Please help !!! - General Questions and Answers

Good morning, in advance I thank you for any help you can give me.
I need help with my Htc One m9, just start shows me these 2 screens , the pc detects it but I can only use fastboot, adb does not allow me to use it.
I would really appreciate the help because I have no idea what to do to unlock the bootloader or download mode, and then find that RUU is the one that serves me and how to install, I really need my operating phone please! :llorando:

htc one s boots to logo then turns off - need to recover data

Hi, was advised to post here instead as my phone is in fact the HTC One S Model PJ40110.
The issue with the phone is that upon pressing the power button, the phone vibrates, the HTC logo comes on and after about 20 seconds just shuts off. I need to recover some data first, the data from the internal memory not the sd card.
The phone is S-ON
I can get into the hboot menus but not sure on how to proceed to be able to recover the data.
Fixing this for a friend, i dont believe she is capable of rooting.. etc not sure how the phone ended up this way.
Appreciate your guidance
Not sure why you want "the data from the internal memory not the sd card"
You could unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery and mount usb storage to copy the pictures and media.
For S4 version of HtC One S
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583427
After that you can run a RUU.exe to return to stock.
You will have to relock the bootloader
fastboot oem lock
Run the RUU when the phone is in bootloader.

Hi and thanks for the reply.
Basically I want to recover the contacts and any other personal data that was not on the sd card.
Will it be possible with this method or will it just bring the phone to life but wipe the data?

Yes, you are right. When you unlock the bootloader and press "yes" I believe it wipes your phone. Sorry, wasn't thinking about that.
Sorry, couldn't help. There may be some adb commands, to pull the data, but I don't know them.
Contacts would be saved via google though. So not to worry about that.
Is it possible to boot into recovery? Then you could use adb.
I could boot into hboot. Are you referring to that as recovery mode? would you have any steps on using adb for recovering data?
Im not well versed yet with the backend of the android platform.

Ive been reading some more on fastboot and tried to give it a go with a clockwork recovery img and "fastboot boot" command.
I get the following

Is this because S-On? Anyway around it?
What can adb do in regards to recovering data?
Thanks for your help thus far guys.

In hboot click on recovery.
With "adb shell" you should have access to the phone. With "adb pull <filename>" you can transfer files to your pc.
Don't know about contacts.

This is because the bootloader is locked. You could unlock it at http://www.htcdev.com/ but don't do that. It will erase the phone.
hi, thanks for the reply, i will work on setting this up.
question - how do i know the files names, is there a directory/file listing command so i see everything available that i can "pull"?
hi, so i got into hboot menu then clicked on recovery, waited for the red triangle and finally pressed volume up and power to pull up another menu consisting of the following:
Android system recovery ,3e.
...
reboot system now
apply from sd card
apply from phone storage
apply from cache
wipe data/factory
wipe cache partition
I understand this is the recovery section but when i connect my phone to the computer and run adb devices it shows blank. When i ran adb - s [serial number] shell i get error:device not found.
I did it a few times and one time i got
adb -s [serial] shell
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
error: device not found
How do i get it to find the device?

since you are relocked you are limited to fastboot commands
try this one
fastboot reboot bootloader
edit: by the way did you use any wipe option from TWRP ?

you shouldn't use any wipe option from twrp
your system and data partitoin are corrupted probably
also you are stuck in ruu mode
try to flash the ruu manually
see how it goes
otherwise your only option is the thread i gave you in my previous post
Thank you again
but Bootloader can't find PG58IMG.zip in my SD card how can I flash the RUU manually

any help bro ?
At first you said you have relocked your bootloader in order to flash the RUU.You have not S-OFF so you are forbidden to use the recovery right now and probably you are stuck in RUU mode.
As long as you have "relocked" status you could unlock your bootloader again by using the command
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
or by flashing the Unlock_code.bin again
Code:
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
After those steps you should have access to bootloader again and you should be able to use recovery to correct (the possibly corrupted) partitions by using the guide that gave you rzr86.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-sensation/help/recovering-data-mount-issues-t2859588
It's a painful proccess but it is the only solution I can think right now.
---------- Post added at 03:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:35 AM ----------
You could also check this guide out how to reformat a partition from recovery.(This guide is for HTC One and the /data partition number is probably not the same with the sensation /data partition number but I think it's a good start to read this solution)
---------- Post added at 04:06 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:53 AM ----------
If you have access to recovery you can use adb shell to give the command
Code:
cat /proc/emmc
so you can see the numbers for every partition in your device.
You can also check this guide out.

The first command doesn't always work but the unlocktoken should unlock your bootloader again.
If you use the command
Code:
fastboot reboot bootloader
after the flash of unlocktoken you should be able to see the bootloader on the next reboot.(If you can't just try to remove the battery for some time ,put it back in and press (power) + (vol-) to get the phone in bootloader mode.
Adb commands doesn't work on fastboot or RUU modes. You can only use adb by using a recovery with that capability or with a working rom.
Anyway...If nothing of them can help you you could try (by relocking your bootloader at first) to flash an extracted system.img from an RUU by using fastboot
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
You should better try to erase data and cache partitions before you reboot and see if you have a working ROM.
Code:
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot

As I saw in your first post here you are saying you have hboot 1.27 (probably from a command you gave in RUU mode)
Code:
fastboot getvar all
Now as I can see in the image your bootloader status seems to be 0.85 for the model ACE (HTC DESIRE HD).If this is an enginering HBOOT and you reverted to S-ON you probably breaked your device.I just don't get it!
HTC Desire HD HBOOT
HTC Sensation HBOOT
The sensation phones are PYRAMID models!
If it has to do with wrong flash you could try this guide.
But before you try anything give the command
Code:

one more time and copy-paste everything here.

If you cannot unlock your device from relocked status and you cannot flash anything to it I don't think I can help you further. You can always use varius tools like riffbox to repartition emmc chip or maybe to s-off your device (Too).

Can't flash any recovery to HTC One S

Hello.
I have been fighting very long time with this, I was digging through this forum and rest of the Internet for possible solutions and I'm stuck.
I am using Linux Mint 17.2.
I have HTC One S - probably s4 version - which does not boot into any system or recovery.
I am able to get to this point where I can see this menu:
- fastboot
- recovery
- factory reset
- clear storage
- simlock
- image crc
- show barcode
At the top of the screen I see the following info:

Every time I was trying to flash something new, I did the "factory reset" and "clear storage", so probably now there is no OS nor recovery (if I am wrong please explain, I want to know why I can't succeed).
I think I have the S4 version of the phone (ville). Anyway, I tried to flash recovery for S3 version as well.
After typing "sudo fastboot devices" in console I can see:
FA37KW401167 fastboot
The command "adb devices" does not bring any results.
I was trying to flash recovery with the command "sudo fastboot flash recovery <recovery.img>"
I have no idea what I am doing wrong. It seems I have unlocked bootloader, security turned off, even I have changed CID. Since I am on Linux and I can see fastboot device, it is not a driver issue (right?)
I can also give you the result of "sudo fastboot getvar all":

In fastboot mode, you can't see the device with adb, this is normal. From your getvar all, I understand that you have an S4/ville. Your radio version is not a recommended one but it should not be a problem.
When you say that you tried to flash recoveries, which ones did you actually use? From my tests, you should try the modified one from there: http://android.cmphys.com/twrp-ville/
2.8.6.5 is the best one and have a nice button in Wipe: Format Data. It can save wrong fstabs, symlinks and things like that.
Anyway, you should try an RUU to restore your system as new. As your CID is 1111111, you can put the generic european one (RUU_Ville_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_3.16.401.8_Radio_1.11.50.05.28_10.27.50.08L_release_301814_signed_2_4.exe on androidruu.com). As you're using Linux, the RUU .exe won't work, even in Wine. If you can't access a Windows computer, I can provide you a way that works well under any Linux.
I think I understand why I am not seeing anything in ADB - to see something there, I would need to have "USB debugging" option set in Android. And since there is no Android..
I tried with the following recoveries:
r2-modaco-recovery-clockwork-touch-ville
twrp-2.1.6-ville
recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.3.1-ville
recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.8-ville
recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.8-ville
twrp-2.8.7.0-ville
twrp-2.6.3.0-villec2
I have been rooting phones and flashing different OS previously (Galaxy Ace GT-S5830, Xperia Go ST27i), but I have never met "RUU". I saw some posts connected with HTC One S, but since I was not sure what it is, I was not trying to do anything there. This is sort of "stock-ROM-and-recovery-set"?
I have access to Windows 8.1, but I was using Linux to avoid driver issues. I will switch now to Windows and I will try the options you suggested. (as a Linux fan, I would also like to know how to manage this RUU on Linux, the more I can do on Linux the better )
An RUU is a program that will put your phone in a restore mode and push a big zip with almost every partitions. This is a big exe with a nice GUI, adb, fastboot and a ZIP.
From Linux it's running those commands :
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip <archive.zip>
fastboot reboot
Search XDA and you'll find better documentation.
Envoyé de mon HTC One S en utilisant Tapatalk
Thanks a lot for your help!
The recovery you recommended did not work, but the RUU did. I was not sure if I would know which zip file to use from my Linux, so I used the EXE on my Windows 8.1. Obviously I had driver issues - this fix solved them: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-s/general/guide-fix-fastboot-windows-8-1-t2858337
So now I have my HTC One S working like a charm. I am not sure what this RUU did - is the phone locked again? Or the security and CID were changed? I would like to install CyanogenMod there, and I hope I will not have any issues again.
Thousands of thanks once again!
No your phone is not locked and no the CID was unchanged. You should install a recovery (TWRP) and you can install CyanogenMod. Don't forget the Google Apps zip.

Read the Tuto word by word
1) first thing is to download twrp27-dlxu.imp
Requirement:
for x920e: To install this ROM on x920e you have to use my edited Kairi's TWRP 2.7.0.X recovery (DLXU recovery link).
link in tuto,
so what you do, boot in fastboot mod, and fastboot flash recovery recovry.img and reboot to fastboot mod
Tuto said
2) S-OFF users just flash ROM and you are OK.
S-ON users have to flash boot.img manually via fastboot after flashing ROM. (like your htc in S-On Mode)
The boot.img is inside a zip flash, extracte it and flash your htc wih this boot, and reboot to recovery mode TWRP27 this time
Tuto said
Procedure for S-ON users:
1. Go into recovery and do a backup
2. Follow this guide on flashing boot.img from ROM.zip :LINK or this video guide :Video LINK
3. After that go into recovery, flash ROM.zip from there, reboot and wait for ROM to boot
So The procedure is to flash a rom with TWRP27
you need to reboot to recovery mode, TWRP27, Select Advanced button,--> ADB Slideload
P.S, you need to use HTC Butterfly Toolkit, (Adb & Fastboot tools) link: i dont have a permission to post a link a this time, but search with google for ButterflyToolkitSetupV1.0.1.msi or later
When you select adb slideload in the Recovery, you must select in the PC with HTC Butterfly Toolkit, option 12 ) Slideload zip file "the rom must be in slideload directory of Htc B. Toolkit, rename it to zom.zip for simplify, with this tools, and this methode, you can't faill aftr a slideload operation the install lunched automaticly by the recovery programe, and just folow the instruction, sorry for my english, if you faill, let me know and i post you the install tuto with picture step by step
the slideload can take some times, be patient if the operation take a while, but after the and that's work

Temporary fix for the FastBoot loop problem: Search the HTC One X forums for "SOLVED: Stuck in fastboot with low battery. Use this BATCH file! by floepie" - all credit to floepie
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26212322
The script continually reboots your phone, which allows it to slowly charge (plug it directly into the motherboard, good USB cable, and non-essential USB peripherals unplugged for max amperage). Eventually it will boot normally, though in my experience, it's taken hours. Not sure if it's actually the battery charging or just random luck with the number of reboots. 80% battery and 4.1-4.2V might be the magic numbers. This probably won't work if you had a bad flash or other preexisting condition.
This ridiculous problem now happens to me every time my phone dies or I have to reboot it. I have the recommended TWRP, s-off, unlocked, no tampered message, etc but pressing recovery just reboots it into fastboot again. I'll probably try re-flashing stuff or just use this method until it's completely dead. Bought it in 2014 when it was >$200 unlocked but I excessively baby my devices; 3 years is good in cell phone years, but I was expecting more.
I really like this phone, but it's getting hard to love between this, the pink camera issues, and speakerphone problem with the older InsertCoin (my preference). Good size, snappy Sense interface, and decent battery life when used with a nice, slim kernel and rom.
Windows - Put the following into a .bat file in your adb directory:
Code:
@echo off
:start
fastboot getvar battery-voltage
fastboot reboot-bootloader
ping /n 6 localhost >nul
goto start
Linux/Mac - Put the following into a .sh file in your adb directory (untested):
Code:
#!/bin/sh
while true
do
./fastboot getvar battery-voltage
./fastboot reboot-bootloader
sleep 5
Edit: Latest numbers are 2 hours of rebooting to get to 4110mV / 82% reported battery (started sub 4V after a phone freeze/reboot)
