[POLL] OTA update or HuRU - Huawei P20 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

So I have been using my P20 Pro for some time now being happy with it in general. What I am not happy about is the current "how you do an update" situation.
Right now we have two methods:
OTA update: A PC is required for flashing back and forth between the original and TWRP recovery_ramdisk partition. In addition this seems to cause problems with the latest OTA updates.
HuRU used from TWRP: Requires you to download the FULL OTA update while in Android (I had to download this anyhow last time as the partial OTA update failed). Besides that I was unable to actually locate some source to this tool or its origin or at least where the information for this tool came from.
With this poll I would like to know what the P20 (Pro) users inside this forum are using or more specific what they prefer and why. At the same time I would like to hear about problems you had with HuRU or OTA update (except for having to download the FULL update after the incremental update failed or small OTA updates not working with the latest firmware versions).
Information collected within this thread will then be added to my P20 Pro guide post.

Updating a C432

Just recently bought this phone, and after scouring this forums the past few days I found that the EMUI that shipped with my phone is 4-5 months old (Dec '16) and that there have been multiple updates since, even though the OTA on my phone says I'm using the latest version. This scares me, not so much for features, but because of potentially missing security patches.
Looking at hwmt.ru's listings, there's a lot of updates, and for my specific model the latest OTA is B181, and the latest "full" update (I assume these are whole images) is B156.
Can I download the B156 updates (basically the same way used when rooting the phone) to update the stock ROM?
And if that is correct, what are all the listings on that site under the "A" (or "Тип") column with "OTA" for?
Download the firmware finder app for android and update through it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tools/general/huawei-firmware-finder-team-mt-t3469146
You probably won't be able to update to 181 though... You'll have to test which ones you can install. Huawei needs to approve each firmware version before we can install through system update.
B181 didn't work, authentication error, gonna try the other way and work my way up instead.
Nice that someone made a tool to automate this though, even though it's a hacky way
Nevermind that, every single version gets that authentication error, even the ones older than the one I have currently installed.

[Discussion] Rollback package for various models

Hi Folks,
Seeing around various section of all the models when users are struggling to restore their phone either due the flashing an incorrect firmware or after updating via Firmware Finder app and then wanting to rollback to earlier version of EMUI. They sometime cannot even flash the custom ROMs due to FRP lock or unable to flash the custom recovery and even after trying all the known methods, we struggle to restore their phone as they messed up badly with their phone and model or version change to something unexpected.
In this thread, lets discuss and share about rollback files available for various models (be it MM, Lollipop anything) so that new users could use it to restore to their original version and then update to official versions.

Can I skip firmware updates to the latest?

I apologize in advance if this question comes up often but I just could not find an answer anywhere else! I have an old S7 G930V stuck on the last Marshmallow G930VVRU4API3. It wants to OTA update to G930VVRU4BQA4 from March 2017 but it keeps failing the installation with error code 402. I haven't tried to download and install the update yet with Odin, but I was wondering if I could just skip the next dozen updates and install the latest firmware update G930VVRS4BRA1 from January 2018? Will this cause any problems with the phone for having skipped all of the prior updates or do the latest firmware updates generally include all of the prior updates?
Flashing the latest full stock ROM will include all previous updates.

Question OnePlus 9 cannot update from 2113_11_C.60

Hi all,
I have a weird issue - I have updated my OnePlus 9 EU last year over Oxygen Updater, but managed to install India-only update on EU phone and now in settings it shows 2113_11_C.60.
After scouring internet I found that C.60 was India only update.
Now, I haven't received a single auto update since May 2022.
I have tried downloading incrimental updates to C.62 both for 2113 and 2111, but neither local upgrade nor special oneplus app was not able to update.
Also tried full install of C.62, no success.
Even tried full upgrade to latest EU build LE2113_11_F.75 - same result..
The local upgrade through settings constantly shows "verification failed" no matter what file I choose.
OP's System Update app would fail after showing system updating for a minute, with 0% progress.
As I understand, I somehow managed to install Indian version of incrimental update on EU phone, but now I am stuck on it.
What are other reinstall options on OnePlus 9?
Can I somehow force install if I connect over PC?
Many thanks for the help!

Index of /list/Unbrick_Tools
Find the one compatible for your device whatever stock would be and run the msm recovery tool. This will get you back where you need to be to be able to update to latest software.
Otherwise you can try editing the file payload_properties.txt inside the update zip and changing oplus_update_engine_verify_disable to 1. This way your phone should skip the verification process entirely. Keep in mind that this could still result into bricking your phone because of this unintended update path but since the alternative would be using MSM tool why not trying anyway.
