Hi Guys.
I just purchased the u11 + htc after a long time with the g4.
Before rooting it, i would like to see a screenshot of the possibilities of kernel aduitor regarding screen settings. I need to decrease the contrast (not the brightness)
Is there anyone with the wind kernel installed that can sent me screenshot of the screen settings of kernel aduitor? Is it possible to decrease the contrast of the screen? Personally, it is too high for me (i need to decrease it, which i only can do after rooting).
Thanks.
Wind kernel?
We have cleanslate kernel and for now no kcal control which is strange given the u12+ got kcal
Thanks for feedback. It seems like kcal does not support u11+ or u12+. What I understood from the forums. I tried wind. Still, decreasing contrast has issues with wind kernel. Not very clear.

Hi there,
I saw this question being asked on other Samsung devices (with different level of responses), but none so far on the Infuse 4G. What has everyone been doing to optimize their battery life while maintaining a usable screen?
Mine is attached.
Thanks.
Chris
I am running MoKee with pretty decent battery life but am currently experimenting with reducing screen resolution and tweaking CPU & GPU settings (using Kernel Aduitor) to see if I can squeeze more out of a charge. Not really sure what the best settings are to maximise battery while keeping smooth everyday performance (I don't game or do any very heavy tasks or multitasking). I thought that it might be possible to get near SD625 stamina from the SD820 seeing as they are both built on the 14nm process, but the architecture is very different (ours has the quad-core big little set up with kryo, as opposed to the 625's octa-core A53 set up). At the moment I am trying it with the little cores left at default and the big cores max frequency down clocked by about 25%. I haven't changed the governors. I also down clocked the GPU max frequency a bit. Anyone have any advice regarding an optimal set up?
Not sure about the best settings but for sure I'm waiting for your feedback regarding this change and battery life. It should be improving it, but nobody knows how much.
Also I've noticed that in youtube if there is 720p or 1080p, the default setting is 720p (of course our screen is a multiple of 720p).
Are the pixels visible?
Couldn't see pixels with reduced screen resolution, even at 720p. Of course it's only rendering a lower resolution image then stretching it over the physical
1440p display. The result is just a softer image. Looks a bit strange, but 1080p wasn't too bad. However, didn't seem to have any effect on battery life and surprisingly at 720p I got a worse Antutu score than normal, so I have given up and returned to 2K.
I feel sorry for that I was really hoping for some way to increase the battery life a bit.
Hey guys... Today I found something interesting in our German Android forum. There's a group of people who are developing a great Rom for our device. It's just called the telegram Rom.
So the Rom will include scripts tweaks and a full working app for changing governors. So you will be able to get a much better battery life. The German guys talking about 20 to 30 percent extra power for our device.
The hole project behind this was founded here on xda but mainly developed for the Oneplus-3.
But in fact the whole workaround is working on any device that's running a SD820 processor.
Here is the link to the site
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/advanced-interactive-governor-tweaks-t3476589
So maybe you like to have a look. There are also complete explanations of how the SD820 works related to energy management and voltage at minimal and maximum clock speed!
I hope this can answer your questions.
Thanks for sharing Lizard82.
I follow the thread and use AKT... i am using the profile called Project Zhana & X.A.N.A v4.2. 14 hr sot is unheard of but I am getting close to 6hrs sot with xposed loaded which I am already impressed. It is is way better then what I used to get around 3 hrs sot. I am running revolution 21s rom which is very similar to EUI and not the most optimized rom with heavy battery drain. and I am happy that this phone finally has a good battery life. Appreciate Lizard82.
The sot really depends of what you do with the phone, and what apps run when the phone is on idle. I changed the resolution to 1080p but didn't notice any difference, so I went back to 1440p. There are tons of threads about kernel Adiutor, you won't have a hard time finding it
For best battery on Nougat I did this on Nexus 7.1 and AOSP 7.1 roms with BS kernel:
- Use rom that can use Black Screen kernel 2.1/2.2 or later
- Use kernel Adiutor to change CPU governor to impulse (or Darkness)
- Set value in Govenor tuneable (locate just under CPU Governor touch it to go inside to change value) : highspeed_freq to 307200, set Powersave_Bias to 1. I changed both BIG and LITTLE CPU core in kernel Adiutor.
- I think keep AKT profile on stock/unchange no need to set it is ok

A higher rating indicates that the display can get extremely dim, ideal for reading in very dark environments.

The brightness are low enough when reading XDA on Tapatalk in Night mode setting. But much to bright on low screen even with the background set as black. Anything white background and the room lights up much to much and my eyes hurt for a minute before getting used to it.
Any suggestion how to solve this? Can we ask for a larger adjustments towers lower light setting?

The lowest setting really is too bright, custom kernels do kind of help with the problem, but they require the setting to be toggled on/off. Gravity box with xposed has the ability to reduce minimum brightness, but that voids safety net. It would be great if it could be done systemlessly with a module.

Turn on battery saver for even lower brightness!
I use an app called 'screen filter'. It works great at night.

Unfortunately that does not make much difference on my phone. But the night mode app works really good. Nice tint to when the blue light is filtered out after a bit of use to get used to it

I use a very good app, blue light filter.
It works very well.

Lux lite is an amazing app for auto brightness and it has a night mode that allows you to read easy at night. Just check it out you'll be happy.
Stock rom can go aa dim as possible.
Hi could anyone do a pwm free app or kernel mod for the pixel 3a.
The pwm frequency is very annoying. Of anyone could do this eliminating pwm would be awesome
Can you explain what the purpose of such kernel mod is? Thanks.
I'd be interested too. I don't own a Pixel 3a but I probably would if it didn't have PWM.
Apparently some newer phones from China (XIaomi, OnePlus Beta ROMs) have a new "DC Dimming" feature that supposedly just a software update. If anyone can find me the kernel source for such ROM with that feature I might take a look and see what can be done.

PWM = Pulse With Modulation flicker of the display, for some people with damaged eyes (including myself) it causes severe headaches and other neurological issues.
There's some more information here, but I take issue with the "affected" frequencies listed in the first paragraph.

Sadly the Pixel 3a is confirmed to use PWM in this review.

Dude, gift me something ? because i know how much headache you are facing with pwm thing.
So here is the app( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.js.oledsaver ) to avoid pwm & use the phone with low brightness.
App name is OLED SAVER
It's simple. You install it & follow the instructions & use it. Enjoy! ?

Yes, the screen flickering because of PWM at a speed of 242.7 Hz can be seen througout the whole video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_yDs3SGiXg
"PWM = Pulse With Modulation flicker of the display, for some people it causes severe headaches and other neurological issues." - Some newer phones from China (XIaomi, OnePlus Beta ROMs) have a new "DC Dimming" feature that can be used to dimm the OLEDisplay.
Try using a brightness adjustment app that applies a transparent mask over the screen. It's a dirty work around but it lets you leave the brightness at 100% where there is no PWM enabled.
This is my first OLED screen but I haven't had issues with its 242Hz frequency PWM personally. I did notice that dark mode AKA pure black will make the OLED pixels react slower, leaving trails and other artifacts which can make it harder on the eyes than a grey or white background when scrolling.
Night mode at low brightness seems to help in dark situations as well.

Since the Pixel 4a has a slow PWM flickering, too. What can we learn from this Samsung kernel mod? https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/amoled-pwm-s7-edge-t3517739/
I want to download the PWNfree app

Is there any way I can set screen brightness above its maximum capacity?
It is no news that this phone doesn't have such a bright screen as it features an LCD display. But sometimes this gets even more annoying specially when it comes to gaming. That said, I've been wondering if we could increase brightness level beyond what it is. Maybe a feature on a custom ROM or kernel if possible (?)
I've also read somewhere that Android doesn't let you set actual max brightness by yourself on manual mode so it'll go into its maximum capacity only on auto/adaptive brightness mode. If this is true, could we trick on that somehow?

No you cant increase it , if you probably do it will damage the screen , LCD has 450nits on manual and somewhere 550 nits on Auto(MAX),i didnt see any room with the feature of increasing to 550 in manual ,only auto works .
Everyone says the brightness is not really sufficient, but on my X3 Pro 8/256 max brightness is really bright/strong. Just got the phone a week ago. Is it possible they changed display panel in the manufacturing process?

Maybe, or it could be just a matter of perception. I've also wondered if it's possible to replace the original display for a brighter one but I think that would implicate other physical parameters such as voltage and current.

Actually I've found a way to do it. Derpfest ROM has a feature named "high brightness mode" or "HBM". It does increase brightness above the max level. It makes a slight difference but yet perceptible. I think it needs kernel support to work also.

You can do it on any rom which doesn't support hbm by default using root and changing the kernel but it will properly have some bugs.
su -c "echo 4095 > /sys/class/backlight/panel0-backlight/brightness"
Simple!
