I was wundering of it's possible to use the Dex-docking wij the Note9. I know jou only need a hdmi cable, but I alrrady have a Dex-docking and I also want several port like LAN and usb. I could use an adapter but that would cost me €100 euro and I already have a Dex-Dock.
I was afraid to try it out, scared that I would break the dex-function in my New Note9

I have read review and note 9 works with dex cradle. Review stated that booted almost instantly in cradle when it takes sometime with hdmi cable only

I have tested it and it works.
But the docking automatically turns-off the screen of my device. And that is just the new feature of the Note9 that you can stil use your screen. Infact you can use it as an Mouse pad.
But I am glad it Works...

Bare with me here... though this may turn into a convoluted solution.
I already own a galaxy s2, along with the HDMI adaptor for it (I believe this is a microUSB -> HDMI adaptor?)
Unfortunatly, the Note does not have microUSB ports, or even a normal USB port. So, I was going to buy this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/eKit-Connec...1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1353974512&sr=1-2
Unfortunately, of course, this also does not have microUSB. But it does have miniUSB and normal USB.
So if I get an adaptor such as - http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002O1S8...de=asn&creative=22218&creativeASIN=B002O1S8IE
...Will this mean I can use my current S2 HDMI adaptor, on my Note10.1?
While this may seem overly complex, my reasoning is (I think) sound. I will be getting the USB adaptor block anyway, because it is compact and universally useful. And I already own the hdmi adaptor (a Note-specific one is £25 minimum...far as I can see).
So the only extra expense is the £2 for a micro-mini USB adaptor. Saving me £23.
...assuming this will even work.
Any notions?
I do not know for sure but I thought I read somewhere the first adapter will not allow video pass through. Sorry I do not know where I read that at.
I use the hdmi adapter made for the original tab 10.1 and have had no issues. I think its 30$ on Samsung website but i'm sure you could find it cheaper on Amazon or Ebay. Or even an off brand for that matter. Sorry Its not much but I hope that helps.

That was my plan. The galaxy S2hdmi cable is a micro-USB to hdmi converter.
Apparently the 4in1 USB adapter doesn't let any video signal through though. Uyoud have to buy a 30pin to hdmi adapter instead.
Just tried my mhl adapter from my one x no joy shame really maybe someone will find away around it
Hi Guys,
I've got my HDTV Adapter for a stock Galaxy Note 10.1, I'm a bit disappointed because it looks like it's mandatory to connect the charger (the cable already has got an extra slot for connecting the charger) in order to make the note send what it is displayed on its screen to the cable so I can see it on the computer screen for example.
Does anybody have an idea if this is true or not ? I'd love the idea if it is an option but not an obligation !!!!

My experience is yes, power is required. But this can be as easy as plugging in the usb to the tv or monitor if it has a usb port, you dont HAVE to use the charger

Well, let me tell you why I'm a bit disappointed, I used to have an iPad which used in a lot of meetings moving here in and there with my pad and cable, now I've to have a power source around or even a computer, with a at least two cables with/without a charger, I'm not bothered with that at home but while one business this note didnn't prove to be a stand-alone, I'm not sure if an app that may simulate charging can deceicve tthe note on that aspect or not but so far, this can be considered a draw-back

it works, you need a 5pin mhl adapter. (the one for galaxy s2)
it's pointless tho, you will get stuck at 1080p30 on full hd tvs, making it choppy for playing anything other than 30 fps videos
I've used a generic USB-HDMI cable with the Relay and it works. The Relay does NOT use Mini or Micro HDMI. It outputs HDMI over USB. This is called MHL. You can read about it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_High-Definition_Link
The cable requires power to work. You must plug your charger into a passthrough port on the cable. The cable appears to have some active circuitry to get HDMI from the 4 pins of USB.

Any advice of where tu buy in UK?
Proper seller from ebay or amazon or any internet shop (bad experience with MHL cable from china, it's working somehow but discharging phone and sometimes no voice).
I've seen some Samsung cables for 99 pounds which is mad, I would like to spend about 10 or so...
Thanks

the discharging is normal. apparently, it is very intensive for the phone, so much that it discharges while charging. as for the sound, dunno, may be a defective unit.
anyway, MHL 1.0 is crap. it's like the beta version of the thing. mhl 2.0 and slimport should work as intented, but right now only S4 and nexus 4 have them

Funny, I actually have. I work in a computer repair/data recovery shop and we have a phone in with a broken screen/lcd. Long story short is that the device did not work with the phone we got it for, nor my phone (Galaxy S5), and I know my MHL works on my phone but we needed KB/Mouse support as well.
It may have been a bunk device and we haven't requested a replacement yet, so If you try it out let me know if yours works, and when we get our replacement i'll let you know.
actually the seller replied to me and says that this cannot do hdmi and otg at the same time but apparently this dock does : http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=ite...obalID=EBAY-US&ssPageName=ADME:X:ACME:US:1123
but this dock is not compatible with galaxy s5 ... i wonder why

Unfortunately I don't think so, I used this:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Lindy-73391-...6?pt=DE_Computer_Sonstige&hash=item462bc81bb0
with a s4, and it worked prperly, but when connected to s5 it doesn't even turns on. I think it is because s5 doesn't have a docking mode, in fact if you go in Settings-->accessories, there is only an option for sound on hdmi, while in s4 there were more (and one was for the docking mode)
I couldn't find anything that worked reliably and consistently. So I use the MHL for HDMI output and use a Bluetooth Keyboard and mouse...

This is a good solution, but I'm wondering why, since 11 pin connectors usually can handle hdmi and usb otg on the same time, why old dock stations for 11 pin device don't work?
using micro 3.0 for MHL and OTG
i have a SM-G900P and if i make a OTG and MLH cable through usb 3.0 do you think i could charge and use HDMI and 2 usb for keyboard and mouse. My goal is to make my phone like a mini computer on the go for my roms and movies
Possibly use the USB 3.0 Micro-b connection?
All my googling on this matter with the S5 seems to lead to one inevitable conclusion, the S5 won't allow for simultaneous MHL and OTG use, because the S5 uses the 5pin connector and not the 11pin connector (as the S4 seemed to). What I don't understand is, isn't the S5 using USB 3.0 instead of the USB 2.0 as on the S4? How could the S5 allow for faster data transfer rates and yet not be able to transfer more types of data at once?
Isn't there a way to utilize the entire USB 3.0 micro-b format (which apparently has 10 pins, 5 for backwards compatibility with USB 2.0 (except 5pin, and not 11pin), and 5 extra for USB 3.0 speeds) to use MHL and OTG and charging simultaneously?

I'm having an issue with MHL adapter on my S5, When I connect my MHL adapter to my S5, the audio on my TV seems delayed, but when I tried it on my S3, the audio is perfectly fine. Is this something to do with S5 having 5 pin only wherein S3 having 11pin?
I saw a 5 pin to 11 pin converter on Amazon, will this solve this issue? And possibly the issue of not being able to use MHL/HDMI and USB at the same time?
buy chrome cast you can screen mirror or use almost any app directly to the tv when it comes to videos and such theres a little allshare
button at the top of like the video player, you tube etc.
also a smart tv does the same thing only better (all the above scenarios will only work with a connected network)
what is wrong with the image quality?
Chromecast works for me at home or anywhere it has standard wifi, but is too painful in most hotels that use a web user login. Without net access it was almost useless last time I tried. I could pair with it, but it wouldn't stream local files from my device. Most places I've stayed in the last few years have an active HDMI port on their tv, so the MHL HDMI and OTG with USB wireless mouse on an S3 worked for me, even though I couldn't charge at the same time. Haven't been able to make that work so far with anything I've tried on the S5.
Still no luck with S5 docking (MHL+OTG)
Hello!
I've been using this adapter for a while with a Samsung Galaxy S4:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/MHL-...or-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-S4-Note/32461052976.html
Charging, HDMI connection and USB keyboard + mouse works very nice.
Unfortunately no luck with S5. Not even charging works. I read S5 doesn't use 11-pin USB (because of the USB 3.0 plug, etc...). If that's true, then not even installing a custom ROM would make the docking work.
According to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57336973&postcount=4, "the G800F is capable of USB OTG. It simply is not enabled in the stock firmware." I know this is about a S5 Mini, but wouldn't it be the same for the S5?
My dad just got a samsung a32 5g. He is trying to get mhl to hdmi to work so he doesn't have to use his data to watch netflix/hulu. I've tried 2 different usb-c to hdmi cables and neither worked. While a quick Google search says the phone is mhl compatible, I'm starting to think it isn't. Does anyone here know if it is? And if so what might need to be done to get it to work? Thanks.
I'll give it a try once I get home.

{Mod edit: Quoted post has been deleted}
Only certain phones have this feature. Unfortunately a32 5g doesn't seem to be one of them.
Same with A21. Samsung enable video output via USB-C on their more expensive phones.
You can explore WiFi direct or Quick Connect to see if you can display the video on another monitor. The use of ABD to disable apps could cause problem, and you may need to reset the phone to factory configuration to check for proper video support.
you need this cable for your Galaxy A32 5g to work with tv without using your hotspot data or anything other than just a cable and a app the app is EZCast for androids and the cable is cheapest at ebay thats where i got mine and it works perfect (( Renkchip 2-in-1 USB C/Micro USB to HDMI Cable ))

+1. There are two self contained MHL cables available. Work great. Make sure you use 60hz and if you want the tv to be fullscreen, change your phone resolution to a 16x9 one.

This phone does not have hardware inside for MHL, so you must get a self-contained MHL cable.
