Hello,
I'm not very keen on starting this kind of thread, but comparative information is pretty scarce on the internet.
I'm planning on getting my girlfriend an Android phone soon and I'm stuck between these 3 models due to my budget:
1. Sony-Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini
2. Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570
3. Motorola BackFlip
The Xperia was what she originally saw and liked, but in my opinion its not very good. The Samsung appears to be the safest bet, and the Motorola is something i've just seen 10 minutes ago and seems very good on paper (hardware-wise) but that screen seems too small and the keypad is not something she (or i) would like very much. Plus that flip mechanism i'm sure will not last very long.
Now i turn to you, the community, for opinions. I'm a bit stuck between these. Any input would be great!
Thanks!

The best for me is x10 mini...
1. X10 mini has many stuff u cn do n u cn root it n update to 2.3 cyanogen... Cons: lag of multitouch n qvga
2. Galaxy mini has ginger update too, but i dunt understand too much abt rooting it... Cons: qvga
Best : Able to overclocked to 800mhz
3. Backflip... I tink is lame...
But for a budget hvga fone, i recommended optimus one or x8...

Thank you for your reply. I know about Optimus One and it is superior to those 3 that i've mentioned. Unfortunately it's $35 US more expensive than my budget (my budget being what those 3 cost). This is a spontaneous decision and there is not a lot of money to be spent. She doesnt care that much about the technical side but she would enjoy the apps and everything and i could certainly help her discover more about Android. She prefers the smaller devices as well. So no optimus one.
I might just end up with the samsung. Im still not sure.

My wife has a backflip, I got it for her in July and its been durable but broken a few otterbox cases (just the front piece). The best rom has been cyanogen mod 7.1 even tho it frequently freezes it has performed way better than the stock 1.5 & 2.1 that Motorola provides. If a good phone is above your budget, just spend the extra lil bit. It'll be worth it in the end.

Also called Samsung Galaxy Z/R,its the "little brother" of Samsung Galaxy S2,whit a 4,2" Super Clean LCD screen,Nvidia Tegra 2 at 1 Ghz,1GB of RAM,8GB of internal memory and 5mpx of camera whit recording at 720 px.
The quadrant results are about 3000,but what i want to mean whit this? I request the opening of a category exclusive por this phone,is not the best but its a powerful device.
i agree, i want a category for this beautiful phone too
+1. I agree
+1 :d:d:d
i think Galaxy R has better hardware than S2,plus there is no difference on performance, the screen has natural color good for the eye..thickness is ideal for the size, i had s2 but it seems it does not feel good in hand very lightweigth. price is good, even with 5mp camera, what count is the performance is same dual core and better looks.
+1 . A category for this model
+1
we all need category for this model =)

I like this phone too, but when will we see root for it?
Why is this model still a mystery? It practically doesn't even exist on samsung's official website. I understand that there's no root tutorial or custom roms for it. No problem with that (so far though )but come on. It's really hard to believe that such great phone is so unpopular all over the world. I bought it 7 days ago, and I cannot even read what kind of issues I should expect with it. As for now I'm really satisfied, the only thing I noticed was dropped calls once or twice, but the person I was speaking to was clearly out of range (subway )
To sum up, own category is strongly needed!
+1 nice phone
Put in enough requests here and your wish might come true.

thx! I haven't known it worked that way! I've just put my comment in favor for our device. I recommend other guys to do the same!
No votes = no own category
Guys what's wrong with you? Don't you want to have own category for our device?
Is it really so hard to leave a comment?
+1
I think it's a power machine, and should be his software very similar to galaxy2
I think would be early because samsung start sells in september.
I hope so
just have voted for our i9103 GALAXY R.
well done !
My vote for this !
just voted!
Does anyone know why the i9103 aren't on samsungs website? Think that's weird ....

hi guys n girls
looking at getting a new phone tomorrow and just wondering what u guys would recomend
ive been looking at the htc evo 3d
the galaxy s 2
and the galaxy note
really not interested in an iphone though as i hate apple
any advice would be greatly recieved,
many thanks
steve
ps current phone is the galaxy s 1
I have an Evo 3D and enjoy it, the Galaxy 2 is excellent as well. The Note is not in the US yet, but I plan on getting one soon. AT&T looks like they will have it first, though I somewhat prefer Verizon.
At the end of the day there are a lot of good phones, it depends on what the carrier has. I could go either way on AT&T and Verizon, so I'll probably go with whoever get's the Note/Journal first.
galaxy s2 if u want good performance and nice phone
Hi Steve,
Well you said it all by saying the names of the candidates. I wouldn't get the HTC because either SGS2 and Note have a really good performance (better than HTC Evo 3D i'd say), also i've known HTCs for having bad camera performances..
I have the SGS2 and it's just amazing, i love how smooth and fast it is.
If you want a bigger screen then you know the Note is for you, you can also use it to make drawings and stuff like that if you're creative or in the other way around, if you want 3D, the HTC is your phone.
In my opinion i'd get the SGS2, i don't really like HTC phones because of their UI and not really good performances overall.
EDIT: also, the SGS2's camera is really good imo, i love its quality and the videos are stunning as well. Don't forget how thin and light it is!
Good luck on your decission
Galaxy note is better if you like a big screen
thanks for the replies,
just thought are there any other phones (uk market) that anyone would recomend over these
i do like the idea of a large screen and also like the idea of 3d photos
y do they make it so hard to choose now lol
cheers
steve
Lol yeah, you could check LG phones or Sony Ericsson Experia (or future Sony only Experia), but i don't recommend LG because of their bad SO update reputation
There's a lot to choose, but my suggestion is the SGS2 or Note.
Depends on your price. I had a galaxy s 2. But the forums were full of idiots and noob questions. Plus being honest what the hell is the point in all that power when battery isn't the best.
Anyhow Bought a nexus s unlocked from cpw for 199 and put the extra 150 towards a holiday. And now I have a gorgeous looking phone with a great community behind it. And great support from Google. No UI over the the phone. So despite not being dual core. Its fast.
And don't even start about quadrant!!!!!! Lol

Wait for those A15 cores!
I love HTC products, but of that list the G SII is the best choice... in my opinion.

hi, first of all im new to this forum.
I sorry if i posted a thread in the wrong section.
I am planning to buy a new android phone (my first ) soon, in the next few weeks.
I were wandering which phone better?
Galaxy nexus, Sony Xperia S, Motorola Razr, Samsung galaxy s2.
i prefer the nexus or the xperia s because of the high resolution screen, but maybe u can convince me otherwise.
thank you all for your help
PS: and please do not rely just on the proccessor and the camera.
Yah. Nexus has the highest resolution of em all. It's great. But if you are restricted to those phones only I would suggest you get the Nexus itself. (but i have heard a lot from people that it has too many issues.)
The one with least issues seems s2 to me.
Razr has the best build quality.
Not much I know about xperia Cuz I ain't a Sony fanboy
And BTW it should be in Q&A.
And there is also a device suggestion thread which you should be asking these questions in!

thank you for your answer.
first, the xperia also have a high res screen (720p).
my main question is the xperia or the nexus?
what issues have you heard of in the nexus?
my friend has a nexus and i really like it, exept for the camera. (which isnt that important to me, its ok).
also, he didnt complain about any issues.
i dont have experience with the xperia s, but many suggesting it.

Mainly it was the battery issue with nexus. (not all phones, but some ).
Everything else is great with nexus. Especially the dev support!
They are gonna get Ubuntu soon.

Those are all really good phones. I think Sony have a good reputation for quality and stylish products personally. But then again the Galaxy Nexus is really good too, mainly because of its great relation with Google. Just depends what you want it for
Hope this helped

IMHO the SII now is the best choice: quality/price
Gs3 is close comparison with the nexus series. I've heard a lot of problems with the razr.

Hi. I need help on choosing which is the better device, the HTC One S or the Sony Xperia S. I know these devices was released a year ago but I want to know if it can still compete on today's smartphones esp. flagship phones.
Please rate/answer. Thanks
-UI
-Performance
-Can it still compete on today's smartphones?
-Will it support the latest Android version?
and
-PROS AND CONS of HTC One S (in your opinion)
I did search and read reviews, but the reviews was posted a year ago. lol
Some forums said it will have Sense 5 and 4.2 while some don't. *confused*
Well, regarding UI and performance I can say the one s is good and sufficient.
As for the upgrades... No-one knows of this phone will ever get past 4.1.2 officially.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
The One S was a top quality phone (when I had it). It feels quicker in some places than my Galaxy S4. Its just HTC's laziness with software updates that are the only massive deal-breaker with the phone. Well, that and the lack of removable storage/battery. Far better than the Xperia S in my opinion though, and the Xperia S also has abysmal battery life.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda premium
I'm fine with non-removable battery/non-expandable storage. Can Adreno 225 play 3d games smoothly (no lags)?
And regarding with the screen display/quality, is it ok? I'm kinda bothered by the reviews of a pentile matrix screen.
Well... The PenTile display is noticeable. You can see blue or red pixels on the edges of icons. And the GPU is good, I reckon it achieved around 20fps on Temple Run 2.
