As an Linux(Arch) user , It sometimes gets to tedious to get MTP working with newer and custom optimized kernels .So I want back USB mass storage feature. The main reason is that my TV don't support MTP. I used to watch movies and videos from my old android device via USB mass storage on my TV but can't do that with MTP anymore. I am also ready root my phone or install custom ram.
I am using Samsung Galaxy J4 (SM-J400F/DS) and I don't have any Windows PC or Mac

I want to move a 10GB file to my computer from another one, but I don't have a pen drive or external HD around... I used to install the USB drivers on my computer, and plugged my tablet into my computer's USB port, it worked like a charm but since I upgraded to JB the drivers are useless now, what do I do?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using xda app-developers app
You need to buy a USB pen drive or an external HD, or a network cable. The tablet cannot be mounted as USB mass storage device because that mode would need to give full control over the internal storage to the computer, i.e. Android could not run at the same time.
It still works fine I copy large files all the time. Just make sure you have the latest SDK from Google installed and you should get the latest USB drivers then you can use it like a pen drive again.

As USB mass storage? I don't think so - which filesystem should be unmounted here?. Otherwise please explain in detail how. And if you mean only as MTP device, how do you transfer files > 2 GB?
Ah right yes not as a mass storage device. I never tried anything over about a gig so never thought about that.
Since JB, only MTP(Media Device) and PTP (Camera) protocols are supported. The MTP protocol is achingly slow, not just on the TF700. My SGS3 (supposedly 'faster than the tf700') is equally slow in terms of USB transfer.
I agree that it used to work as a regular Mass Storage Device before JellyBean. Mine always showed up as F:\Asus TF700T. Updated to JB and to my great annoyance, only MTP. (PTP is pointless.)
ICS with Regular took 30 seconds to copy 600MB. JB's MTP requires 5 minutes! On both of my devices.
As for it not showing up, it's not in the list of drives. It should show up below everything else, without a drive letter(!). For me it's below Control Panel and above Shared Documents. (WinXP)
Did you, by any chance, kill the wufdhost.exe process in taskmanager's processes tab? You see, I did. And not a single MTP device would be recognised afterwards. It should A, running in Taskmanager, B, be in C:\WINDOWS\system32 and C, as 'Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework' in services.exe.

This is supposed to enable usb mass storage mode so, you know, actual devices will actually recognize my phone. But it is making my phone appear as a cd-rom drive on windows 7.
Edit; OK, so it seems this app wasn't made for my phone really and other people have confirmed it won't work with the victory. So is there anything that will work with the victory?
I have, successfuly, upgraded my Samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 tablet to Marshmallows. BUT it seems that I have lost the communication facilities with the W10 PC. A unit correctly labelled GT-5110 appears (icon looking like a music unit) but the folder is empty (should contain an internal and an sdcard1 reference). Loading Kies which should supply the driver does not help. USB has been set to MTP on the tablet but Samsung MTP driver available in W10 does not work. I have also enabled Android debugging (ADB) in the tablet with no difference. Tablet or PC problems?
Hi,
Does anyone know of a way to enable usb mass storage device mode on the S8+. I want to connect it to my car via usb but it doesn't let me. I have read that I need to connect it as a mass storage device however all the apps that say they can do this say that they can't find my 'lun' file. I can connect it via aux but then I can't control the music with the pause buttons etc. Bluetooth isn't an option as my car doesn't have it.
up for this
MTP all the way
Maybe the issue is not with your S8, but with your car's USB. Try both these steps to isolate the issue:
1. Connect your S8 to a laptop to check if you can enable mass storage.
2. Connect another phone to your car's USB to see if it allows and recognized the mass storage setting.
3. Try to connect your S8 to another car and see if the mass storage can be used.

That is not a issue with the car USB... That kind of radio only support universal mass storage devices, the old andorid devices, android 5 and below, could be mounted as a UMS device, so the radio would be able to play it's audio files. Now android devices can only be mounted as MTP, so it doesnt works. One thing that you can do is root your phone and use some UMS enabler app.
Guys, can I access my storage from recovery mode?
I cant unlock my phone and need to get data from storage.
Is there a mass storage option, like old times?
Thx
I have experienced issues with MTP (media transfer protocol) for over a year now.. I cannot connect my S7 to my pc using mtp, as there is no mtp option avaible when usb is connected and sliding down the drop down menu, selecting the usb options..
I've tried everything, different usb cables, different computers, laptops, different usb ports, calling *#0808# to make sure my connection is set to MTP + ADP, unlocking developer and selecting MTP from usb developer settings, nothing, nothing works, and I'm getting really really frustrated with it...
Yes I have Samsung Smart View installed, but no reaction when i plug in usb.
So again, there is no MTP option for me to connect my device to my pc in order to transfer files.
The ones I do have in the menu: transfer files, transfer images, midi connection, charge phone.
Also after I connected the usb to my phone, I get a pop up on my phone screen saying: "the connected device has no acces to data on this device, try reconnect the usb cable en try again."
Any ideas? Been looking for anwsers for a while now...
Regards
Do you have any package disabler apps running, if you do make sure no MTP apps are disabled.
Also make sure your PC has Samsung USB driver installed.

I do have some apps disabeled, tho I don't think I've disabled an app that causes the issue with MTP..
What is disabled?
Briefing
Excel
Facebook
Google Drive
Google Play Films
Google Play Music
Hangouts
One Drive
PowerPoint
Samsung Gear
Samsung Health
Skype
I disabled those cause I don't really have a usecase for them

Thanks for linking me this! I do have a compatible S7 model,
But I guess I forgot to mention that my phone also does not read any sd card anymore.. And the whole reason I want MTP to work is so I can transfer all my files to my pc, in order to do a proper factory wipe and reset everything, so I can begin again with a clean install.
Thus making your tutorioul not really usefull here since I'm loosing all my data with the update..
