Help! When I try to root my evo shift with gui shift root and recovery all I get is an adb error message. I have installed htc sync on my laptop. I also cannot connect to sync. These problems may be related? I am running windows vista.
sounds like the drivers may not have installed... Where did you get the version of sync you installed? You're best bet is to use the one off the sdcard. I've had an occasion or two also where things got messed up, and I uninstalled it all and reinstalled. (under programs and features you'll find HTC sync and driver installer, remove both and reinstall if necessary)
I installed it off the sd card and have did the install/ uninstall at least 5 times. still no luck.
i had same error but i just did mine maually. theres a video now for manually rotting it. if you fllow the steps you will root your shift

I'm in the same boat no matter what I do it my shift won't connect to sync and when I run adb devices it kicks a blank line then right back to platform-tools I'm running Vista myself and messed with it for hours and no luck I'm mad because I have rooted my shifts already and don't know what went wrong with the drivers sync or my pc this sucks as I need to be able to adb to help test some things

You do have adb debugging on right... the only other thing I could think of.
Yes I do have debugging on.
have you tried getting sync from htc's website to be sure?
If I'm correct the old version of syn from sprints website was giving me problems loading the drivers. I used the newest version from htc website and voila I was good to go. U may want to try that. I just re rooted earlier use the gui and it worked like a charm

I have the sync from htc website. I still get error running adb try again. Ive used the same usb cord and ports with my archos pad and have no trouble transfering files.
What exactly does the error message say? And with what command?

Maybe it's your sdk that is messed up... Maybe try downloading and installing again.

Ive got temp root now with visionary. And have it set to reroot when i turn my phone off/on. I have wireless tether (non adhoc) which is what I was wanting to tether my archos 101. I still can't connect to sync. Wondering if its a vistas issue?

But when I hit add devices it kicks back and empty line after it starts the Damon on whatever then right back out to platform tools...it does the same thing with every sync I install, plus my phone can't find sync on my pc at all even if its open...and help would be really appreciated

I'm having the "error running adb try again" problem as well. Unfortunately when I try to run adb from the cmd prompt its output goes to a popup cmd prompt window which disappears before I can read it. My guess however is that it's blank like yours.
I'm convinced I've done everything they way I'm supposed to. Has anyone yet gotten the htc drivers to work under vista?
I had this same issue with ADB..all I did was, while connected via usb, uncheck debugging and then recheck. Clicked root again and it worked.
Sigh, there was a adb update. Install the new version from the sdk, delete the one in shiftrr, copy the new one in, close adb with task manager, then run as you were trying to do before. That fixed it for me.
And make sure when you install the recovery, not to use the one it comes with, it doesn't support the newer roms we have on the shift now. If you want to flash current ones, use clockwork 5.0.2.0, our twrp (recommended)
ok I have searched, read and tried everything but I still can not get my phone to mount on a Windows 7 system. I am currently running 2.3.4 Bamf the newest preview. Open your Device Manager on Windows and delete any Thunderbolt related devices that have a yellow exclamation mark. Re-plug in the device.
and or download htcsync off their website for the thunderbolt. that installs all necessary drivers
I have to download the HTC Sync drivers in order to get mine to work in Win7. The other issue is that on GB you can't or may not be able to go from charge to disk drive without first going to internet connection and then disk drive. That is a known issue.

I thought you might be on to something here but alas there where no problems but the only thing listed under Android phone is MyHTC?
OMG I just fixed it. The problem was in Device Manager! Thanks a lot!
I cannot get mine to connect either. Tried the devicemanger route with no luck, Also tried to re-install the HTC drivers, same result.

check to make sure you have windows media 11 or higher on your computer. I had that issue. Running XP I had an issue but Win 7 it installed easily..
This is what I used
Motorola_End_User_Driver_Installation_5.1.0_32bit.msi
MotoHelper_2.0.49_Driver_5.0.0.exe
Windows Media 11
Also search around on google lots of people have had this issue and thats how I found my answer.. Also xoomforums.com is a good site for answers as well
OK so I installed wmp11 and it will recognize my xoom thanks for the tip. however now I cannot get ADB to work my device is there I have every sdk ever made down loaded and I have the moto USB driver mentioned installed but I can't get into a ADB to save my life.

usb debugging needs to be checked in order for the adb to work.
So I have a Samsung Focus running Mango 7712. I had no issues updating to that, no 'walshed' phone or whatever it's called. I have been trying and looking for solutions for 3 days now on how to update to Mango 7720 but I'm stuck now and nothing seems to work, so I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this.
I have:
1. All the proper drivers installed I'm pretty sure
2. Zune 4.08.2134
3. The 7720.rar and everything extracted directly and properly to the C: drive. I even uninstalled the update tool I had and installed the one that was located in the 7720.rar folder.
So here's my issue:
When I go to run the .bat file as an administrator, everything starts fine, transfers the updates, perfect...except when it gets to "restarting phone". That's when the problem occurs. I feel like it hangs on the 'Goodbye' screen too long, and THEN the command prompt just quits...a few seconds later the phone finally restarts and is stuck on the screen that says to plug it into the computer. So I have to pull battery and restart...obviously with 7712 still on there
I have tried to clear up more space on the phone ( I have 8.0GB free), I have tried unplugging and plugging the USB back in, just trying to restart the .bat file while it's stuck on that screen (to no avail), and I have tried 'pausing' the process in the command prompt until the phone gets back up to the connect to PC screen- but then when I resume the command...it just auto closes.
PLEASE someone help...I'm tired and can't find any solutions
Thanks to any replies in advance.....
I had the same issue. Instead of right-click, Run As Admin, try running the .bat by double-clicking. It still took quite a while for my Focus to reboot, but it finally restarted before the tool timed out.
Also, make absolutely sure all folders are in the C:\ drive. When I first extracted 7720.rar to the C:\ drive, it actually put everything into C:\MANGO. So I had to move it all to C:\ before anything would work.
Hope that helps.

ISVTo7720.bat Hangs on restarting phase/Error 801812c1 after run
This was the most common Error listed and had many solutions which seemed to work sporadically.
1. Do what @DavePerman said, and use the pause command so freeze the cmd command until phone reaches flashing phase.
2. Execute ISVTo7720.bat in a standalone CMD instead of through Windows Explorer. Do this by Run(open as Admin)>cmd>cd Mango>cd RCToRTM>ISVTo7720.bat
3. Remove all music from the device to free up 6+ gigs of memory.
4. Have at least 12 gigs of hard drive space on your computer. Some clam they needed 20
5. press the off button on the phone to force the phone into its flashing screen. (some say they pressed the button, some say they held it down until the screen turned off)
5. The most extreme, and last resort for this problem is to reset your phone through its settings menu. You will lose all information on the phone. (remember your contacts and apps are all in the cloud, so they can be recovered. Music/pictures/videos can be re-synced if backed up before hand.)
nothing seems to work

Anybody know what happening or had same problem
Have you already tried formatting with CWM?
Perhaps this thread contains some useful information for you.

I know this is a long shot but go to your dialer and input *#*#8778#*#* and make sure it looks like this pic. I fool with QPST and other things and sometimes forget to change the settings back to PDA and it will not mount. Long shot but what the hey...

Typed it in and got nothing. Using the android dialler when I pressed the last * the dialer cleared and did nothing.
Just installed the SDK so I could use (hopefully) ADB. When trying to install the Google driver rev4 windows says that rev 4 is no better than the one currently installed.
Also when I connect to the PC it says that the USB device is not recognised either.
I reckon my next thing to try flashing a new Rom via ROM manager.
well that didnt work in fact it has got considerably worse. I used ROM manager to download and install a new rom but didnt install the Gapps how daft do I feel now cos all I got is version of Blandroid running with no Android Market access to download ROM Manager.
I can access my WiFi network so I thought I would simply visit XDA via the mobile browser and download a fresh version of CM7 and then re-flash via ClockworkMod . However all I get is download fail error. I guess it doesn't know where to save the file.
So to recapp I have the following
a Nexus S (running Blandroid ROM)
a Win XP laptop that does not recognise my Nexus S (therefore cant install the Google driver to use ADB)
The Nexus S recovery is ClockworkMod and accessible.
I cannot accept that it is bricked (not just yet anyway)
I have another Laptop with Ubuntu installed. Will this help me in anyway to find a fix. I am not that experienced in Linux unfortunately.
1
i have the same problem. only thing you can try is.
pull out battery. let something metal touch the usb conecter .conecting the metal to a unload source(for static electricity.)
wait couple of hours, and try again.
if that didnt work.
2
open your nexus.
unplug all cables and screws from the main board.
again touch the usb conecter with something metal that has a ground source.
and try again.
the last step worked for me the 1st time pluging it in after i did that.
after that. usb didnt work again.
it probably has to do something with the usb phone charger and static electricity.
but i havent tested it.
will give that a try when I have a bit more time.
In the meantime I have been setting up ADB on my other laptop running Ubuntu 11.04. But unfortunately the Nexus S didnt register on the OS either. I thought you didnt need additional drivers for Linux only windows! I am really puzzled now as I thought the Linux option would have allowed me to flash a different ROM other than Blandroid (which isnt bad its just I dont have the Gapps installed)

you still have wifi/3G and CWM or bloothoot?
download the Gapps zip. put it on dropbox or any hosting site.download it trough your mobile browser and flash it trug CWM.
or use blutethoot to download it.
might be a short fix.until you get USB to work.
(this is how i do it cuz my usb doesnt work.)
I did try that but for some reason after stating that the download had started - Download Unsuccessful was displayed in the notification area. As useual I open a door only to find a brick wall on the other side.
In the meantime I am back with my HTC Hero.
Thanks for helping anyway!

try difrent download solutuins.
seeing you have HTC here.why not tranver your zip trug your hero to your Ns?(with bluethoot)
boy, i hope you haven't started tearing your phone apart yet...
since you still have access to cwm: try to format your sdcard with it. looks like you haven't done that yet.
I would try to uninstall all drivers and associated programs on your PC. Then reinstall the drivers. Windows can be very finicky as you know. Also try PDANET drivers.

The NS wouldn't connect to laptop with Ubuntu running. I am beginning to think that I have a faulty micro USB port.
Ill try the pdanet drivers later tonight - are they different from the google rev 4 drivers?

Same PC with dual boot? Yeah, try another cord and a another PC. The fact that you plugged it in and it's recognized in some way in the tray says something is fubar. I just don't know if it is the phone though. Best of luck.
Nah, different laptop and different cable. Hope that it charges OK. Gonna have to get a WiFi file transfer app working to move files to and from.
glad to help out :3
there are allot of people that have this USB isue and its HW NS related. nothing we actually can do about it.plus it also happens after changing kernels and roms(i supose) overclocking might be 1 of the reasons thus the voltages not being original.
btw, sorry for my half assed english x3
Double check the modem/pda settings mentioned in post #3. Should be set to pda to see the files on the SD.

Having the same issue. I tried that, no such luck.
My computer *did* connect at one point though... couldn't mount USB storage (wasn't prompted) but it did ask for a driver, and currently has a Samsug USB one installed. It won't accept the SDK driver (not 64-bit capable? Or NS4G? Idk...)
