I can't even understand how you can see things this way.
@Funk Wizard just opened a thread with no real reason.
I was convinced he won't post it here first, maybe this can prove something to his followers.
Really @Funk Wizard keep doing your guides, those are good, don't try to impersonate something you're not.
Trying to update over my (actually extremely satisfied) Hydrogen OS PIE beta 3 install.
Will see how it goes - did some backups.

Hi All,
I successfully installed AOSP Oreo 8.1 system image on whyred, thanks to treble. It successfully booted and all the things are working fine till now. Here is the screenshot of the device info:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Steps to do the same:
1)Unlock Bootloader!
2) Flash Miui 9 China 8.1 Fastboot Rom from the link below(instructions available on Miui website):
http://bigota.d.miui.com/V9.5.4.0.O...EICNFA_20180308.0000.00_8.1_cn_c2879bfe3a.tgz
3) Boot and setup the rom just to make sure.
4) Now, download the AOSP Oreo 8.1 system.img, from the link below. You have 2 options, either download the img with gapps and su included or without them, your choice. I went for option a). (Thanks to @phhusson for the system imgs)
a) system.img for A-only ARM64 devices with GApps and SU:
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=962187416754465917
b) system.img for A-only ARM64 devices vanilla:
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=962187416754465916
5) Replace the system.img in the fastboot rom downloaded in step 2 with the system.img downloaded in step 4. Now, flash the rom as you did in step 2.
6) Your phone will automatically reboot after successful flashing.
7) Enjoy AOSP Oreo 8.1 :highfive:
Don't forget to hit the like button!
Also, if you have any queries or anything else, you can join the official telegram group here: https://t.me/redminote5proofficial
Bugs:
1) Screen doesn't wake up using power button after devices sleeps.
Solution: Turn off 'Jump to Camera' from gestures settings.
2) Lowest brightness setting is not low enough.
3) No voice in-call
Nice :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

Hi @harshs91, since the Oreo based ROM is available for Indian version as well, do you have any plans of flashing it and then trying GSI image? Maybe that can resolve camera and other related issues?

Disclamier: maybe someone already got it work in this way, I don't know, I just found this method.
I want to share a workaround I found that lets you enable substratum themes on Android P beta.
I am currently using Pixel with Android P Beta 3 and Magisk 16.4
It's pretty simple:
- Install substratum
- Install a theme
- Compile something you want (if there is a choice, "Android Oreo" or "8.1" should work good enough)
- Go to /sdcard/.substratum
- Copy the theme you just created
- Paste it in /system/app with any root file manager
- Reboot
- Enable theme in substratum overlays
- Done
Be careful, most probably systemui related themes can cause crash, since this is android 9 and you're installing android 8.x themes.
We already knew about this implementation and was already implemented since March on our internal betas.
We were holding back so that Google doesn't patch it that easily once the final previews drop.
Users and themers who use this method will use it at their own risk. Future updates of subs may or may not list these overlays because we will use a different but similar method to keep track of our overlays (for "uninstall all").
An XDA portal post will be released soon with the P beta in their hands, and afterwards it will be public released by our current maintainer - @MSF Jarvis.
So I joined the beta group and went to install in Google store and this is what I'm seeing????never gave the option to install?

Uhh I think you just did the opposite and removed yourself from the beta That's why it's asking you to downgrade the app by reinstalling.
on beta build 999 and cannot install sai's overlays on the ui or swift black for the apps. Any idea what I am missing?
I'm using beta 999, Mine says "can not fall back to rooted mode".

Don't work for me too, I compile theme and nothing change
Thanks for sharing this is working for me on 9.0 official, who knows then the subs app is going to get updated to work so this is a great workaround in the mean time!
Can you guys tell me which themes your using for this? I tried using swift dark but no go. Maybe I shouldn't try the systemUI ones?
There are a few themes that are already compatible with pie but not as complete as Swift black. First, i have not tested myself but version 998 is what I have installed and is rumored to be only version compatible with pie. I went to apkmirror and downloaded it, so I would check in substratum that you are on version 9 9 8. I like pitch black (pie compatible) as my themer of the system UI. And I also use it to theme the apps it supports. And it's fine to use Swift black for everything but the system UI, but you have to follow steps outlined below . The problem I think everyone's having with swift black is you have to then an enable the overlays manually as it does not do it via the substratum app automatically when building. So follow these steps until its pie compatible: build, reboot, now enable each SB overlay then you are good to go. Good luck ?

Victory works well it has Android 9 as an option now. I also use Swift dark for apps only system doesn't theme. Also Valerie but it has an issue when you activate the system theme you don't get notifications.
Guys I have two devices with P: Xiaomi RN4x with AOSP 9 and a Xiaomi Mi A1 with semi 9 (PR1). On A1 i can use the method mentioned in OP. But on the other device that doesn't work, because there are no entries in /sdcard/.substratum, but directly in /system/app. After a reboot the files disapeared. Using 998 on both.
Any idea?
The method in the OP is outdated. See recent comments as you can theme without workaround

I have read all thread no one mentioned other steps jow to do it.
Plus when i copy overlays to system/app after reboot it disapear.. but I just pasted them in to system/app without folder. But I have set permission to rw-r-r.
The method I discovered is now outdated, I know, but since substratum is now compatible with Pie officially you just need the app, I used 998 beta from telegram channel and it always worked just fine. Now that v1001 is 100% updated to work with final Pie, this process in OP isn't necessary anymore :good:

The main reason I left OnePlus in the 1st place. The UI was too Spartan with lack of theming support because of the OnePlus optimisations. Always ended up running MIUI patch ROMs on my OP3. I was further infuriated with the Oreo update. My phone still looked like Lollipop. Ended up skipping the 5 and 5T because of this. But then more Substratum themes started to support OOS on Oreo due to native support and that's how I bought the 6 at launch. Am glad that OnePlus is making these changes.

Vivo NEX is the first Chinese Phone i have bought........and i must say its just so fluid......absolutely zero issues in last six months........design is so futuristic......although i hate that Vivo and oppo has started to put pop-up camera in cheaper phones......
Regarding funtouch os, imo android updates are overrated. As long as my phone work this smooth with absolutely no issue, i can't be happier. Btw Funtouch os 9 looks really good. one more thing, am i the only one who thinks stock android and its close variations looks very mundane? and oneplus 6t looks very ugly (i hate notches).
Vivo Nex S most of the case will get Fantouch 9 but in unknown time deliver.
I'm only curious about AOD if they ever bring unlimited notification app with Fantouch 9.
Current implementation is half bakes with only SMS and missed call notification like we are in 2005 and not 2018-19.
Native Dark mode is also great feature with OLED as we see more and more adaption from other OEM like Sammy,Huawei,Xiaomi,Oneplus.

I am happy to announce, that I have successfully ported stable Oxygen OS to the Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 and 4 Plus!:victory:
Using a custom OOS vendor I was able to fix bugs and bring this smooth and stable OS to our device.
Features
-Based on latest OnePlus 7 OxygenOS Open Beta 15
-Fast and working face unlock
-All OOS icon packs included
-Debloated
-Google Camera Go
Bugs
-Maybe Fingerprint on Plus
Everything else is working as far as I know
ROM DOWNLOAD (No need for Gapps as they are already included)
Installation
Required Firmware (MIUI China Dev 9.8.29)
Recommend Recovery (OrangeFox)
1. Make sure your storage is not encrypted and you are using the correct firmware
2. Wipe Dalvik, Data, Cache, System and Vendor
3. Flash the rom zip
4. Reboot
5. IMPORTANT Install activity launcher, launch demo mode and disable always on ambient display or you will experience an issue with a black light in sleep mode. Also remember to hide notch in settings or your UI will look weird.
5. (Optional) Reboot to recovery and root with magisk
6. Enjoy OOS!!
Developers, feel free to use this vendor in your work, as long as you give credit to both me and ProtoDeVNan0, who's vendor I based mine on. :highfive:

congratulations ibooth2004??? you are very strong ??
I think it's a great version, but it's a big bug for me that wechat video call can't be used. Please fix it, thank you very much.

I will fix this in the next build, this release was more of an early test build, the next build will be bug free.

This is a bug that occurs only when hiding gesture bar, I will fix in the next build as this is an early test build.

Can anyone check to see if this works with xXx NoLimits or any of the OOS customization/debloating magisk mods?
I have an OP7 Pro and acutely aware of all the shady stuff that comes baked into stock OOS. I'm not sure what all has already been debloated
Wow!
I can't wait for stable build.
Thank you soooo much

PM me about the Shady stuff and I will remove it, I have never used a OnePlus device so I am unaware of this. Since this port is based on a GSI it may have already been removed but I'd rather be safe.
