Hey all. I was wondering if anybody else has had an issue with the HTC messaging app overly compressing photos when attached. I know compression will have to happen as the originals are 4mb, but when sending it compresses to 107kb! It seems like something is broken to me, as I can send files up to 1mb. Any one have any insight on this, or similar issues?
Any help?
From Anyone?
Hoping to spam this so I can include a picture link in another post.
Hopefully this doesn't ban me......
Only one way to find out, I guess.
Would be just my luck, though.
Sorry to everyone here.
I'll delete this thread, no worries.

send it via email. MMS compresses the picture for space to allow the file to send faster.
MMS wasn't really designed for large screens (i.e. a computer) it is for phone-to-phone messaging where the compression you're referring to wouldn't be very noticeable. If you're sending something to someone (or yourself) to be viewed on a computer, send it via email like akellar said. By the nature of Android, you already have a Gmail account on your phone, so you've got no reason not to.
I'm pretty sure USC has a limit on the file size of MMS too - so it may not be possible to attach a picture with a large resolution.

I thought so, too, but according to USCC's FAQ, it's 5MB, or I'm looking at the wrong place?
8. What are the size limitations for picture and video messages?
Picture and video messages sent between handsets are only limited by the phone model. For videos, 15 seconds is a good rule of thumb for maximum length.
Incoming picture and video messages from email are limited to 5MB.
For emails greater than 5MB: If an email is sent to a Picture and Video Messaging phone that exceeds the 5MB limit, the person sending the email will receive a 'Message Failure' email to indicate that the message is too large and therefore was unable to be sent. Users can check the total size of the email being sent to help predict if the email will exceed this limit.
For emails less than 5MB: Email messages less than the 5MB limit will be reduced to a size the phone can handle. The conversion process will lessen the quality of the picture or video along with the file size.

Although it says "email" in the quoted text, it is in the section for "Picture and Video Messaging" which it calls MMS toward the top of the section.
*shrugs*
It's not USCC compressing it, it's the phone. My wife's Blackberry sent pictures full resolution to my Blackberry. Now her same phone still sends it full rez, but my phone compresses it.
There are fixes for other phones to allow them full rez, I'm looking for one for this phone!
Thanks all
Have you tried using other SMS applications such as GO SMS or Handcent?

Yes, I've tried GO SMS and am currently using Handcent and it makes no difference. Thanks for the idea tho!
The mms can be modified to send full supported res of the phone. Then possibly receive also. But it depends on the phone the mms was sent from. Also us cellular has a 1mb limit.
Edit: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16907924/Mms.apk Dowload that and use root explorer to move it to system/app. Though make sure you force stop and clear the data for the stock mms in applications. I pulled that out of gas's rom but should work in mine and pick and pack if it is the ee19 mms. Enjoy
Edit2: Fixed link

Thank you!! Ok, I downloaded that and got it put in the system/app folder on my stock USCC ee19. I rooted it, then used root explorer. It didn't work! Do I need one of the other ROMs to make it work? If so could you please tell me exactly how?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm just learning this!! I did use odin to flash back to stock 2.1 a month ago, but then used Kies to go to the newest 2.2 this week.
Thanks!
What rom you on? If stock ee19 it could be because you had odex files. I only mess with apps that aren't.
As for not working what do you mean by this? The app doesn't work or still the same issue?

Sorry, I meant still the same issue. I'm running the stock ee19 just released this past Tuesday. Sorry, I don't know what odex is?
Thanks for helping a newb!
Um the odex files is hard to explain but a google search will give you quicker better results than me trying to explain it. As for having the same issue I am not sure.
As the only settings are for sending a message. Which I changed. But if it is getting a picture. It depends on the phone that is sending it. As when a picture is sent every android resizes it. Along with dumb phones.
The only phone I know first hand that doesn't do this is the desire. Which would only be one on cm, possibly some on aosp roms. Then ones on the roms I did.
Hi there,
I think this is something all of the android users have noticed at least once. But I couldn't find an answer to it so I thought I'll ask it here. If it's already been answered then I'm very sorry.
If you download an image in Whatsapp that a contact sent you it is downloaded in the 'Whatsapp Images' directory. This directory is accessable through the Gallery or Quickpic or whatever.
When you decide to send that same image to another contact, Whatsapp creates a new file in the 'Whatsapp Images' directory while it's the same image. So then you have a duplicate file.
Each time you send or receive the very same image it gets duplicated by Whatsapp. Some popular images are already 8 times in my 'Whatsapp Images' directory. I think this is very annoying.
I tried a duplicate file finder. That works (but not always as good as I wish), and I have to do it everytime I send something to multiple contacts. Why can't Whatsapp detect this?
If there is a solution to this, please enlighten me. If you are not experiencing this at all but think to know what I'm doing wrong, again, please enlighten me!
Thanks in advance.
What does the develloper say about this , i've experienced it too but never did something with it

My problem too
I've sent an e-mail to the WhatsApp customer service. Hope they answer soon
What did they say?
Was just searching for the answer to this when I found your post
same problem in my phone too but for now i unistalled it waiting for new update hoping that bug fix ^^
I've noticed something a tad strange with photo uploads. I can't confirm but it seems to me it started happening when I started using JB builds of AOKP and CM10. When I upload an image directly from my phone to Google+ (the two big ones I noticed), they are very low resolution. Has anyone else experienced that?
EDIT: Uploaded image from my phone was fine to these forums, perhaps it's just a Google+ thing - at which point I'd assume it's an app issue. Anyone else seeing similar behaviour?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
I don't use G+, but my photos upload to Dropbox and I haven't had any issues with resolution/image quality at all. I'm guessing it's a G+ app specific issue or a setting or something like that.

Thought it might be something like that - no settings that I can see, maybe it's just not playing nice with JB.
hi all i know this prob isn't the place for this but dose any one know what this is just received it 10 mins ago and have not been able to find out anything from google?
here is a screen shot of the message

in case your wondering the message did not self destruct!
It has confused me tho any idea what it could be or what it's about?
It's either a prank, or spam. Scan your phone for adware.
done a scan and it returned nothing?
just thought it was a bit strange as i don't give my number to any one i don't know or put it on any social profile's or forms i fill in to avoid thing's like this.
i would have thought that if they just sent messages to loads of random numbers there would be more people asking about the number/message?
thanks for the suggestion tho.
I suppose it could also be some kind of inside joke between this jiggypantz and someone else, and they just got the # wrong. Or, possibly, some kind of bizarre phishing attempt. Whatever it is, they're hoping you'll reply.
Yeah true
They said don't share the number with anyone I know I don't know any of the 1,000,000 people here so lets hope they get some weird messages back .
Hello, I am running CleanRom 5.6 on my verizon galaxy sIII and everything is working great. However I have one problem. The stock message app works great but it does not allow for group test message to show up on one message i.e. you get individual message instead of getting one single message. I solved this by installing go sms pro or handcent. NOw the problem that I am having is that when people send me a .gif image file I can see the picture but it is not moving. I have tried opening under the stock text app, go sms pro, and handcent but no one them work. At have had it working a few time but the majority of times it does not work i.e. the image does not move. I have searched online a lot but there is no one consensus on how to fix this problem. I hope someone know what I am talking about and can help me because I am not the only one who is having the problem. Thank you.
p.s. I do not know whether the problem is being caused by an iphone user sending the .gif file or whether that does not matter.

Im not 100% sure here but pretty sure the Android OS doesnt fully support .gif anymore at least? seems like alot of people cant only get the first frame of a gif to run on their phones now.
