Out of the blue, my touchscreen has stopped responding. Tried rebooting many times, always asks for the PIN after the reset, which I can't input since the screen isn't working. I've tried booting into Safe Mode and still no touch response, and rebooting from recovery mode didn't make a difference. I really don't want to hard reset my phone, but I can't find any other ideas anywhere online. Any help? Everything is stock, craziest thing I do is use Nova Launcher.

This has happened to me twice the last hour now.. the qwerty keyboard just stops responding.. No lights come on, and nothing happens when I press the keys.. Soft resetting the device usually helps, but shortly after it happened again!
Help?! *cries*
EDIT: It now just stops responding while im texting.. and then after a while it works again.. happens often*
Sounds like a hardware issue. In your case i would contact the htc support/service.
I had "Advanced COnfigurator 3.2" installed, and thought I may have bumped into a setting or something.. resetted everything to default, rebooted and uninstalled configurator.. hoping it will work!
Somehow, I always end up with a phone that has an issue!
EDIT: No, it still stops.. maybe a hard reset is needed?!
A hard reset worked for me. I also didn't touch any of the power saving options. Keyboard does not die on me anymore. I'll wait and see though
So I have GingerDX installed with no issues except this one. I tried wiping and fresh install but it is still an issue for me.
It mostly happens with the keyboard, everytime I bring it up, I get the background and empty screen. When I press back, keyboard goes away and everything goes back to normal. It happens with default keyboard and swype which is the keyboard I want to use.
I have seen it occur at other times occasionally though. Anybody got any ideas? This basically makes the phone unusable if I can't type.
Oh and if I rotate the screen, sometimes, it causes the keyboard to appear with squeezed input box and I can use the phone but other times, this does not work.

Found problem, theme doesn't work properly on X8. going back to A-Lite resolved isuse.
I have the Verizon variant of the Galaxy S6
A few different times now the capacitive buttons stopped working. They don't light up, they don't work, and there is no haptic feedback from them. It always happens after a restart, but not the first restart.
I have tried factory reset and that didn't work. I had to flash my phone using Verizon's repair assistant to fix the problem.
The second time it happened I thought it was due to installing that Galaxy Lights app everyone is talking about. I booted into safe mode, uninstalled the app and restarted. Once I did it worked for a few more days before it happened again. I did a full repair to fix it.
A few minutes ago it happened again. This time I haven't installed that app or any other apps that would affect the buttons. I am rooted with Ping Pong but I haven't done anything other than remove a few bloatware items and use Titanium Backup.
Any suggestions? I'm desperate to find the problem and a solution so I don't have to keep resetting my phone. Thanks!
So, I booted into safe mode and the buttons were working fine. I didn't do anything and restarted into normal boot mode. Now the buttons are working just fine. We'll see what happens in the next few days if it reaccures.
Has anyone else had similar problems with them stop working?
Problem Again
I rebooted my phone and the buttons stopped working again. Booting into safe mode doesn't fix the problem.
I haven't installed any apps recently and no apps at all that would have an impact on the soft keys. I have a small hunch it may be caused by having a handful of apps open as i restart.
Any special resets or things I should try to get my soft keys working again?
This just happened to me today.
Galaxy S6, VZW.
Buttons were working just fine, and then suddenly stopped working as I was using the phone.
I had noticed a strange screen briefly that looked like the task manager but had no "close all" at the bottom, but I dismissed it and then shortly thereafter the buttons seemed to just stop working.
Haven't tried a safe mode boot yet. Will do that shortly.
If this is going to become a recurring thing, I'm sad.

Nope. No dice. Soft buttons (capacitive) not working at all (not lighting up at all either - even at boot).
Any ideas?
That sucks
Try uninstalling any recent apps that might affect haptic feedback, display settings, etc while in safe mode.
Otherwise you'll have to flash using Verizon recovery software. It'll install itself once you connect your phone to your PC. This will completely reset your phone so be sure to backup.
If you don't want to do all that just use "Handy Soft Keys"
It'll make a floating widget with the soft keys. I ultimately had to do a warranty exchange with VErizon.
I've had the same thing happen to me. Capacitive buttons just stopped working after having the phone for a week.
I've tried rebooting, running the battery down to 0, rebooting to safe mode. Nothing seems to work.
I've enabled the "tablet software buttons" (qemu.hw.mainkeys=0) in the interface so I can still use it for now, was hoping they'd magically start working again so I don't have to get a warranty (refurb) replacement.
Anyone else find something that fixed them?

Best advice I have is to flash your phone back to stock.
I still haven't restarted my phone, I really don't want them to stop working again.

Nope.
I tried a full factory reset/wipe, to no avail.
Took it to the VZW store and they got me a replacement no questions, though. The new phone has been working fine -- -- -- so far...
seems its a hardware issue. I've tried different ROMs flashing through Odin. Nothing happened. Sometime works, sometime not!!!
Thanks in advance for any advice,
Similar to others recently, I've gotten the "Samsung keyboard keeps stopping" message. I restarted my phone, thinking it would help. However, when you restart, you can't unlock your phone with a fingerprint, it has to be through entering your password. My keyboard won't pop up though, so I'm 100% locked out of my phone. I've tried everything from restarting, powering down, restarting in safe mode. The only thing I haven't done is a factory restart, because I have precious photos of my infant daughter on there that I cannot lose. I've taken it to stores, and have tried connecting it to my Mac, but to no avail, I've found no way to bypass my lock screen. I'm just looking to either unlock it, or get my photos off so I can do a factory reboot. Help!
You could download the app for say Google Keyboard and install it with adb
adb install keyboard.apk
Over the last couple weeks, I sometimes had the problem, that the S7 would just reboot randomly, sometimes multiple times in a row, after freezing for a few seconds first. It seemed to get better when I switched it off for some time and let it rest before rebooting.
Now yesterday it started crashing and rebooting again. But it would only go up until the lock screen, while being quite laggy. Sometimes I could swipe away notifications before it crashed, sometimes not even that. When I typed in the password, it crashed at the latest. Then, later, it would barely show the lock screen before crashing, only scaling up the brightness in steps, again very laggy.
Today, I can't even get the phone to the lock screen. After the Samsung and Galaxy S7 logos, the screen would go black (also, when the Samsung logo starts appearing for the first time in this drawing motion, it only draws a little party of the first "s" before freezing for some time). If I touch the home button (and sometimes the power button), the soft buttons would light up (but only once, if they go dark and I press again, nothing happens). But no lock/ start screen whatsoever.
What I tried so far: hard reboot, wipe cache partition, factory reset, both combined. Tried flashing TWRP to get some more options, but it doesn't let me due to this fap lock.
Also, I can only get into recovery mode by pressing power + down + home, then in download mode selecting the restart option, and then applying power + up + home.
Had anyone had this problem before, or any tips what else I could try?
Flash stock with ODIN 3.12.3 or newer?
I will try flashing 6.1 or 7.0 and report back whether it worked.
It didn't work. Though now, sometimes, when tapping the screen it seems to recognize button presses. Also, the voice assistant keeps randomly bursting phrases.

If flashing a new firmware with ODIN doesn't cure the problem then it's most likely a hardware problem.
Dammit. Since the back has a crack, I doubt they'd repair it... Thanks anyways!

Yep unfortunately it sounds like a hardware problem, did you use CSC with the other 3 firmware files?
CSC = Factory reset after flashing (Use this one)
HOME_CSC = No reset
You could try checking the "Repartition" box in ODIN options tab to ensure a clean flash
Make sure you use ODIN 3.12.3 or newer too

Voice assistant is not enabled by default, which sounds like something is pressing either the screen or buttons to activate the setting
Which could also be a reason why nothing else responds properly, imaging holding your finger on the screen, then using your other hand to try and use the phone
Possible the digitizer (touch panel) across the screen is damaged, or possible that a button(s) are damaged and permanently pressed in
