Hi,
I want to speed up my wifes U11 life as it slows down after one year. So I wanted to try wioe the cape partition, but if I follow the instructions to get into recovery boot screen in menue "Wipe data/factory reset" there is no point "wipe cache partition", just "wipe all user data" to reset it to factory defaults. ^^
How can reach the option to wipe the cache partition? System is with newest updates, 8.1 Build 2.12.401.17 Security Level 08/2018

There is no such option in the stock recovery or system. The only thing you could try is erasing the cache using fastboot

I did not find similar threads on this so im going to say it for the final time....
Wiping by factory reset, wipe cache,dalvik cache and wiping battery stats is not wiping properly!!!
To install a rom freshly you wipe with the following correct procedures:
1.format system
2.format data
3.format cache
no need to wipe anything else. This is how u wipe properly before installling a rom. not by factory resetting by THIS.

every time when i flash new rom i do this :
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache
I do all of it. Wipe data/cache/dalvik/battery then i format system/data/cache/boot

It would be good to note that the factory reset option in CWM does this. The one in the actual ROM I'm not sure of, but it probably doesn't.

the reset settings from custom rom settings didnt work ,
With toilet paper, back to front.

full wipe / changing roms:
1. wipe data/factory reset (this formats /data, /cache and .android_secure on sd)
2. format /system, /boot
this leaves you with a "virgin" phone, only bootloader, recovery and radio are left. dalvik-cache resides on /data, so it's gone already.
3. flash rom
4. optional: gapps & custom-kernel. no need to let the phone boot & settle before flashing them.
5. reboot
just updating rom:
1. flash rom-zip
2. wipe /cache and dalvik-cache
3. reboot
optional: if using a custom-kernel, flash it again after rom-zip. most custom-kernels have a script that automatically wipes /cache & dalvik during kernel-install.

Hey guys, this might be a really noob question. I looked it up on google, but still wanted to make sure because of the verizon locked bootloader etc( i know we can unlock it now). How do i do a full wipe on my device? I am asking because there are a few more options in the wipe settings of the custom recovery i have.
This are the steps i always do before flashing a rom. Are they the correct steps or do i need to do something else?
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Wipe Data/factory reset

Wipe Cache and wipe dalvik cache should both be done when flashing modifications or tweaks as they reduce the chance of encountering data issues/glitches and neither of them wipe your data as they are merely caches. Wipe data/factory reset should be done before flashing a rom. Wipe data/factory reset automatically wipes the cache and as the name implies will wipe any data you have on the phone, though any files you have saved to your internal "sd card" will be left intact. Before flashing a rom I always do a factory reset, and a dalvik cache wipe. Additionally I have found it helpful to also go into mounts and format system. There have been times for me that switching between two different roms has led to choppy performance, and this step seems to fix that as it thoroughly removes any traces of the previous rom.

I am a proud owner of Nexus 5 and after playing with and installing many useless apps I decided to factory reset it.
So I did some googling and learned, that some people do "Wipe Cache Partition" right after "Factory Reset". So my question is - is it necessary to do so?
I came to a conclusion, that, to fully wipe everything from my phone including apps' left-overs, I could just do the following:
Boot into recovery mode, perform "Wipe Cache Partition" and then "Factory Reset" (immediately without booting up the phone). Is it necessary to do "Wipe Cache Partition" again after "Factory Reset?
And lastly, is there any difference between "Factory Reseting" and installing "Stock ROM". Will installing Stock ROM leave the phone in a cleaner condition?
More info (just in case): My Device is not Rooted, and I'm using Stock ROM.

Factory reset will wipe cache partition.
Difference on factory reset vs installing stock (factory images) depends on how you install it. If you just flash system and boot, data will be untouched. If you flash data too, it will effectively wipe data.

So it turns out, that just "Factory Reset" is enough, but installing Stock ROM is a better option if the phone is badly messed up.
Hi, everytime I Try to do a Wipe cache or a Wipe data from Cyanogen Recovery it doesn't do a thing.
Log file says: "Wipe complete" but when I reboot the device it change anything.
It seems like a simple restart of the device.
Is there anyone like my situation? Thanks.

I wanted to perform a factory reset without loosing the stock ROM for now.
I don't do this since a long time ago (I did that on M7) I just wanted to ask a confirmation about that on TWRP Recovery.
What I need to do? Is WIPE -> Advanced Wipe and select DATA, Internal Storage, Cache and Dalvik Cache enough?
Basically I can wipe everything except system and boot right?
I've read something about formatting partitions but I'm not sure.
EDIT: I've found this: TWRP --> WIPE --> Swipe to Factory Reset
No more else should be needed.
