update it from system update and it will lock your bootloader and frp.

I suggest you should uninstall Magisk. Then remove all security (finger, pin...). Then factory reset. After that do the update using hurupdater.
I got many strange issues with Magiskā¦.
Thanks but I already did that without reset or anything. Just uninstall Magisk and flash. But now I want to go back to stock and uninstall TWRP recovery. I read that it can only be done via flashing another recovery. So where can I find stock recovery for BLN-AL20. I tried Googling. No luck. Also after the flash I noticed my sim didn't have any signal. It happened once when I rebranded and was fixed by Changing a line in build.prop. now after the update it was fixed the same way. So do I have to do that every time I update i.e. root and edit it? Is there a work around? Thanks for your help

I've got my FRD-L14 (64GB US honor 8) running stable with B360 firmware (released 02-13-17) bootloader unlocked, SU flashed via TWRP.
I wanted to try the latest B385 OTA firmware flash so I used fastboot to flash my current stock B360 System.img, boot.img, and recovery.img to be sure I am running all stock boot/system files before flashing the B360 OTA.
I rebooted from fastboot successfully and continued with the OTA interface to install latest system update, it rebooted into Huawei recovery interface, verifying, installing, and then fails to verify and install.
Do I really have to lock the bootloader and wipe the entire phone in order to install latest OTA and then re-unlock bootloader, reflash twrp, and restore data ?
Thanks !
Well, that wasn't hard.
I used the "download latest full package" in the top-right menu of the OTA updates screen. This successfully installed B385 OTA update package for me without failure, while bootloader unlocked. Imagine that. I hope this helps someone else! Now, to figure out how to use magisk rather than supersu....

Hi,
I have a L09 B381 stock firmware installed, twrp, rooted with magisk installed. I would like to update to latest stock available, B389. HiSuite inform me about the update, but not my phone system.
Is there an easy way to update, or will I have to factory reset, update, root again, and reinstall every apps?
Alternativly, do you have a up to date custom rom to recommend?
Thanks
If you would like to update, I recommend you to go back full stock and update through dload (if updater don't work)
About custom ROMs, any ROM is stable and good.
bro just flash the firmware available in firmware finder via twrp, B398sp01 is the latest

Ok, so, I install the latest, downloaded with firmware finder, and flash it with TWRP. Will I have to reinstall all my apps? To root again?
Thanks
Don't install experimental stock rom versions.
You can update to B389 via FF with a number of options.
Whether through the proxy install or via TWRP ( with unlocked bootloader ofc) you should find guides for that in their respective threads.
As for custom roms they all randomly reboot on high accuracy gps and battery life is generally somewhat worse than on stock.
About 3-4h SoT for me but obviously that depends on your usage
Edit: You should be able to update to 389 without factory reset though, right?
Might be wrong but maybe just flash the smaller ota file or update via proxy?
Should be in the FF thread though

That's great, although it's frustrating to re-install apps manually.

Update manager download the update but it fails to update in twrp recovery.
Please suggest. I don't want to lose data.
Can someone provide zip update package so that i can update in twrp??
You have to remove majisk
Relock boot
Then you will receive official update
Then unlock and reinstall majisk

There is no need to relock.
I didnt whe 110 came out and it still updated... rooted with Magisk as well
@any_thing
Check the ROMs/Kernels/Recoveries section, there's a modified stock recovery that allows for updating w/o relocking the Bootloader.*
Once complete, put TWRP back & root, you will not lose any data/apps/etc...... as you would by simply relocking your Bootloader....
* YMMV,this modified recovery may not be compatible w/your model.

I have the BKL-L04 model & got an update notice earlier today:
While on stock rooted with TWRP & Magisk, the update downloaded & attempted to install, but,it failed.
So,just flash the stock recovery for your model & take the update w/o relocking your bootloader.
You will not lose any data from switching recoveries,at least on this phone.
(If you want to unroot 1st,that's fine, but, not necessary, flashing the modified stock recovery image unroots your phone anyway.)
After taking the update, flash the TWRP & Magisk (& Magisk Manager App,if it disappeared) as you did previously.
Just posting what worked for me,& in no way are my experiences/usage intended to contradict posts/suggestions from others, especially if they have the exact same model of phone as yours.
Hope this helps. :good:

I had rooted phone with magisk installed, I received 2 updates like that - automatically lost root privileges, but I didn't receive .161 update (EIS update still not available for me?) any way to get this update?
PS my bootloader is unlocked... do I need lock it to get an update? and how to lock it?
Hi guys,
I tried to update my Bln-l21 from emui 5 (nougat) to emui 8 (oreo) using the guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/how-to/guide-update-to-emui-8-t3807806
It worked so I went on to install TWRP from https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/development/rom-emui-8-0-0-honor-6x-dual-sim-t3794079, as suggested in a comment on the guide.
Only then I realized that in order to install Gapps I needed GSM installer, so I downloaded it, but it didn't work because it loaded TWRP instead of the stock erecovery.
I started to panic real bad
I tried reinstalling the firmware using hwota8 (since i had upgraded i figured i had to use that), but it completely destroyed my phone.
Now it wont boot, recovery wont boot and neither erecovery. I can only get it to enter fastboot.
I know, I am a total noob, but PLEASE help me out on this, i'm desperate.
Thank you so much
If you can enter into fastboot, just install twrp, boot into twrp and flash the ROM using HuRUpdater. Use your external storage for the HuRUpdater and the ROM files. The instructions are here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/tool-flash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279
Before flashing through Hurupdater wipe system Cache Data Internal and Dalvik/ART Cache.

Thank you for the answer, I was able to boot in TWRP (the one in the original post) and I downloaded Huru, but I'm unsure of which firmware to use. I want to downgrade back to nougat and rebrand back to europe (since the guide in the original post made me change to china).
Thank you again
Just use China and then install a custom ROM

Just use the original files you used in the first place. The ones you downloaded from the thread. In terms of a custom ROM there is a thread in Custom ROMS section for Pixys OS. Just search stable Pie ROM for Honor 6x and install it. It's very smooth, etc.
This is a EMUI 8 ROM. If you want to go back to EMUI 5 don't use this. This will only restore EMUI 8. After that flash Custom ROM Don't go back to EMUI 5

Hi, I successfully flashed with Hurupdater and I'm going trough the installation of the pixys rom. The guide says that i need to flash the stock recovery for my device, where can I find it?
Can I pull it from the firmware I used for Huru? If that's the case, how?
Thank you again
I do have instructions over there but cause you asked I will tell.
Extract the Update.zip the large file. In it you will have an Update.app. Now serach for Huawei Update Extractor on XDA and Download it. Run the application and navigate to Update.app. Select it and in settings of Extractor uncheck the first option. Now extract Recovery_Ramdis.img and flash it. Luck.

Really there is no need for that. I did what anyone would do. Your thanks is enough.
Can you tell me what version you flashed. What TWRP did you use and what was the message after flashing. Now regarding Magisk, I am gonna assume you flashed the ZIP and the Magisk Manager app didn't show up, correct? To solve that just download Magisk Manager v6.0.1 and install the apk.
If that's not the issue then download any Root Checker app to see if device is rooted. Although I guess you need Magisk Manager to validate Root access. So just install Magisk Manager and let me know what it says. If it says device is unrooted then you probably need to flash Magisk again.
P.S: I don't have a PayPal. Not yet available in my country.

I really appreciate your kindness,
I flashed the latest version of magisk available from the official thread using the same TWRP from before (king of mezi TWRP from elemental rom thread) and it looked fine... Yes, the app didn't show up, I will try with the manager and I'll let you know.
[edit] I installed the manager and turns out it actually worked the first time and I'm already rooted!
Thank you again, you've been wonderful!
Glad to help.
Hello,
I have a Honor 8 FRD-L09 8.0.0.521 (C432), I rooted it on previous version, but I don't remenber exactly why but I was blockedat TWRP step, so I could'nt root.
Now it's a stock unroot.
I would like to updated to latest firmware possible, root with magisk and reinstall everything back the easiest possible.
What is the latest version I could install?
I am a bit rusty, Is there a good tutorial around?
Thanks
just boot up twrp and flash the latest magisk zip, if you dont have the magisk manager installed after that just download it from the same thread and install it.
if you cant flash twrp to your device, make sure your bootloader is unlocked and try again
Ok thanks, usual procedure, I will try it, and come back here's, thanks
