Android 9.0 Pie custom ROMs and Honor 8 - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Hello guys,
I tried out different Android Pie ROMs, like Pixel Experience Pie and the Kirin-GSI AOSP Android Pie, but in the first OS, the camera didn't work and in the second ROM, the device overheated like hell and tethering didn't work. So, I'm looking for a stable Pie ROM because this is the whole reason why I unlocked the bootloader in the first place. I'm waiting the recommendations here.

The only that has everything working is the kirin-gsi because of the camera. But the batteru is terrible and is overheating and also i guess the rom is abandoned. The openkirin team is working in android p roms for kirin processors, so just wait.

But I tested all of the OpenKirin ROMs and every single one of them failed to keep the camera's picture quality from EMUI 8. This is the only ROM so far that managed to do this. I heard the overheating issues and battery draining can be solved by a custom kernel. Is there any custom kernels made for Honor 8 that support EMUI 8's partition table?

Android 6 working on the Pixel?

I'm wondering how difficult it would be to run a Marshmallow ROM on the Pixel.
I wanted to run Xposed on the Pixel until Xposed for Android 7 is working.
I'm wondering if just installing an Android 6 ROM and kernel would have any chance in booting.

I think something like this would be pretty difficult. I'm not sure if it's possible but maybe a 6.0 from source if the device tree and what not could be imported from 7.1 to 6.0. I believe if that is done then it's just a matter of compiling a 6.0 build. I've had some success compiling AOSP but it's been a while and I didn't get that deep into it. Maybe someone with some more experience can chime in. Sounds like a fun group project.

Paranoid Android for Umidigi

Hi guys,
Looking at how Umidigi is growing rapidly and with each new phone release, boundaries are bound to be pushed. The slew of smartphones released under Umidigi are all very promising. Therefore, I would like to see more custom ROM being made for it. Personally, I've been considering doing a Paranoid Android port for Umidigi phone. At this stage, it's just an idea because there are several factors that will affect the outcome.
1. If I am to start building custom ROMs for Umidigi phone (which model), obviously I'd have to get one
2. Which custom ROM the community would like to have the most
hello and welcome to this tread, i think z/zpro it's a good idea to port ,only camera lib are differents. i prefer lineageos personally.
Hi, Personally I would prefer AICP if possible.
For me it would be nice RR
AICP
LineageOS
ResurrectionRemix
===
Depending on your taste.
I just want different roms I'm really bored of the standard one, I would love to get LineageOS
Paranoid Android or LineageOs
Hi thanks, I would like AICP.

doesnt matter, everything is better than the stock rom crap.
Hey all, based on the current feedback seems like the favourite bunch includes:-
1. LineageOS
2. AICP
3. RR
4. Paranoid Android
But its still early days. Keep the vote coming! Meanwhile, I'll try to get myself the device so I can work on it.
I have already tried some ROMs with my other devices and LineageOS is for me the best choice.
ResurrectionRemix is the second choice for me.
I'm happy with anything that moves this phone forward ?
Rooted a must option
Thanks for all the feedback and looks like Lineage OS is the hot favourite. Don't just stop here. Keep your opinion coming and don't forget to vote.
P/S: good news coming soon
Any other ROM would be better than official crap. But I've a question: until now there is no other ROM for this device because Mediatek hasn't released source code for X27 so, how are you going to solve this?
Hi guys, I've created the first build of Lineage OS 14.1 for Umidigi Z. It can be found in my other thread @ https://forum.xda-developers.com/umi-z/development/unofficial-lineageos-14-1-umidigi-z-t3639453
Be warned that this build is not tested because I do not have the device and it is created based on the best of my knowledge. I'm well aware that there will be plenty of bugs and issues. Feel free to reply to that thread.
Looks like he had the Z not the Z pro in mind Stock rom is so limited it's untrue

The problem in releasing source code is umi.. Since other brands with same hardware get sources... Like elephone, vernee... Good example is umi super and elephone p9000 use almost same hardware helio p10 mediatek umi no source code but elephone 18 months ago allready?
Resurrection Remix for its possibilities of personalization
Is there anything new?
I have the impression that there is no really working Custom ROM for the Z Pro.

Sorry, there is nothing working at the moment. Also, take note that my effort of porting a custom rom is for UMi Z and not UMi Z Pro at the moment. But I guess the two devices are not too dissimilar though.

Oreo, Treble, AOSP and Lineage thoughts

We know that stock Oreo for Mate 9 has treble enabled.
I have been reading about treble and it seems that it focuses on standardizing vendor/odm partitions. The same vendor partition could be used by different Android flavors, including pure AOSP or Lineage.
Moreover, in treble devices the kernel must implement loadable modules. The same kernel will be shared among devices with the same SoC. Software for particularities like storage devices or camera will be loaded from vendor/odm partitions.
I'm not an expert, but shouldn't this mean that once a device with HiSilicon Kirin 960 has a functional AOSP- based ROM a port to Mate 9 should be easy to develop? Even it is possible that ROMs from other devices directly work...
What do you think?
I have no technical knowledge on this stuff, but from what I've read you're right. And I really hope this will be true !
Treble might be the reason I stick with the Mate 9 instead of moving to the Pixel 2 XL.
"...because of the way the lower layer of Android was modularized, all Treble devices in the market will be able to boot a generic stock, AOSP Android build."
https://www.xda-developers.com/project-treble-custom-rom-development/
At very least it will make updates easier

I would think so, with treble enabled it would at least make major updates easier on the part of the manufacturer, if that is the case, compiling a "generic" version of the asop code easier to implement, especially when it comes to major version upgrades such as to let's say android 9, I'll have to look into it.

Why no Oreo based custom Roms?

Is there a reason why we don't have Oreo based custom Roms on the mare 9? Even the 7.x Roms don't seen to get many updates. Is it because most Devs have moved on to other devices or some other reason?
Maybe I'll stop my journey into the Huawei-world because of the lack of proper developer support. There is no AOSP* available for my Mate9 maybe because of EMUI. I can't even find a recovery for my MEDIAPad 10 lite.
I hate Google for dropping the Nexus series.
If/when the predominant amount of "android" based phones are released with Oreo in the next year, IF they have the full Oreo/project Treble setup, it should make custom roms more of a thing, if I read how project treble is suppose to work.
So in your guys's opinion, is it just better to return to stock Oreo with root on the mare 9 rather than an older custom rom? I feel like I'm stuck with no security updates and don't see that much more of an upside to an old custom vs the latest Oreo. Currently I'm using the latest Romaur but it hasn't been updated since late last year.

Android P semi GSI for MiMix2S

Hey there ladies and gentlemen!
Has anyone of you managed to get this rom running on the Polaris?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...ment/rom-android-p-developer-preview-t3816659
I did everything as described in the OP but get stuck at the MI Logo after the reboot. It bootloop there to infinity and back!
I'm afraid theres something essential missing like the correct kernel/vendor 8.1 or something like that.
I installed the P beta without any problems and had some other GSIs running on my device. Resurrection Remix was the first that worked fine and now I use Pixel experience 8.1 from the treble thread.
Is anyone interested in looking into this? Would be so nice to have a Android 9 AOSP / Pixel Experience kind of rom for this device.
Best regards

Roms sGSI based on PIE don´t works on Mi Mix 2S, bootloop. Only works P beta official by Google, and closed beta from Xiaomi.

Da*n, that's what I was afraid of. Do you know why exactly? The dev preview from Xiaomi works too, the kernel source and Android pie is officially released.
