AT&T Note 8 will not update - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

AT&T Note 8 - purchased directly from AT&T
Stock - no changes/modifications
Baseband Version: N950USQU4CRD7
Build number: R16NW.N950USQU4CRD7
Android Security Patch: April 1, 2018
Looking at AT&T's updated history logs, my Note 8 seems to be stuck with the last update being the May 15, 2018 update. I just realized this as I've been seeing people talk about updates received and some emoji feature - which I don't have. I keep checking my device daily and it continuously says my current software is up to date - no updates available. I tried using Samsung Switch on the computer and it also says my device is current.
Thought about doing a Format/Hard Reset and starting fresh... but would that help my situation to receive the latest update(s)? Not sure it would help at all or what to do in this case.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

It appears as if it is stuck and doing a factory reset "format/ hard reset" will not fix the issue since it will report that it's still on the same baseband version.. What you have to do now is flash the most up-to-date firmware there is in order to get the stuff you want like the emojis.. I'm assuming you know how to use odin to flash firmware files? First you're going to have to download this baseband version N950USQS5CRG9 it's over 3GB in size and then after that's flashed you'll have to get this N950USQU5CRIA update which is 600MB and place it on your SD card and then boot into recovery mode and then select flash update from SD card and it'll all be done.
Also the way to get the 600MB update is easy you go to this website https://samsung.firmware.science and you scroll down some and the first thing you do is enter your phones model which is N950U and then under that you select the baseband version that you're currently on which is N950USQS5CRG9 after selecting that right underneath you'll see download for N950USQU5CRIA and that's the update firmware you put on the SD card!

I'm not familiar with Odin and flashing but I can definitely start doing some research and studying.
Any link to a good site to read up on the whole process? I'm just a lil scared of doing it all wrong since I'm a complete newbie to flashing.
Thanks for your help!!

You're welcome!!
This link right here will pretty much tell you everything you need to know in order to flash the firmware https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-to/use-odin-flash-samsung-galaxy-stock-firmware-0182037/
Download this odin https://samsungodin.com/download/Odin3_v3.13.1.zip
And you also need the Samsung USB drivers so download that here https://samsungodin.com/SamsungUSBDriver/USB_Drivers_1.5.27.0.rar
If you would like me to help you through the process I can do it tomorrow but not right now because I have work tonight and I'm about to leave so if you would rather wait until tomorrow just send me a private message and i'll get back to you you can either leave an email or text number whichever you're comfortable with! I would still like you to read from the website I linked that way you can have an understanding of everything that needs to be done and you'll be doing all the work so you can learn anyway. Have a great night!

Even if she isn't using an AT&T sim card, she needs to learn this process anyway because if she doesn't have an AT&T sim card she can't sit there and keep getting an AT&T card just for updates all the time that's why it's best if she learns the flashing process.

You'll need to provide many more details.
Are you on a Carrier Device (AT&T, VZW or unlocked, etc)
What ROM are you currently on?

You will need to Odin to the latest OTA, it's currently N950USQU5CRL1. You will lose data, so you will need to back up.
You can find Odin HERE
and 5CRL1 is HERE

You'd have to be quick on every single flash but you COULD do it. Personally I would not recommend it. Doing a dirty flash that many times (it'll be a lot) is asking for trouble.

Just put any working Verizon SIM card ( borrow one from anyone ) and it will update your cellphone automatically, i did that with S8+ and Note 8 Both from AT&T, both AT&T logo gone but i got the update from Android 8 to 9, i'm assuming when ever you switch your SIM card to your company you will start getting the new updates with the logo from them again, let me know if this works, thanks.

hello. i purchases an At&t note 8 and paid for the unlock codes from AT&T themselves.
i popped in a new sim, brought it back to Africa where i work and ever since, it has refused to give me an OTA update.
Baseband Version: N950USQU4CRD7
Build number: R16NW.N950USQU4CRD7
Android Security Patch: April 1, 2018.
Looking at At&T website, other note 8 users and reading through Sammobile, I am obviously far behind on updates.
Can anyone help me fast track to android PIE?
Im so confused with the number of Firmwares out there. And considering i have had it unlocked, i do not know how to proceed..
Thanks in advance.

My At&T LG G4 refuses to update marshmallow (Android 6)

Hello House,
Please can anyone help me out??
I got an AT&T unlocked phone from a friend in the U.S. Phone works fine but is on Android 5.1. I want to upgrade to Android 6. I tried software update from settings-about phone-update center. Update fails at 1% with error: software update unavailable. Please contact LG customer service... err:0x112500. I checked the net and got a OTA file that some guys claim will update without an AT&T sim. I tried updating this using FOTA via adb: same error at 1%. I tried updating using LGUP with the OTA file: same error at 1%. Please can anyone help out on how to update this phone!!!
I'm on build LMY47D, software version: H81010o
Would really appreciate any assistance.

You’ll need to update via an AT&T sim. If it won’t update it an att sim you might not have an actual H810. A lot of people have problems with the phone after updating so I wouldn’t recommend it anyway.

Hi Hyelton,
Thanks for the super prompt response. Unfortunately I'm not in the US and do not have access to a ATT sim. even if i had, there is no network for ATT where I am. Based on my research online, others were able to update without the sim card using FOTA via adb and LGUp. I just don't understand why mine is giving me so much stress. The phone is a H810. Can send a screenshot of phone's software details page. I need the phone to be on Android 6 cos I need to install my office apps on the phone and only android 6 or above is supported.....

The phones software details doesn't show the actual model just the software installed. Just throwing it out there it's common when it comes to the H810 to be sold to someone and its not an H810. Especially if your friend bought it referbed

Just double checked sorry about that, yeah got that file back in March it’s even in the OP links. Yes you can flash that. Just be sure you have an actual H810 or you’ll really screw up the device when flashing.

It’s in the guide/thread your posting in . Yes you would use LGUP and choose refurbish if you cannot select the tot choose upgrade, select the tot then go back and choose refurbish.
Some things to remember. If it is a wrong model phone flash will either fail and you’ll be stuck, or the update will work but under settings and privacy /password and a few other things will no longer be usable.
Also you won’t be able to downgrade once you flash this.

Hi Hyelton,
So I flashed the phone and the upgrade worked. However unfortunately, I cant get into the security settings, my lock screen settings is stuck on swipe(other lock methods fail). and phone wifi does not work with enterprise wifi that is secured. Do you have any fix for this? If this is a board issue, maybe I should open the board and flash it with the appropriate firmware for the board (ie: If H815, flash with MM for 815 etc)-what do you think?

Just an update; opened the motherboard, its a H810. not sure why I'm having this security setting issue. also, funny enough, I can now update software directly from AT&T server. My 20y is now 22c! if I can just fix this "unfortunately, the process com.android.settings has stopped" error on the security settings, I will be fine.
Please anyone have a solution to this?

Sadly that error is symptom is common across a lot of AT&T G4s both faked and real. Only fix is to have its board replaced. There’s no fix for it.

AT&T Galaxy S8+ OTA software update not working / alternative way. SOLVED

What I want to do: I was trying to OTA update my phone software to the latest, but it seems I am behind on many updates. On the AT&T website, I saw that I need the previous updates installed first, in order to get the latest ones. I have to go in order.
Problem: Every-time I try to do a software update from the settings, it says “Current software is up to date.” It’s been saying that for over a year now. I can’t even get the updates from last year.
So is there a way I can flash one of the stock firmware updates from last year on to my phone with Odin and see if it will fix the ‘over the air’ updates? Or can I just skip to the most recent firmware and flash that one.
By the way, I have never done anything like this to my phone before, so I am a bit nervous, but I want to get this problem fixed so I would love if someone helped me out. I did see some articles online about flashing stock firmware, that’s how I learned about Odin.
If this is doable, can someone please link me to a thorough tutorial on this process? If it isn’t, can you guys recommend another way of getting to the latest 8.0 stock firmware?
My phone:
Galaxy S8 plus (AT&T)
Model#: SM-G955U
Android version: 7.0
Baseband version: G955USQS1AQF7
Android security patch level: June 1, 2017
Kernel version: 4.4.16-11449429
My phone isn't unlocked.

You can Odin flash CRG3 and the next OTA should be CRHI, so once you go thru settings, check for updates it should want to go to CRHI. And then you should be in the Update path to receive OTA's automatically

Thanks, so is it okay to flash it with the latest version of Odin? Also, do you mind linking me with an up to date / reliable tutorial on this? This is my first time attempting to do something like this.
One more thing, on Sammobile, there is only one firmware available for at&t, and it's the oldest one.

Okay, and is it okay if I flash from a firmware from May 2018? It's about 4 months old. Would I be able to OTA update from there on? Also, what is AT&T userdata? Yes you can use this firmware and start to receive updates, User data I'm not 100% sure but I think its supposed to flash your data so you wont have to reinstall everything but I heard it dosent work for At&t it will still do a complete wipe before install.

Official Pie Update for SM-N950U?

Can someone send me the official link for the official stable Pie update? Cuz my phone which is Unlocked AT&T Note 8 has a problem updating.
When I go into settings>>software update>> it always says "Current software is up to date". Same thing happens when I use Samsung Smart Switch on Windows it says the same thing.
I would try to flash the .zip file on the stock recovery.
I would provide the other details below if you need cuz I'm unsure what update file should I use. Thanks!!
There are threads available to help you with that, just need to do a little bit of searching.

Affirmative!
When the August security update comes out for the U.S., will my Cricketwireless SIM allow me to get the AT&T update? Or, do I have to put an AT&T SIM in the phone. Could I just take the SIM out & connect to wifi instead?
Thanks.

Android 11 for x2 Pro is out

https://cntechpost.com/2020/06/22/oppo-releases-coloros-based-on-android-11-beta-1/
*** It wipes all your data. So do backup.
It has Color OS 7.2 and still has GMS.
Download the zip and update in recovery. MAY BE BUGGY.
If you are in Beta, you may not be able to receive beta even when you rollback to 10

Oh I didn't see this. Have a try. I only have the Chinese version.
This is extremely buggy. Reboots, 3-button navigation hitboxes interfering with app usage, random reboots to recovery,
I rollback to Android Q with the file that Oppo gives and it says now "No Sim Card" detected....
My model is CPH2025EU and their file is for the 2025PU... How can i fix that ? :-/
Oh dear, looks like this beta might not be worth trying yet.
But... well done to Oppo on offering it and to those of you willing to flash it.

Same Problem here, IMEI disappears. Guess I have to bring it to service center lol.
You rolled back as well to Android Q ?
I guess we need to wait for an european firmware equals the chinese firmware 11_A_23 as the most recent european firmware for me is the 11_A_18 version.

Yes, I rolled back and got screwed lol.
I'm sure we're going to be several people affected by this issue.
Someone is going to find a solution quickly i hope :-/

The one who can find the solution must be "OPPO" themselves. Since nothing can be done with our device. No MSMDownloadTool nor OPPOdownloadtool (for consumer like us). Nothing can be done here. Guess they have a problem signing their package in the Kernel section.
Mine is Thai version. Dual SIM, CPH2025.
I tried to warn people in the comment section of ColorOS but sadly, I can't comment since my OPPO ID hasn't participated anything in their forum yet. So, I will let it go.
What about flashing a firmware through ADB ?
SIM card will no longer be read when you roll back in China version. The only solution is to install Android 11 Beta 1 again. I can now read the SIM card.
By the way, some people in the ColorOS community in China have similar symptoms.
Well in Beta 11, the phone detect my Sim Card, but i have no date mobile showing up even though i have my Operator setup appearing for MMS and 4G Data... Soits still a little problem.. i'm gonna flash Android Beta 11 then and hope for a second beta for Global version very soon...
EDIT : Beta 11 is really unusable ! The screen goes black and light up like crazy, multiples reboots, the phone gets warm as hell.... So no other choice than roll back to android Q, even if it means that i';ll not able tu use my Sim Card.... I can understand that a Beta may be buggy, but for this one, they really messed up !!
no sim card too
---------- Post added at 09:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:22 PM ----------
no sim card too when rolling back 10. 2025 Global

I´ve got exactly the same problem...........

I think we need to contact Oppo to ask them to release a rollback firmware specifically for others variants, but i'm afraid they'll tell us that they warn us that Beta 11 was just for the Cbinese model...

Sorry we still don't have OEM unlock or a Root method for this model . This was to get android 10 on our phones when our carrier's haven't released it yet using the Xfinity mobile's update .
Well thank you sir . My mom just bought this phone and she customized it. I said don't because figured it would erase . Well after your instructions on it she now has Android 10 and all her settings were still there ! I wish we could do something like that with the J7 perx which I'm using now the twrp went to 3.4 , getting other J7 roms. Well back to the A205U, I was little discouraged because you could enter MSL or a generic MSL number on android 8 and 9 and activate native tether. With 10 I couldn't, well it did though let me create my own apn and save it so native hotspot working still ! Thank you Peter !
Looks as if most North American carriers have updated to Q/10 now

Isn't TMB T-Mobile? So is TMK Metro? Want to flash the correct version for my phone too. We received a security patch mid June for Pie. Flashed the Xfinity Q thinking we wouldn't see Q for a few months.

Yes, CSC TMK is Metro. And you can flash all 5 firmware files this time to get your carrier branded implementations. As well as HOME_CSC if you don't want to lose current data.

I don't see where to put the home file. Only slots for AP, BL, CP, CSC, and USERDATA. Do I put HOME_CSC on CSC slot?
Edit: Nvm I got it thanks!

I'm want to go in the opposite direction. Want to downgrade to Adr. 9 (pie) for a couple of reasons. Anyways, it's been determined(?) the B/ler is locked (Galaxy SM-A205U). Do you have any methods, advice on how I may go about achieving a B/ler unlock and/or downgrade?

If the bootloader has been updated... it's a trap.
Pie is a better OS; supports trusted overlay apps, more functionality for 3rd party apps and no scope storage.
Unless you do something stupid security isn't an issue with Pie.

RE: blackhawk
Thanx for the info. Perhaps you can give me an answer to another question. One of the reasons I want to revert to pie is that I could get local (not i-net) FM radio. This phone has the chipset and I had local FM until the And. 10 "upgrade"(was it?). Right now, I'm hesitant to attempt the downgrade because all the talk of the B/ler being locked. Once I figure that out, then I'm sure I'll do the downgrade. I have an idea how to defeat the locked B/ler, but I need some more info before I try it. Stay Sharp!

Maybe a different stock rom Android 10 would support the FM radio? I never had that feature so I know nothing about it.
It's now completely missing? Maybe you need an app to access it that's missing rather than the firmware not supporting that hardware.
Look in Developer options and in Settings where it use to appear.
Try some Google searches.
