Wireless charging - Huawei P20 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I added wireless charging to my P20 by adding a thin charging pad to the back of the phone and connecting
it to the USB-C port. All seems to be fine but I have an odd issue when I charge the phone. When the power
hits 100% the phone beeps and turns on. Depending on the wireless charger I use this repeats after a few
minutes which is really annoying especially at night. Does anybody know how to stop this.

Which charging pad and station you bought?

I am using this receiver https://smile.amazon.de/gp/product/B075L748MN/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and different charges for example a stand from Anker.

It's because the phone disconnect and connects itself everytime..
Looks like a quality issue of the pad for me
On Amazon more people complain about this problem

Power plug charging sometimes

I have a power plug and sometimes charges and sometimes don't. It also gets hot after about 10mins of charge but it is charging.
I know there has been a few faults but has anyone experienced this charging sometimes and hot to the touch?
The charger getting hot is a good sign; that shows that it is working. The charger will get (very) hot during charging and will cool off when it is done charging.
My recommendation to fix the sometimes charging/sometimes not charging problem is to pull the cord out of the plug unit and plug them back together. The cord is a little finicky and so it might need to be reseated. Make sure the cord is plugged ALL the way into the plug unit (it can be a little hard to get them to be perfectly together).

I have called Asus on this issue and while they agreed to RMA the charger I just can't be without it right now so i wait. Chargers getting warm are normal, but chargers getting as hot as mine does is not normal and not good. I would estimate this charger is getting in the 160-180 degree range. Mine has also failed to charge on one occasion. One post i ran across said to change the polarity of the charger by turning it over so that the word ASUS is upside down when the viewing the outlet with the ground pin below the prongs. Seemed to help but not sure if its actually better or just wishful thinking, ymmv.

Turning the charger over does not effect the heating of the charger, it simply eliminates the possibility of stray AC voltage on the shield of the cable and frame of the TF. The heating of the charger is caused by inefficiencies in the inexpensive charger and fact that it appears to be working close to its design limit. A few tips that have worked for me.
Use an outlet that good air circulation around it.
If used on an extension cord. sit on a heat conductive surface not on a carpet.
If tablet and dock are deeply discharged, charge separately and allow charger to cool between charge sessions.
If the charger gets too hot, it appears to shut off. Allowing it to cool generally gets it going again.
ASUS said i spoilt the power plug
sigh...i bought 2 units of EEE PAD **** TRANSFORMER...2 of the power plugs also loose...after 2 weeks of use...they said i spoilt the plugs and is not under warranty..i need to buy replacement...
how low quality is ASUS product or eee product...????

The charger and plug for the wall are a 2 piece unit. Ensure that that end that contains the wall prongs is seated all the way down. There is a line between the 2 units. The pieces on both sides of the line should be flush.
Regarding temperature, mine gets pretty warm. Warm enough that I would not want to handle it.

Qi Charging not working properly

my phone has since the last days problem with qi charging. it charges to about 90% and after several minutes it is like i disconnected the phone from the charger and putted it back on the charging pad. so it always makes these connection sound. but the phone lies still on the pad without being moved. charging the phone with a wire is working without problems.
that is really annoying. :/
looks like i have to factory reset it some time, as this isnt the only probleme (moto assist still not working too)
I was facing the same issue with Panasonic QE-TM101-K and the LG WCP-300 wireless chargers, but when I switched to the Incipio Ghost 100 my Maxx charged to a 100% normally without losing connection between the phone and the charger.
so you should switch to another charger.
which charger are you using?

I also had this problem when using my Incipio case on the phone, try removing the case if your phone has one, and try charging it without a case just to test.

Stock charger - charges slow and drops battery

Hello there,
I decided to open this thread as I've now had a bunch of issues with the stock charger that came with the device and it would be interesting to know if there's anyone else who's having this type of issues.
The exact issues that I've been having with the stock charger seems to be that the charger doesn't output enough of a amperage for the tablet to hold charge while in use, and even when it's not in use it takes almost 7-8 hours to charge from 50% up to 100%. It's as slow as if I would charge it from a regular USB port, if not, even slower and I don't really know why exactly this happens as it says that it's charging from AC adapter in settings.
To comfirm my issue was not related to the tablet itself, I used another charger that's rated at similar specs to the stock charger (2.1A) but with the same Micro-Usb cable that came with the tab. With that charger, it charged up from 50% extremely fast (around 1,5 hour) and I could even use the tablet while charging without any battery drops. So that comfirms two things, it's not related to the tablet or data cable but to the actual charger itself.
Anyone else that's been having this type of issues with the stock charger?
My tab needs max. about 3 hours to charge full and imo it's ok. Tried charging during Half Life2 gaming and can confirm that there's not a lot of charging going on, maybe 1or 2% in an hour. But that's ok for me, as long as it doesn't start to get emty while charging during gaming.
The charger is defective or don't bring enough power to the unit. I also get negative charge while playing high end games an also increase when i am, on Optimized mode. Many others has reported this situation on GeForce forums but nVidia is quiet about it.

I get negative charge even when doing basic tasks like listen to music or watch a video with the stock charger, so I guess my charger is faulty. I've already reported the issue to Amazon and they gave me a 50GBP partial refund (80 USD!) because of the faulty charger without having to ship anything back.
I just find it odd that theres many people that have the issue and nvidia doesn't seem to do anything about it either!

If i were you, i'll check with another charger doing normal stuff, if you still get negative charger maybe it could be your battery itself.

My guess is that a faulty cable or the charger itself is causing D+ and D- to not be shorted together by the charger, resulting in the tablet thinking it's charging from a USB port instead of a dedicated charger.
Does device status report charging state as Charging (USB) instead of Charging (AC)?
I admit I never even unwrapped the stock charger, I've got one of those nice Anker 40W 5-port chargers along with a bunch of 24/28AWG MicroUSB cables from Monoprice.

The charger appears as AC in settings, so it should be charging faster than it does.
I'm using a charger similar to what you use right now, a Dodocool 4 port charger that works great! However, I'm using the stock cable.
First make sure you are using stock charger and cable.
If you see discharge during non intensive activities you may have a defective charger. Nvidia has rma'd the charger by itself for people.
I have the same issue but my charging time is a bit better 3-4 hours. But what is really annoying that it makes a lot of electrical noise. I have a lot of things that I charge, but I have never heard this so load earlier. Its coming from the adapter, I can cleary hear from 3m. Anybody has similar issue? I try to record the sound, and send to nvidia. Maybe they will react.

I can confirm that this combo works a treat for my NST. I use it to simultaneously charge my G3, NST, N7 and some small LiPos. Fast charge.
Sorry to dig up this thread but I've had the same issue and i was WTF-ing like crazy until i switch the USB cable to a charging cable i got from a power bank... The charge time dropped from 6-7 hours to 2-3 hours. I'm not sure why, perhaps my cable is faulty or perhaps it was meant to charge like this, or perhaps it is supposed to be used to connect a controller only (both ends seem to have a controller icon on them)?

It's not due to the MicroUSB cable but due to a wallwart that's messing up the amperage I believe, as I've used the MicroUSB cable with other wallwarts and it charges normally then

You are correct. I charged the tablet at home 2 times this weekend and it's definitely an issue with the charger as it sometimes charges properly and sometimes it does not.

Get in touch with the retailer you got it from and ask for them to provide you with a proper charger, as a compensation

A bit hard to do since i got it from amazon.com when i was in the US (back in EU now) and there's no point in returning the tablet just for a semi faulty charger.

Contact amazon and tell them exactly about the issue, they'll compensate you for it probably. I got 50£ back from Amazon.co.uk for the broken charger, which is quite a bit of money.

Thanks for the tip, i'll give that a try
Well, same thing here. Just noticed it while using Skype. Battery dropped from 100% to 95% pretty quickly while charging.
I'm going to ask Amazon for another charger or compensation.
I have a 2.4A charger and still battery no good.
I lose around 2% per min of battery charge while idling with battery saving features on (2 cores shut off, CPU frequency set at 50% and Framerate locked at 30FPS) when ingame the battery drops 2-3 times faster. takes 2 hours to charge from 97% to 100% and 2 mins to lose that charge. I think I bought a Tablet that has a faulty battery as this is not acceptable. My tablet is unusable as the battery takes a couple of mins to lose 3% of charge and a couple of hours to regain the 3% charge only to lose that charge (and then some) when I try to use the tablet.

Wireless charging issues

Sometimes my Note8 does not charge on my Samsung fast wireless charger. No, this is not a position issue.. Sometimes, it just doesn't charge. The solid bluelight of the wireless charger although turns on. The only way for me to wireless charge again in this state is for me to reboot the phone.
Anyone else run onto this? Very annoying and it happens at random times.

I am surprised no one ran into this issue. The only thing I can think of that would cause this is some service I disabled.
I have the same issue and unfortunately have not figured it out. Mine will charge for about 10 seconds then will start blinking, I am using the dock fast charger from before the note 8 though not the newest one.

I had the same issue when trying to use the older wireless charging stand. I think it's a power issue because I tried an older iPad charging block (one of the bigger ones that has higher wattage or voltage or whatever) and it charged fine on the older stand. It didn't say it was fast charging but it did charge faster than average. I think I'll just stick to the newer charging base I got from the Note 8 promotion.
I had the same issue. I realized the case that i was using was the issue. Had to take it off to use the wireless charging.
I noticed the same thing recently. The wierd thing is, I also have the old original flat slow wireless charger and I use tha every night with a case, it just won't work on the fast dock one. Only without the case, or I think if i lay it sideways it works.

If it is not the case...
This issue has to do with power supply. Try different cables or wall plugs. I have had this issue in the past it could be sending too much or too little voltage. It blinks like that and turns off to protect your device from getting damaged.
I actually had to use an older wall plug to get my older wireless charging pad to work. The quick charge wall plug was pushing too much voltage.

if I remove the case it works perfectly. With the case its the 10 second deal; However, I took your advice and switched out the charging brick to another samsung fast charger ( all i have to test with at the moment) and it looks like it may work. I will see if I have a better one at home but it may just be with the case its having to emit more power like you mentioned. not sure but ill try that out for now.
I have three different but the same Samsung fast charger and I have issues on all three but at random times.. When it is not working, I just reboot my phone while on the charger and it starts charging again when Phone comes back up. I just dont get it.

Looks like a common issue where the old wireless charger (pre S8 ones) had problems. My fast wireless charger had no issues with the S7, just the Note 8.

Many users are facing this problem. While searching the web I found one user giving the best solution for this problem at Samsung community, He says that he has the same issue if the phone is standing straight up. However, when he put it on its side he never seems to have the problem.

Yeah. I saw that but its still not working correctly for me.
Anyone notice that it only charges when the screen is OFF?
I have this issue sometimes randomly on the new flat fast charger. Does this with my wifes S8 as well. My older standing type fastcharger that I got for my Note 5 works flawlessly. I feel like it's the flat fastcharger base itself.
Ummm... now this crazy phone is charging FLAWLESSLY. And I havent changed a thing...

Wireless charging constantly pauses

I just received and started using the RAM mount tough charge with X grip wireless charger that I use for a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. https://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-HOL-UN12WB
I use it to attach and use my phone on my wheelchair. The charger is connected to a regular USB port which draws power from the power wheelchair batteries. As I use my phone, the wireless charging constantly and randomly stops working and the phone keeps on popping up that the wireless charging is paused with the light of the charger going red but then several seconds later it will start working again and the light turns green. I don't know if it's related but I have noticed the phone does get hot while charging on this particular charger as I use the phone. I just recently received a notification saying it was paused because the phone got too hot. I also turned off the fast wireless charging setting on my phone. I haven't had the same issue or have the first day it got too hot with other wireless chargers using the same USB connection of the wheelchair and plugged into a regular wall outlet. Do you have any suggestion to fix this issue? Is there a possibility I have a defective unit? If you can't think of a fix, is there a way anybody has figured out how to disable the wireless charging paused and the wireless charging pop-up notifications? It is quite annoying because when it starts charging the notification takes up much of the screen in the center. Thanks in advance.
That is only 10W charger so it can't do quick charge.
But maybe there is defekt in the wireless charger. Also rare names usually is typical China product that isn't well known and usually are poorly made so problems like these may occur

It is actually a quite reputable company that makes lots of phone and tablet mounts. I will contact the company because it sounds like it could be a defective product. I was just seeing if anybody have ideas. It could be an overheating issue. As it charges, the temperature moves anywhere between 96 degrees Fahrenheit + 106 degrees Fahrenheit. Is that a normal temperature range?

I just looked up the information for the USB charging port adapter for the wheelchair. It says it can power up to 1.5A at 5V. Would there be an issue if the wireless charger is 10W?

There might be an issue. If the USB port can only supply 7.5W then it will be impossible for the wireless charger to send 10W to the phone. Subtract losses for wireless charging inefficiency and you'd be lucky to see even 5W arrive at the phone. Depending on how good the link is from charger to phone in terms of gap and alignment you might get even less.
It's not just you. Mine has been doing that the last couple weeks too. On an older samsung wireless charger.
Seems like it started after one of the software updates, but can't be positive.
I just installed the android 11 update and am going to see if that fixes it. My wireless charger is at work so can't try it out until tomorrow.
I will say the phone is very noticeably faster after the android 11 update.
