phone has been the best phone I've ever had. It runs smooth as butter and I've never had any of the issues some claim to have had with the rare exception of an occasional call where the caller cannot hear me, but I hear them. My speakers sound great, my Bluetooth works wonderfully with all devices and the phone is very responsive. I'm rooted and enjoying the benefits of systemwide add blocker, Titanium backup, viper and 3minit battery mod (all of which are practically impossible in today's Samsung devices). Good luck on your locked down device. Samsung makes great screens but software wise, I find my phones became useless after 6 months due to mysteriously showing down. My Pixel is the first phone I've owned that still works as smooth as day one (even with it's surprising 4 GB of RAM). My Note 8 sits on a drawer collecting dust because it became unbearably slow after the last update, and the battery lasted less than my Pixel's. Don't get me wrong, I love Sammy devices. Just can't deal with the slow updates and the 7-8 month delay in bringing the new OS features to their devices.

At least on Samsung phone you don't get buggy software at launch. Pixel became the testing device for new Google operating system and I can't live with this anymore. If you just recently switched to Pixel line bro wait a bit and you'll get burned by Google. The history of problems is long on nexus/Pixel devices. Don't get me wrong, still using pixel 3xl sometimes mostly to take pics, I just dismissed it as phone for work. It's totally unreliable... A phone that can't phone lol

I've never had any big problems with either Pixel I've owned (2xl & 3xl). The phone has never been an issue. The main one for me was bluetooth. It cutout on my 2, and on my 3, while that stopped, I had to adjust the codec manually to show the track info in my SUV. However, that is not a big problem for me. It would be for people who don't know how to do such a thing though.
Anyway, I love the pixel line. I would *possibly* jump on an essential phone 2, or maybe something like one plus if they started doing at release updates. Outside of that, nope. Samsung can suck it as far as I'm concerned. I've had four of their phones. The last was an S7 edge. I loved it at first, but, like MANY other people on these boards and that I know personally (not to mention several articles about this), the phone mysteriously slowed down around the next phone launch. Mine was so bad I thought the phone had crapped out. So, I got a warranty replacement. After an update it was the same. Nearly unusable. And you talk about updates, my S7 got the next OS about 7 months after release. There were problems that took 3+ months for Sammy to fix. Sooo, I wouldn't say they're better at that by any means. I guess maybe they could have gotten better?
The pixel 3xl has a Samsung display, and it looks amazing. The camera was the best until the S10 and the P30 (think the last one is right). I'm sure the 4's will destroy that again. I get monthly updates, the phone looks and feels great, and it runs perfectly. Zero lag. Unlike every Samsung I've ever owned. Also, I was on the P beta last year from DP2 on, no problems. This year I'm on the Q beta from DP1, no problems. I think Google does a pretty good job for hardware being one of their less important to them things.
But, to each their own.

Amen bro. I couldn't have said it better. I feel the exact same way. Samsung's software is crap and like you say... It"mysteriously slows down the phone" by the time a new one is coming out. At least with the Pixel, this isn't the case so far.

I haven't gone back to Samsung since experiencing the s6 and s7 edge. Horrible battery life and both launched buggy as hell. I'm sure it's better now, but, having a locked boot loader would be no fun for me.

I forgot about battery life. My S7 edge battery was horrible at first. I would take it off the charger at 6:30-ish, and by 5 or so it was pretty much dead. Seriously, not even 12 hours. I spent some time looking at and tweaking settings, and others did too so we shared what worked. After making a lot of changes I was able to get to about 9 or 10 in the evening before it died. It's pretty bad when a phone gets less than a day of battery life right out of the box, but under 12 or so hours is just sad.
My $0.02 is that most of these guys that jump ship to Samsung or LG or whatever will be wishing they hadn't. Probably come back to a Pixel or One+ or something too even.

I guess i can agree with everyone's a opinion good and bad but it's simple for me why i stay with Google phones just mainly because i want the latest and greatest from Android right from the jump! Lol It's our iPhones but not actually iPhones lol

My nexus 6p the four big cores are turned off to let the system boot. It's the famous bootloop of dead.
My pixel 2xl doesn't charge sometimes, you have to reboot it to let it charge.
The pixel 3xl screen is not half as beautiful as my S10+ screen. The battery sucks on the pixel 3xl too. This phone has serious problems with call that for a piace of technology lime this is really a shame.

There is a 68-70 page thread w/ 600~ posts on the issue tracker #124412355 that applies to the 3 and 3 XL. Multiple people are having issues with phone call quality and Google hasn't responded or given any indication they're trying to come up with a solution. Some have resolved it with guitartuna after giving it microphone permissions and now people can hear them on phone calls w/o cutting out. Others turn off advanced calling features in areas with poor signal and that does the trick for them. The 3 and 3XL both are a train wreck for the price Google is asking. But despite the issues and the questionable design it's one of the best stocking offerings at this time.

Who are you to send people to another thread? "Unreliable devices"??? You've got to be kidding. You are a Samsung fan boy who selectively forgets things. Let's take a little trip down memory lane. Perhaps you need to be reminded of the exploding Note7 fiasco????? Talk about unreliable and dangerous! A phone that explodes in your pocket. My Note 4 became useless after it's last update. It would not even boot unless you would freeze it in the freezer. There are tons of pages explaining that problem also on XDA. Both my S7 edge and my Note 8 are also practicality unusable and collecting dust due to how slow they mysteriously got after updates. My Note 8 would freeze every time I took a picture also and if its battery reached zero it would brick the phone. Look at forums exchanging this problem. My S9+ had endless display issues and leaked light through it's side. Samsung's latest scandal is the new Fold $2000 phone cracking screen and stopping working after only a few days. Please let's be real! Samsung has had more crappy phones that malfunctioned than any other company. Their software sucks too and it's filled with bloatware. Phones are pieces of technology that regardless who makes them can work incorrectly. You are blinded by your preference to Samsung phones and are extremely biased towards them in your comments. Good luck with your bootloader- locked down and unrootable Samsung phone which will take 7-8 months to be updated to new OS releases. It won't save you from an unreliable phone and it's certainly far from perfection.

Paid less for the S10+ than for my 3xl if you want to know, nearly 200€.
For the other Samsung phones I don't know and I don't care anyway, I had a Google device during that time :good:
After the Pixel 3xl experience, I'm tired of stock Android and Google in general. I'm not saying That Google is bad Samsung is good. I'm just saying that the S10+ is better than 3xl in anyway except the camera maybe... You're right maybe I'll choose 1+ after that

to be fair
pixel phones hardly give us latest and greatest, they are roughly released 5 months after the competition, and our 3 is abysmal with 4GB ram when others are offering 6GB for a base and 12GB for a pro variant just to name one drawback

12gb are completely useless and waste of money on that. 6gb max are enough. Proper memory management and you're good to go.
4gb are even enough , but google failed the memory management on it slightly (look at essential and HTC u11, 4gb RAM but management is like a beast).

I have a op6t and I can leave a tons of apps open without redraws
Ultimately that's what we want.
And more ram = More opened apps in memory
I have the 8gb variant and constantly find myself using 6-7GB ram

A bit dramatic with this response here. I have had the Nexus and Pixel series and the biggest misconception is that of unreliability on Google phones. Google phones are just as equally unreliable and reliable as others phones. I have the Pixel 3xl and with due respect that is a great piece work. It has it's quirks, yes I agree, like the big notch and the chin which could be smaller but I can assure you this is a premium device. No wonder it scores on top on many aspects. Let's speak objectively.....put emotions aside!

A potential replacement phone

Good Morning all,
Hopefully ive placed this question in the right location. I`ve been a avid user of the Google Pixel 3 XL for several years now having moved from the Samsung Note 8. I`ve recently had the opportunity to move over to a Samsung Note 10 + Exynos (Australia) and started the Smart Switch copy process as a test before possibly moving over to the device as a daily driver. Upon completing the copy process and testing Samsungs OneUi for a few hours i found myself installing Nova and finding a user created Pixel Nova backup and trying to make the Note10 looks as identical to the Pixel 3 as i could. Previously on i think it was Oreo on the Note8 i just used the device but this Samsung OneUi i dont like at all. I find that the Ui just isnt what up to my personal liking. In saying that when an alternative launcher like Nova is used i lose access to swipe gestures as part of Android10 which ive become accustomed to on my Pixel3. The reason im on the fence is as part of my job im required a times to be onsite at other locations for work consistently on the phone for my 8 -10 hour shift depending on the work where i have noticed the Pixel3 battery just cant cope with my day to day demands without me need to hook up a battery backup to charge the device.
I guess i just am trying to weigh up the pros and cons. From what ive seen the Note10+ has a huge power gain and battery life and performance than the Pixel3 but then Samsung from past experience take quite a long time to release Os and security updates whereas the pixel3 gets them when they are released.
I love that the pixel doesnt come with any bloatware and also prefer the google messages and phone app over Samsungs as i can hook connect message to my work WebGUI while im at my desk which makes it easier to respond to text`s in my work day, Also the Pixel3 camera is amazing and appears to trump the Note10+ for taking photos which i do a lot of for work and personal. Also the Pixel3 fingerprint reader is so much more faster than the ultrasonic in the Note10.
I`ve become so dependent on the google suite of apps referring to Google Phone,Messages,Photos,Calendar,Gmail,Chrome,Assistant,AOD & Home Screen widget to name a few.
As stupid as i sounds i`m trying to find some justifiable reason to move to the Note10 over the Pixel outside of the battery capacity between the 2 as well as the cameras.
Does anyone have any input on how the Note10+ would benefit me over the Pixel3?

Hi,
I totally understand you, Google delivers, in my opinion, the best User Experience. Despite its devices not being racecars, we still want to buy them for the UI.
Here are all the pros for the Note 10+:
Better CPU, more RAM ---> Smoother experience
More storage, faster (UFS 3.0) ---> Fast file transfer+ no struggles with pics
Quick Charge ---> Phone Charge faster
In display fingerprint ---> Best thing
Gorilla glass 6 (vs 5 for the Pixel)
Plus you get a freaking stylus man!
So the overall experience will most likely be better, smoother and faster (for charging, gaming, taking photos and storing them)
Also, try to see if you can get a OnePlus phone. It has all the pros mentioned above plus it has almost no bloatware (only uninstallable preinstalled apps like FB or Netflix) and the UI is close to stock. You get also a lot of customization.
But to me, the Pixel UI is above OxygenOS (OnePlus UI)

Well i took the plunge for a month and have moved back to the Pixel 3 XL. The Note 10+ itself is aesthetically pleasing to hold and touch. But there`s just something about the Samsung experience that irks me the wrong way. The biggest issue i had was the under screen fingerprint reader, It was IMO the worst experience, 9 out 10 times not working at all requiring me to use my pin code to unlock the phone. I recorded my fingerprints in all different angles to cover everything but more often that not it just didnt work. Samsung Dex was ok but certainly no where near a usable point. Running Windows 10 i can tie the My Phone app straight into the Pixel/Samsung and it worked well, even with the latest update. I never once used the stylus for what it could be used for, only a few times using it for the wireless photo taking. The camera on the Samsung is ok but no where near where the Pixel camera. The Google default apps are for me a lot more user friendly than the Samsung one. Samsung's OneUI although aesthetically pleasing didn't cut it for me, oversized icons and restrictions in places i thought wouldn't be, it felt like i was using an Apple device at times. I needed to use OneUI due to gestures only working with OneUi and not an alternative launcher like Nova. Having the now playing on the lock screen is something i always used, As someone who loves music hearing something and then just looking at the Pixel and it showing what was playing was always a plus. The AOD on the Pixel was better with calendar entries showing up on AOD. Turning the Pixel over the mute was sorely missed especially when i could be working and avoiding phone distractions and just turn the phone over and not be annoyed. There`s so many more things i could report on and im not bagging out the Note10+. Just come to the conclusion that having a Note8 then Pixel 3 XL and moving to the Note10+ that there`s just too many things on the Pixel that are sorely missed and i had to revert.
The biggest issue on the Pixel is the abysmal battery and how long it lasts and it`s something i`ll just have to deal with.

Nice to hear from you .
I'm sorry that you bought something that didn't pleased you. Some people aren't bothered at all by all the restrictions and all the stuff you said above, but IMO you made the right decision. Samsung are all about making you buy, from the in-OS ads to the short support (which has been a bit lengthened recently). But I think once you get a taste of what Google has to offer with its own OS, you can't get back to the previous experience and don't feel a downgrade.
It's all specs and power now, but I think that if UI, support and features aren't here, your phone won't be good. If I knew that the Pixel 5 would have a battery this large (rumored at 4000 mhA), I would've waited before buying my OP8.
I hope you still enjoy your Pixel 3 tho, and I hope it will last
