Does anyone still use a custom launcher with ICS? if so why? what does it bring to the table that ics does not? i mean we have a full dock now in the stock launcher...and we have scrollabe widgets.
and the real reason im posting is, do you think CM9 will have ADW baked in like it always has? i dont see much point now. My fav launcher out there is by far the stock ICS launcher...
No..ithink ics launcher is great.. and i love stock

I haven't used ICS yet (still waiting on the Galaxy Nexus to be released in the U.S.).
Does the stock ICS launcher allow custom icons?
How about a scrollable dock (like in Launcher Pro) that gives you three panels to scroll through, with 5 customizable slots on each?
What about swipe gestures? For example, in LP you can set it so that if you swipe upwards from your browser shortcut it will pop up with a list of your bookmarks.
Those would be the only features I would miss coming from LP.
If the stock ICS launcher has those features, I don't see the need to even think about switching to anything else. Even if it doesn't, I will probably stick with stock just to stick with the overall ICS look and feel, although I would hope Google would add those features in a future update (I mean if some guy can program that kind of thing in his spare time, I'm sure Google's programmers would have no problem with it)

It'd be incredibly easy for Google to add those features, the reason why they don't is because they're not intuitive features and Android caters to a very wide audience. In the past I installed LP+ on all my relatives phones, many got confused or lost.
I agree that they are more for advanced users, but one of the biggest advantages of Android is that it caters to those types of users - those who want to have the option of trading a little simplicity for more functionality. I'm not suggesting that these features be enabled by default, but perhaps there could be a toggle to enable "advanced dock settings," or something of that nature.
Just seems to me like it would be in the best interest of Google to make these kinds of features available without third party apps, especially given the amount of people that turn to alternate launchers because most OEM skins (sense, blur, touchwiz, etc) are unattractive, intrusive, and/or lacking in functionality.
As I said in my previous post, I personally probably wont switch to a third party launcher with ICS just because I want to retain the cohesive look and feel that ICS offers, but I will definitely miss the functionality of something like Launcher Pro which is why I wish that Google would offer at least the option to enable some of those additional features with ICS.
I keep going back and forth between Go Launcher EX and stock... Will do so until I configured the stock the way I like my screen.
The features from GL-EX that I'm holding out for arwe the swipe up option and the option of running 5x4 screen >>

i see where you're coming from but you have to see it from google's side. the more options they offer with their base product, the more bewildering and off-putting it may seem to your typical end user.
but then, third party apps come in and fill the void. android itself doesn't (and shouldn't) cater to any kind of user specifically, but it allows developers to cater to them. and that's what's so great about it.
Are the TouchWiz features added into custom roms like CM or slim bean? I don't see anything about the motion features that come with stock touchwiz on the SIII. Are they apps I can flash after installing a custom rom? Would love to use the 4.1.2 slim bean, but not if I have to lose some of the cool motion features (like dialing the contact on the screen by moving the phone to your head).

Touchwiz features do not work without Touchwiz. They are tied into the TW framework. Same as Sense features don't work if you strip out Sense on HTC. Those on AOPK/AOSP/CM are only looking for the speed of the hardware and basic stock Android OS and not the features. There are some 3rd party apps such as camera and wave apps that mimic some of the features you lose depending on if they are compatible with the sensor code.
athe smart alert motion control is the only thing I miss going from TW to AOSP roms.
I almost went back to TW, but I learned to live without them. (it wasnt hard)
Make a nandroid and try slimbean. If you dont like it you can always revert back quickly.

I might do this. There are enough negatives in TW that ditching it for stock will outweigh the positives of TW I think. :fingers-crossed:
Thanks for the answers.
I would really love to find someway to port some of the TW apks to an AOSP rom. The one thing I can't stand is the AOSP contacts. I actually like some of the TW apps such as the messenger, calculator, calendar, and the camera, but I would sacrifice them to run an AOSP rom.
It seems like it should be fairly simple, albeit slightly out of my field of knowledge (although I'll still give it a shot over the weekend) but shouldn't it be as simply as pulling the necessary resources from the TW Framework and baking them into the apks themselves? or is there deeper coding that would need to be changed in order for this to work?
Smart stay and smart alerts I'd like to see portable, if anyone felt so inclined.

that and the camera app for me!
Hi,
I have a galaxy S4 and obviously has features like air view and air gesture etc. Sadly though Samsung seem to be the apple kind of people in the android world limiting the features etc. These features only work with default Samsung apps so using air gestures in a 3rd party SMS app isn't possible.
I'm just wondering if it is possible to use these features else where like maybe through some sort of rooted app? I also think it would be good to be able to integrate air view etc with tasker or like when your screen is off you can hover your finger over the screen to turn it on to view notifications as I use an app to show notifications on the lock screen. Is it possible to do such thing or haven't Samsung released the SDK for it?
Hello guys, I would like to know if there is any mod or rom or something that do the "Beauty face" like Samsung devices, LG...
Is an option that I miss on my Nexus.
Thanks
Have you tried an alternative camera app, like aillis or B612? B612 is, for the most part, point and shoot. aillis includes a lot more options, which might be more what you're looking for. But I don't think there are AOSP camera forks with the kind of feature you're asking for, and Google Camera definitely doesn't have them.
Try htc camera app its too good
Was there anyone able to change Samsung Daily newsfeed (when you swipe right on main screen) to google now with cards? I heard third party launchers enables that, but I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle with them, are they any good on foldables? If so, which could you recommend?
