I hope I'm not breaking any forum rules. I was just wondering what everyone else prefers on their Note 3... Stock ROM with Xposed, or a custom ROM?
I have been using Slimkat on my Note 3 since I bought it. This week I might try out the stock ROM with Xposed to compare.

I prefer Stock ROM with Xposed.
I understand why others love custom ROM but I don't need it

yes also
Same here, mostly running alexandr's ROM with lean kernel. Works wonders. But I can't understand why people buy this phone and flash aosp roms that turn the spen into a simple stick.
one of android best features to me ... is having a custom rom
but lately they all feel like stock with exposed enabled .... im still searching for a good rom to use everyday
rooted X-Note 3 knox 0X0
Stock rom with xpose especially Wanamp:good:
Tested lots of ROMs, if not all, that are available for the Nope 3. AOSP, TW based...
Best look, performance & speed - AOSP cannot be beaten here. And even if some FCs happened until I setup an AOSP, after that there's no hiccups, even on nightlies. Fire up ART runtime, and the speed gets to disgusting levels, but it's like a car, the faster you go, the more likely the crash.
Pure stock TW is ugly as hell, but coming from Samsung themselves, it's stable and everything works. And there ARE people who use the S-Pen every day. o.o
Also, it's probably the fact that I can't properly set up the kernel on AOSP, because the ugly slow TW gets me more battery life than AOSP. And I go tinkering with the kernel, and USB stops working, FCs, and other s**t. :/ I need to learn more on the topic, probably...
Currently, using Audax ROM with stock kernel.
make my own custom since i don't really use some of the function avail on other custom.
i vote for custom rom
when i am in stock note 3 the ported s5 apps doesnt work thats why i chose s5 ported roms as the note 3 dont get s5 apps or even the s5 uI samsung fault they dont care about there fans new phone produce throw your phone away cause you well get worse update - as i know 4.3 was better than 4.4.2 / 1-call record working without root - 2- camera performance better - 3- white keyboard - 4-not draining battery fast and ... a lot of things i may forget it dont forget the last update which introduce knox 2.0 which make towel-root useless - so tell me reasons not be in custom rom or you just stock with useless phone / i just losing faith with samsung update cause i know every update are getting even worse
I like using stock-based custom ROM with Xposed.

Thank you for the subject.
Personally, I prefer Stock because it's official and custom rom does not give you a big advantage over the original with Xposed, except with the custom I can not activate screen mirroring.

Me too!
Really after 1 year of flashing more than 30 Custom ROM On my i9505 ,some based on the Stock and some based on the pure AOSP, I got nothing
All custom roms is just a vain and wasting of time
All the Custom ROMs have a bugs , problems , etc....
some make the device very hot , some make the battery fast drain , some make the device unstable , etc...
but with the Official rom , no problems , it's completed with no bugs , even with rooting
alot of devs make a roms whatever the rome base , but all with bugs , and when we ask the rom developer about the rom makes the battery drain faster he says : it will be fixed in the next rom update , and some says use UPSM to make the battery not drain fast , but why?
why I put my self in that situations as long as SAM maked everything be very good with it's Official ROM !!!!
really all the customs is very bad , and may the customs makes me able to use the other features like which in the S5 or Note 3 , but as I said all with bugs
I like the S5 Camera features and I tried it on mt i9505 but with bugs , where is eraser mod ? etc... the original S4 Camera app always can do the missions with perfect performance !!!
now I am on the official NE5 and received about 4 updates which made the device act as pro , so no need of anything else
and anyway S4 will not be something else whatever the features gained from the custom roms , S4 Camera will not be as 16 MP if I flash the phonex or imperium , S4 will not be as 3GB of RAM if I flash the rom with Note3 features
the conclusion : S4 will be S4 forever , the only way to make S4's Camera be like S5's Camera (I mean the app) is SAM Update with all the S5 Camera features and nothing else , and I think a lot of the pro devs after a years of developing some roms for i9505 is now using the official rom on their own devices because they sure that it's the right thing
thank you and again ****ck the Custom roms
I egree with OmarManLover after 2 years of flashing i am back on stock rom
Omg you're both so very wrong!
After my first year being rooted I went back to stock, lasted just under a day. Custom ROMs really do offer so much more and I for one appreciate all the hard work and hours the devs put in and will always continue to use custom ROMs.
I'd have to agree with UniqueFreak though, Custom ROMs make in to a completely different beast
Custom ROMs aren't for everyone. You have to have some patience to get it set up perfectly for your needs and taste, as well as be smart enough to learn how to take full advantage of all the additional features/tweakables.
I'm using stock google play edition ROM. I tried the latest stock samsung when I upgraded boot loader, modem etc.
It was laggy, UI feels like it's from 1998. Camera is great but gallery is really slow. I hate that you can't slide between tabs. Just feels cheap. Window animations and ui sounds are not my cup of tea.
GPE is optimized and has all the proper drivers so it runs smooth as silk. camera/audio quality is great. Only thing I miss from Samsung is the brightness slider in notifications.

The only additional features touch wiz has are gimmicky stuff. Aosp has the ability to add just about any useful feature your brain can think up through root apps or closed modules.
First , thank you all for your participation with my thread
I know that the Official stock rom miss some good features like the tools which works with an custom kernel like GoggyMax ,Talexop , etc ... which means that I cane control the CPU voltage , clocking , etc...
but may be I was wrong , really I miss a lot of things with the official rom like UPSM , download booster , Air Walkup , etc.... and may the rooted stock rom is not enough , I tried rooted i9505 with stock official with wanam xposed , complete action+ , Greenfly , etc .. but did not get the extreme performance like the imperium , phonex , etc...
and I was unfair when I said **** the custom roms because their is hard workers behind that custom roms working night and day and I now apologize to all of them , now I get back my word and whatever the official rom is stable or not , the devs is stronger than Sam and always beats the sam head
thanks for all the devs for giving us the new features from an devices which stronger than us , you are the MEN forever
thank you
Just came to the i9505 after more than two years on the i9300.
On the i9300 there was no denying it : nothing beats a clean optimized stock rom.
But here on the i9505, there is this marvel that is GPE. It's like the best of both worlds : AOSP performance with Samsung official stability and support. Actually GPE should be considered stock.
I agree with you about trying to turn GS4 into GS5, then Note3, then Note4 etc... But it's just a matter of what you expect from your phone : some people see it as a really fun tech accessory that they want to tweak and try all sort of gimmicks on, some other people see their phone as a reliable tool and need stability above all.
Pointless debating it. Custom vs Official is a purely personal choice. Each ROM has something to offer make your own choice and be happy with it. The most important thing is that we have a choice. Thank you Developers
I use the stock rom because i like the things easy with zero job out of the box, but sometimes i test some customs and are too good, i can use any as daily driver, sometimes i can see bugs or details i dont like but i think this is personal opinion and too much roms are work in progress what can you spect for nightlies or betas? A final result? Bah...
Thanks for all cookers too make awesome roms and kernels, without you i cant enjoy my old terminals, without you i cant extract the best juice from my devices.
Horrible thread, how can you feel as dev if you do all these work for free and read that things... Beh...

I tried stock touchwiz, tw-based rom, gpe, and cm. Ended up using cm11 for a good few mths now, and never looked elsewhere.
I like gpe too but cm11 has added much more features now, plus I can dirty flash updates. No need for backing up every time. Makes my snapdragon 600 cpu worthwhile.

What are you even doing here on XDA? Clearly it is not for you. You are just one of those new generation members that think this is some sort of servicedesk.
I don't know if you noticed but its XDA DEVELOPERS. That means developing. Developing means bugs. What did you expect? That if you use a ported S5 camera app that everything works? Because if you think that then you are just dumb.
There are so many custom roms. Some are almost bug free, some are experimental, some are heavily themed. The more modding the more bugs there will be. That you can't find a good stable rom says more about yourself then about the roms here. I am using stable customs roms with no bugs that I noticed.
So yes you should stay on the official roms and away from custom roms.

what is the Rom name which has no bugs and stable Sir ?
Hey guys, you who used stock 5.1 and custom ROMS that are having the latest Android version (5.1.1): what differences do you notice?
As we all know 5.1.1 is the latest version which fixes the memory leak, and Moto is still a version behind on 5.1.1: stock only is Android 5.1.
How would you compare stock to the latest Android version with the latest bugfixes and memory leak fix?
Would it be possible that Moto backported 5.1.1 fixes to stock 5.1?
Can a moderator edit "bases ROM's" to "5.1.1-based custom ROMS? I made a typo

It is more a question of CM12.1 vs Stock ROM.
With the Stock Motorola Lollipop you have (at least in theory) a bug free ROM, it will work in every situation and scenarios.
Where with a custom ROM you will have more experimental features, a more tunable kernel and settings (that can either improve or break a ROM) and, to be honest, more support as they update almost every week where Motorola go very slow.

Yeah that's true. I was just wondering if the 5.1 version still has the memory leak which was resolved in 5.1.1. Also, CM12 based roms don't support notification tickers anymore, not even through Xposed so that's a bit pity too. But they do have features you can't find in stock or Xposed.
Just wondering which ROM gives the best performance, CM12 or optimized stock or just plain AOSP without any tweaks.

I can't say if Motorola fix the Memory issue or not. I can say too that some CM12.1 ROMs did have memory issues even at 5.1.1 but i think all are gone now.
About performance, a custom ROM for sure will bring you that. I'm not a big fan of motorola "optimizations" for our devices, in fact i would say they don't do at all.
It all depends really, you could get stock 5.1 with moggy kernel v12 which is very smooth being a linaro based kernel with other optimizations as well. (I was running that earlier today)
But you could also get a custom ROM such as blisspop. Which is very very poorly developed on our device.
A ROM that the developer uses as a daily driver is likely to be better than stock. However you'll find ROMs such as BlissPop where the developer does not run the ROM on our device and merely syncs with latest sources and uploads the builds without testing them first.
Those ROMs are likely to provide worse performance and definitely less stability than stock. Unless of course you flash a custom kernel over it, but then you've just got a sugar coated turd. And nobody wants a turd.

YEs that is true, also there are some ROMs that are much more experimental then stable.
So a research would be need.
That being said, stock is always the safest bet but a nice custom ROM will be superior if he find one.
I'm personally very happy with Euphoria and the R35 version of the Optimus Kernel.
But you (@Sparubens ) would need to flash all the roms to find the one who fit you better, stock and non stock
It's worth considering the difference in Battery-life of Stock Firmware / ROMs in comparison to non-Stock custom ROMs. That could be an interesting thread.

I did flash almost every ROM here but there always seems to be an issue:
-CM12.1 is stable and fast, but doesn't have 4 tiles per row option in QS Settings and doesn't support notification ticker anymore (Xposed), SaberMod is smooth (Beeto) but there's a bug where you can't access SuperSU without dialing a code
- SlimROM wasn't a good experience when trying it to use as daily driver, sluggish and bad multitasking
- CM12.1 based ROMS like CrDroid and Euphoria I do really like, have some bugs like screen pinning causing reboot (CrDroid) and also no real Xposed support for CrDroid and Euphoria doesn't register all touches on the keyboard and makes my phone a bit hot, otherwise I would be very happy to have it as a daily driver, AICP was running okayish but there's been a bug for over a month that when opening the data quick menu, the percentage is misaligned, and it still hasn't been fixed.
- Stock 5.1 is nice, but it's a version behind 5.1.1 so that's not very nice either. Also heavily lacking in options, but I can use Xposed. Also there are 2 carrier labels on the lockscreen which makes no sense at all..
Also, in custom ROMS the torch doesn't seem to be functioning fully, the light density is not at it fullest. Sadly there seem to be some quirks with every ROM.
I'm ready to make compromises and have a ROM as daily driver which doesn't support notification ticker (basically all of them atm) but then there's also the torch issue sadly which pushes me more back to stock. But then again, nobody knows if stock still has the memory leak and opinions have been very different from person to person about stock 5.1.
Some interesting opinions over here, keep 'em coming!
@lost101 I personally think that there's no custom ROM that can match the battery life of stock, it has been impressive, surely on Lollipop.

That's why we have a lot of roms outthere, everyone can choose what match better with everyone, if you want something without issues choose stock, but don't have the optimizations options, if you prefer the options, choose the one you consider is better, but always have to sacrifice something

Hi,
now that my warranty expired I want to install a custom ROM.
Is there any open source ROM, or something that is secure, not controlled by Samsung for example, or any organisation who would have control over my phone if they wanted?
Thanks.
Privacy issues are always present if you use any internet based services services, including google services, but if you want to install a custom rom il advise you the following roms:
The griffin
XtreStoLite
Baserom
and MIUI
Baserom is my personal favourite
1. ALEXIS ROM 8.1.1, easily the best rom for the device. High customization, fast/smooth, excellent battery life, aroma addon package for things you may want and/or not want etc. Plus, it's actively updated regularly.
Then:
2. xtrestolite - also a great rom. The smallest TW rom with all the bloat removed. It doesn't seem to be getting any dev love now, so while still great it's a little outdated especially with security patches.
I've used nearly every rom (except miui and cm13), and the two above are your best bet.
Thanks, Ill try Baserom and Alexis tomorrow.

We have all tried many custom roms on our device, we have had many roms available for Nougat but now we have Oreo arriving on our devices, thanks to the devs we have many stable custom roms for oreo too.
We all know that not all custom roms are available here on XDA forums for various reasons, i would like this thread to mention all roms available for S8 exynos (g950f-fd ) OREO.
NOTICE : THE LIST IS NOT RANKED AS PER THEIR POPULARITY OR STABILITY.

Recommendations/Reviews
Hey!
I recently got an S8 (exynos) with Oreo that i have now rooted using magisk and TWRP.
I'm looking at custom roms but its hard to find the right one.
By browsing through threads here at XDA i usually just see the problems people are having, rather than positive experiences. (Since you are more likely to write when you actually have a question or need help..)
If anyone is using any custom rom now on S8 based on Oreo, please share your positive experiences and let us hear the downsides as well!
I'm mostly looking for a way to completely rid my phone of all bloatware, trackers and so on. I basically just want an empty OS with the normal apps for calling (contact book for example), and google play so i can find new apps there if i want to.
Facebook, gmail, google, samsung apps i would prefer to never see in my phone.
If the rom can be installed using TWRP thats the best for me since that's all i know so far.
Thanks for any tips you might have!

I'm using:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...t/rom-googlewiz-oreo-extreme-debloat-t3750641
Most of the Samsung apps have been taken out, and replaced with Google alternatives. What you're left with is a noticeably faster and smoother experience. My battery performance has improved also. Well worth checking out if you want a 'Barebones' 'Google like' offering.

Alright! Great stuff thanks for the tip!
I installed renovate ice on my s8 this weekend and so far its perfect for me. I was able to remove basically every single app from samsung and google, leaving me with what feels like a really clean phone.
So far i have not encountered any single issue or problem with the ROM. I will post here if i do or if i decide to try another one in the future.
Is this compatible with G955N?

If you mean renovate ice then yes. Im using it on my s8.
I've been using CarHDRom for many years.
Many possibilities to customize the Rom and 1A support!

I'm looking to replace my stock rom on exynos. One that could improve battery life.
Still few options (comparing to Snapdragon versions), sadly.
Hey man, how is your experience so far with renovate ice? Any noticeable issue with it? I'm considering using this rom but im seeking for advices first. Thanks
