My P1000 shut down randomly, so I tried to put everything new on it. After flash and all the other stuff it won't run properly anymore. Everytime I get 'System UIDs Inconsistent'. used Odin and Heimdall, I did wipe the data and the cache, I can see with ADB it is gone, but after reboot all the corrupt apps and system failures are back again. I installed several different firmwares, nothing worked.
I have changed permissions with chmod and deleted by hand several files, amongst them the everytime restarting but crashing apps like skype and whatsapp.
When I perform wipe, delete, rename or move actions in ADB the results are what I wanted. But when I restart everything is back again. I even deleted almost anything, did not work.
This happened in all the roms I installed, so it must be a problem in the filesystem or so. Any idea how to permanently delete stuff while in adb shell? I already gave myself all the rights on the tablet, synced it after the deletes, nothing works.
Or does anybody know how to start from scratch?
I cannot start the tab anymore in normal mode, but I do have recovery mode and overcome cwm.

try plugging it up while its in cwm and access the adb shell while its displaying. the prompt should be ~# if its universal. maybe you can completely wipe everything and flash a recovery at the same time? that may keep it deleted. i dont know. just a suggestion. i hope you succeed... tell me how it goes.

i tried all that, even did a complete format of the internal sd card, in adb with parted and also in windows with a mounted card. it says it is deleted, but after reboot it is all back again...
Do you have a backup of a working ROM you can restore?
Crap.... Hmm... Have you tried any formatting software? Try to find a programmer who can wipe it completely, re partition, and reinstall the stock rom. Then try to restore to something before the problems

Recovery rom can be installed, but is gone after reboot. Formatting in windows or linux (adb) performs without errors, but after reboot, yes you guessed right, it is back. So this internal sd card has a life of its own, the only thing I can do is install a working system with flashing, but then no app will work, every activation of whatever app will give inconsistent uids errors. And I cannot install new apps, because vending.apk (market) will crash. I installed vending by hand (adb), then it work for a moment, but after reboot to use it the normal way, again crashed.
AS LONG AS I CANNOT REPLACE THE SDCARD IT IS HOPELESS?!?
This morning I left the unwilling android tab in the power adapter to be fully charged for a new go. But: it is now a real brick. It won't power up any more, the button lights do not flash anymore, the only thing it does, is showing the battery. Never again will I buy such an expensive underdeveloped piece of plastic crap again!
Calm down... You need to boot into recovery mode and try using formatting the sd. If comp can recognize, format the sd with the computer. It's not the android. It's what you did. Sorry

Unfortunately my Nexus 5 kinda died on me today and I'm almost devastated. The phone froze and then restarted (I pressed the power button a couple of time, so I’m not sure if I restarted it or it did it by itself) and stayed stuck on the Google logo screen. I tried a couple of things but none works – booting it in recovery -> wipe partition cache; shutting it down and restarting it; leave it like that and praying to God…
I need your help. What can I do in order to fix this and keep my personal data on the phone – apps (with their data – I have a couple of journaling apps that are very important to me), messages, pictures, history, calls and so on…
The most important thing for me is to retrieve this data, so a factory reset is out of the question. Is there any way I can fix this? If not, how can I recover/retrieve all my data from the phone?
P.S. I'm using the latest Android OS, without that last OTA update, the booloader is unlocked and stock...
You could flash twrp, create a nandroid backup, copy the backup to your phone for safe keeping, restore the backup to an identical phone (you'll have to change the serial number of the backup to the phone that will be used for the restore), and hope it all works.
If you don't have access to an identical phone, you could try wiping the phone and restoring the backup.
You could flash twrp and copy off the important data.
Lastly, you could flash a stock rom, flash twrp, and restore your data and apps.

Thank you for your kind and quick reply. I'm almost a complete android illiterate so I will bug you with a couple more questions, just for a better understanding.
So flashing TWRP means installing it...
1. Am I able to do this, considering the state of my phone? And will I be able to do the nandroid backup?

3. My phone is not rooted. Does this matter?
4. My phone has a capacity of 15 gb, of which approx. 1.5 gb were left free... Will I still be able to do the backup?

The TWRP tutorial should be good - it's an XDA post...
You don't have to install TWRP, though it's a good idea unless you really don't want it. You can run it temporarily and on the next boot you'll be back to normal stock recovery. Booting temporarily will allow you to make a backup, but the risk is that you also back up the problem and then restoring the backup will also restore the problem - but it's worth a try.

Probably not - a backup is probably about 3GB, but if you manage to get as far as connecting to your PC and seeing your internal storage in Windows Explorer, you can copy the essential data (photos, etc.) to the PC and then do the backup and attempt the restore.
Press power & volume down simultaneously until you get to the bootloader screen with the green robot on its back. Connect the device to the PC - I'd recommend a direct laptop connection, not via a USB hub.
Start a CMD window and navigate to your PC adb/fastboot directory.
Type "fastboot devices" (no apostrophes) - if you're properly connected, you'll see something like "459uirgggg4 fastboot", which is your device id. A blank line means no connection.
To boot TWRP temporarily - "fastboot boot twrp.img".
To install TWRP permanently - "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img".
Once complete, use the volume keys to find "Reboot recovery". When you're in recovery, with any luck you may be able to see your internal storage in Windows Explorer, and you can at least retrieve your data. You could then try the restore, and if it doesn't work, a full installation of the latest ROM and rebuild your device from there (though Google automatically restores most of your apps if you had chosen that option).
Double-check these commands against other posts - I offer no guarantees, but at least a bit of hope...

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. Photos are simple to identify, take up quite a lot of room, and can easily be transferred to your PC for safety and then deleted from the device. Anything free-standing (i.e. photos, for example, are independent of the app which captured them) and easily-identifiable, copy and delete from the device. Things like SMSs are trickier, since they may be held in not-obvious places or formats. If you take a copy to your PC, and delete to free space, you may have enough space for the backup, but as I mentioned you may just be backing up the problem as well as the system (backups don't tend to copy user data).

Okay, here's the current situation - I managed to connect it to my pc and it's visible.
I saved my photos and cleared up some space. I now have 9 GB of available memory.
I tried TWRP (didn't install it though, as I receive an error, saying that it can't complete the command) and manage to boot it and enter the backup menu.
Unfortunately, it cannot backup my data, as it remains stuck on "updating partition details"...
Not sure what to do... Should I wait longer? It stayed like that for approx. 50 min, before I restarted it. Should I try a previous version of TWRP? Should I try a different program/method of doing a nandroid backup?
Also, there were options to backup my: system, cache, data, boot etc. Choosing to backup only my data would do the trick? As I said, I'm most concerned about my journaling apps, that were not backed up.
Anyways, here is something interesting that happened after I restarted it during the TWRP stuck backup process - the phone started and passed the google logo screen! And I managed to enter it. Things appeared to be normal and I was overwhelmed by hope. However, when I tried to open an app, it froze and started all over again. And one more detail, the battery was low, like 10%. It was low yesterday, too, when it died the first time. Could it be related? Do you guys make anything out of this? Should I proceed by backing up my data and flash a new OS?

The first thing to do is to get the battery properly charged. Some functions (I'm thinking specifically of encryption, which demands at least 50% charge plus the device plugged in) won't work properly on a low charge. It may not be the cause, but it certainly won't help if the battery is low.
9GB is now plenty to take an entire backup. The TWRP backup screen shows how much data is in each partition. I'm not entirely sure exactly what "data" does back up - I very much doubt (from experience) that it will back up things like photos, but as I said before some data is stored in obscure places and you may be lucky. Back up everything except cache - the defaults in 3.0.2.
Definitely back up EFS. Read around and see the havoc it causes if you have problems and don't have it backed up.

There shouldn't be any delay - my backups of 6GB on my N6 take only 5 minutes - the N5 is slower but not that much slower, and you have a lot less to back up. If TWRP still continues to be difficult, yes, try the previous version. Even back to a version 2 if necessary.

Dahawthorne, thank you! I managed to make a backup after following your suggestion regarding the battery.
However, I didn't do a factory reset... not yet. Something strange happened while I tinkering with it (basically starting it and shutting it down with a furry) - it entered the OS! And everything was there and seemed to be fine, I was able to access my apps and saved a couple of things. But... when I clicked on a web page, it froze again and I was back at square one. Could it be that I have too many tabs/web pages in the background?
If it's only Chrome (or other browser?) that's making it freeze, you might want to try installing a different browser.
In the meantime, given your situation, I'd concentrate on recovering all the data you want and copying it to your PC for safety in case you have to resort to a factory reset or full re-flash of the ROM.
In case you can't find the data for the reasons I originally mentioned, you could try the Play Store for backup applications - e.g. there's a good SMS backup app which will back up & restore your texts. There may be something similar for your journaling app.
(And what's a "furry"...? )

Thanks guys, I was wondering about if I'm decrypted or not. How do I check? It's probably a dumb question =/. I ended up installing another ROM and it uses Magisk baked into it so I don't see an option for mount namespace separation. Maybe I can attempt to backup now just to see if it works with this ROM or maybe it's not decrypted still. For some odd reason it refused to let me install Facebook, or Facebook Messenger from the play store and one of my apps won't start. It just tries to start then crashes. I downloaded a couple "updates" from a site that says they are stock ROMs. "update_full_hw_usa.zip" is 544 mb and "update" is 1.72gb. I'm thinking of going back to stock but that would probably lock the bootloader and erase twrp right?
Edit: I tried to back up again but it does the same thing. I did notice it also says "failed to unmount /DATA". It might have said that before.
Edit: I see under security the encrypt phone section. At the bottom the "Encrypt Phone" button is faded out and above it I see "Charge your battery and try again" and "Plug in your charger and try again" so I'm not too sure but guessing that means I'm not encrypted but it is faded out so maybe it is?

Go to twrp, advanced, file manager. Browse to /data/app and see if you see normal folders or randomly named folders. If the latter you are encrypted.
Same if you tap install then try to install from internal sd.

Thank you. I should have checked that before I put another ROM. I did see randomly named folders when I connect it to my laptop but I can't remember when but I bet it was in that folder. I ended up within TWRP formatting data I think but it did have my type "yes" and said it would eliminate encryption, then I installed the new ROM. I should check and see if the new ROM has encryption. So far data on the root drive isn't encrypted and data in the android folder isnt' encrypted when I check with my laptop.
Edit: It's backing up so must not be encrypted. I check using the file manager in twrp and can see all the files in data. Thanks for you help. I guess if I had sensitive info on my phone then it would be something to do but I don't have a need to encrypt.

If you did format data again now, flash the data files supplied by your rom. (Public and Hw data) else you will have problems with themes and stuff.

That's for OPO6.
When I used payload dumper on the OTA for this device I ended up with 34 .img files. When I used TWRP to backup all the partitions from the OxygenOS I end up with 12 .win files. When I used dd commands to get copies of boot_a & boot_b and persist, I end up with .img files. When I used dd commands to get EFS backup I ended up with modemst1.bin and modemst2.bin.
I have all these back ups now but I'm not sure which type of file to use and when.
I have TWRP and Lineage on my 8T and they're working great. But I'd like to now restore OxygenOS, install the latest OTA, re-install TWRP, then install a newer version of Lineage. There's a good chance I'll slip up and have to recover my phone at some point and I'd like to know first if I'm better off trying to get TWRP booted and then restoring all the .win backups, or if I should just flash all the .img files from the payload dumper.
Can anyone offer some tips or explain the difference?

I've read through that thread and made a lot of notes, but I guess I'm just wondering at this point, since we have a fully-functional TWRP is it the case that as long as I have the .win files from the TWRP backup of boot, dtbo, super and data partitions that should be all I need?
Persist.img & Modemst1/2.bin & boot_a/b.img can be discarded? Or would you keep these on hand for other reasons?

Persist and modem images presumably contain IMEI information, so better keep them somewhere safe. Boot_a/b.img can be discarded.

My phone had Lineage and TWRP installed and was running great, but I wanted to try out the backup and restore option of TWRP. So I backed up /data then used TWRP to restore the OxygenOS to the version I was using right before I installed Lineage. I restored OxygenOS to both slots and also I formatted /data.
After doing an minimal setup on OxygenOS, taking a quick look around to see if everything looked okay and rebooting to system a couple of times, I used TWRP to install LineageOS again. That seemed to work fine. I did minimal setup, took a look around, rebooted a couple of times, so far; so good.
I then followed the instructions from theincognito on Steps for backing up and restoring data in TWRP to restore the data partition:
It seemed to work fine, except I was never presented with a blank screen (a clue?) and the phone just booted to system normally. My apps and settings appeared to be restored BUT the 3-button system navigation icons (home/back/switchapps) were missing. So whenever I navigated away from the home screen there was no way to get back except to reboot the phone. It didn't matter if I switched to 2-button navigation or gesture navigation, none of it worked. So I guess the navigation options are all apps and those apps malfunctioned when /data was restored. Also, I could not enable Advanced Restart for the Power Menu. That's probably a system app, too. I didn't have a password on the phone at any time, or a SIM card installed. I know the TL;DR instructions in post #3 say that you should just reboot to system again if you have this problem, but doing so didn't fix the problem for me. I must have made a mistake at some point.
I ended up wiping the phone, doing a clean install of Lineage and setting up the apps and preferences the old-fashioned way.
I'd like to try this again to see if I can get it to work. Does anyone have suggestions of what went wrong?
Should I have tried restoring /data a second time before giving up and wiping the phone?
Does the fact I didn't get the expected blank screen after restoring /data have any significance?
Did the problem more likely originate with the backup process or the restore process?
Oh boy, it just dawned on me... Should I have also restored the backup of Boot/dtbo/Super? I assumed those wouldn't change if you were restoring to the exact same version of Lineage so I didn't bother with it.
I stumbled across a trick to get the restored data backup working again. I went to Settings --> Apps & Notifications --> App Info. Then I selected the option "Show System" from the list at the top with the 3 vertical dots. From the list of apps I selected 3-button navigation and then selected "force stop". After that, I rebooted and all the settings that were missing before were magically back in place, and both the Status Bar and the Navigation Bar were functioning and configured just the way I had them when I did the backup. I don't know anything about how system apps work so I can't explain why this helped, but I tested it twice with fresh installations of LineageOS and it worked exactly the same both times.
I should add that between this post and the one above from February 1st, I have re-installed Oxygen OS many times using old and new OTA zips, and installed Lineage OS several times, first on one slot then the other. And each time I've restored various back ups of LineageOS system files and LineageOS data files following the instructions, but always the result was a partial restoration of user configurations and missing status and navigation bars. I wonder that I'm the only person who found that booting twice after a data restore didn't bring back those menus. But hopefully if it happens to someone else they'll find this post and know what to do.
I've been having a bunch of problems recently with my rooted 7 Pro including Magisk Manager constantly "keeps stopping", not being able to access Hide to add new applications, banking apps starting to detect that I'm rooted and camera issues: the camera app not starting, the camera not popping up automatically and the image being usually reversed and occasionally upside down as well, depending on the app I'm using.
Given that Magisk appears to be dead/dying, having lost its developer to Google, I thought I'd start by getting rid of that and then performing a firmware upgrade in necessary to see if that fixes the other issues.
I uninstalled the Manager then ran the uninstall zip within TWRP. Rebooting though hangs on the initial "ASUS" screen.
I can get back to TWRP ok so I guess I'm not bricked yet. My next thought was to try a system upgrade but I seem to need to know the exact version I need, which, seemingly, I can only get via a working phone?
From the back, it says only model I002D along with SN and IMEIs.
I've done a TWRP backup to the external uSD card, and I have a syncthing copy of all of the internal memory that I can access without root.
My questions:
1. Is there something there which can help my figure out which firmware I need to download?
2. Is there any way to install this without wiping the phone?
