Help! Installing Samsung Pay on S2 - Samsung Gear S2

Longtime lurker, just finally registered (normally I get my answers without the need to regester.
Just picked up a Gear S2 (SM-R720) and looking to change my CSC from Canada to XAR so I can use SPay.
Ive literally spent 3 days reading and clicking and reading and clicking again and cant seem to get the answer.
Im great at following instructions and have been reading a lot of threads originally by @adfree but to no avail.
Like this one:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76553079&postcount=98
^^In this method, at #6, I cant seem to get it working directly from CMD command so I go to CMD through the SDB Starter kit (/data/tools).
When I input my command line for the ip, I keep getting:
"failed to connect to remote target".
One time, I did get the 'RSA Key fingerprint' request but when I accepted and then tried to type 'sdb shell' I got:
"more than one target found. Specify the target with -s option."
Only the one time did I get the RSA prompt.
I have also tried with ODIN, but, my problem is my only access to a PC is a desktop without WIFI so im not quite sure how to connect my gear to my PC this way.
Please help! I love theis watch but the main reason I got it was to be able to use SPay!
Again, I am in Canada wear SPay is not out for Gear S2 so I need to change the csc code!

Some other threads ive been reading:

r720xxu2eqh1 is the stock file ive downloaded. Where does this go in ODIN?
r720xxu2aOj2 is the combo file i downloaded. Where does THIS go in ODIN?
Thoses are both saved as .zip files.
I need a file for CSC, BL, and AP for ODIN correct?

Extract it. Place the CSC_xxx file into CSC box of ODIN, correct? After I flash combo?

Before I do stock flash. In AP section. However, when I unzip the .zip and open the file, there is only another 0J2 .zip file within...just leave it?
Those are both saved as .zip files.

Need Help using ODIN & Tar file

Need help. I am trying to restore my Skyrocket to factory. I down loaded the necessary files
-ODIN
-SGH-I727-UCKJ2-k0nane
The thing is that when I open Odin, click PDA and browse, I don't see the tar file(SGH-I727-UCKJ2-k0nane)? Do I have to convert the file to tar?
The SGH-I727-UCKJ2-k0nane is in the download file and I see it but when I use Odin to browse, I don't see the file?
Am I doing something wrong or am I missing a step?
I am using Window's Vista. Does it make any difference?
I have read instructions many many times and I can't figure it out.
anyone out there?
Sorry bro. I would help you but seeing as I have yet to have my SkyRocket in Hand and have not gone through the rooting and ROM process on THIS device. I am not comfortable giving advice. Best to wait for someone who has more experience with the SkyRocket than I.

the .tar file is INSIDE the file you downloaded. the file you downloaded is a .7z or 7zip file. 7zip is a free archive/extractor. unzip it with 7zip and you will find your tar file.
i find it always helps to have your WINDOWS configured to show file extensions to keep confusion like this to a minimum, since you would have actually seen the file extension type.
careful! this method trips the ROM counter. why are you returning to stock?
I figuered it out. I bricked my phone trying to update to 2.36.

You know there is a cwm flashable rooted zip for 2.3.6 right? Its here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1361144

What are the different ODIN files in package?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus Wi-Fi only GT-P6210 that I want to flash back to stock ROM using ODIN. I have found two packages at this thread. (I can't post to the following thread because I'm a noob)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1367478
One package has only one file that I know is the PDA file. The other package has 3 files:
GT-P6210-MULTI-CSC-OXEKK1_RST.tar.md5
P6210_APBOOT_P6210XXKL2_CL583761_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
P6210_CODE_P6210XXKL2_CL583761_REV02_user_low_ship_16G.tar.md5
The CODE file is the PDA file, correct?
The CSC file is the CSC file, duh.
What is the APBOOT file?
Can you also explain what the different files are? What is a CSC file? What is a PIT file? Why does the other package only contain the PDA file?
I've never ODIN'd before so I want to make sure I know what I'm doing and flash the correct package.

I have the same question my self but didnt know where to look... Hopefully you get an answer soon cause id like to know to, my tab got screwed up and i dont know how to get the original firmware back and no clue how to properly flash the odin with out screwing it up more, so hopefully this works

First ever attempt to upgrade my tab and failed! Need some direction

With much embarrassment I have to admit I really thought I was smarter than a tablet and a few simple clicks. Apparently not. So now I am here with issues that I am sure someone can answer because your more advanced than a few clicks and a tablet.
I have briefly looked for a resolve to my issue but it is very overwhelming. So if you can just point me in the right direction and hold my hand at the same time I would be very appreciative :good:
Issues:
I originally downloaded Odin, GT-P5113 4.0.4, CM 12.1, CW Unofficial Touch 6.0.3.3 p5100 zip. I launced Odin and followed the steps from a you-tube video. Well upon my surprise CW was not on the tablet so I was at the Tabs generic recovery screen. I choose the option to delete all user data ( lots of no's to select from and one Yes). Well continuing to be a fool I completed this process. When the tablet rebooted I was stuck at the Samsung logo screen. I decided to get to the download screen and install smt810_cf_autoroot.tar. After loading this tar via Odin I became stuck on the Android man downloading screen. Waited a bit and nothing. Then my tablet shut down and came up with "Firmware upgrade encountered and issue" with the tablet-yellow ! icon and pc icon.
Another issue is when i download these files Odin will not find them in my file. Why? I usually keep them unzipped as a .rar in order for odin to show them so I can select PDA and attempt to install them.
Is there a way to still upgrade the Android system and fix this Firmware error at the same time?
Basically I am so new to this I need specific directions on resolving my issue. So if anyone has a moment please help me out here. I appreciate your time and knowledge
And I can use Odin to install to the tablet. If that helps Just not in the download screen on the tablet.

first you should download the stock firmware of your device, if it's p5113 then search and download the same firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203309 check this thread if it's there, if it's not please google it, if already have it, ignore..
Once you have it, you should get the firmware md5 file (by unzipping the rar.) Odin will take tar file or md5 file. put it in Odin AP/PDA check the thread for all the details on how to flash correctly.
you have to get into download mode by pressing the power and volume up/right to do that once the firmware is successfully flashed and your tab starts running again. first get this part done.
Always use files that are meant only for your device. if your tab say p5113. then make sure the file you are flashing states it is meant for p5113 and not p5100. (maybe not in the rooting case cause it's same
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203309 here for all)
At some places you will find files marked as p51xx. those files are generally safe too and are meant for the p51xx tab series but that is later stage.
I appreciate the feedback and have found I had tried to flash my tablet with GT-P5110 software when i actually have a GT-P5113TS. I have found the firmware but my issue is when I download anything and extract it with using rar. I never get a .tar file or anything Odin can not recognize to select PDA and use.. What would cause that? How do I fix this?
Thank You

Try winrar or 7zip, it should extract, you need md5 or tar format in pda section. If not what error are you getting? There must be some file when you open the archive?
Basically when I download the zip file I want and then extract it to a specific folder. All I after unzipping is File folders with other file folders inside,Img, File, PROP, and SH. I never extract anything that is a Tar file or anything Odin can recognize when on PDA within Odin. Plus a lot of times I click on a link for a download off this site and it sends me to some watch-movies website. Not a actual download. Or I am just missing it.

Maybe it's a bad link to your stock file then. Perhaps someone can give proper file link to the stock firmware. Inside the zip it's basically a md5 file for firmware to flash. Sadly I don't have a proper yoi will have to find of the net.

Odin Error (Can't open the specified file) line 1892 - FIXED (for me)

Hope this might help someone here.
I rooted my s8+ and basically got stuck with a soft-bricked phone, telling me I could only use official firmware etc etc. I was able to get the phone into download mode (eventually) but I wasn't able to flash anything including the stock Pie rom. I spent all night trying to find a solution to no avail and then found this, which I've edited a bit. And it worked. I've now got my s8+ back with Android 9 on it without any bloatware and it's actually better than ever. Thanks to Krolik301 for your help. I'm just hoping this may help someone.
1. Download the stock ROM and extract it.
2. Make a copy of the CSC file and rename one from the file type .md5 to .rar
3. Extract the PIT file from the CSC .rar file.
4. In Odin v3.13, make sure you add all four files from the extracted ROM (BL, AP, CP and CSC).
5. Click the PIT tab and add the PIT file that you just extracted from the CSC.rar file.
6. I the Options tab of Odin, make sure that Re-Partition, Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time are all ticked.
7. Click Start and hopefully you'll be back to your stock ROM
And please don't hold me responsible for any loss of data or a phone that still won't boot.
Hope this helps someone. Happy Easter

Hello. I'm helping someone on discord with this exact issue (the error code is "can't open the specified file (line 665)". I extracted the PIT file from CSC and placed it into the PIT file. I also put all of the firmware files in their proper place (except for HOME_CSC, as he wants to keep his files). Do I absolutely have to put the CSC file in place of the HOME_CSC file?

Could someone help me root Gear S3 Frontier SM R760 R5AKB0F0JRK

Hello guys, I have previous experience with rooting and Odin but I would not want to risk it with the watch.
l do not know whether the procedure is the same.
l am asking to see whether someone managed to root it or even flash some custom ROM if possible.
Thank you in advance!

RAMDISK from Combination Firmware CRB1
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=81794475&postcount=841
Rooted rootfs.img for SM-R760 ESF2
https://www.file-upload.net/download-13897188/2020_ROOT_smR760_ESF2_and_CSC_v3.7z.html
-------------------------------------------------
You need netOdin.
A
MANDATORY flash FIRST RAMDISK to allow modified rootfs.img
B
Round 2 with netOdin. My modified TAR with rootfs.img + csc.img inside.
C
Then you can use it with Tool SDB...
OWN RISK!
If you have questions ask FIRST, before you try something.
Best Regards
Sorry for disrupting this post, but I also want to root my r760n. I am currently on 4.0.0.4 R760XXU2ESG1. If I understand correctly I need to get a rooted rootfs.img which I need to flash after your ramdisk. Where can I get the rootfs? BTW your rootfs.img link for ESF2 is broken. And what about flashing the scs.img? Will I still be able to change my CSC by launching that switcher app via sdb? What steps should I take to get my gear S3 rooted? And will SPay still work after rooting the watch?
@mikamika135790
Downloaded from Link and for me work
Code:
2020_ROOT_smR760_ESF2_and_CSC_v3.7z
Can you please give details what exactly is broken?
You can not download or downloaded file is corrupted or?
Code:
And will SPay still work after rooting the watch?
At the moment not both things at same time possible...
Reason(s)
A
I am from Germany... No Samsung Pay
No problem for me to use Root.
B
Maybe someone else can find solution to hide Root...
Best Regards
Okay I found out that NextDNS is blocking the site. Is that file still compatible with my model?
I am located in Luxembourg and we also don't have real SPay capabilities but I was hoping that the PayPal method has been made available by now.
@mikamika135790
Seems we have both SM-R760 Gear S3 Frontier...
Only tiny difference... you have now:
Code:
R760XXU2ESG1
And I have only uploaded ESF2..
Ehm in theory this is possible to mix... better and safer to match Firmware Version on device and modded files...
Maybe before we proceed...
A
You are able to work with SDB Tool?
Minimum skills is to Copy and Paste:
Code:
sdb root on
B
You can handle netOdin? To flash correct files...
C
Root only work in combination with PC Tool SDB...
So I hope you have good reason... to take the risks...
Best Regards
sdb seems to be like adb but Samsung specific, so I think I am able to work with it. I think I am also able to work with netOdin, provided I get proper directions for the files provided. And I also have a second Gear S3 frontier if something goes terribly wrong. Is there a modified ramdisk for my firmware or is there a way/guide to modify it myself if the file doe not exist yet? Thanks
Mandatory step is to flash RAMDISK first:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=81794475&postcount=841
It is taken from Combination Firmware CRB1...
It is unmodified...
Only unpacked and repacked as 1 file into 1 TAR...
IMHO this would be your first step.
Yes, IMHO I have several times posted how to make own ROOT... all inside linked Thread...
I am too lazy to search now...
Maybe good idea, to prevent later mistakes...
Make first Photo from your Odin Mode aka Download... Example:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73607036&postcount=1
No need to post here... only as Backup for you.
IMHO my Root method NOT kill Knox...
But no idea if you do own experiments...
OWN RISK!
Best Regards
Okay, thank you. I found your 2020_summary_Rooting_v1.zip file which I suppose is the most up to date one. It seems as if you only have to copy some files into the rootfs.img and destroy a string for the dm-verity. I could simply mount the rootfs under my linux machine and manualy copy the files and edit that string and it would stilll work? Thanks
In theory yes.
For study you can use the unmodified ESF2 Firmware files...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=82568511&postcount=882
For new Tizen 4.0.0.7 FTD4 Firmware my method work too.. for me.
Changes...
I have flashed RAMDISK of SM-R500 Combination Firmware and also take files... from Batch...
So IMHO it would be possible to root Tizen 4.0.0.x with same files for:
Code:
Gear S3 like SM-R760
GW like SM-R800
GWA1 like SM-R500
in theory also GWA2 like SM-R820... not tested yet...
Best Regards
Okay, thank you very much. As you are from Germany, I suppose that your CSC is set to Germany. Is the setting of the CSC related to the final 4 characters of the firmware (like ESF2 and ESG1)? And where does one get the rootfs for the firmwares? Are they in an update package which can be found on a samsung repository or can you only get them by chance from a combination file? Thanks
Not exact sure what you need...
A
BT only Watches have 1 package for ALL CSC aka Sales Code...
SM-R760 is BT only Watch... here only OXA Region with all 70 + CSC...
Code:
XAR
DBT
.
.
KOO
You can find them inside csc.img...
B
To find Firmware Files...
You can click here around in few Threads... or search by Google for free avalaible files...
Looks like this:
Code:
BL_R760XXU2ESG1_usr.tar.md5
AP_R760XXU2ESG1_usr.tar.md5
CSC_OXA_R760OXA2ESG1_usr.tar.md5
Brazil CSC ZTO for instance was the only with
Code:
AP_R760XXU2[B]ESI1[/B]_usr.tar.md5
New Firmware FTD4 for ALL CSC "avaliable"...
Also as leaked...
But I have NO Original FTD4 files... only dumped from SM-R760 with RDX Tool and USB cable...
Maybe somebody can share the Original Files of FTD4...
Best Regards
OKay, I found the ESG1 firmware on some firmware site with arab font and I presumably would have to purchase it. But downgrading to maybe ESF2 would be possible if I understand correctly? And is your FTD4 dump available as an archive file like BL_ etc or do I need the original one? Sorry for bothering you with my many questions, I am new to the Gear S3 scene And where do I put what into netOdin? I repacked csc.img into a tar file which will be put under csc. Does the ramdisk go in the first run under bl or is that for an sboot file? And the rootfs.img as a tar will go under AP?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=82763599&postcount=206
FTD4 ""official"" Firmware Files...
Thanx to Uploader. :good:
So I can next days upload rooted FTD4...

Just tried rooting my second watch which is now stuck on the frontier bootlogo. I am very certain that I effed up somewhere so here are my steps.
The watch was on an ESE firmware and I downloaded your ESF2 rooted files from the main root post. I also downloaded the combination files. I extracted the combination firmware and put the files from inside there into folders called csc, bl and ap. I then put the csc.img from your 2020 zip from the post and replaced the csc.img file I got from the combination zip and placed into the csc folder. I placed the rootfs.img I got from your 2020 zip into the ap folder, replacing the one that came with the combination file. Finally I downloaded the dzimage from the post and put it into the bl folder, replacing the original one. Then I tared them all into seperate tar archives, loaded them into netodin and flashed them in AP mode. After flashing was done, my watch is now stuck at the frontier bootimage. What did I miss?

Okay I got way confused at the multiple instructions. Sorry. I try to follow now.
Wireless still works. Ap mode too.
According to your Photo.
Knox is now 1...
Bye bye Samsung Pay for now.
My suggestion...
Flash normal Stock Firmware of your choice....
FTD4 for instance...
I hope you are able now to follow posts and links and you can successfully download FTD4 Firmware...
For netOdin maybe you can use this Link as help:

If I have time I will root FTD4 and upload...
Maybe we try then again...
