Im planning to replace my Moto G4 Plus with a second handed S6 from ebay, but wich especific variant is best supported, most on ebay are AT&T and TMobile will that work to run moat ROMs?
G920F
Most (if not all) ROMs here support it, because it is the global variant, and as such, most people have that variant.
So model a and t wont work?

A is from AT&T.
T is from T-Mobile (I'm pretty sure, but not a 100% about this one).
They will work. But F is always supported by almost everything in this forum, because it is the most common. It has an advantage in support.
Those two will probably work just as well, but some mods/ROMs/tweaks may not be compatible.
If however you choose either A or T, I would suggest you make sure they're network unlocked.
Official Lineage OS only has a rom for the F version

So I've seen that it's possible to flash the US firmware between the carrier firmware and US international firmware (U). I'm wondering how that is possible since there were problems with the S6 international variants flashing US carrier firmware onto the phones. Does the U use the Snapdragon processor and that's what allows it to be flashed?
The reason I ask is because I know someone with the S6 international (G920I) on T-mobile and wishes to enable WiFi Calling but they don't have that option. I know that this isn't the S6 forum but I noticed people flashing U firmware onto their carrier branded phones and vise versa and figured that those who figured it out would have some understanding as to how it works. I just want to expand my knowledge of why he can't seem to find a solution even though there seems to be some compatibility there.
Thanks for the replies.

Well, it could be possible.. But since this is the forum for the international version of the s7, I think you might have better luck asking that same at the US s7 forums.

I thought this was the general S7 forum, covering all S7's?

Nope, this is only for the international version. For the US version there are four different forums, for all of the carriers. Here's a link to the T-mobile forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s7
My wife has a Verizon version of the S7, but our service just ended and she bought the Mintsim 12 month sim card today. From what I understand there was ONE version of the S7 made - that the software itself is what makes the phone activate the proper service antenna's. Since there is so many misleading topics - I wanted a definitive answer, can ANY S7 be activated on any service? If not which version of the S7 is the better version to work with? The Mintsim service uses T-mobile from what I understand, so if a verizon S7 doesnt work should I get the T-Mobile varient (it is the more expensive of the used versions on Swappa oddly) or ATT or?
You can flash any to the T-Mobile version for best results, or just flash the 930u firmware and have all bands.

Sounds good. If you decide to want it as a T-Mobile version all you need to do is flash that firmware in Odin.
I use Straight Talk (AT&T sim) in the US. I am looking to get a phone I can install a custom rom on. (Still researching which rom). Since the carrier-specific models of the S7/edge are about $100-200 less used, is there any reason NOT to get a carrier specific model?
Since I'm installing a custom rom, all carrier bloatware would be gone. Wouldn't this effectively be the same as the unlocked model, maybe without international capabilities which I probably wouldn't need anyway.
Is the AT&T model the only one that would work on Straight Talk (AT&T sim)? I'm looking for the cheapest variant that will work.
Thank you.
Some may have a locked bootloader making it impossible to flash TWRP / Custom ROMs

There aren't any, you need the canadian or international s7 if you want roms, all american phones have locked bootloaders, there's a half assed root for it but that's it.

Wouldn't the US unlocked version work? SM-G930U

The unlocked part refers to its ability to be used on any carrier, nothing to do with the bootloader, its still locked like all the other snapdragon phones.

Ahhhh....it boils down to the chipset. So the G930F with Exynos looks to be what I want for running a custom ROM.
Bingo.
Even if it doesn't do so out of the box, can ROM devs easily add support for it? Basically, what I'm asking is if the developer community will support this variant or should I kiss custom ROMs and kernels goodbye if I buy the upgraded version?

Depends what model you buy.
If you get the SM-G955FD in the 6GB/128GB configuration, all ROMs should work fine.
If you get the SM-G955N in the 6GB/128GB configuration, the same ROMs should work fine as well, some tinkering may be required, but they all work since the specs are the same.
If however you get the SM-G9550, then you won't be able to enjoy any of the ROMs in the ROM section.

If I'm not mistaken, the G9550 is the Chinese dual-sim version with the Snapdragon chip, right? The one I'm looking at is the G955FZKGINS which is the Indian dual-sim version with Exynos. Will this one work?

Yup, the 9550 is the SD835 Chinese variant.
The one you mentioned is the Indian Dual SIM, which is basically a G955FD, it'll work just fine with all the custom ROMs available for the S8+.
Guys may I know which version u have? This is the first time I'm going to try op phone so I don't want to make any unnecessary mistake.
Is there any difference between the two in terms of custom rom and rooting availability(such as samsung's exynos is easier to get custom rom and root than other version) ? Or any custom rom will fit to either version?
BTW I'm living in Indonesia, do both will work just fine on my country or do I need a specific version in order to use it here?
Thanks people.
need the answer too, some people said using A6000 outside india or china the 4g network may not working.

I have a6003 here in the u.s..
I have A6003 here in the UK
6003 here in Australia - this is the official International version.. There is a 6000 version going around, which seems to be India based - but is being sold as a "flashed OS" version and sold internationally. I would highly suggest getting the 6003 - it seems the most compatible
6003 is for europe/us.
6000 is for chinese/india.
The difference is just the supported bands (6003 supports much more) and the rom, the rom can be replaced easily.
6003 for US/EU/GLOBAL
6000 is for China/India (no play services, few bands missing etc)
this information was received from oneplus directly.
