Help with Strava and HW2 please. - Huawei Watch 2

Currently using Strava to track my cycling and finding in general The HW2 works pretty well, especially how easy it syncs to my phone afterwards. Seems to track pretty accurately with my favourite walks and rides. I am having two problems that hopefully someone can help with;
1. Whilst cycling the ride pauses occasionally when I have not pressed pause on screen. Does one of the physical buttons pause the session? Am I catching the button when descending over bumpy sections or climbing out of the saddle. I have considered wearing the watch upside down, so the buttons don’t catch the back of my hand. Has anyone got any other ideas?
2. The distance on my watch displays distance in kilometres but I would like this to be in miles. Can this be changed and do I do this on the Strava on my watch or my phone?
Thanks in advance.

i haven't used Strava, but may consider.
i use Map My Run - and that automatically pauses when it detects that I am NOT moving. So it could be a GPS signal thing. I would imagine to change the measure to miles, you could do that within the phone app (imperial).

Thanks for that. Found Strava settings in the app on the watch and changed units to imperial. Just discovered the bottom button on the watch pauses and resumes the work out. So it looks like I will have to wear the watch a bit looser or where it upside down. Not ideal but should work.

Watchfaces instructions for MN2

Hello, I've been using my MN2 for a very long time now but yesterday I was curious how other watchfaces work because since purchase, I've been using only the first one.
Obviously I understand that "double-tap" instruction for first six watchfaces, knock-knock and the watch wakes up.
But I'd like to know more about the other ones - three "movement" sensitive and one "horizontal position" sensitive. The instructions to wake the watch up by movement or raising a hand makes me a little bit confused. I don't really know how to read the time without shaking my hand which looks pretty stupid.
Especially the last watchface makes me think it's useless but I'm sure it's not. I can't figure out how the hell can I wake the watch up by following this instruction - "Turn watch towards you on horizontal arm to read time". I turn the watch towards me horizontally while wearing on my wrist and nothing happens
Could you help me or at least write some more accurate instructions?
Cheers!
My phone is T. Xperia T.
Back when I had my MN2, the best way to see the watch was to beat on it with a large club, or press the button. I usually pressed the button.
Waking up the watch to see the time was so difficult, that was my number one complaint. I never did see any differences with the different watch faces that were supposed to work differently.
I have been using the watchface that "should" activate the screen when you point the watch to your face (a.k.a. place the watch upwards). The cruel fact is that it doesn't work as intended.
I usually have to point the watch away and then point it back to my face repeatedly, even after that I usually end up just pressing the power button, because it's just easier.
I personally have no Idea how the people at sony usually check the time on their watch, since I at least expect that the motion control worked for them.

Initial impression - good potential, poor execution

I may have a lemon S2 Classic. 24 hours in and there are 3 relatively bad issues:
- Pedometer step counter does not work AT ALL. Wore watch all day and it shows I took *zero* steps.
- Heartbeat measuring is a major fail. Click the icon, and the resulting curve is erratic & all over the place. Never even locks on a heart rate and eventually gets to a "try again" button every single time.
- I have display set to always on. After a few seconds, it reverts to a plain black display with clock hands only. No other features. I can live with that, but wait a few minutes more and the screen goes completely black until I touch it or shake it to wake it back up.
I'm hoping someone can point out tips that mean some of this stuff is just user error, but I've spent a ton of time combing the settings both inside the watch as well as inside the phone app. HTC One M9, by the way, and the BT paired without a problem. Thinking Best Buy is about to get a watch returned! Thoughts on what I'm missing?
Sounds like you have a bad unit. My steps have been as accurate as any other wearable I've used. The heart rate monitor is excellent (you need to wear it snug though)... I can't comment on the ambient display as I don't use it

I think You should return it - the problems You mentioned don't occur on my S2c.
The pedometer is not perfect, at least not before You make more than ~10 steps. If less, the smartwatch is not recording it (as far as I read, it suppose to work like that, cause devs implemented it to be 'eco-energy' and not start recording with every move). But in daily use it works fine for me.
Heartbeat sensor should record fine, maybe the grip on the belt is to loose? Try to make some activity with sHealth and observe if the sensor records anything.
About display - if You choose from settings 'always on' it WILL show only plain black display with clock hands. That's how it suppose to work If You are interested in having the face always turned on then look in the Store for 'I am Alive' app.

How to stop s-health cycling recognition?

Hi to all.
I've a little problem: I go to work with a motorcycle and my S2 recognize it as a sporty activity (cycling): is there a way to stop this behaviour?
Thanks

GS, I'm with you. I have the exact same problem. Every day I have to zero out the record for that day and then I turn off the cycling tracker (hoping that it just might stay disabled, but of course it never does). I wish there was a way to permanently disable this tracker, as I seldom ride a bicycle and could easily do without tracking this activity...
There automatic activity recognition settings in S Health. Just go to settings
Sorry but I don't have this option...
It seems that you can disable all automatic detections, and that you can not select with detection disable...

I have this same issue, the only solutions I've found are:
1) Download S-Health and disable it through manage items, but that does nothing.
2) Contact Samsung for support, which I've read is basically the first solution.
I want to set my watch for all my notifications but I think it's weird how you can't disable a function like that. I also tried factory resetting my watch to no avail...
Same problem here.
I don't want to disable cycling because i DO cycle sometimes and want to record it.
What annoys me is everytime I step in my car or ride a motorbike it detects me as cycling for a few hours.
Seems to be no way to disable it.
Anyone found a fix?
I'm still having the same problem. Strangely, it only seems to happen in my truck. When I drive the sedan, nothing happens and my watch works as intended. i'm not sure what I do in the truck that has my watch convinced I'm cycling down the highway at 70 MPH.
I've had to run off auto-detect which makes me sad because I forget to log my walking and my elliptical all the time. The watch we very good at detecting these 2 activities.
For future users who end up here with a google search:
the workout auto-detection settings are not the the S-Heath (or now "Samsung Health") app on your phone, they are in the S-Heath app that's on the watch itself. In last screen, "settings"

Anybody tried cycling mode? Doesn't track distance...

Hi guys,
I'm using the S3 a lot for tracking my running and that's going pretty good. Really good actually. Satellites are locked super fast, in 4 or 5 seconds and tracking is accurate.
Today I tried the cycling activity. Unfortunately it does not track kms. Time and heart rate are logged but no distance.
I tried multiple times, satellite is locked, the program is running, time is ticking.
Does anybody have any experience, do I forget to do something?
Nobody tried cycling mode?
Not intentionally, a couple of times driving the S3 has decided I am cycling and offers encouragement.
If you start it manually I recall it has ALL the distance details, including a summary map. I don't think you get that if it senses a ride and starts automatically.

Well, I started it as an activity, so manually.
I'll do it again in a bit, see what happens.
With auto detecting it doesn't seem to use the GPS, like running is detected fine but no track logging.
Update : 1 just cycled 200 meters and it tracked 170. First 30 locking the satellites.
So... Why it didn't do anything yesterday, trying a bunch of times, booting in between, beats me. Maybe it's today's health update?
I'm having the same problem, walking tracks distance covered, but Cycling doesn't. Calories and time were tracked, but not distance. Really disappointing.
I use my Gear S3 to track my cycling activity all the time.
I go to the S Health app on the watch, set activity type to cycling then set a "target" based on how far I plan to cycle.
Whilst in the setup part of the watch app there are selectable options for "location" (make sure you are selecting this or it won't track where you are, which may be why you're not getting distance?)
I also select "auto pause" to pause tracking if I stop cycling. I then scroll up to the top and hit Go.
After a 3 second countdown it starts tracking my ride.
If I stop cycling briefly (at red traffic lights etc) the watch automatically pauses tracking. When I start riding again it automatically starts tracking again.
At the end of the ride I simply choose finish on the watch and confirm I wan't to finish.
It then syncs all manner of information with my phones S Health app including:
A map of the ride showing my route
Total distance (which is always with a few metres of my Cateye bike computer)
Total duration (e.g. the total time from starting the watch to hitting finish, including time the watch paused due to me being stationary)
Workout duration (the time I was actually moving)
Average & maximum speed
Average pace & maximum pace
Lowest & highest elevation
Total ascent & decent
Average & maximum heart rate
Workout calories & total calories
Weather
There is also a Selectable option to show the whole ride on a graph broken down by up to 2 options from speed/heart rate/elevation
When I used to rely on the Gear S3 workout detection to pickup my cycling, the information available at the end was very limited.
It works brilliantly when I set it manually before my ride (and only takes a few seconds too)
Do you have your phone with you while you cycle?
As I understand when your watch is connected to phone it uses phone for location.
I had a same problem and after I turned location on phone Off and than back to On problem disappeared.
Not sure if this is your problem but it is worth a try

Problem with distance and heart rate

I've never got this to work. Using the Walk function I walked around our mall, a distance of .7 mi, and it shows either a mile or a half mile, the heartrate is in the 120 range, and the time is off by 20 mins. Anyone have an answer for this? It kinda defeats the purpose of having a "fitness" function when it's not accurate.
Auto pause and / or Dynamic workout might be your culprit.
Auto Pause will automatically pause the workout if it thinks you are taking a break, then restarts it when you start moving.
Dynamic Workout Detection will start a new workout if it thinks you are exercising. It might be overriding your Walk function if it thinks you're doing more than walking.
