How do we fix notifcations and not app shutting down ? - Vivo Nex Guides, News, & Discussion

This reminds me a lot of older Huawei days I hate with my Mate 8...so I am little bit familiar.. that we have to whitelist.
But can some one tell me what I need to do for the apps that have push notifications ?
Is it 2 or 3 places I need to white list ???
From what I remember from my Huawei days was... I did only whitelist apps that used push notifcation or that was a multimedia app for video or audio, the others dont need to run in the background really..
so the concept are not wrong.. but.. I think vivo software should detect if the app want to use push notifications and ask the user if we want to allow that or not...it would make the set up more simple.
I could probably figure it out myself but this would save time..and also its good information for other new owners of the device. Besides this I am super happy with this Vivo Device, its clear to me that Vivo is the next Huawei, the only bad thing about vivo is their pricing, Vivos brand is not strong outside china so it will take time for them to build up same brand as huawei.

We need to Allow Apps to AutoStart & Run in the Background
Funtouch OS Kills most apps in the background in order to achieve better battery life and you would often find yourself missing notifications from your apps like whatsapp, telegram, instagram, twitter etc. You have to allow them to Autostart & Whitelist them/Allow to run in the background if you want to receive timely notifications. To do so follow the below:
* Settings > More Settings > Permission Management > Autostart (Select your preferred apps)
* Settings > Battery > High Background Power Consumption > Select apps
Allow the apps to continue running in the background so keep receiving notifications instantly.
I recommend most social media apps and messenger apps like Whatsapp, Telegram, Instagram, Twitter along with your Widgets and any other applications that are important for you to keep active.
Hope this helps :fingers-crossed:

that is OK...try using the SofaScore application but not with home wifi network...try with mobile network, I think the notifications in this case are not coming regularly

One more thing I figured out is to make sure background data is on. It is hard to find in the settings. I wasn't getting my email notifications for the stock email app even with all the settings correct.
i somehow found that the background data was off for some reason for that app. Turned it on now everything works great.

I have Nova Launcher. Press and hold the settings spp. You should see a pop up that says battery, data and wifi. Go to data. In there go to data usage. Find the app you are not getting notifications. Check to see if background data is enabled. I don't know how to find this setting by not using Nova Launcher.
Hope this helps.

What setting couldn't you find? The man settings icon in your app drawer. Press and hold. A pop up should appear. Should say Battery, Data and Wifi. Hit the data. On this page, go to Mobile Data Used. There should be a list of apps that have used data. Find the app you are looking for and make sure background data is on. Or even go through the list and turn off background data to apps you don't want. If the app you are looking for isn't there, try again after you have used the phone for a while. Give the app some time to show up.
This is the only way I know of getting to this setting.

What app are you having issuea with out of curiosity?
I keep having issues with the stock email app. Third party email apps work properly.

Ok, I have a problem with notifications.
It's annoying that you can't drag the notifications screen down from the top in the lockscreen, it only works after you unlock the phone.
Also, some notifications in the lock screen don't fully show, they are also not responsove to touch(as to expanding the notification in the lockscreen to show more info)
I can only see what they say after I unlock the phone, drag the top down and press the little arrow that now appears on the right side of google notifications as in the example pics below
The arrow is not there in lock screen, I can't "expand" notifications in lockscreen...
You understand what I mean???
Lockscreen notification 1 st pic and unlocked screen notification second after I press the little arrow
Same for example when I got multiple whatsapp messages, in other phones in the lock screen I touch the notification in the lockscreen and "drag" it down, it expands to show me the messages, in the Nex this is not possible
Any fix? Thanks

Try remove com.vivo.pem in adb shell.

This is very common issue between Chinese software iOS style like Funtouch,MIUI,EMIU.
They don’t support expandable notifications on lock screen neither option like reply or delete from various app like Viber,WhatsApp,outlook, messenger,Gmail.
You can’t resolve it even with third party app because Google remove with Oreo overlays management on lock screen from third party app.
Only when native being supported by OEM.
Unfortunately Chinese OEM interact badly to core Android OS by removing basic features like expandable notifications.
All other non Chinese skin support this feature(Samsung,LG,Sony etc)
The only Chinese OEM support it is OnePlus because of Oxygen skin being stock based.

Thanks for the reply. I made a side by side comparison vixeo with a samsung s 6 and sent it to Vivo on Facebook. Customer service has been amazing I must say

I have the Chinese version of the NEX. Settings\Status Bar and Notifications\Manage Notifications. On my list I have apps listed including my Android messaging app, which lets me select detailed message info on my lock screen.

But you can’t reply or delete a massage(WhatsApp Viber,Facebook messenger etc)or email(Gmail, outlook)through lock screen since does not let you expand on it.
And if you get long massage with many words characters you can’t read all of the massage but half only, unless unlocked the screen and pull down notifications center.
Vivo software does not support expand notifications on lock screen just like non Chinese android skin.
I had the same issue with Huawei and Xiaomi device when I had it.
Take a look at this screenshot.
I’ve got 3 emails from outlook but I can’t read the details each one also not having option of reply or delete each massage.
The same with Gmail I can’t expand so I can’t read the whole message and just like outlook I can’t delete or reply directly through lock screen.
In both situations I have to unlocked the phone and the pull down notifications center and only then let me do that.

[APP] NoLED v6.0.19 - Use the AMOLED screen for incoming notifications

Before asking questions, please read the FAQ.
Introduction:
I saw the idea posted somewhere previously that instead of getting the capacitive lights on, we really should be putting the phone's AMOLED screen to work ! specially that it doesn't consume any backlight energy when displaying a black screen. So I developed an app that does just that: upon receiving a notification, it will display a black screen with a dot or icon somewhere in the screen. I really should put these in bullet points..
Description:
the application does the following:
1. When your phone receives a notification, it switches the screen on and displays a notification. The notification bounces around every 3 seconds (changeable via an option). This will guarantee using different LEDs so that the same ones won't be burned out.
2. You can customize whether to have a dot or an icon for each type of supported notification. Users may also customize the colors of these icons/dots.
3. NoLED will work with SMS/MMS, Gtalk, Gmail, Missed calls, Voicemail, Calendar and K-9 (email client) without any additional permissions. Any other 3rd party software (e.g. Whatsapp, Email app, Yahoo Mail and Hotmail) will need to be checked under Monitored Apps and will require granting Accessibility rights to NoLED.
4. The app runs as a service, after installing, you have two ways to activate the app. (a) by restarting. (b) by loading the widget into your home screen and clicking on it.
5. To get rid of the notification screen, you may use the home or the back key. You can enable dismissal via more keys in the Miscellaneous submenu. Once your notifications are dismissed, all notifications disappear and will not come back up.
I have also logged the touch drivers and saw that although I'm displaying a black screen and setting flags to not respond to touch messages, android is still receiving touch messages when you touch any spot on the screen. This, I imagine, consumes resources! So I disabled the touch drivers when the black screen is active. Dismissing the notifications should reactive the touch drivers. If your screen is unresponsive to touch even after the notification screen is dismissed, a simple restart should take care of it. There is also an option to completely disable that feature. The touch drivers are only disabled on the Samsung Galaxy S variants, all other devices are still receptive to touch events.
Now the touchscreen drivers were a lot easier to mess around with. The sourcecode given by samsung helped me achieve the activation/deactivation of the screen. Things are not the same with the capacitive buttons. You'll notice that when the black screen is on, if you touch any of the soft buttons, they'll light up (although am suppressing them programatically). On some other devices like the Nexus S, these backlights cannot be switched off once the screen is turned on programatically. This is a bug from Google and more info is in the FAQ.

Change log
v6.0.19 6/5/2013
Added Vietnamese, updated Italian and Ukranian (Thanks nhh1994, 4lex and Olex)
Support Gmail 4.5 and new tabbed inbox
NoLED will insert a .nomedia in the custom themes folder so as not to show these themes in your Gallery app

NoLED Weather
v0.8 10/23/2012
Weather should now reflect current city more accurately; it will choose the first returned search result.
v0.7 10/10/2012
Weather was not automatically updating after a restart. Now it does.
v0.5 9/13/2012
Fixed an issue where geolocator was causing auto-update to stop working.
v0.4 9/6/2012
Updated language files
Changed weather provider to MSN. Google just quietly killed their APIs
Changed geolocator timeout to 90 seconds (used to be 20 seconds)
v0.3 1/26/2012
Added Geolocation using Wireless networks (no physical GPS will be used).
-it will give up wireless location discovery after 20 seconds (will release all wakelocks).
-if timedout, weather will query the latest weather location on record.
Removed the noled weather icon from the app launcher (i personally found it so ugly and useless). Instead, you access the weather app/plug-in via the NoLED settings under toggle notifications (requires NoLED > v5.0.1b).

Strange, it really should work.
Did you lock the screen and unlock once after installation ? Try sending a sms to yourself from another phone while the screen is off. Then wait for about 10 seconds (enough time for the whole screen to light up, go off, and then show a notification). Let me know if this still doesn't work, the captivate might have different screen timeouts than our galaxy S.
No working
Its now working on my SGS.
The reason could be > I have lost my default notifications after sd card fix. I do have a media folder on my sdcard/sd with default samsung tones which i copied before the fix on to my ext sd.
Any solutions ?

I would say try to sms from another phone, or give yourself a missed call to see if the application is running. These should work regardless of where you placed your notification tones.
If these do work, then make sure you place your notification tones in /sdcard/sd/media/audio/notifications , playing any of them should trigger the notification.
Unfortunatly not working for me too. Using JG1 and modaco´s r2. All default ringtones selected.
Would love to get this working.

Can you go to Settings > Applications > Running Services and see whether NoLED is listed there ?
suggestions that i don't think would consume too much power:
Have different images for different notifications, as suggested before: phone icon for call, mail icon for mail, sms icon for sms etc.
Also make possible to have all the different icons at once, so if i have missed a text message and a mail, there would be 2 icons on the screen at the same time.
Also have a number for how many of missed text's, mails i have missed on the corresponding icon.
Make the image jump to a different random spot every few second, so it won't just stay in one place and so be bad for the panel. (dunno if this would consume too much energy).

I think these are two great ideas. I'll try to implement them if I get sometime. I will try to set a different icon/color for each notification, and make them move around every few seconds. This might have a hit on cpu utilization, but its well worth a try.

With what are you testing the application btw ? Are you sending an email to yourself ? If you turn the screen off, send an email that has a default samsung ringtone, do you receive anything?
I tested it with my phone at home calling my mobile. And i´m getting emails all the way but unfortunatly no red dot on screen.
Is this app in the market? I can't see it in the op on the xda app.
Now it is working. Changed the ringtone (the old one selected was also a dtandard ringtone) and rebooted.
Now it works!
How come this method got so quickly made, but the other method still isn't functional? (talking about the other thread)

well, the android SDK allows for programs like this to exist, the SDK has no APIs to support lighting up the soft buttons. that's why.
also, the drivers for the backlight are disabled and enabled in ways that we don't fully understand yet.
Very impressed so far! Definitely something I'll donate to in the future if it gets a few more features.
What I'd like to see:
- Custom colours for different notifications/multiple notifications.
- The dot slightly higher up or have it configurable where the dot is/how big it is.
That's about all I can think of for now, great work .

New Android user, Notifications Question

I just came from an iPhone 4 and this is my first Android phone (I've used a touchpad with CM9) and I have a fairly simple question which I can't seem to figure out.
When you receive an SMS, or any notification for that matter, the phone will beep or vibrate but the screen remains black.
How can I change the settings to have the screen light up and show the notification I just received like iOS does. I assumed this would just be a standard setting but after searching the phone and internet for about 10 minutes I gave up.
Thank You and sorry for the noobiness. Plz dont kill me I swear im not trolling.

i'm guessing he means without 3rd party apps... in which case, i don't think it's possible - at least until we get custom roms.
that's one thing i really miss about my GSII - that, and BLN. the LED on this HOX is so small, i tend to miss it, even if it's blinking.
So wait, your telling me there's no feature built into ICS that makes any sort of a notification pop up on screen on? That's absolutely ridiculous. What am I supposed to do for push emails? Just listen to the beep and have to go toggle the screen each time I get one to see if its important or not?

you should still get the notifications if your screen is on... i thought you were talking about making SMS and emails light up the display on your screen when the screen is off and you're not using the phone. if you are using the phone, and you get an SMS or email - assuming you are not currently in either of those programs - you should still get a notification.
if you are in fact talking about getting the screen to light up when you receive SMS or email and the screen is off... then yeah, unfortunately, you just have to hear the tone or feel the vibration, and if you miss that, look for the LED. eventually there will be support for making the screen light up, and even BLN (back light notification - where the capacitative keys light up when you receive a SMS or email) - but it's going to take custom kernels for that stuff to happen.

Um, you had to do the same thing with an iPhone. If you missed the initial screen turn on you had to do exactly that. Toggle the screen. Before iOS 5 it was even worse. So calm down and explore your HOX. While you will have to toggle your screen, to make up for it you can customize your lockscreen to quickly allow you to see certain notifications.
If you go to settings -> personalize -> lock screen style and select productivity you'll be able to keep track of your notifications extremely easily.
Otherwise yeah, an easily installed, non-invasive app can quickly fix your problem. If a text makeover isn't what you want check out an app called SMS Flash. It's my favorite least intrusive UI notification pop up. You can't reply from it like you could from SMS Popup or Go SMS Pro pop up notifications, but it does show you them and is slightly customizable.
If you go into the messaging app, then go to settings > notifications. There is an option called notification preview. This will turn on the screen and show you a preview of the SMS you just received.
Also under Personalize > Lockscreen, then select the second option called productivity. This will list all of your active notifications on the screen similar to iOS.
You can also access the notification tray from the lockscreen, provided you don't have any sort of security on (PIN, Pass, Etc).
I also think you're being a bit nit picky about not having the screen light up for every notification. That is just as easy to miss as anything else. You have to be looking at the phone to see that. If I'm working on the computer the sound of a tone or vibrate is much more likely to get my attention. You turn the screen on to check the notification when you're ready... I don't really see a problem. Turning the screen on for anything other than incoming calls/texts seems like a waste of battery to me.
Android is a bit different in that the options aren't centralized. Options for notifications are within each app itself. Some apps (like Facebook app Friendcaster) may include optional popup notifications.

pretty sure that SMS option won't make your screen light up when you receive texts... all it does is place the notification in a square in the middle of your lockscreen, so that when you hit the power button to unlock your phone, you see that square on your lockscreen, rather than having to look for the little icon in the upper left corner of your notification bar.
You get a notification up top....fyi you can pull down the notification bar down and check whatever on the lock screen. You don't actually have to unlock this phone to access notification bar. Love it. My infuse was not the same.

i actually prefer it NOT to be built in to the OS....i have this thing called CHOICE here in the Android world....and I choose NOT to have that feature baked in....i dont want my screen coming on at all, unless i tell it to.....i fail to see how having a third party app that handles this, a bad mark
Handcent SMS is a really good messaging app (better than default IMO). It has a setting that turns the screen on when a message is received. I'm not sure about email because I have never bothered to look for an alternative.
@Pirateghost What if you still had the CHOICE to install a 3rd party app that kept your screen off? Everyone has different preferences, and the OP is upset it isn't available in the stock app. Seems reasonable to me.

Agreed.
Secondly, unless the phone is directly in front of you at all times and you're able to see the screen light up right then and there, then I don't see a difference. If the phone is in your pocket and the screen lights up but you failed to hear the notification, you're still screwed.

So I thought I was going nuts, but indeed, somehow. I am getting edge-lighting effect notifications on the Always On Display. It looks cool, but I have no idea how to set it, or what exactly is even triggering it! I think it is emails, but I use a third party mail app anyways.
Anyone else getting this?
it's just this setting
I have a similar setting, but mine looks way different than yours!
its on, but only some apps trigger it. Is that normal?
For example, Blue Mail does, but the OEM messaging app does not.
Thanks for your help

Only the apps that show on AOD will trigger the edge colours as far as I'm aware.

Is this setting point related to regions? My region is germany and i do not have the option to set this effect
I'm as well get no notifications like whatsapp on the AOD, is this normal? (MIUI 10.0.11.0 Stabel)
Edge lighting notifications on Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 has not been advertised or reviewed adequately. I also noticed it coming randomly on AOD during certain notifications.
Now, I am using the android app "Always On Edge" (AOE), which lets me customize it beautifully so I never miss a notification. There is a nice tutorial in the AOE for Xiaomi phones and one should read it to make changes in the settings before the app works properly.

A link to the tutorial please?
I followed the xiaomi tips in the apps help section and it just won't work for me with everything set up correctly.
There is no web page link. I paid $2 for the app and not sure if it is needed for it to work properly.
I will type the changes I did to the settings after reading under AOE settings ( "settings" on AOE app; click on "not working" tab then scroll to Xiaomi ( I am assuming you did that);
First, modify in the phone settings;
1) type in the search bar "Permissions": Autostart: enable AOE.
2) type in the search bar "Installed Apps": AOE (always on edge): Battery saver-no restrictions.
3) Under Lock screen & password; click on notifications; choose "show animation".
4) Power-off and restart the phone.
Second, change AOE App settings;
1) Allow this app to run without restrictions under "app restriction"
2) Un-check "manually" under the tab "how to start"
3) Check "when a notification comes" screen always off/on.
I am using it without the ambient display in my phone, but it works either way.

Mi Mix 3 Notification Issues

I've just yesterday gotten a Mi Mix 3 and set it up accordingly, and I'm finding MIUI okay as a whole except for some issues with notifications I'm having. Basically:
Some apps that send push notifications will only send them to the notification shade. No notification icon, no pop-up alert, no lock screen notification (more on that later), no sound, no vibration, no notification light. This is all completely independent of the notification settings of the app. I can turn everything on and it still won't show. Some apps show fine, such as discord and messages, but they still won't show on the lockscreen:
No notifications showing on the lockscreen at all. For apps that do send notifications, only the sound and notification light will display when I receive one, but checking both the lockscreen and notification shade whilst the phone is locked will show me nothing until I unlock it. This is while "Lock screen notifications" is enabled in the app notification channel.
No per-app notification sounds. This is most likely less of a bug and more of a missing implementation, but since this is a base Android feature now is there alternate way to enable these?
Settings specific to these issues:
In "Lockscreen & Password / Advanced Settings / On Lock Screen" the phone is set to "Show all notifications and their contents".
In "Lockscreen & Password / Notifications" it's set to "Show Animation".
In "Notifications & Status bar" "Show notification icons" and "Show on lock screen" is on.
MIUI version is fully updated at 10.2.1.
Anyone got any idea?
Many thanks
For me i had to activate it for each app seperately, that i wanted notifications from. Except for apps that already gave me notifications like snapchat. I know i had to do it manually on instagram for example

Strangely, by going into the app notification settings and changing the settings off and on again it seems to have fixed the problem? At least for the actual app's I've tested (twitter and discord).
I've also tried with an app called push notification tester however and this has the same 1. and 2. issues. I'm not sure what the difference is but if it works for important stuff at least that's what matters.
To everyone else the 3rd question still stands; is there a way to get app-specific notification sounds in MIUI 10?
The simple solution is to install a non-MIUI-based ROM.
Have someone found out how to set per app notification sound?

LOL. Stop fat-shaming it! Weight was one of my biggest concerns coming from a Galaxy S5, and the MM3 is heavy, but you do get used to it after a couple of weeks.

Literally burst out laughing in a meeting where I'm the lowest man on the totem pole by far, oops.
I'm having this same problem again myself
Even Xiaomi apps like YiCam don't work right half the time.
The notification inconsistency in MIUI is one of the biggest reasons that I just listed mine for sale. No matter how many times I've gone through individual app settings and overall notification settings, it never works as expected. And my expectation is only for it to work as the settings that I've selected indicate. It makes me a little sad actually... this was my first Xiaomi device and I ended up liking MIUI way more than I thought I would (especially compared to EMUI... which is complete trash). Oh well... on to the next.
I run an app called Notification Repeater(apk) and it seems to address any of the inconsistencies that MIUI has with Notifications(or lack there of). I use another app called AutoNotification(by joaomgcd on the Play Store i believe) to block some notifications such as "x app is diplaying over other apps" that never seem to go away.
I know it kind of sucks to have to find a work around to use a phone when realistically it would be nice if your phone just worked the way you wanted it to out of the box..but since installing these apps i have been more than happy with my current situations when it comes to Notifications.
I've also had similar problems. In addition to manually turning on each apps notification in settings (Have to remember this for every time I download an app as well) I've aslo downloaded the app 'Notification Repeater' which has helped significantly. I get absolutely ZERO notifications on the lock screen though which is something I still haven't figured out how to fix without switching ROMs. I hope someone can figure something out.

It is sort of thick but is the densest phone I've ever held. Got used to it after a week or two though, I don't think it's a deal breaker

Question Notifications help with S22 Ultra

Hello everybody,
I got my device yesterday and i am still trying to sort things and settle down.
I have one question which is driving me nuts.
In my previous phones (latest being OnePlus 6t), i could make the apps (such as instagram and WhatsApp) not to show the message but only the notification badge and how many things i am missing (such as 2 messages, 2 chats or 2 messages 1 chat).
On S22 Ultra, i can hide the context on AOD but the context is always seen on while the phone is unlocked/on homescreen.
Would appreciate if you can help me solve this issue.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Press the notification till you see "settings" menu. Select the notification type you want (push the text, for ex. "new messages for sim 1") Than select "silent" and enable app icon badges. You should be ok.
Nope didn't work. Still can see the message there.
In Settings>Notifications> Lock screen (Display), do you have 'hide content' set?

you mean it makes just beep sound and doesnot wake up screeen? right?

Nope,
This was how my old phones used to act;
If the screen was off, it would wake briefly, show the whatsapp icon and go back to turned off screen.
On the lock screen, when i wake the phone, it would show the whatsapp icon and that is all.
On home screen, when i scroll down, it would show whatsapp icon and number of chats and messages but not the details of the messages (like 2 chats, 3 messages).
But wouldn"t give details like "Nicole: How are you doing"
My new S22 Ultra acts like below;
On lock screen, it acts correct. Only whatsapp image pops when i receive a message.
When it is awake and when it is on home screen, it pops the whole message for me to read. And when i pull down the notification pane, the whole message is there for me to read.
I have fingerprint activated on my whatsapp.
Now, if anybody can read and reply to the whatsapp message by pulling down the notification menu, what the hell is the reason of a fingerprint layer on whatsapp entry...
They can simple send one message to me and they can see whole of the newly received messages.
As well as, this causes the above mentioned issue. Where people can read delicate messages when i am showing something else in a different app...

Yes i do.
That hides it only when phone is locked.
Let me try to post some pics of what i am trying to explain.
Alright got the pics.
At first, you can see the lock screen acts as it should. Doesn't show the context/content
But on the second screen, where it is notification menu scrolled down, the message can be read.
And the same happens if i am doing something with the phone when the message is received.
So, people looking at my screen can see the message.
Please also note fingerprint login is also enabled for my whatsapp. So this totaly kills the point of fingerprint log in.
And when i figure this out, i will also need to hide other notifications as well.
When i receive an email, i will show how it was on my other phone's notification panel.
Since whatsapp doesn't allow multiple devices at once (cellular) i can't show with whatsapp message.
I hope this gives a general idea of what i am trying to sort out.
And here how it was on my old phone. It shows content hidden on notification menu for the apps i have closed preview of.
Whatsapp, instagram etc.
The reason there are 2 separate outlooks is one is a calendar alert and other is actual email.
If i had like 5 mails and no alerts, it would show as one outlook and say 5 emails with one notification.
you can also see that instagram is also hidden as content.

At least i sorted the WhatsApp.
Having 2 messaging app doesn't help.
One doesn't have the options you showed, but it also have the block/blacklist option.
I also need to find where the app lock is on Samsung. Where i can fingerprint lock the apps i choose to.

I presume that's your Android messaging version there, cause i only use the Samsung one.
You'll find it in Play Store
I need help!
One thing I had hate on my 22 Ultra is the combined notification sounds. I want to separate system sounds, text messages sounds and app sounds. Nothing seems to be working. It all comes back to this screen and it's all combined. I need away to separate them.
Any help?

Go to Apps section.
Select the app you want to configure.
Click on Notifications.
Notification categories.
You will be able to select individual sounds for everything separately.
Some will be trial and error tho
