Pixel 2 Magisk Bug won't take pin - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

Pixel 2 XL is soft bricked at the moment and I can't for the life of me think of what I need to do to recover it. I unlocked my bootloader and rooted when I switched to Pie, (I saw people we're already able to use Android pay on a rooted device again and I just couldn't help myself.) I installed twrp accidentally tried to flash TWRP not realizing I needed to temporary boot it and pushing the zip over erasing the recovery I proceeded to just fastboot it and carry on with the normal procedure with my phone. after getting Magisk installed I had my phone all set up until the next time I turned it on and back off again It said I forgot my PIN which I know I didn't I think this was because a glitch with smartlock I just setup so I go to my recovery and wipe the Dalvik cache, cache, Internal storage, and data and low and behold my phone bootloops never making past the final stage before it gets to the lockscreen. I go to Fastboot screen on my phone and my mac can't list my phone as a device in adb and now I am having issues getting back into recovery which I think might be because I am on the stock kernel my Fastboot screen on my phone says Product Name - Taimen, Variant - MSM USF:SAMSUNG(64gig) DDR:SAMSUNG, Bootloader version - TM220j, Baseband version - g899800253-1805232234, my Serial number, Serure boot - Yes, Device status - Unlocked, Vart console - Disabled, HW version - rev_10
I can't get it to stop bootlooping and just turn off.

Try flashing the stock boot.img with Fastboot. That might get you out of it. Since you did all the wiping I can't say for sure. However, when you were at the point where it wouldn't take your password, that's all that needed to be done. I ran into the same thing. It's a Magisk bug. Magisk gets flashed to the boot partition so flashing the factory boot.img will fix it. TWRP also gets flashed to the boot partition so if you flashed it too, flashing a factory boot image will get rid of that too. ADB won't see the phone while it's in fastboot mode. You need to use "fastboot devices". You can download a factory image if you don't have one and extract the boot.img from it. Put it in the folder your fastboot is in, and then open a command prompt (terminal? I'm not a MAC person) from that folder and type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" (without the quotes). Make sure you use download the factory image that's the same as what you currently have installed on the phone.

I stopped my endless bootloop! Now it says my device is corrupt and cannot be trusted and may not work properly when I tried to start it I couldn't get past the google screen. When I plug it into charge now it doesn't automatically going into a bootloop that can only be stoped by going into the fastboot mode or running out of battery, but the the charging symbol on the screen won't go away. I might have wiped system when I was in TWRP when I couldn't boot back after the first wipe. And I accidentally tried fastbooting Telstra img first. Anyway to get past this white Google screen? Also when I trey to go to recovery now it's the android laying on it's back with a red triangle and it says no command. Should I execute the flash-all script?

Downloaded the stock img files and ran the flash all .sh and now I am back in Android ready to mess something up again I could not thank you enough for your help I am so happy right now

Glad to hear you got it working again. As for the recovery screen that say no command, that't the way it works with the stock recovery. When you see that screen, press and hold power and volume up. That will get you into recovery. If you happen to try rooting again and get stuck in a bootloop or some such thing, just flash the stock boot image.. That should get you going again.

Need help transferring files in fastboot mode

So I forgot and did a dirty flash to the final version of Lollipop without wiping data. I should have moved my data over but now I'm stuck with a black screen and a back arrow once I boot up the OS.
I know that in order to fix this, I need to flash again and do a full wipe, however, I need to get my files (pics and music) off the phone. I am unable to put a custom recovery on the phone. When I flash TWRP to the phone, it says it succeeded but then I just get the open android with the red thing on it when I try to go to recovery mode.
I've tried adb pull in fastboot mode, but I am unable to get my computer to recognize my device in fastboot mode through adb (fastboot works of course).
When I've booted up, my lock is on the phone so I cannot use adb to pull files without getting into the OS (which is impossible at this point).
I'm running out of ideas on how to get the files, but I'm sure that someone here must have run into the same issue.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

theres no adb in the bootloader, just fastboot.
i dirty flashed from kitkat(rastakat rom) to lollipop, didnt have any issues at all. what did you dirty flash from? you could just flash the factory img via fastboot, but not flash the userdata.img, which would let you keep your data.
When you're in bootloader and try to flash TWRP (try the latest), make sure you hit reboot bootloader to see if that helps.
I went from the last pre-release to the official release. of lollipop.
I'm going to try twrp again see what I get.
Thanks

New replacement tablet stopped working properly! Help!

So after I got my new tabby, I proceeded to update it to 3.1. When it finished downloading, the tablet froze and rebooted, but the screen did not come back on! Literately, the pixels were not on (tested by going into a dark room and seeing if the pixels were on but colored black)
So I held power for 15 secs, rebooted, updated, and all that. Then, I decided to root using Kingroot. The first 3 times, it failed. It stopped at around 17-21%. The fourth time it just...worked. Then, shortly after replacing it's root with supersu using the kingroot replacement app, I went to DL titanium backup so I could restore stuff.
Then, out of nowhere, the tablet reboots, and shows the nvidia boot screen like normal.... But it was frozen. The tablet will NOT get past this screen! I tried going into the bootloader using VOL Down + Power, which works! I then tried "fastboot protocol", but when I select it, it just goes black, then takes me back to the bootloader!
I then tried recovery, but I forgot to install twrp, so all it shows is "No command" underneath a android! Help! I don't know what to do!
I did not enable usb debugging in dev options either, because I did not think to do that first when getting a brand freaking new tablet that should not be doing this!!!
My old one works! (Albeit with unstable audio glitches and general lagginess)
I would try to flash all new from recovery images (via fastboot, you can download from Nvidia page), then flash latest TWRP (MultiROM patched, if you prefer....) and from TWRP flash latest SuperSU.zip...

But how would I flash via fastboot? What tool should I use?
I completely forgot how to do all of that stuff.

First step: If you have downloaded recovery image, and unpacked everything, you get a script named "flash-all.sh" (for linux, flash-all.bat for win), execute it while in fastboot mode and connected to PC...

Are you running linux or windows? Either way you'll need to get fastboot and adb. Download twrp and put the img file in the same directory as the fastboot and adb files. Put the tablet in bootloader mode. In a terminal window run fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (or whatever the filename for your twrp file you downloaded is). After it's done, run 'fastboot reboot-bootloader' and then go into recovery. From there you can either sideload a rom zip file or use adb to push it over to the tablet and then flash it. If you want stock, just download and flash a zip from the stock rom thread. Or if you want 100% stock, just flash the factory images from bootloader as described here

LG GPAD 7 stuck on Fast Boot

Purchased an Lg Gpad 7 Wifi tablet (v400) 2 weeks ago. Came with preinstalled Lollipop android so i couldnt install a recovery rom to flash any other custom roms. Downgraded to Kitkat version following the instructions on Xda forums and succesfully installed Twrp. When i installed Cyanogenmod 12.1 through Twrp i got stuck in fastboot screen.
Any suggestions and / or solutions would be greatly appreciated.
I had a similar problem.. Only mine was stuck at the bootloader. Go in TWRP and repair /data and other partitions. My data partition gave me an error since F2FS is a little flaky and some ROMs corrupted it (claimed they supported it). I would recommend erasing the system, cache and data partition if you can't get into TWRP.
The problem is i cant get out of fastboot whatever i try. It says start on bootloader but the tablet just restarts on an empty screen doing nothing.

if you have an sd card, try removing that, then reboot.
if that doesnt work, try entering fastboot command, fastboot continue
Tried without sdcard and i get the same fastboot screen.
How can i give any commands? The only options i have are Restart Bootloader / Restart / Power off. Tried restarting bootloader but i get nothing in return tablet just stays on with nothing on screen.

you said it was stuck on fastboot, if thats the case, install any needed drivers on your pc, connect device to it, open a terminal in the fastboot dir (after you go get fastboot), then try those commands i gave. you could also try, fastboot reboot dont think i mentioned that before.

Did as you said but every command i gave gives me an error message in adb terminal. There are new lines in fastboot menu in tablet now. Bottom two are SECURE BOOT - enabled & LOCK STATE - locked.

hmm, ok, im guessing it would have said that normally, when not broken. all the command does is try to release it past where its stuck. it doesnt actually flash, lock, unlock, or change anything.
imo, this seems good, because now we know fastboot is working.
i own lg devices, but not your specific device. i would hate to give you some bad advice and make your tablet broken more, but if it were me in this situation, i would try to flash the factory KK firmware you used to downgrade with odin or however you did it. hopefully, that will clean everything up and let it boot properly.
if for whatever reason you cant do that, we could try extracting the factory file, and just flashing recovery and system, those should be the only things that got changed putting on twrp and cm normally.
Sorry, I have the serious proplem wtih my LG pad V400, I rooted it and using <LG Flash Tool 2014> with <V40010c_00.kdz> to downgrate the firmware but their is error then my LG pad stuck in fastboot menu as with just turn off, restart and restart bootloader. if i seclect one one them the tablet just logged again the fastboot menu
it stuck on the fastboot menu and i cannot do nay think with it. I can restart with factory restore mode but when select yes to restore, it will restart and log in fastboot menu again.
I downloaded adb and fastboot program and put in one folder <Minimal ADB and Fastboot> in C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot
I dont have recovery image so i download file <cm-13.0-20160421-NIGHTLY-v400-recovery.img> form your link to download TWRP file
move it to folder of fastboot programe and changed its name to <recovery.img>
I turn on the tablet and it waited at fastboot menu
when i run the command <fasboot flash recovery recovery.img> and they said some thing wrong like in picture
please help me

[Help Needed] Semi Bricked - Remove substratum overlay or somehow backup my data

Hey Guys,
So my idiot brain decided to mess around with substatum themes after I updated and rerooted my OP7P. I rooted with magisk but forgot to put TWRP recovery on.
Anyways, got the phone semi bricked when applying one of the overlays. The phone boots and I can see my lock screen wallpaper but the screen is just flashing on/off.
I cant use the fingerprint or pin to get it. Is there a way for me to backup my pictures and data or somehow remove substratum?
Biggest problem is that for whatever reason, the update revoked my ADB authorization so it looks like I cant do anything with ADB.
If someone has any way to salvage my situation, please reply. Factory reset is my last resort due to no backup.
Thank You
Try booting into TWRP and using ADB there.
Well boot to fastboot. Flash twrp there and then reboot to twrp.
Flash rescue zip and you should be good to go

Problem is, I dont have TWRP recovery flashed, looks like it reverted to stock recovery after I updated. I rooted with Magisk which does not put TWRP back. I forgot to flash it after.
I also probably wont be able to do anything in fastboot either because the update removed the ADB Authorization and I am unable to accept it since my screen doesnt respond to anything, I will attempt this route though.
Edit: No go. ADB vendor key not set and I dont think I will be able to accept it on my device due to unresponsive screen

Fastboot doesn't need adb.
Switch off the phone, reboot to fastboot.
Then type fastboot boot (filelocation of twrp.img)
Then your phone will boot to twrp.
Flash rescue.zip.
If it is still a no go. Then use msm tool

Rebooted to fastboot, entered the PIN but Fastboot is a no go. Just keeps saying <waiting for any device> and nothing happens. Would that be because the authorization keys were not accepted after the update?
I am downloading the MSM Tool and will try that if I cant get it to work with fastboot. Will update if it works.
Thanks for suggestions
Ended up using the MSM tool. Did not know it wipes data and also put me back to Android 9.
Oh well, lesson learned. Gotta make monthly backups, make sure twrp is installed and working before messing around with substatrum.
Thanks for the help.

Need help needed with fastboot(loop)

I've decided to upgrade to OOS11 stable and patch the boot before going into the rom. What I did was:
1. Flash latest TWRP (3.5.2_9-0)
2. Reboot to recovery
3. Flash ONLY OOS11 boot.img
4. Flash TWRP again
5. Install Magisk and Kirisakura-R 1.1.1 kernal (for f2fs support)
6. Reboot to recovery
Here I was going to do the same on other partition but TWRP failed to boot and screen kept flashing but I noticed that ADB was connected so I rebooted to fastboot and flash stock boot I've previously extracted from stock ROM. Now I face another problem, phone doesn't boot anywhere else but fastboot.
I've tried a few stuff to get it back.
# There were some cases where the phone won't boot with bootloader unlocked and stock boot so I managed to patch boot.img with Magisk using an emulator and then flash it.
# Tried booting into TWRP but phone phone would get stuck in "Fastboot mode" screen with fastboot still connected (And taking commands from PC).
# Tried flashing TWRP to boot partition which worked previously but this time the problem stayed and kept booting into fastboot.
A few more points that I should mention,
# I've backed up my entire phone using TWRP so I can unbrick it if I somehow manage to get into TWRP
# I don't have the backup on my computer. It's on the phone.
I absolutely can't lose those data. Yeah, mistake on my side for not backing up on my computer but to my defense, this never happened before so I let my guard down this time.
What options do I have left? Any hint would be appreciated. Thanks for reading
