What's the point?
Now a good number of people are on Oreo and its pretty darn good. IMO, a custom kernel and Magisk should be enough for most people.

Look at the name of the branch. Its 'tissot-n-oss'. In that name, n stands for nougat. Xiaomi names their branches this way.

Does it really matter?
I believe kernel sources are released once only and there are so many devices that get ROMs and Kernels made for them - years after their official development has stopped. For eg. - If sources are released for Lollipop (and not for Nougat), LOS is also there for Nougat.
Could you please clarify and how much time will it take for an Oreo kernel (tentatively in your opinion, obviously)?
@sooti could you pitch in?
we should be thankful that we got the second latest kernel source code. this is enough for the great developer gang to get the custom kernel and rom working for MIA1.

Generally speaking any new android version simply requires a few commits to support the latest features especially security, they are usually common across all devices with some devices needing some extra patches to bring it up to oreo (usually selinux related) but for the most part its not complicated, The complex part is setting up the device tree and vendor IMO, for custom roms that is. but i'm not a huge kernel dev so i don't know.

Thanks for clearing that up. Considering many devs have switched to from other devices running Oreo, I don't think it'll be an issue then.
I'm sure development for LOS will be up soon

Yes, we have it already.
So guys now all the Honor 8 will be compatible with Treble with the Android 8. Now my question is how to flash treble roms and which roms are compatible with our Honor 8 without bricking it.
My last question is if we have treble, our honor 8 will not have annoying bugs with custom roms right? (ex: camera quality)
It's still kinda early to ask these kinds of questions, wait until oreo is out globally

Funny story. A P9 user in XDA who got Oreo did manage to install a GSI treble ROM (Resurrection Remix Oreo ROM) aid everything worked fine except the Camera. So looks like it could happen to other Kirin 95X devices as well. But hopefully it can be fixed with some tinkering.

Hi. So now when most people have official oreo (L09-C432 has it now too) via hurupdater etc. which Custom ROM to flash? I tried one from telegram openkirin group (LOS B5 preview) and it didnt boot (stuck on LOS loading). There are still only ROMs without working camera?

have you factory resetted the phone in eRecovery?
(and did you flashed the rom through fastboot without twrp?)
Because I'm using the same LOS and it is has the OG hWcamera.
LOS beta 5 is the most complete treble rom that you can use right now for honor8
Just asking are there Treble ROMs that are for Daily use and have functional camera?

OpenKirin's Lineage OS 15.1 Beta 5. This is actually a really stable build and both of the cameras work like a charm, thanks to the EMUI camera app port. This is the ONLY ROM right now that you can use as your main operating system. Please go on and try it! Reminder:
Even if the website says nothing about Kirin 950 support, this LOS version contains the microcode for Honor 8, Note 8 and Mate 8 for the 950 compatibilities. Just follow the steps on the website and you have a highly customizable stock Android experience that works like it was your phone's default OS.

Hey there...
I pulled the version from the Firmware finder app / website and followed the approach on installing based on the method provided to install unapproved ROMs.
Once installed then you can install other treble ROMs from openkirin.net..

Thanks guys for replying, now I am waiting for Oreo to drop on FRD-L09C432 it should be approved very soon, but also one question if someone already installed LOS how's the battery life compared to stock nougat?
I'm using OmniROM (via OpenKirin group) and it's rock solid and super smooth.
Battery life is perfect too. Got 6 hours SOT with 27% battery left.

Got any source that official lineageos support is being considerer? The phone is on my wishlist atm (with another lineage-os supported model) and that's the kind of information that would make me choose it!

"should", most if not all treble roms have some bugs (e.g. camera) and it is not compareable to a custom rom built and optimized for a device (in terms of battery life, sot, perf, device specific mods and kernel optimizations, xiaomi did not build into theyr stock kernel).
I'm currently trying to build kernel source from xiaomi (with uber 4.9 TC) but get the following error:
"include/trace/events/msm_cam.h:19:21: fatal error: msm_isp.h: no such file or directory" though msm_isp.h is in the correct include folder. Found other kernel sources (oneplus5) with same problem which was solved by building the kernel inline (with oneplus oss aosp). Xiaomi does however, not provide a rom source. If anyone with more experience than me (i'm noob, also i dont work anything related to informatics/programming) could help this would be great.
edit: Building seems to work by defining output directory (make O=out <command>)

I'm still on stock for now, but I'm hoping some others could contribute to that thread! I will take some time at a later date to format the original post and add links ROMs that people have tried, and disclose what they report works and what doesn't.
Thank you <3

any lag or bug ?
Thanks a lot. how it is in work comparing to resurection and LOS roms?
I am on latest beta xiaomi.eu ROM, do i need to go back to original Xiaomi ROM beta or stable? which one?
To be honest, it's a Pixel Experience GSI with pixel3 launcher, does it has pixel3 camera feature or not? I have flashed the mipa kernel on AEX GSI before, unfortunately, this makes wifi doesn't turn on(I mean, the switcher is gray.), hence I wanna know this issue has addressed? Thank you for your effort. In addition, the pixel ROM for MIX2S which posted before is brilliant, wish this one could be better.

Yup, it's a pixel experience like other custom rom by other devs. I'm sharing this one 'cause it works very well with mix 2s. I tested several roms before.
I don't have any issue with Wifi or Hotspot with this kernel, but if you do, flash the .zip file given.

Nope. Read the rom info. Plus, every gsi rom by any developer out there, is optimized by their very own way of development. Even the same pixel experience gsi out there, the fluidity, the battery & ram optimization, is different, depends on developer.
I have read first post, but i asked this because you said that this is same as any other GSI pixel experience rom. That is why i am confused.

Huge thanks to this guide:

Now the only problem is the display is working under 60Hz and I found no option to enable 120Hz on it, making it very laggy especially coming from the stock Rom.

Follow the guide exactly. If any GSI doesn't work, you can reply to me, then I will test it.
As for now, I tested AEX6.0, PixelExperience official, PixelExperience P unofficial and Pixel Dust. They all works.
I found just rebooting fixed the refresh rate problem with it.
Only problem I had is installing magisk broke radio and WiFi. Is that fixed with the newer magisk?
Did any of those fix the bluetooth bugs? I tried PixelExperience but had to remove it as my bluetooth headphones stopped working with it
I have another question, is there already a ROM on which Substratum/Andromeda works? I tried AOSP but it does not work the same as on stock.
