WiFi performance in recent patch - Sony Xperia XZ Questions & Answers

My house has 50/20 Mbps internet. I'm using dual band WiFi, 5GHz on one router and 2.4GHz on another access point, both sit at the same location.
Previously I've been using 2.4GHz when I'm on 2nd floor with no problem gets about 30 Mbps when doing speed test, which is acceptable by me.
I'm not sure when but maybe within this few months, speed when I'm using on 2nd floor drops to 5 Mbps or sometimes even low as 0.3 Mbps. My iphone 4S still gets 20-30 Mbps.
Signal strength is the same as before about -70 to -80 dBm
It has no problem when I'm in line of sight from the access point.
Has anyone been experiencing this? And any solution
Thank you
PS. I still haven't reset the whole phone yet, but I have tried resetting network settings

Bad wifi signal?

Hey guys, just did some Wifi testing on my phone, getting some really bad results. Wondering if you guys are getting similar results as I am. I'm using speedtest site on my home computer and speedtest app for my phone. Both the computer and phone are sitting next to the router, no more than 1 foot away.
Just to note, I use Verizon FIOS as my home connection.
Computer results are almost identical after numerous tries, numbers don't differ.
29-31 Mbps down
23-25 Mbps up
Ping: 9-11ms
Now the phone through wifi at the same distance.
11.74 Mbps down
4.2 Mbps up
ping: 58ms
15.81 Mbps down
1.9 Mbps up
ping: 63
11.72 Mbps down
1.64 Mbps up
ping: 175
8.27 mbps down
1.63 mbps up
ping: 166
13.41 mbps down
0.75 mbps up
ping 80
and it just keeps going inconsistent at that rate, the upload especially, never seems to be able to get past 5 mbps on Wifi.
4g speed is fine though at about 12 mbps down and 5 mbps up at 50-80 ping.
I still have my Droid INC so i'm testing the wifi on that as well, getting a lot better speed at about 20 mpbs down, 12 up.
Anyone experiencing similar results or is my charge just defective.
My wifi is terrible on this device. I will have full wifi service in my livingroom with all of my devices (I use an airport extreme wireless router) and cant even get wifi at the same spot with my charge...its pretty disappointing. Other devices include my thunderbolt, incredible, iphone, xoom, ipad, and ipod touch...not to mention my laptop...idk if its the EE4 radio or what the hell would cause this. I've tried different kernels with no luck at all...
I've noticed the WiFi signal is weak when I first unlock the phone, but then after a minute of use, it gains strength. Maybe its a battery saver thing?

Bad Data Transfer Rates in Bldg.

I work in a downtown Dallas office building and am running radio 12.39a.60.19u_26.06.06.30_M on AOSPX ICS rom. My signal strength is at -89 dBm 12 asu, yet I have a difficult time getting a consistent transfer rate from my phone while at my desk. The data package also switches between "3G" and "H" occasionally. My battery life is okay, but Speedtest.net is reporting a download speed of anywhere between 512 and 781 kbps and upload speed of 739 and 1038 kbps. It's very inconsistent and sporadic.

Bad signal, interference, los to tower issues, a lot of people on same tower during peak usage. Pick your poison.
How does it perform outside the building? If it performs properly then it's just any or all of the mentioned causes. If it's still bad, then we can work on that. I personally get no signal for the 9hrs im inside my building at work, walk outside, 3g with full bars lol.
There are little tweaks you can do, keep phone in upright position (creates antenna alignment'ish to the tower), you can remove the case as well, (each layer the signal has to go through reduces it's strength)
I figured as much
And it does seem to work fine outside of the bldg. The only problem is that most of my coworkers' devices work fine in the bldg. They are on different networks. I'm on AT&T.

You are comparing apples and oranges. My company has a repeater installed in it for verizon, so all the verizon people get perfect signal. Something similar may be at your place. either way, i dont see a problem that can be fixed on your end, other than switching networks :/

2.4 GHz Wifi Performance

I've noticed very poor performance when using 2.4 GHz wifi on my G3 when compared to other devices. I can have my Nexus 4 and G3 sitting right next to each other on 2.4 GHz WiFi and the G3 is consistently slower when doing a speedtest like speedtest.net or iperf. Usually the G3 gets around half the speed of the Nexus 4 or worse. On occasions i've seen the G3 start getting below 1 Mbps or nothing at all and the the only way to fix it is by putting the phone into airplane mode and taking it back off.
When the G3 is connected to 5 GHz it is pretty much on par with the Nexus 4 when doing speedtests. I've also not seen any of the strange slowdown issues that require a reboot or airplane mode toggle on/off when connected at 5GHz.
Makes me wonder if i got a defective device or if anyone else is experiencing the same issues. I'm still within my 14 day return window but i'd hate to go through the process of swapping out the device and tweaking everything back to my preferences if this is an issue that will likely be fixed with a software update.
Has anyone else noticed issues with their device when connected to 2.4 GHz wifi?
Where did you find the settings for Wi-Fi freq?

You select the frequency when joining the network. If you have a dual band wireless router and have both frequencies broadcasting, the option to chose which band will appear when you are searching for wireless networks.
I get 50.28Mbps down and 20.11 Mbps up when testing with the Speedtest.net Android app on a 2.4GHz frequency router

Just curious who is your ISP ? 20 mbps up is awesome and I wish I could get there lol. I run 45 ish mbps down and 4.5 megabits per second up on suddenlink cable ISP on 2.4GHz

Verizon was nice enough to recently upgrade all FiOS customers with symmetrical bandwidth. Your upload now matches your download and in my case exceeds my download for no additional charge.
Not quite as fast as Google Fiber but Verizon's highest package is now 500 down/500 up.

It's Comcast. The 'Extreme 105' plan, I believe

Is your bluetooth turned on? If so turn it off and re run Speedtest.net. I have had a few phones that do not play well with bluetooth

I still have 2.4 GHz issues with the bluetooth disabled.

Nvidia Shield Tablet WiFi signal

My WiFi signal seems really slow and weak I have a pretty fast WiFi connection on all my other devices is there anything I van do?
What is the signal strength?
Ideally you would want all of your bars, but 3 should be good enough.
How many devices are using the internet at the same time?
What signal is the router broadcasting?
In have had no problems, except in my bathroom, were the signal goes down to one bar and "slows" down the connection.

I noticed that when your hand is over the left hand corner it will make the signal drop a bar or two and when you take it off it goes back up..weird
After upgrading to Android 5.01 via OTA, my upload speed for 802.11a 5Ghz band improved quite a bit giving me 50 meg down, but when switching to use the 2.5 GHz band on my router, speed drops to ~3.5 meg down. I checked speed on my Nexus 4 using the 2.5 GHz band and got around 35 meg down. Something is not quite right with the Shield WiFi when it uses a WiFi network using 2.5 GHz band.

That's why Nvidia says to specifically use the 5Ghz channel, not the 2.4Ghz.
I haven't received anything specifically from Nvidia stating not to use 2.5 GHz channel. Not everyone has a dual channel wireless router, so to upgrade just for the shield maybe not in the cards for some. There has to be a better answer than 'use 5 GHz only'. Most public access points aren't 5 Ghz channel.

WiFi strength, range, and throughput

Rate this thread to express how you think the Huawei Nexus 6P's Wifi performs. A higher rating indicates that it has excellent range, throughput, and signal strength. Like when you're taking a dump in the bedroom upstairs, do your videos have to buffer or do they come through without interruption?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
WiFi strength is good...nothing spectacular.
Good wifi.
Works pretty good. Pick it up outside in my car from my parking spot. Not strong but still connected.

Wifi is great here....... @svetius how are you doing Sir.........long time
I don't know if it's my router (I just bought it 2 days before my phone came in) but my download speed is not very good. I have a 50mbps down and 25mbps up, but when I run speedtest I get anywhere from 1-30 down and always 25-30 up (normal). My upload is always fantastic, but down varies greatly. I don't know if it's the router or if it's my phone. In all situations I am less than 10 feet from my router.
Can anyone run speed test on 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands and inform me if they see odd download speeds? By odd I mean jumping up and down a lot.

Couldn't agree less, the wifi reception on this phone is worlds better than my 2014 Moto X, I'm getting 2-3x the bandwidth at the furthest distances in our house.
Substantially better range and throughput than my N6.
Find my wifi is good. No better or worse than all my other devices. Picks up where i expect it to and loose it where i expect it to. Again speed is on par with my other devices
Wifi on 6p is much better - get full 118Mbps download (cable limit) with Nexus 5 typically doing 80Mbps download at same time frame. Connected to router at 585Mbps but I have seen it a 7xxMbps rate to router but effective internet still cable limited.

I also am getting faster WiFi performance by a good amount WHEN I do .. reason saying that is that the results are very variable. I would like to attach a screen print I saved but do not see how.
Great throughout with alright range, wifi drops at less range than my Note 3 and S4. This based off two N6P, first device I returned as the auto rotation was broke.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
My WiFi has been significantly better than my s4 so far with better throughput, latency, stability. My home connection is consistently above 500 Mbps.
First image 5ghz, Comcast 105-150mbps depending on time of day. Second image is 2.4ghz
WiFi is infinitely better than my previous phones, and 5ghz AC works better than on the iPhone 6s plus in the same spots. Signal strength on 5ghz AC is always 5-10db weaker than 2.4ghz. Plus, I get my full 90mbps everywhere in my house with 5ghz. 2.4 caps around 50-70 because of no free channels. Huawei did something right with the antennae, because I have no issues ever with signal/speed.
I'm getting lower pings and faster throughput on my 6P than my iMac 5K!
Of course, the position of my iMac may make a difference - but, regardless, that's bloody impressive. Huawei has always been pretty good with antenna design, and the larger size of the 6P presumably also helps?
In a test just now I got 9ms, 7.6 Mbps down, 1.1 Mbps up on my 6P (connection 526Mbps) and on my iMac 19ms, 6.8, 0.8 (connection 527Mbps*).
(* bit odd that one is 526 and the other 527 - maybe a rounding issue as I assume they're fixed increments?)
I'll second that WiFi speeds are noticeably faster than they were on my N6.
I haven't done any actual testing, but the primary thing I've noticed is that transfers to my local server are typically 20-30% faster.

On 5Ghz I got 72.2Mb down and 19.6Mb up on a 72/20 connection, so its running it flat out. This was through the speedtest.net app.
The signal on my 6p is significantly better than my Oneplus one. I tested both where wifi signal is lowest and tested both 2.4 and 5ghz bands. Pings are almost identical.
6p
5 ghz - 64.81 down / 12.19 up
2.4 ghz - 57.91 down /12.25 up
1+1
5 ghz - 30.70 down / 12.22 up
2.4 ghz - 17.30 / 12.16 up
Constantly drops Wifi. Then often forgets networks and even can't see any while scanning.
