TWRP - Failed to mount '/data' & Unable to mount storage - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I have the latest TWRP, but I can't seem to mount the /data even after formatting it
Any ideas?

Okay, nevermind, a new kernel flash fixed this issue
It's crazy how often Samsung pumps out updates

Settings for MTP
I had to set my device to media transfer. I dont get the option to drop down from a menu and choose, I have to go into settings and bring up the different options. This is only happening to me on S8+(verizon)

[Q] My Internal sdcard is corrupted! Please Help!

I Think my Internal sdcard is corrupted!
Please Help! Reflashing android won't work. I think the partition is corrupted!
Device: Google Nexus 5
Original OS: Android 5.1.0_r1 (LMY47D)
Recovery: TWRP 2.8.6.0
One day I turned my phone off, and later i decided to go into recovery. I believe I went inside Advanced Options and clicked "Fix Permissions." Then I proceeded to reboot. I was busy at the time, so when I remembered about my phone, I saw that it was still booting. It had been at least 30 minutes so I knew it was in a bootloop. I decided to go back into recovery and reflash the system.img onto it. No luck. I realized I had to try flashing the entire Nexus image (using the flash-all.bat). The phone would still not turn on. I tried flashing different versions of android, and here are my findings:
Android 5.1.0_r3, 5.1.0_r1, 5.0.1: all cause my phone to not be able to boot up (stuck on the 4 color flying animation)
Android 4.4.4, CyanogenMod (cm-11-20141008-SNAPSHOT-M11-hammerhead.zip): Allow my phone to boot up.
However, after I found that I could boot onto Android 4.4.4 and CyanogenMod, I realized that I could not get access to the sdcard!
Here are my findings:
When I go to the phone's root folder, I see a FILE called "sdcard"
When I go to \storage, I see a FILE called sdcard0
When I open camera, the app crashes (possibly because it stores pictures on the sdcard).
I tried to delete these files when I had root access with CyanogenMod but the file manager said "can't delete file." When I am in recovery mode (TWRP) however, I can see the sdcard folder and the contents. Just through every system boot, the sdcard is inaccessible.
After I realized that the problem wasn't due to the data on my phone (after flashing many system images), I realized my data partition might be corrupted. Then I went to this site and followed the directions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...o-repairing-corrupted-data-partition-t2577447
The e2fsck command didn't do anything as cmd said "The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 filesystem."
Afterwards, my friend told me to try mke2fs /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/userdata
I typed that in adb shell and something happened. I started processing blocks or something. Unfortunately now, I am unable to mount the data partition at all. I am also unable to flash the userdata.img onto my phone through fastboot.
UPDATE: When I open up twrp recovery and look in the log I see the following:
E: Could not mount /data and unable to find crypto footer.
E: Unable to mount '/data'
E: Unable to recreate /data/media folder.
Updating partition details...
E: Unable to mount '/data'
E: Unable to mount '/cache/
E: Unable to mount '/persist'
...done
E: Unalbe to mount storage.
E: Unable to mount /data/media during GUI Startup.
E: Unable to mount '/cache'
Full SELinux support is present.
E: Unable to mount '/cache'
E: Unable to Mount '/cache'
E: Unable to mount /data/media/TWRP .twrps when trying to read settings file.
E: Unable to mount '/data'
MTP Enabled
Anyone know how to fix this? Please help, I owe you so much if you can solve this! Reply to me if you're able to help, I'm also new to xda so I don't really know how messages work. Thanks!
Try taking it out and putting it back in. It happened to me too.

By sdcard I mean the internal sdcard (/storage/emulated/0). Nexus 5 does not have an external sdcard slot anyways.
So you are saying you have no apps, no widgets, nothing... /storage/emulated/0 is your main storage which INCLUDES your system files (unless you have a phone or tablet that has a separate internal SD card - would be /storage/emulated/1 ... I am guessing)

[Q] One not visible in PC after SDcard format in TWRP

Hi,
I decided to upgrade to AICP after 8 months on SlimKat today.
So, I choose full wipe (Cache, System, Data, Dalvik and SDcard too) as I wanted to clear SDcard data too.
But TWRP (2.8.6.1) ended up with error 255 during wipe. Also TWRP format /sdcard ended up with error 255.
Then I pushed to One following files via adb:
- OnePlusFirmware-20150523.zip
- aicp_bacon_lp-9.0-NIGHTLY-20150616.zip
- Slim_zero_gapps.BETA.5.1.build.0.x-20150612.zip
- SuperSU-v2.46.zip
1) FW installed OK
2) AICP + Gaps + SU installed OK
3) restarted
One boot up OK, I setup everything, but One is not possible to see in PC (W7) - not as MTP neither mass USB
What to do? How to fix this?
Thank you very much...

Try the following
1.Reinstall the One Drivers again.
2.Go to device manager (right click on My Computer) - - USB controllers - - Uninstall USB Hub - - Scan for hardware changes
3. Install multirom and flash CM11S and check whether it's getting detected from KitKat ROM.
I had simply downgraded to CM11S as I was facing this issue with screenshot issue

I tried that one already. Problem is that PC does not even recognize that I connect One to the USB
It is like I did not connect anything... but One is charging OK
Edit: what is very strange is... when I trying to wipe "Internal storage" I got an error:
>>> "Wiping interna storage -- /data/media...
E:mount -o bind '/data/media/0' '/sdcard' process ended with ERROR=255"
That might be the issue, but I have no idea how to fix it
So, no I cannot install SlimKat back...
I push there ROM:
c:\aaa>adb push Slim-bacon-4.4.4.build.9.0-OFFICIAL-8300.zip /sdcard
6674 KB/s (171562038 bytes in 25.100s)
But when I tryied to install it in TWRP... I got this:
Format and Mount System, Mount Data...
Symlinks and permissions...
Flashing Boot Image...
script succeeded: result was [/system]
Updating partition details...
E:mount -o bind '/data/media/0' '/sdcard' process ended with ERROR=255"
...done
E:mount -o bind '/data/media/0' '/sdcard' process ended with ERROR=255"
Edit: when I connect One to the PC, it start charging, but it does not show up in USB devices at all
Issue fixed
Issue fixed by: Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging > uncheck the tick-box :good:
It seems like the LP use the "USB Debugging" different way the KitKat, but it One was normally visible in PC with this option switch on

Strange. I have that option enabled all the time and the PC recognizes my phone, but it os good it worked for you
USB debug
Seems like the BlissPop on the OnePlus One works different way
If I disable "USB Debugging" and then connect One to PC, SD is normally visible and accessible.
When I enable "USB Debugging" (One still connected), the SD card is disconnected (disappear from My PC).
I "need" this for TB only anyway and even if "USB Debugging" is disabled the TB works, so no prob...
At least I know how to "fix" this :good:

Nexus 5 turns on but cannot access anything

I have a Nexus 5 rooted and running Catacalysm 5.1.1 Lollipop (Sep 27, 2015 Stable final release)
Yesterday while I was on my phone all of a sudden it froze for a couple of seconds and then restarted.
When it booted it says "To start Android, Enter your Password"
I can type in literally any password and it will go to the next screen and say
"Decryption Unsuccessful"
The password you entered is correct, but unfortunately your data is corrupt.
To resume using your phone, you need to perform a factory reset. When you set up your phone after the reset, you'll have an opportunity to restore any data that was backed up to your google account.

Then the only thing I can select is "reset phone."
The thing is I never encrypted my phone. I don’t want to do a factory reset as I have some things in my phone that I need
When I go into recovery this is what I get:
E:Could not mount /data and unable to find crypto footer.
E:Unable to mount ‘/data’
E:Unable to recreate /data/media folder
Updating partition details…
E:Unable to mount ‘/data’
…done
E:Unable to mount storage.
E:Unable to mount /data/media during GUI startup.
Full SELinux support is present
E:Unable to mount /data/media/TWRP/.twrps when trying to read settings file.
E:Unable to mount ‘/data’
MTP enabled
E:Unable to mount ‘/data’

Also the internal storage shows 0 MB.
When I go into backup these are the sizes that are shown:
System (882MB)
Data (0MB)
Cache (12MB)
Boot (22MB)
EFS (6MB)
Click to collapse
I’m using TWRP
I was wondering if anyone ran into this issue or knew anything about what is going on in my phone.
Is my phone dead? Can I get it to work again? Is there any way I can access the internal storage and retrieve my files?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Error mounting /storage/sdcard0

My friend asked me to fix his HTC One S, because he screwed something when trying to install new ROM. When I get into ClockworkMod -> Backup and Restore -> restore from /storage/sdcard0 it says "Error mounting /storage/sdcard0", and when i get into Mounts and Storage -> mount USB storage (while connected to my laptop), it says "Cant mount /storage/sdcard0 : Shared - Unmounted", and my laptop sees unformated partition. Is this device bricked-to-death, or is there still a chance?

You probably can solve your problem by cleaning up the phone's memory using the STOCK RECOVERY.
- Flash the recovery using FASTBOOT
-Boot into bootloader and perform "factory reset" + "clear storage".

phone stuck in bootloop

good evening, i have a problem with my phone. i have an exynos7870 j7 2016 with a modded galaxy s20 ultra oneui 2 android 10 rom with root (magisk). it's kinda buggy sometimes but i've had it for a year and a half.
not too often, my OS would randomly go from being powered on to showing the samsung loading splash screen, like it was turning on. i would always hard reset the phone as it would be stuck in this screen and it would reboot normally. this time, however, was different.
when i hard reset my phone after this issue, it took abnormally long to load (usually took around 2 minutes, it was well over 5 minutes this time). i thought it was a bug so i decided to reset the phone again. when it restarted and i realized it would take the same amount of time, i let it do it's thing, only to realize that it would restart and try to boot again. that's when i realized i was in a bootloop.
i'm not sure what caused this (i'm fearing that i corrupted the OS by hard resetting the first time) because (if there's a way please lmk) there's no way to turn on verbose mode on boot and check what the OS is having issues with.
i tried going into teamwin to see if i could check the system log. i did find a system log option, and it was saying that it failed to mount /data. i'm not too sure if this is teamwin's own log or if it's an OS log because teamwin mentioned something about not mounting the system partition and this log doesn't look particularly big and because it mentions the initials "TWRP".
Markdown (GitHub flavored):
Could not mount /data and unable to find crypto footer.
Failed to mount '/data' (Invalid argument)
Unable to recreate /data/media folder.
Updating partition details...
Failed to mount '/data' (Invalid argument)
...done
Unable to mount storage
Failed to mount '/data' (Invalid argument)
Full SELinux support is present.
Unable to mount /data/media/TWRP/.twrps
MTP enabled
Failed to mount '/data'(Invalid argument)
an additional thing to note is that teamwin restarts itself the moment i press the restart button where it otherwise asks for confirmation. i found that strange but i'm not sure if it's related with my problem.
any help regarding this problem would be much appreciated. i want to try to not have to wipe my phone and reinstall the OS because i have some sensitive applications (like lastpass authenticator) that i don't want to lose access to, but if i really have to, then i'd like to know if 1. there's a lineageos build for my phone and 2. if it would run better / be better for my device.
thanks
