[Q] Is it possible to turn 2nd back camera to capture just b/w - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

As the title mentions is it possible to edit the camera lib or something so that the 2nd back camera takes only B/W pics making it like a pseudo monochrome lens to take better detailed pics.

A b&w filter won't improve the photo quality. You'd need to physically remove the color part of the lense. Even then, both rear cameras have different megapixels and merging their photos would make it blurry if not lower res and it's not worth it at all.

Why not just use an app???

[q] digital zoom

is it true that no matter if you root/change rom/download a different camera app (vignette, 360 etc) there is NO POSSIBLE WAY AT ALL, or DOWNRIGHT IMPOSSIBLE to get digital zoom on this thing?
i am aware that:
- you can crop in the gallery/same effect as digital zoom
- digital zoom significantly lowers picture quality
That is correct.
Camera Zoom FX has a digital Zoom.
Not sure why you'd want it though, better to take the whole pic and crop around the point of interest, rather than being forced to commit to the crop early.

3 questions about camera

1.) why is the camera photo quality so horrible even with camera mods and everything? is it the lens or the software?
2.) why cant we take 5MP 3d photos? both cameras are 5MP..can this be solved with software?
3.) why cant we choose which camera we want to use (left or right) for 2d video recording/still camera. its not very useful for most but for people like me who got some dust under the main camera lens cover and not able to remove, it would be useful
and if u have any ideas how to remove the dust under camera lens cover please tell me!
1. Definitely the software. I believe all the mods are just modding the stock camera and increasing their bitrate and quality. However, that's not really fixing up other issues so the image quality still looks bad. But for proof that its not the lens, download a camera app called Camera360. Try it out, I've never taken more beautiful pictures with a phone before. So yea, I believe its all just in the image technology LG used for their images.
2. Not sure.
3. shrug* your guess is as good as mine.
Why is the camera soooo slowwww? or is it the camera app?
To speed up the stock camera set your focus (in camera settings) to continuous - nice quick snaps..... the focus may be off for close shots but those you can use macro or auto (just on auto its MUCH slower!)
A class 10 SD card will also help with speed if you are saving to the external SD card

[Q] Camera App?

You shouldn't take the size of a picture as a reference for quality. It depends on many factors how big a file would be. Speaking from my experience a wide photo is bigger than a zoomed in photo because it has more details to take in, a photo in a brighter light gives a bigger size, a photo with a lots of details and colors also gives a bigger size. Plus technology is advancing at rapid pace so you can't compare cameras on different devices from different times.
As alternatives you can try something like: Camera FV-5 (emulates a DSLR with many of its functions) or you can try putting on a stock camera from LG Prada or LD O3D Max (normally to have these you must flash a ROM) or you can look at here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1502963 - a thread about camera mods on O3D
I also recommand some other apps that gives more functionality to the stock camera: Fast Burst Camera - takes like 100 shots in about 20 secs - good to make animated gifs, and Lapse It - an app that takes and wrap it up timelapse pictures into a movie.

Stock camera app. vs camera fv-5

i really love shooting RAW for edit but jpeg is also important
after 5.1.1 update which enables raw capture i get camera fv-5 app but i'm really upset of its jpeg bad quality in-spite of its large size compared to the stock camera app.
any one had noticed this??? the photos are not sharp at all and feels like it's taken by 5 MP camera

u should report it to App Developers
for JPEG format test this app
Floating CameraW+
>> This is not raw capturing But it just capture the exact view of lens without any extra effect
so on healthy hardware it should take vibrant color and clear view compare to stock app
the full CameraW+ is paid on Google Play Store But If it can help to solve ur problem msg me to send its APK file
:good:

Open Camera now allows P20 PRO to record video using all lenses

Hi all, you might know this already but I just found out and it seems like absolutely great news for this phone. The latest Open Camera update allows you to record video using every camera on the phone. Even the monochrome one works. No need to have perfect lighting conditions in order for the camera to switch between main and telephoto. You now have a dedicated camera button which lets you select what lens to use. Did you get the chance to try it out? I didn't have any issues yet.
Link please
Here it is:

Is the recording quality improved?
I'm not sure. You do have to option to record with maximum 80Mbps but I I find it hard to tell if that is any different from the 30Mbps standard rate. Video looks crisp and clear, colors are very good, especially if you lock the white balance.
Quality seems not as good.. Also can not use Camera API 2, for high res to get extra control in manual mode.
I'm not sure why you can't use camera2 api. For me it works and I can select iso and exposure during filming. I have a CLT L29.

whats your max resolution for recording video using Camera2 API?
For the 40mp lens and the telephoto lens, I have 3840x2160. The monochrome camera however has a resolution of 3264x1840 for video.
Sorry for necropost, but anyone tried open camera for B&W photos? Does it allow exposure bracketing? Raw or at least png for file saving? I would like to try p20 pro just for that monochrome lens...
You can save RAW with the B&W camera but for some reason the pictures appear purple.
