Question about custom ROM and going back to stock - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody, I have a SM-G920F with android 7.0 rooted with magisk and TWRP, but with stock ROM.
I'm planning to give NexusOS 9.0 a try and do :
Backup my data and settings with TitaniumBackup
Backup everything in TWRP
Flash ROM,magisk,Gapps according to NexusOS's thread
If I want to go back to Stock, what do I have to do ? As of now, I would think of :
download my latest firmware on https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s6/SM-G920F/
Flash it through Odin by selecting the firmware in "AP"
But do I need to do anything else before/after flashing stock ROM, like wiping something ?

Is there a way to revert custom ROM to stock and keep the phone rooted?

Also, how can I tell what were the previous versions of Android that my phone had (STOCK)?
For example: there were several 5.1.1 versions or 5.0. versions - how do I know which one do I need?
Thanks.
The easiest way to have a routed rom would be to flash a stock rom from Google, flash twrp, and flash supersu from twrp.

Sorry if I didn't explain myself - my phone is rooted and I have a custom ROM. What I want to do is to go back to stock ROM but keep it rooted.
Thanks.
Flash a stock rom, then just root the stock rom. There is no other way unless you flash a stock pre-rooted rom.

So you can't keep it rooted while flashing stock?
And how do you know which versions are for your phone (if I don't want to go back to the latest Marshmallow for example)?
You can only keep root when flashing stock if you find a prerooted stock image.
Google search for nexus factory images.

Yes, I know that I need to Google for factory image, but there are several images with the same release. For example, there are three 5.1.1. (LMY48B, LMY48I and LMY48M). Same with 6.0.0. and 4 X 6.0.1 version. How do you know which one is for my device?
Thanks.
Any stock image for hammerhead will work on a hammerhead device. The reason it will delete root is you will have to flash system, and unless the system image you flash is prerooted, no more root.

Just trying to understand that difference between the different versions, or are these simply system updates, from XXX29K to XXX29S for example?
Changes in the android version 5.0->5.1->6.0 are fairly large system updates. Within 5.1.1 they are security patches.
If you have a rooted phone and talk about flashing, you should know this. Else you are a menace to your phone...
Root is a system modification - if you delete or reinstall the System partition, you'll lose root. But re-root is easy.
I recommend to read tutorials and get some knowledge before trying to root, flash or before asking those questions, where Senior xda-members just shake their heads.
The simple way to do what you seem to want is to back up all your important stuff (photos, etc.), install MMB29V (the latest March 1st 6.0.1 security version), install TWRP 3.0.0.0, and from TWRP flash SuperSU v2.70. It will take slightly longer than it's taken me to type this, but not much...
After that, when a new monthly security version comes out, flash system.img, boot.img & radio.img, and repeat the TWRP & SuperSU steps. No data loss.

Is it possible to flash stock firmware eventhough I installed TWRP?

Hi Guys.
I've reached a state of confusion reading about OTA-updates, TWRP and root. My question question is this:
I installed TWRP, flashed the verity opt encryption kernel and rooted my G930F. Everything works and all is good. But with the new Chainfire AUTO-ROOT (is it X.72?) OTA-updates has been disabled.
I'm confused about the reason for this. Does this mean that I risk bricking my phone if I at some point in timez deside to flash stock rom via ODIN? Or will this just replace TWRP with original recovery and overwrite root?
Sorry for my noob-mind. I'm new to Samsung devices.
Best regards.
If you flash stock rom via Odin TWRP will be deleted and stock recovery will be installed. You will also lose root privileges. Make sure you have a backup before flashing stock via Odin. Once restored stock rom via odin follow same steps you took the first time you rooted your phone.

Samsung S7 G930F - Need workaround for installing ROM via Odin, TWRP overwritten

Hey there,
I have a nasty problem with my Samsung S7 G930F.
Rooting went fine, wiped everything to get access to the internal storage for backup. Now I need the German version of Vodafone ROM to use Wifi Calling which is really essential for me.
However I only get this ROM at Sammobile which must be flashed via Odin then. When I flash the ROM everything I did before gets lost, TWRP gets overwritten by a Android Recovery.
If I reinstall TWRP now, the wipe - which is necessary for backup or Xposed - is gone.
Everytime I try to install the ROM everything is replaced, even if I put in HOME_CSC file at CSC in Odin.
I really need this special ROM, however it is pretty important to get access to backup and Xposed.
Is there any way to preserve my TWRP status AND installing the new ROM? Or maybe there is a way to convert the Odin tar files to a zip which can be flashed in recovery?
Thank you so much!

Oreo Custom ROMs on Canadian W8 variant - Anyone successful?

Given that the Oreo S7 update has now been delayed, I've been trying to flash a variety of the custom BTU and Note 8 ported ROMs on my Canadian W8 variant. Every single one I've tried will put me into a bootloop or hang at the S7 logo. I feel like I must be doing something wrong and would appreciate any help if possible.
I'm currently using the Superman Nougat ROM v2.5.0
I've tried the following steps:
Doing a full wipe - Reboot to TWRP - Wiping everything except SD - Reboot to TWRP
Installing each ROM either using AROMA or flashing no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip then installing the zip for the ROM and/or flashing Magisk-v16.4(1642) and/or SuperSUv2.82
I've chosen both updating the bootloader and modem and NOT updating the bootloader and modem, but no difference. I've tried all different combinations above and I've tried flashing stock via ODIN beforehand.
If anyone has had any success with flashing any of the Oreo ROMS out there on the W8, please let me know which ROM you are using and what steps you've taken to flash successfully. It would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much!
Updates?
I am running W8 on Alex DevBase ROM 5.8 (WAS running)
I Odin flashed back to Oreo stock tho recently.
Best of luck.
You need to update to oreo with odin first
Just flash stock oreo, install twrp.
After that you gonna be able to use oreo rom.
I'm on superman 3.0.1 right now.
I'm using Resurrection Remix on the W8 S7 right now.

I did flash stock Oreo via Odin (lost root)
I CAN flash TWRP but getting root is where I run into problems. What am I doing wrong?
I did find that Dev OP from Superman posted an updated TWRP specific for Oreo S7 maybe I should try that one?

Back to stock firmware

Hi guys! I have a newbie question, I have a CustomRom and I would like to go back to stock. Do I need to backup something? Or just simoly download the official s8+ firmware and flash it with Odin( and which version?)?
Thanks in advance!
Just download official firmware and flash with odin 3.13
backup is optional, but usually it's recommended.
