Verizon VoLTE update - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

With OnePlus Android 9 software update, Verizon VoLTE IMS stack is fully supported and although the phone doesn't support Band 13, it registers to Verizon's IMS servers (Band 2, 4, 5, 66) and calls go through over LTE, up to AMR-WB at 12.65kbps (HD Voice).
- Device isn't provisioned for Verizon VoWiFi (Wi-Fi Calling).
- CDMA voice registration for this device is still rejected by Verizon.
- Support for T-Mobile's VoLTE and VoWiFi up to EVS (Enhanced HD Voice) has been present since launch.

This is exciting stuff for Verizon customers! I understand the technical aspects of this, but can you give anymore anecdotal feedback on what it's like to use the phone on Verizon? i.e. are you experiencing any dropped calls? What are your data speeds? How does the VZW experience differ from using the phone on another carrier?
When you say: "CDMA voice registration for this device is still rejected by Verizon" does that mean calls only connect over LTE? Or do you mean that the Verizon sim card needs to be registered before inserting into the phone? If calls only connect over LTE, how significant is that? Is it safe to say that everywhere on VZW's LTE map you'll be able to make/receive calls?
Thanks for the info!

I tried swapping my Verizon SIM over and calls work just fine over LTE bands 2 and 4. I can send texts as well, so now the only problem is I can't receive texts on Verizon.

Same. On the phone with tech support now.

You need a CDMA-LESS profile on the verizon sim card that you are using. The same things goes for the 6T and Razor phone 2. The incoming texts are going through cdma which the 6 does not support.

I'd sure like to use this phone on a verizon MVNO.

If you really want EVS, you can turn it on yourself. Using the EFS Explorer utility (from the QPST package) in the / efsprofiles / folder - write or write with replacement (if you already have such files in the folder) the overideconfig and overideconfig_Subscription01 files
This method is found on the Internet and verified. And this method works for any carrier if its infrastructure support EVS audio codec.

Service Mode / LTE Engineering Mode

Can someone please confirm if Service Mode dial codes work on Verizon S6 (Edge) variant? There are a few of them:
*#0011#
or
*#27663368378#
or
*#197328640#
or
*#2263#
If someone isn't sure what this does, it allows you to view which LTE frequency you're connected, what's the Bandwidth of the active LTE channel, what's the signal level and quality, if the Carrier Aggregation has been activated, even allows you to lock onto certain LTE bands, etc. So for example, if LTE on Band 13 is congested, you can force the phone onto Band 4, or Band 2, etc.
This is what it looks like on T-Mobile variant:

Thanks for the response. Once again we'll have to root the phone in order to enable this.
Verizon's been blocking this built in feature from their users for at least 3 years now... sigh

They've sometimes let the codes work, but neutered what's available for info/options underneath. I hate that Verizon does this.
I have a rooted Verizon S5 (not Edge). I tried your codes and, as expected, they didn't work.
What would I need to do as root to get them to work?

The instructions in milan's thread in the general section should work for your device. It's worth a shot.
YES! This worked. I can now access the Service Mode menus after setting the EFS file, as mentioned. Cool! Thanks!
NOTE: I had to use this code.
*#27663368378#
What do you mean by setting the EFS file?
I get an error: Connection problem or invalid MMI code.
my connection is fine, how can I fix my MMI code?
service mode menu
ok so i can access the service mode. but in the up right hand corner where it says "more" what do i enter in the input key option to access the menu for the service mode???
Perhaps you're better off not knowing, I stumbled across you because I'm ready after a long as time of rooting, lurking silently thru the forums, soaking myself up with information, and bricking a couple of devices, to add all the bands to my klte. You're eagerness only denounces your likelihood of messing things up and conning back like OMG WWIII somebody please HHHEEELLLPPPP!!! You're trailing dangerous territory not knowing

Pixel 3a EVS codec (Enhanced HD Voice) support and configuration on VoWiFi

Hi, I'm trying to get VoWiFi working on my Pixel 3a using the EVS codec (also known as "enhanced HD voice"). This is in the UK, so I'm using an EE SIM card but while I get the "enable WiFi calling" option in settings appear nothing happens when I turn it on or off. The phone didn't have any mobile reception at the time - does anyone know if I need to connect to the EE network first?
And I'm using standard Pixel 3a OS, no custom ROM or anything - does anyone know if this should "just work" or if there's any extra config to get VoWiFi and EVS working?
In my searching around for stuff on this topic a lot is focused on Verizon/T-Mobile, so it's been difficult to find anything specific the UK. If someone else has experience with Pixel 3a, EE network and Voice over WiFi I'd be grateful to know whether this worked, even if you're not sure what codec was used for calls.
Thanks,
Rob
I think the best answer is to contact your service provider directly. Every provider seems to handle it differently and it's best to get the information directly from the company. Let's just hope you get a service rep that knows what you are talking about!
Here's what I see, if it helps. Also UK, also EE.

Hi. I'm on EE in the UK with a Pixel 3a and have WiFi calling available. Firstly, are you on a contract with EE? WiFi/4G calling is not available with EE PAYG/Flex packages. I normally see WiFi calling available when at home but it didn't seem to be showing yesterday for some reason. It's working again today, maybe there was a problem or they were working on something. WiFi calling only shows on the lock screen, I haven't seen any indication elsewhere. My connection screen is exactly the same as Silently's above. Completely standard P3a here. Andy
Edited to add: I moved from EE Flex to contract, it took about 24 hours after initial connection for WiFi calling to appear.

Rom or just poor radio on 8T?

So my 8T is converted to global, and I have the EU 11.0.6.9 update installed.
I'm not sure if its just the updates or just the phone in general but I noticed it struggles, or rather sucks in certain areas that do not have the greatest reception in comparison to iPhones. I was recently on a job, where just about everyone with an iphone was able to lock in with a decent signal, meanwhile my 8T couldn't even get a single bar. Same carriers too.(TMO)
Anyone else notice this?
I think it's just the phone. There's an area on the highway near my house that has a low signal (in between two cell towers) and the 8T will drop out with no signal, where every other phone will be able to maintain at least 1 bar.
Oddly enough I've been signal in places where I didn't get signal with my last phone? Same sim card, both phones were running Lineage.
Of course there are so many factors, it's going to be hard to get "real" results.

If you happen to have the R14 or newer SIM card and 5G turned on, your phone could be preferring upgraded Sprint band 41 over other frequency bands. I've found that in some areas this doesn't work so well because the band is really touchy without having overlapping coverage. For that reason I change my data setting to 4G/3G/GSM. I don't believe the iPhones have that band or access to that band yet. It depends on the iPhone I guess.
I have a Sprint purchased, on TMO sim card per their instructions after the merger. I'm seriously considering MSM back to the T-Mobile software. For the simple reason of what you just described. I was blazingly fast 5G before the conversion. Now I struggle with even connection on Wi-Fi calling or no connection for phone calls at all out of my house it's horrible.
And what the hell is the the H in my data on notification bar.

The room may have put an older baseband on the phone which can causes issues like this.

VOLTE or no VOLTE which is it? Plz help

The Pixel 2 I purchased for my father stopped working a few days ago, with the 3G shutdown going on. His carrier is Consumer Cellular which uses AT&T towers exclusively. So from what I understand phones on AT&T's network will be required to have VOLTE. I'm a bit confused as to whether or not this phone is indeed capable of using VOLTE. In the settings menu under network type, the only two options shown, are 3G or LTE, and when I pull up the secret menu via the dialer app, it shows this phone is not provisioned for VOLTE. Can that be changed? See attachment, even AT&T's own documentation states that after the 3G shutdown, the Pixel 2 will continue to work on their network. Currently, with the phone set to LTE mode, internet is working at full 4G speeds, but the phone will not dial out or can receive calls. It fails instantly. Now when the phone is put in 3G mode, both incoming and outgoing calls can be made no problem, but internet is much slower. Predicatably the Consumer Celluar agents are clueless, and since were not account holders with AT&T, they won't talk to me. So at this point, we either find a way to get the Pixel 2 working, or I buy him a new phone. He wants to stay with Consumer Cellular. If anyone has any insight, would be greatly appreciated. SO FRUSTRATING!!
thanks

FWIW, I have the exact same issue with my Galaxy S8 on Consumer Cellular. It's on AT&T's list of supported devices but calls fail immediately when on LTE network. Switching to 3G makes calls work for now, but I know that's only a temporary solution. When I put in the IMEI on Consumer Cellular's website, it even says the phone is supported!
We have been very happy with Consumer Cellular in the past, but our experience with this issue has been really frustrating.
We switched to T-Mobile Prepaid and everything worked as soon as we put in the new SIM: VoLTE, WiFi Calling, etc. Goodbye Consumer Cellular I guess.

My Moto g 5g doesn't give me the "select preferred network option". I want to use 4g

I bought this unlocked from Amazon. Using boost mobile infinite
I called boost they said it should be able to be done from the phone
I called Motorola they said call boost

What is your model number? Is this a 5G Plus, or Stylus, or...?
We have device specific sections that you'll probably get more help in, so if we know where this thread needs to go, we can move it for you.

It's regular moto g 5g 2022 that is the model name.
You should have a toggle for 'Allow 5G' that will do what you want. If not, use the dial code *#*#4636#*#* and pick an appropriate config under Phone information -> Set Preferred Network Type that does not start with 'NR'.

Awesome. Where can I find the breakdowns of each network type. Which one is 3g. I think 4g is LTE
On the TMO network 2G is GSM, 3G is WCDMA, LTE is 4G, and NR is 5G. CDMA/EvDo would be for Verizon 2G/3G. TDSCDMA was developed in China so you won't see it deployed in the US.
